- Hello everyone, hopefully we're having a great day! Today we're going to be taking a look at "Dentist" from the film adaptation of Little Shop of Horrors. I've never seen this movie before, but I was fortunate enough to see Christian Borle in this roll a couple months ago. I'm really excited to see what Steve Martin can bring to the roll.

You need to watch the whole movie. The Audrey 2 was a marvel of prop/puppetry work. The cast was stellar. Levi Stubbs was the perfect voice of the monster plant - rich, full, sassy, emotive. There are also excellent cameos (Murray, Guest, Morton, more). Keep an eye out.
A lot of the film is done through puppetry (being directed by Frank Oz I imagine it's Jim Henson puppetry) with the final form of the plant needing around 60 puppeteers to operate it so I imagine the scene inside the mouth is just a big puppet mixed with forced perspective
Jim Henson wasn't involved, this was very much Frank Oz going out on his own, but Jim's son Brian (who would be the caretaker for the Muppets after his passing) was the lead puppeteer on Audrey II.
My favourite part is Bill Murray with Steve Martin, cracks me up every single time. Just thinking about it 😂 Sooo good! 💜
You'll love the movie, such a good set of comedy skits and fantastic songs. Amazing cast, Rock Moranis, Ellen Greene, Bill Murry, Steve Martin, John Belushi, John Candy. Not to mention the amazing Levi Stubbs of the four tops phenomenal voice for the Audrey 2 part. So many find memories watching this when it came out. Really enjoyed your reaction will definately watch the full film one.

original inspired an off broadway musical, that got adapted into a movie with some canges then the off broadway play incorporated a lot of the changes
I'm not so sure you can refer to this 1986 film remake of Little Shop Of Horrors as "the original" since that dubious honor goes to the 1960 Roger Corman film of the same name, story, characters, etc. It was later revived in 1982 as a stage musical and was a big enough hit to garner this 1986 remake directed by Frank Oz of Muppet/Yoda fame.
Steve Martin rocks the role for sure. My favorite scene that's just in the film is when Bill Murray cameos as a masochist dental patient with an appointment to see the sadist Dentist. LOL! Talk about a match made in heaven.

The original ending is also on the blu-ray release, I believe it lets you choose which version of the film you want to watch rather than having to watch the original ending separately.

This movie actually isn’t the original, it was a movie first in the 60s then a musical, then this move, then back on Broadway

Honestly, I kind of prefer the demo for "I Found a Hobby" to "Dentist!", the song that ended up in the show. I don't know if that had to do with the quality of the song or that if (by the time I actually listened to "Hobby") "Dentist" had just gotten stale because I'd heard it too many times.
I'm not the biggest fan of the film, but I loved the stage version when I saw it
Calling it "the original" is a bit of a misnomer as it was originally a Roger Corman film.
