@@CharlesNYMMaybe if he had started younger but he falls into that Aaron Judge category where he feels new and overall is but is actually older than you think. They were older than a lot of the usual studs we see make their debut. Alonso is already like 29 and hasn't broken 200. Judge has broken 200 but he is 31! Thus it's basically impossible either will ever come close to catching the record. Alonso would need to his like 40 a year every year until he is 45 to catch Bonds. That ain't happening.

Also Gabby Hartnett was a hall of fame catcher for the Cubs playing with them from 1922-1940 he won the 1935 MVP and led them to multiple world series and his last 3 years 1938-1940 he was player-manager having a winning record during that time and leading them to a world series in 1938(this with charlie grimm starting the season at manager in 1938 and getting fired with the Cubs struggling and the Owner made Hartnett the player-manager and they went on a hot streak only losing 3 games the rest of the way to end up clinching the pennant and making world series and Hartnett of course hit a walk off home run against the pirates the team they were tied with in the standings the last game of the season to send cubs to world series)
