thanx mate - i lifted this off my own 30 year old VHS tape recording....yes a little loss to the picture sharpness but the audio appears to have survived pretty much..cheers all
The host is Peter Gordeno. He was a singer mainly but people my age remember him as Peter Carlin, the captain of the super duper submarine SkyDiver on the sci fi UFO TV show.
Wow! I stumbled upon this while joking around with my teen. I almost flipped when they said Julie Brown. So this is how Downtown Julie Brown got her big break. Awesome!
Big thanks to discoreview for sending me the full recording of this show - videoed in the 70s then put onto DVD recently! When i was in the final i don't think my family had a video recorder - i think it was 2 years later when we got our first one! Especially glad to see the "final 7 section" which i haven't seen on TH-cam plus Mary Wilson from The Supremes singing live on the show.
Back in 1979 my cousin L Cpl. Bruce McAllister (RhACR) when not fighting terrorists during the bush war's was the 1979 Rhodesian National Disco Dance champion ...
I remember Peter Gordeno, I thought he was an exiting dancer, he could really dance. I also remember Julie Brown, who won the contest, she was a fantastic dancer.
People make fun of disco, but damn, it looks really hard, lol. Like regular people back in the day just could go out & dance like this? I had also always assumed that the men all wore leisure suits & the women wore flowy Halston-esque & Diane Von Furstenburg type wrap dresses. Lol more than likely I'm just basing all my information off of Saturday Night Fever & just not realizing it.
We came from the streets Taking body and the mind to it's limits and in to the dance floor Dance Hall's as The Vietnam war was taking place and it was boring 1969 to 1979.
10 things that you didn't know about Egypt 10 things that you didn't know about the Disco 10 years ago before 1979 many of the dancers that competed originally started with rock and roll dance northern soul funk and was originally creative choreographing dance before John Travolta as somebody did mention on this page of TH-cam. Catch you sometime on Assassin's Creed Xbox
I watch this in my "people who have as much energy as me" playlist when I want motivation to get up and work out doing cardio (aerobics) with my disco music playing. How I *think* I look when I am cutting loose lolol
Fliss - thanx for you support..I've only posted these clips up a week or two ago...it can take a little time to grow on people - im sure by christmas it will pick up!!...cheers..
Keb Darge is still dancing, a consultant for films like Northern Soul, he’s also a well known DJ, Deep Funk at Madame Jojos in SoHo ran for years. He knows everything about music history, soul and jazz funk and rare groove etc, look him up now in 2020
Clive Ellis Hi there Clive, yeah my dad taped these shows with his "JVC" off the telly. They were broadcast originally live too..........30 year have taken their toll on the picture and sound quality on the tapes....cheers!
+discoreview I recorded breakdance competitions in the 80's on VHS and have digitised them. I had similar problems with quality. but in a way it adds something!
Kristian Brandt I was, and i can tell you first hand that there has never been a more special time for me. I wish EVERYONE could have experienced the disco era as young people.

@discoreview I know, I looked him up on Wikipedia a couple of months ago when i first discovered this brilliant clip. I was (and still am) as devastated as you mate...
Lee Harold lived in the same road as me in Rayleigh, Essex. My father a straight laced accountant looked out of the window and Lee came zooming past on roller skates dressed in Lycra and wearing a Walkman and earphones! I expected my father to make a funny comment but he was full of praise for Lee who by all accounts was a lovely guy. Lee was older than me so never knew I existed but I wonder where he is now and what he’s doing?

Hey Ben, Can you ask your dad what the name of the second song in this clip is? Nobody knows it and I'd imagine he would :) Thanks man. I appreciate it.
I thought I remembered Peter Gordeno actually winning the World Disco Dancing championships in around 1977 - or is my memory playing tricks on me, did he only represent Britain and not win?
1969 1972 Once upon a time I Was a God of the Dance Floor creative dance the dog that came from the streets into the dancehall can you distinguish between John Travolta a copycat calling himself king of the Dance Floor lol 1976
THAT is awsome...We''ll you tell your dad if he wants a DVD copy of the whole show to send me his address and I'd be delighted to forward him a copy (no cost)
Just goes to show how fit they were back in the day. How many hosts would go from dancing in a blisteringly brilliant intro to introducing the danders? Sure wouldn’t happen today.
There was one representative from each of the ITV regions. The Border area covered part of both England and Scotland (and the contestants name sounds Scottish). HTV also covered part of England as well as Wales. But Julie Brown was living in Wales at the time according to Wikipedia.
From rock and roll to rhythm and blues and Funk and soul dancing 1969 when it was a boring Vietnam War nothing on TV in UK and playing hopscotch and dancing in the Streets and watching Kung Fu 1973 from the streets then into the dance halls the first cyborg robots artificial intelligence as many have never seen a robot dance before and other dancers making and busting new moves I believe they call it hip-hop today breakdancin

Mr. Peter Gordeno was a splendid dancer!! I must learn from his performances. God rest his soul.
Gordeno originally acted in U.F.O. as an astronaut.

It would be so fun to make a video with the contestants reactions in the present watching this video 36 years later
They're mostly dead from coke and aids.
Did you know beef and aids is a superfood?
Sorry, I meant "Vitamin-B"
I'm so high off my ass right now...
I suspect whoever could still squeeze into their 1979 outfit would be declared winner.
Oh god yes, I'd love that too!!

Wow! I stumbled upon this while joking around with my teen. I almost flipped when they said Julie Brown. So this is how Downtown Julie Brown got her big break. Awesome!
Deanna Poellnitz She went on to win the World Disco Championship too!
She did not win the World Championship. She won the UK Championship and went onto the Worlds but did not win.
@@OldSchoolRasslin What are you talking about? Julie Brown won the international version, the video is here on TH-cam.
Julie Brown did not win at all

Dowtown Judy Brown!!! Love her!! MTV’s best! We used to see her lots in NYC during the 90s
Julie Brown, I worked with her at Sony.

Well, to be fair, a good portion of that energy can be attributed to cocaine

The opening track is indeed by Gonzales, but it's entitled "Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet". To my knowledge, this particular edit was never released.
Yes- this was cover version as part of the dance medley (performed by the Tim McVey orchestra) for the show.....
