    Just so you all know, the Alaskan bush pilot you see singing, happens to be the guy who flew treadwell to and from this area all those summers! Unfortunately he was the one that was flying in to pick up treadwell and flew over his camp and seen the bear on top of treadwell, tried to “buzz the bear”, fling low over it, when interviewed he said the bear didn’t even look up! I have flown with this great Alaskan pilot many times.

    Now the long horns are gone,
    And the drovers are gone,
    The Comanches are gone,
    And the outlaws are gone,
    Geronimo is gone,
    And Sam Bass is gone,
    And the lion is gone,
    And the red wolf is gone. And the Treadwell is gone💔
    Well he cursed all the roads and the oil men,
    And he cursed the automobile,
    Said this is no place for an hombre like I am,
    In this new world of asphalt and steel.
    Then he'd look off some place in the distance,
    At something only he could see,
    He'd say all that's left now of the old days,
    Those damned old coyotes and me.
    And they go hoo yip hoo yip hoo

    What incredible footage, what a life, so many people are celebrated for having pushed limits till it cost lives, but the average mortgage owner laughs at this guy, through clenched teeth, not having lived one thousandth of the freedom and communion that this guy has. Nice of Werner to have bridged us to him and his work (this collaboration is probably the piece of work that took Werner into a category of his own as a filmmaker).

      @@joeybaseball7352 no, that was his to dream. You focus on his death, but he lived 13 years of his personal bliss with the bears. And even in death, he died the way he wanted. That is surely a level of self-realization that is difficult for most people to attain. Could you say the same for yourself at the twilight of your life, that you have lived your own dream with the same conviction as he did for his?

    • @b.s.a.suburbiaproductions840
      @b.s.a.suburbiaproductions840 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      At the end of the day, everyone has different dreams and we find contentment in different ways. Are you saying that every “average mortgage owner” secretly wants to live among bears in the wild? Some probably do, but there are many many reasons why that’s not moral or feasible to do. If you watch the rest of the movie, they explain that Treadwell’s actions were in many ways harmful and disrespectful to the wildlife he claimed to protect - he was too delusional and self righteous to care about the consequences of his behaviour. Plus, living in the wild and “returning to monke” sounds ideal on paper, but actually trying to live that way sucks balls - even Treadwell had to return to human civilisation for most of the year.
      All that said, he was undeniably a unique soul, and the fact that he was taken from the world in such a brutal manner is terribly sad. Herzog is very attracted to individuals like Treadwell - he clearly respects him both as a filmmaker and someone who pushed against the grain of society, even though he disagrees with Treadwell’s worldview. I feel the same way. Humans may be part of nature, but as the Native American guy says, we walk separately from other species for a reason. Nature isn’t an amusement park.

    • @chrissibersky4617
      @chrissibersky4617 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. The average mortgage owner don't laugh at him or wish to be him. They have a family they love and a job they like. It's obvious Tim was envious of that, but weren't able to get that for him self. He just couldn't function in society but he found the next best thing that he thought worked for him.
      There are some things Herzog chosen to not mention in this film.
      Treadwell was very depressed and stressed on this last trip. He mentioned that Amy was going to leave him, but also the park service had warned him several times for breaking the rules and were probably about to stop him from ever coming back.
      His last camp was in the middle of the path the bears take to go to their hibernation. Bears are most desperate for eating in the fall to be able to survive the winter and this year they had bad luck with the weather and were exceptionality desperat.
      It could be suicide by bear infront of the woman who was going to leave him.
      He must have known it was suicide to camp there.
      But I respect that Herzog left that part and those speculations out of the movie. It's respectful.

    I have to admire Timothy Treadwell he died doing what he loved doing the most. I watch this documentary many times. How he talks about drugs and alcohol. I was a drug addict and an alcoholic. He did something that we wouldn't dare do. He was following his totem or his calling. He did it for 13 years with no weapons. Treadwell's favorite animals are the bears. The way he went there to study the bear's and nature if anything that probably had kept him alive even longer. Never knock someone down just because just trying to change their lifestyle and following their calling or totem.

    Apparently, it were not the bear that he knew to kill them but other bears. Non the less if he wanted peace now he founded. Damn.. it wasn't fair neither for them neither for the bears. Both creatures made mistakes. Earth creatures just need food that comes from lives.. and that cause violence. Peace y'all.

      Yep, everything in the wild is sizing you up. Most animals are afraid of humans because they don't know what we are or what we can do. When they do figure us out and realize we're not much of a threat physically they don't bother eating us because we're bone, fat, and muscle and generally not worth the energy to kill and digest. Treadwell figured out the hard way some bears will take a sample taste of human if they're hungry and desperate enough.

    Treadwell ask for what happen to him sorry to say. Go read up on him. 1. Let's camp next to a known river where bears gather for feeding. 2. let's not move camp every 7 to 10 days which is rule at this park. 3. Never store your food cooler in your own tent. Which he did. .these things he had been called out for by park rangers and other campers through the years. But there's more. This spot he was at he usually would have been at 3 weeks prior. This put him in contact with bears he hadn't seen before and hungry bears getting there last meals before hibernation. . He noted in his log the morning of the day he died that a bear was hoovering around that hed never seen before undersized and aggressive looking.

    • @VictoriaHudson
      @VictoriaHudson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. I read a National Geo article about him long ago - it was the year he was killed, and it contained tons of quotes from actual environmentalists, animal behaviorists, park rangers etc., who all said they kept warning him that he was doing more harm than good. One quote I always remember is that one person said Tim told him he didn’t care if he ended up “being bear scat, but he didn’t use the word scat.” Almost got his wish - only problem was two bears were killed, and the one who ate them hadn’t had time enough to digest him before being shot. Sheesh.
