  • In this video, I'll go through components I've installed between my compressor and my plasma cutter, to ensure I keep any entrained moisture in my air lines, out of my plasma cutter.
Moisture in the air stream entering your plasma cutter is detrimental to cut quality and consumable lifespan.
The main components of my air system are:
FR894 filter regulator (1/2" inlet and outlet)
FLM864 coalescing filter & desiccant dryer (1/2" inlet and outlet)
AT1000 Motorguard filter (1/4" inlet and outlet)
If you have any suggestions of other items that would be beneficial to keeping the air supply 'moisture free', please put them in the comments below.

Thanks again for watching and I'll see you in the next video.
Note: The parts mentioned in this video might not be correct for your set up, so please conduct your own research before purchasing components.

There seems to be some advantage to cool the air between the compressor and the tank. Some TH-camrs are constructing coolers out of copper tubing. Thanks for taking us on the journey of your cnc plasma build!

Thanks Frank, I'm glad you've enjoyed the build series of videos. I made them as a 'thankyou' to the guys whose videos I found helpful when I was researching to build my table. Hopefully they'll help others in the future.
Yes, I've seen some copper pipe coolers and I figured they went between the compressor and tank....that would definitely reduce the amount of moisture getting into the tank, and hence, into the lines towards the cutter.

I have been trying to figure out the controls for cnc plasma for a year or so and finally was about there when I found your build. Wish I had found a set of videos like yours back then. I am definitely determined to build my own machine. Thanks for your input. I may reach out to you in the future. I grew up in the 1960s when it cost to call the next town, now we can communicate on the opposite side of the globe for free. Isn’t it grand!

I'm with you, Frank...the world is a smaller place now. Feel free to reach out any time....my email address is in the About tab of my TH-cam channel. I'd be happy to help with any questions you have.

Great job on the build. When you set up any filer/dryer system there should be at least 25 feet of air line. That gives the air time to cool down. Dryers are not designed to remove steam and that's what's coming directly out of the compressor. The best thing to use is a refrigerator dryer.

Thanks Mike. My filter/desiccant dryer on the plasma table has about 30' of hose connecting it to the compressor. Ideally I'd like to cool the air coming out of the compressor head before it goes into the storage tank, as I'm always draining water out of the bottom of the compressor tank.
I have just bought a bigger compressor and I'm going to make a dryer/dropout unit with drains on each of the 4 legs. I need to keep the water out of the airlines going to my table, so I'll make a video about it.

My plasma cut with to much smoke...why??

Hi Al, when you say smoke, are you referring to the smoke that's produced by the process of cutting metal with the plasma torch...if so, that's why we add a water bath to the table, to trap most of the smoke, fumes and sparks from the plasma cutting process.
