Not all things new are better, so beautifully demonstrated here in this video. So many shops lost in the name of progress.

I remember a lady with sad eyes playing the accordion at the entrance to a market. And I remember Stevensons cafe with a beautiful interior, I remember my mum saying staff went to work as usual to find it demolished to the ground. I see similar buildings in Chester now, they obviously had better insight !

Fascinating that being a Holywell lad who works in Wrexham and Supports Wrexham. I have only seen the town from the late 90s onwards, so seeing the streets from generations before is so interesting.

It breaks the heart to see what we are missing, all those lovely old buildings, social history, gone forever. All those businesses gone, characters, gone.....why? Because of greed, short-sightedness and "progress". The world has gone mad, however, up until covid/brexit, was relatively calm. Tourism, which makes £££,....People want to see history, social history it is an education. Look at the attention Wrexham AFC is rightly getting worldwide because of being one of the oldest Association Football teams and national stadiums in the world. We NEED a beer/Breweries museum, a coal mining/steel making museum, not just statues, but education into WHY these industries have gone. Again political short-sightedness. Good Times produces weak men, weak men = hard times....Hard times are coming.

Yes the streets are cleaner, brighter and compared to yesterday absolutely soulless. If only there had been foresight and investment buildings such as the lovely markets would have been saved, and horrors such as the ‘people’s market’ (which sounds as though it should be in some suppressed and far away country) could have been avoided. Ah well hindsight is wonderful.

Interesting collection of photographs - are they available elsewhere with years and background information?
Also why is the video titled "...in film" when it's a montage of pictures?

Pause at time 6.03 and you'll see a personal pic taken by my grandad, of me as a child (dark hair in a pony tail) with my cousin and my grandmother. Good memories!
