    This was recorded using the emulator Project 64, with the Glide64 plugin. This plugin is NOT ideal, as it darkens the game and cannot display certain textures correctly. GlideN64 works much better I've found after the fact. I used a GameCube controller to play. For a commentated Let's Play of this game, check out my playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLGGFX-hnXvGoh1-6Bz7TJtGt5fjY_tWyX.html

      Actually, this game was released almost two months before Metal Gear Solid and was based on a movie that was released two years prior, which itself was based on a TV show that initially aired 30 years earlier. In fact, the levels in this game play out like a stealth mission from the shows and movies, with the agents knocking people out, taking their identities, sabotaging equipment, faking documents, framing other people, and overall tricking the bad guys into doing what they want. As Martin Landau, who played Rollin Hand on the TV show, stated in an interview, "Mission was a mind game. The ideal mission was getting in and getting out without anyone ever knowing we were there." In other words, Jim Phelps and his fellow IMF agents were out saving the world when Solid Snake was in diapers.

      @imfsresidentotaku9699 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lightup6751 This game is far from "horrific," and comparing it to MGS isn't going to prove you right. And while this game may have been a nightmare to make, calling it "a corporate nightmare" is pushing it. The people behind the game wanted to create "a spy simulation" that would be worthy of the Mission: Impossible film, and I'd say they succeeded. There were "a lot of good ideas," but they were not "poorly executed." Quite the contrary. As I mentioned above, the missions in this game play out like ones from the shows and movies. In fact, I'd say this game is more faithful to the original source material than the movie is. It makes you think like an IMF agent. You need to carefully complete each of the objectives to make sure that the mission is a success, and one mistake could ruin the whole operation. Also, you spend most of your comment talking about how "horrific" this game was, then you say you "still loved it as a kid." You can't have it both ways.

    I remember waiting for this game to come out back in the day, both EGM and Gamepro as well as Nintendo Power magazines would show very realistic looking screen shots of the game and some of those screen shots were of course certain parts of the game, and there were some that weren’t.
    After playing Goldeneye for a year and having a blast with it, many of us that enjoyed the spy experience, were so hyped for this game.
    Sadly the game would get pushed back constantly from it’s original release date and every month in one of the aforementioned magazines, we would see a new screen shot or weapon of some sort to hype us up more and the developers would tell the magazines for everyone to just be patient and they were sorry, but they just wanted to give us the most realistic and bad ass experience as a spy, and the game would be out soon, only to be delayed again.
    Until finally, we got our release date, and the game comes out, and fans immediately didn’t like it because they waited very long for this and once they got their hands on it, they felt the game was half assed, glitchy, broken, ugly, very short, very difficult and very stupidly boring.
    When I first got it, I actually liked it and had a good time playing it, especially since there was some connection to the first movie with Tom Cruise, there was a lot of things from the movie in the game and I loved that because I am a fan of the movie franchise.
    I think the game was ahead of it’s time and I understand where the developers were coming from, they tried their hardest to give us an authentic spy experience and they were pretty damn close in my opinion.

      I playing it right now (on real hardware), the game actually still holds up ! In less than 15 minutes, you'll get used to the buttons layout and then you'll play just like him. When buying it, I thought it'll be a chore to play, it's actually still very enjoyable

    This was a solid and frustrating mission game at the same time. It's better than the mixed reviews it received but had the unfair advantage at being compared to Goldeneye at the time.

    It would be awesome if this game got a modern day remake. I always loved the embassy mission segments. It was awesome how each mission connected to the other. It genuinely felt like a story. Sure, the aiming is janky, but it doesn't take away from the game due to most enemies only require 1 shot to kill them. It would've been better if there was a better lock-on system instead of free aim. The developers tried too much to copy off of Goldeneye's aiming system and it failed. There's a lot of content in this game though, which makes it worth buying and playing. I re-bought a copy on eBay for around £5.
