Good evening your Lord ship, have just seen your vid on starting the JCB 3cx and I really did enjoy it even the things that you said at the beginning, as an ex farm worker myself I understand about the subjects that you are doing and that all of these subjects are all inter connected with each other like the JCB that you are working on because without the tractor Mr J c Bamford would not have come up with the loader/excavator for building sites and other applications and so on and so fourth. Please keep your videos coming for as long as possible in this currant situation and I will look forward to the next one on the 3cx to see if it started, plus I am keeping an eye on my neighbours as I have a gentleman next door to me who celebrated his 100th birthday last year and I also pray that my friends are all safe and well and will come through this awful period in outstanding health.

I don't mid what your content is, it is for your sense of humour as much as anything else that I keep coming back. The Leyland 4/98 was a great engine, I had one in a gen set that clocked up something in excess of a hundred thousand hours over a twenty year period, It was not new when it started life on the gen set having come out of a road gritter truck originally. I rebuilt the engine as it had hydro lock due to cavitation on the liners replacing them with chrome plated on the outside to prevent that occurring again using the original pistons, just new rings. I also replaced all the bearings but did not need a regrind on the crank as the truck had only done forty one thousand miles when I got it as a scrapper from the council.One day soon I will have to get another 4/98 just for the love of it.

Do you have to shim the liners like a mk2 fordson engine I remember fitting pistons and liners in a Nuffield 4dm years ago but I can’t remember if it had shims also my dad told me he thought the Nuffield was a better tractor than the fordson major but he said the Nuffield steering was very poor
Back in the early 80's when i was about 6 we lived on a new build housing estate with yet more houses being built, the builders had three of these and one Hymac digging out the foundations and moving bricks etc, happy days!
Thanks for the video, It's a bloody good job there is travel restrictions world wide from Canada, The first stunt you pulled telling us he wouldn't let you start it, nearly got that big old rabbit a new home, without the ending just turning the key L.O.L. I've seen quite a few of those fuel filter brackets broken, there must of been a vibration issue with them at certain revs or something. I can't remember if that later engine in the 3c3 has the balancer some other leylands used depending on application. I've been ordering old stock parts from ebay here in Canada for mine thats shipped out of the USA. I had a main hyd filter in the same style packet as that fuel filter, and I think out of 4 hydra clamp seals one set of those was that style to. The cabs rough on that one but it still has some of the things like switches, lower steel dash cover, and brake fluid pot cover thats missing on mine. Looking forward to the next installment. I know mines sat out all winter here to with a rubber boot over the exhaust. and a plastic pail over the air inlet. some nob gas axed a hole in the bonnet and put one of those TB turbo type big metal pre filters like they put on the massey turbo kits on it. I'd bet if I was that bored by the end of the week it will start to L.O.L . Just remember there will be a lot of bored people around in a few weeks with short tempers. It's going to be worse for you guys with your restrictions right now that we don't have in Canada at this hour. Didn't mean to give you a hard time. Take care.

Leyland 498,I put on of them along with a Jeep Qiadra Trac 4wd system in a Chevy C15 pickup,,, that was a mistake to say the least! It would not have pulled the socks off a dead man, still I suppose it was better than the Olds 350 diesel it replaced.
But seriously, that was a nice looking wood pile. Lol. Don’t know if it’s something you have ever heard or not but I’ve had a couple old timers tell me this. If you have an engine with a manifold heater and a mechanical fuel shut off on the pump, cycle the heater once and crank it for 5 or so seconds with the fuel off to draw warm air into the cylinders. Then cycle the hater again and crank with the fuel on so your starting off with warm air and you keep drawing it after, and the cylinders won’t load up with cold unburned fuel. I’ve tried it when it’s been really cold out and it seems like it works better. Didn’t know if that engine had a mechanical shutoff or a solenoid but figured it might come in handy in the future.

Well I was going to suggest that you should have used a damp cloth to clean the bezel on the hour meter to avoid scratching it but then it occurred to me that the cloth bag you showed us has never had anything in it. So to press on, that was showing all the potential signs of life for such an old machine that had been sitting for so long. Just have to see if I can find part 2 to see what happened as the Disney channel does not appeal to me.

I am old enough (but only just) to remember getting stuck behind these old 3C dinosaurs on the roads as they struggled to drive up hills (We have plenty up here) and the queues of traffic behind the dratted things. Thankfully, JCB were able to slowly improve technology (Over the course of twenty years and more) and now it is a rare sight to see a 3CX on the road. Mini diggers having taken over. That picture of George Saunders dressed up as a Halloween Creme Egg was scary as scary can be lad. I had no idea he was into that sort of thing. Still, could be worse he might dress up as an Easter Bunny Creme Egg and start the old JCB 3C in Part 2!
I had a model 3C as a kid. My uncle had one for his ground works company. Loved having to climb in through the window to get in. Was allowed to work the back actor on the odd occasion. Is the only road going vehicle that I nearly got motion sick in when going along with all that rocking back and forth. Still my favourite JCB though.

When I think of a JCB - this is exactly the model that I grew up with. Born in '67, so a kid all throughout the 1970s.
