@Great Dude Not a fair comparison. Units will *always* be better with their specialist hero than without, and most towns have a level 1 unit specialist. Don't remember if rampart has one, but stronghold does, and hobgoblins in his army are terrifying, crossing the map in 1 turn with mass haste or expert tactics and one-shotting black dragon stacks. Probably the strongest of these heroes is Galthran, just because of the numbers skeletons can achieve, but they do need haste to accomplish much. Besides, you don't play dungeon for its overlords. @@greatdude7279 It's not fair to compare units under specialist heroes to units separate from heroes. We were making a simple unit comparison. Adding hero specialty strats was not the point. But since you brought in first-level unit specialties, I did a comparison to other towns I know have that strategy. I don't play multiplayer or random maps and never owned the expansions, so I'm talking base game. Maybe multiplayer on random maps changes everything but from my experience, magic trumps might almost every time, and warlocks are probably the best magic hero. I say almost because there are some cheesy might strats that are hard to beat, like the defense specialist. But it's even harder to beat someone who can scout the whole map without leaving home, fly across half the map in one turn to capture a town, instantly teleport to any friendly town, mass slow your army, summon legions of elementals, and then resurrect any real units you manage to kill. Once a good magic hero gets rolling, they barely even need an army.

It’s actually quite cute watching a beginner play this game. Takes me back to when i first started and had no idea about what i was doing. I’m still not great at it myself, nor do i use the diplo strategy, but here’s some general advice: 1) invest into magic. It’s worth it. Choose wisdom and learn spells. 2) never pass down on earth magic. It’s arguably the best school of magic in the game with the most op spells. 3) make sure that your army is well-balanced and not all over the place. You don’t need random small-numbered stacks of random units. Have (for example) a ranger-based hero and a speed based hero (pro tip: don’t carry slow units with your main hero as your land movement is determined by the speed of your slowest unit) 4) before recruiting a hero from a tavern check their stats/skills to decide which one is more useful for you. 5) (a minor detail) “shots”’ refers to the number of times a ranged unit can shoot during one battle, not the strength of their attack. There are more things that could be improved, but these are the key ones. It takes a while to get to know the game and it’s nuances but the key goal is not to powet up by looting everything and collecting random units. Experienced gamers put a lot of thought into every step and only get the units and the skills they need. Good video to get people interested in the game, not a great tutorial though.
With diplomacy you can win even as a complete noob. I had a crushing victory literally the first time I played, on a large map with 5 cpus. I was so new I didnt even know I could save the game.
Because you fail at the correcting Spiff doing that terrible terrible mistakes. You married demanding but after all just one. That was terrible mistakes.
Diplomacy is just one of broken things in HoMM3. Off the top of my head: Necromancy, Armageddon, Resurrection, Town Portal, Dimension gate, Vampire Lords, Firebirds, Demons, Pixies…
To bad you didn't keep the original music in the game, as it's all in the public domain now and royalty free. Also because it's fucking one of the best OSTs ever.
The number on the right of "shots" isn't the ranged damage, it's just the number of ranged shots they have. In the case of Ice Elementals, that number is 24. If you have a fight longer than 24 turns, they run out of arrows, and you have to use them in melee mode. Fun fact :)
I was going to say this too… I can’t believe how anyone could mistake this never mind someone making a video talking about it. Like I think not even 1 out of 100 people would now understand that. How much damage do titans do? Lol
@@michaelsamchuk1819 I can see how that happen with a new player or someone with little experience - the UI isn't exactly the cleanest and the most intuitive, and the way it displays info can be misleading if you're just starting yourself. It adds tournament rules which: 1) Nerf Diplomacy so only a small part of the troops join you (a half or even a quarter) but you must always pay as if all of them would join you. They never join you for free. 2) Nerf Necromancy by halving the skill's power. Vampire lords are still the same. Necropolis still has to have some top units :-/ Maybe I forgot something about these rules. Also new heroes and new specialties like scouting and Interference (new secondary skill which lowers spell power of the enemy hero and scales up with spell power reducing artifacts). It is a nice new mechanic.
I remember playing the first M&M game (not Heroes, the original RPG). I had to make maps by hand for the thing. It was amazing fun but I remember going through a horrific dungeon, barely surviving but beating it, then hitting a random mob and being killed ONE SQUARE away from the Inn (save point). It was one of those maddening but epic times in the game. The level of tension at points was unbelievable and I really haven’t encountered anything like those old 80’s games.

All you need is either Shakti or Deemer.
Shakti with his trogs can easily take hives, shops, pickets, conservatories or dragon caves at the start.
On average you will get your start with few creature dwellings to portal and have few creature banks that gift you creatures. On average with Shakti you can already get 2 dragons and 12 wyverns before first week is finished and then just snowball from there the faster you break the better.
Best hero for me is Luna with her firewall cheese.

I’m still not great at it myself, nor do i use the diplo strategy, but here’s some general advice:
1) invest into magic. It’s worth it. Choose wisdom and learn spells.
2) never pass down on earth magic. It’s arguably the best school of magic in the game with the most op spells.
3) make sure that your army is well-balanced and not all over the place. You don’t need random small-numbered stacks of random units. Have (for example) a ranger-based hero and a speed based hero (pro tip: don’t carry slow units with your main hero as your land movement is determined by the speed of your slowest unit)
4) before recruiting a hero from a tavern check their stats/skills to decide which one is more useful for you.
3) pro tip: that it depends on the walked terrain ok, but the unit speed has influence over that too?
With diplomacy you can win even as a complete noob. I had a crushing victory literally the first time I played, on a large map with 5 cpus. I was so new I didnt even know I could save the game.

The number on the right of "shots" isn't the ranged damage, it's just the number of ranged shots they have. In the case of Ice Elementals, that number is 24. If you have a fight longer than 24 turns, they run out of arrows, and you have to use them in melee mode.

Even though all the mistakes and misinformation were painful, it was a very quick and fun half hour :D
Please do more, good sir!
