    😀😀 I'll bet I'm.your only Welsh subscriber that actually lives in Belarus. It get bloody cold here on a winter's night, as you rightly said. I've seen, more than once, the tractor driver, light a wood fire under the sump, early morning. Go for a cuppa and return 1/2 later... No paint on the engine, but I would start! Enjoyed. 👍👍👍

    it is a water-cooled two-stroke engine, if you let it run enough then it also heats the diesel engine and the exhaust manifold has a built in intake to heat the incoming air

    Fantastic video ,always worth the time to view & hence why I subscribe. Just wanted to say , I like the way the videos are made, your not rushing through latest subject’s, especially with the crawler film, explaining the machine, showing the 2 engines & what they do , then on to the petrol engine problems, your showing us all what you are doing & explaining clearly & very good clear camera work. Taking the old magneto off & showing us the make up of the components & the faults !!! Most other poorer channels old part off , new part on & that’s it , please keep the way you do things & the format as it’s a winner !!!!! You create the interest in the videos which is a very good lead into the next crawler episode, many thanks enjoyed !!! If you were to do some channel stickers, would like some to help raise the subscriber numbers, thanks Stuart

    20 years ago my cousin converted an old Cat bull dozier from pony start to electric starter. That was the biggest starter I had ever seen. Only problem was the old Cat had no way to charge the battery so the contractor put it on a charger every night to keep the battery up.
    Great show. Thanks for bringing great content to you tube.

    Cheers Lord Muck, you made a glum day bright wiith another fine installment!. When I was a kid (so in the late 1970's) my dad bought a pale blue Moskvitch. It was a tank of a thing and had the fuel filler behind the rear number plate it ,was a bit basic after Jaguar 420G (long story). Then, as a young bloke living opposite a mill with a big stone built water tower that was scheduled for demolition a big CAT D??? something (Have slept a lot since those days) appeared for the demoltion work along with a large 20+ton Ackerman 360. The CAT D????? had a donley engine to fire that up. The puny little donkey engine sounded rubbish, but the main engine was glorious! Top video young man!

    I had the dubious pleasure of working on some Belarus Dump Trucks (6x4) on a motorway construction site in the early 80's. Very heavily constructed castings from sh*t metal, half shafts kept shearing, but they tended to be overloaded most of the time anyway. Good clutches, well never had to change one anyway. Big V8 diesel engines, no turbo's in those days, manual gearboxes, left hand drive, wooden framed cabs with steel cladding. Very crude and clumsy, but no doubt cheap as vodka at the time!

Ever since I have been watching tractor videos my feed has been polluted with dealerships trying to sell their new stuff, I wonder if all these new tractors with plastic parts will last as long as the good old ones! Here in Canada, in winter it is so cold, plastic cracks very easy.

      @@LordMuck so was the 2 stroke donkey engine air or water cooled? If it was water cooled did they use the warm coolant to flow around the bigger engine to help warm it up like CAT used to do. Same with the exhaust gases being used to warm stuff up.
      All else fails you put a can of oil under the oil pan and set it alight. Either warms the engine or burns it out either way it gets hot. Lol

    Cool something we've been waiting a while to see ,glad you finally managed to get some progress. I think I've seen those parts guys site a while ago and they have parts for my 4 WD 1507 at good prices, if they'll ship to Canada. It's roasting hot here today I'm supposed to be fixing a 26 HP Briggs & scrap iron in a zero turn mower, but watching this with a cold glass of fruit juice in the cool air of the office is way more fun.
    The next jobs finishing a Belarus 572 and enjoying watching the arse end of that disappearing over the horizon when I get paid $1000 and it leaves ! I'm getting a quote on my headstone that says" I told you if I kept fixing those F'in Belarus's it would be the death of me !"
    The hair cut deal was bad here to , I was 3 months over when they finally opened, was kinda nice getting it done, but the veiw of the hot chick doing it was better L.O.L. One of my customers said he did his own "you don't say" it looked like he set the 3 point height at 2 with a leaky piston seal, found 4th gear high range dual power. Then drove on in the dark without turning the work lamps on. The headlands didn't look that good, then he took his hat off and the 4 acres in the middle wasn't any better either ! Thanks for the video, looking forward to part 2. Take care guys

    As you mentioned Caterpillar used to have a motor simlar to that,we called the pony motors.Beat heck pout of trying to start a Diesel that had been sitting outside in Korean winters.Crank up the pony,release the compression releases on the Main spin the big brute over normally you could start on one tank of pony motor fuel.Btw have you ever worked on the old International UD series engines?They were really strange beasts,started on gasoline,then by operating the controls operator could switch engine to run on diesel.I still have bad dreams about trying to start those beasts in very cold weather.

    • @LordMuck
      @LordMuck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CAT referred to their starting motors as Donkey engines, John Deere used the term 'Pony Motor'.
      Yes we had an IH crawler here for some years that started on gasoline then turned on to diesel.

    • @LordMuck
      @LordMuck  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd imagine the Russians copied IH as they also did with the main engine design

    • @oldamericaniron5767
      @oldamericaniron5767 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      About what year is that crawler? So is the main engine somewhat of a copy. I could be wrong but I think Russia bought the rights for some models from Caterpillar. Except for the name on it, the Stalinet 60 appears to be an exact copy of the Cat 60 and the 100 a copy of a D7. On a slightly different subject of crawlers. Holt often gets credit for the first crawlers but Lombard log haulers preceded him and Hornsby preceded Lombard. I could be wrong but I think Hornsby was first.

    • @LordMuck
      @LordMuck  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is about 1973. IH sold some manufacturing rights to some older designs.
      Hornsby were trialling caterpillar type tracks long before many others.

    I'm guessing you know this:
    From watching Squatch253's channel (guy is OBSESSED with all things Cat) I know that the Cat donkey engine not only (in the end) turns the big engine over, but it shares the exhaust and cooling system. Thus, running the donkey engine prior to engaging the clutch warms the exhaust and water of the big engine.

      That's correct, the water gets warmed up by the donkey then it all helps the main engine start to turn over with a better chance of firing up.
