Love the varied content Roger cheers. I've had a look through your videos for "Resin Bounded" paths and driveways, cant see any and wondered if you have covered it or have any videos on the process. Thank you Stay safe Conor
Always great content 👌 thank you . One thing at the beginning of the video I thought I had got on a rappers music channel , you looked the part , Roger the rap or Grand Master Flash. You are very good at what you do, Rog . Great stuff👍
Usually I DIY. but can't help but think by the time you have bought materials, hired sprayer, compressor and scaffolding you may as well get someone to do it.
We have old rendering that now needs a face lift. It's old but mostly sound with a few very small blown areas. I think it may even be pebble dash that's been painted. I'm on expert at this, sorry 😂. We want to have smooth render. My question is do you think we have to remove what's there back to brick first or could we render over the top of what's there assuming it's still holding up nicely? I have no idea of the age of what's there now but the property it 1930s so it's probably well old. We've been quoted to have the old removed and to have new render and the price blew our socks off to be fair. We only have a tiny one bedroom detached bungalow. Thanks Roger.
You’ve answered your own question, when you said you had areas that were blown it means you’re likely to have other areas also blow in time so why spend money putting something that won’t last over the top. You need it all stripping off and doing properly, going over anything you don’t know the history of is bodging pure and simple.
Can you render the bricks first then go over with this? I have a brick house I’ve done the extension out of block (to render it all) but I think getting the house rendered then doing this over everywhere will be cheaper then render everywhere
I do love a smart render and I dread people fitting spots outside to light it up, those spots will find every uneven patch if they are poi nted at the wrong place. :)
Good video. I used to put on by hand. I brought a 50L air compressor and a £20 hopper gun off eBay. And never looked back! I would never hand apply it again less mess and use a lot Less material.
I bet you was!!! Air compressor and hopper gun are much cheaper and easier to clean aswell! You only have to clean the hopper gun when your done. I can’t recommend it highly enough
Prefer hand finished ,spraying is easier and less messy ,use to spray tyrolean years ago with a compressor and hopper when sprayed it has a similar finish
What happened to Cullamix ? - used it in a Tyrolean hand cranked bucket that flicked the stuff onto the wall, and promptly took all the skin of your winding hand. Total cost about £15 ( it was 40 years ago ) a bit less than the gear you're using now , and less of a pain to clean up.
It will always be dubious spraying or applying anything onto a substrate you know little about or how long it’s been on, fine if you are doing the whole job base coat and the works from scratch but if not you could have issues. Looks messy and masses of sheeting down, it wouldn’t be so easy cleaning up if it had been pissing down with rain just like any rendering system.
@@SkillBuilder you don’t need to do it in the rain because whatever the forecast says and because you live on an island like the uk you’ll always get rain and get caught out by the rain. If you’ve got material laying on scaffold boards or on plastic sheeting you’re in for a mess when it gets wet, no matter how many times you check the weather in the uk you’ll always get days when you’re caught out applying any kind of external finish.
This is most comon way of exterior finish in Europe. So with experience I can tell you this is not good. This is building protection and like that you need to apply it carefully and when you pass one square meter or two you need to come back and open it. This is not good. I've seen this trials all around and they failed. Trowel and be fast. One more thing. You nee to be careful it's not to hot or windy. But weather in UK is perfect. We use to know get up early and start at 5am before get hot. At least in UK you don't have this problem.
We have been using this material in the U.K for a long time and if you watch the video you will see we did go back over it. The point about heat and wind was made. Maybe it is hard for you to follow our funny English but we are all over this and it won't fail. We have hundreds of examples of this in the U.K. EWI would not be in business if the products didn't work.
@@SkillBuilder I expect this from you. I gave you some advices in the past but you didn't accept. You think that foreign people doesn't know nothing about construction in the UK. Mate I'm working last there years all around England and I can tell you that you're 20 years behind Europe. I'm using wago for 20 years in one East European country. Press fittings for 15... So... You shouldn't take this like bad comment, you should take this like advice and another opinion. Thank you for your comment. I'll try to improve my English. In meantime you should lisent advices and try to improve your construction.
Schluter is in the business in UK and US selling thing which is not suitable for wet rooms and bathrooms. We knew it was bad from beginning. We have so many small manufacturers who are doing better thing than ditra. To be honest I was surprised how good bathrooms are after 20 years with tiles set direct on plywood.
@@jbjoe249 Press fit is hardly something to be proud of. Quicker, cheeper (labour) and no hot works yes, but will it last more than 20 years or 50 before the o rings fail?
I love the fact that even at the ripe old age of 70 you are still happy to roll up your sleeves and learn something new. Another great video Roger.

Not yet mate. 70 is my age
Wow, I forget you are 70, I hope I'm as active when / if I reach 70.
Never 70 🤔
@@SkillBuildermate ...I can only pray to be as fit as you at 70 ...
Always a pleasure to be on-site with Roger!

Hi Conor
We have one coming soon but it is just technical info, We are looking to do a project next year.
@@SkillBuilder Cool, thank you

Looking great Dodge 👍
Currently having the rendering done on the block of flats I live in... Didn't realise this is how they did it, but I saw them spraying the other day!
Usually I DIY. but can't help but think by the time you have bought materials, hired sprayer, compressor and scaffolding you may as well get someone to do it.
Forget rendering if you’re a diyer 👍
Spraying is quick fairly clean but not the same as hand finishing it’s similar to spraying tyrolean with a hopper gun
Hi Roger have you had any experience with Cork Sol rendering please.
You are never too old or too clever to learn something new….

Always good to find new and innovative products out there. 👍👍
I tried spray rendering and it set really quick but after a couple of days the Mrs managed to wriggle her way out of it
Is this product suitable straight onto brick or blockwork? Looks a nice finish but I assume it is dependant upon the condition of the substrate
I would use it on fair faced blocks with a primer but not on brick. I think painting bricks is asking for trouble.
Can you render the bricks first then go over with this? I have a brick house I’ve done the extension out of block (to render it all) but I think getting the house rendered then doing this over everywhere will be cheaper then render everywhere

Absolute rubbish you would never go straight over block work without a basecoat
Painting bricks is asking for trouble lol what made that up 😂😂
How does it compare to cork spray?
I do love a smart render and I dread people fitting spots outside to light it up, those spots will find every uneven patch if they are poi nted at the wrong place. :)
same deal with wall lights, the best brickwork in the world also looks crap with a raking light
Renders night mare they should be banned 😂

Less material.
I had one of those hopper guns but I leant it to a plasterer and he sold it on ebay for £20.00 I was bloody fuming.

Are you able to give a rough cost per sq m based on a professional application
Is this stuff ok over lime mortar?
Yep this is what I have doing 12-14.
Will this work with a hopper gun? Cheers
not this product but I have sprayed sharp sand and cement/lime with a hopper and it worked well but you need a massive compressor.
Looks better than thin coat

I have looked into using Culamix, you can still buy the flicker so it might even work with this EWI product. I will give it a try.
roger baby this is a young mans sport.
You are not wrong
You're getting old Roger 😂 keep it up buddy

Should have showed it on a different color. It's hard to see how it really works.
Maybe he can go back to the house owner and ask them to change it again to another colour so he can do it again especially for you 🙄
After finishing the job, you ended up looking like you saw a ghost 😄
think il leave that to the big boys
It looks a lot like tyrollean finish.
yes, if you trowel it you get more of a K Rend look
Never seen a police officer render a house 😂
