Only just discovered Gaslands. I must say I love it! The game mechanics are sublime. Along with everything else you mentioned
I still remember it´s predecessor Car Wars from the 80s with it´s convoluted rules which were a normality back then. You had to study the rulebook in depth to remember how to resolve all the actions. In comparison Gaslands is vastly more streamlined where you can get to grasp the rules with maybe reading it once or twice.

Thanks for the intro to the game! I got interested in Gaslands mainly for the modeling side (I really needed that excuse to play with hot wheels), but from what I've seen it's a fantastic game too!

We have a family crew that have been playing it for a little over a years time span. We have opted to not include the audience votes rules so far but have included sponsors and themes. Some examples:
1) Movie/TV cars (A-Team van - Rutherford, Smokey and the Bandit- Rusty's Bootleggers)
2) month theme based - October was the zombie rules, December was the escape scenario- grinch stealing the semi filled with X-mas toys)
3) Lord of the rings based race
4)First responders themed

Side note: We some house rules. Example the trailers for Rusty's Bootleggers. We gave them hull points based on size/cost so enemies can choose to attack the trailer as a separate entity. If it's your birthday month you go first and get to pick the scenario.
I've done a ton of scenery things to change up the landscape, to include river, jumps, jungle, buildings, etc.
Love the game and 1st hint the you have more players you have to play the less cans the players get to spend. With 5 players and 50 cans to spend the game can get bogged down and last longer than the full interest span of all the players.

@@aussiewargamer3072 I could play Gaslands with just the rulebook and a couple Hotwheels from dollar store, but I have my own issues. Games Workshop is expensive along with any proprietary games.
Is this a joke ? Gaslands is about the cheapest tabletop game out there. All you need is the rule book ( I think you can get a free PDF copy online with the basic rules ), get some cheap cars from the dollar store, print out the templates .... Easy, cheap.
Customizing the cars isn't necessary, but certainly fun. Craft materials aren't expensive. Plenty of creative options.

Thanks for the rundown on Gaslands. I bought the soft cover first edition ... in 2015? I think. I can't recall. But I just couldn't get into it, largely due to a lack of player base in the area, but it reads well. The minis and arena setup looked inviting. I'm an old time First Edition Car Wars fan from the late 70s, so to me this looked interesting. Again, thanks for the review.

This is a game that'll let you get right and proper Orky with your favorite (or identical model) of your favorite hot wheels/matchbox car.

The best thing about Gaslands are the Rutherford cars. Look at the mascularity.
