- This was a bad LCD module No LCD modules were harmed.... much :)
It's not a matter of whether or not it can be done but how hard as this is the difference between a negative and positive LCD display. Apparently it's not too bad getting the polariser off.
The trick now is getting it re-assembled again. As it's a bad module I expect the same issues with it that it had before. - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
Thank you sir. As an actual trucker that uses a CB, the original negative display is completely unreadable in bright daylight. Even a dim 45 year old red 7 segment on my Samdo 700 radio is more readable than the stupid idea they had with the original display. I can't be the only person out there that won't use the radio because the display is unreadable after sunrise.

I think it will work fine. I was able to get the old glue off the glass so I don't see an issue getting a new polariser on there.
@@Mark19960 I already ordered some film myself. I remembered having a game and watch when I was around 10, it stopped working and after cleaning the zebra stripe, I put the film on backwards and it became a negative. This would be a game changer for the 980. Like I said, it's unreadable in sunlight.
@@karlporath8904 I think if your careful you can get it off.
I wasn't exactly gentle with it but I had the benefit of having the module desoldered and removed from the frame.
@@Mark19960 I planned on starting with a hairdryer and if that isn't enough being gentle with my hot air station at it's lowest setting 100c. It just seems a waste letting it sit on the shelf while I put wear and tear on my classic radios from the 60's to the 80's. Although it's hard to beat the RX and TX quality I'm getting today out of my Sears RoadTalker ssb.
@@karlporath8904 Light heat may be enough really. The glue was not hard to remove with solvent and it was pretty soft without heat so i think a hair dryer might be enough.
Rumor has it you sell the channel king boards? I have a tuned and modded 980 ssb and barely read but just half the channel. I considered buying a new one and swapping screens but I read some issue with the eprom
Cool, would have been better. Any attempts at changing wx frequencies to anything else in 137-174 mhz range, not all, but channels that have a weak or no wx broadcast station present????
hey Mark I see a lot of videos here on the 980 is it a good radio for SSB I am looking for a temp replacement for 10m conversion i am working on and to keep it for a back up is the 980 good or do you use them because they easy to modify and upgrade thanks for any info and opinions.
hay mark long time no hear have a q i have a 980ssb i see a prob why is it when in ssb mode as soon as i key the mic the power meter goes down to zero with in seconds of keying the mic only happens on ssb not am any help thanks
why not cut it in segments and stick it back on at 90 degrees
Very interesting, I will stay tuned. I think I could barely see the reversed purple or color background.
It's just the lighting and how I was holding it. I just need to get some film now.

That's a good question. it might. But you have to risk damaging the display to find out.
So, color me stupid but does this mean the fault all along was a defective polarizing film darkening with age/heat?
No, it was in response to a question that someone asked on the previous video.
The question as whether or not the display could be changed from positive to negative and vice versa. Natually yes, you can do it but this was more of a look into how hard it would be.
Still bloody hard, but doable. That module is still bad :)
