They're gonna be lookin for guys who die to the first goomba, and they're gonna find em
They're really gonna be lookin for the guys who die to the first gonna twice in succession
They're gonna be lookin for guys who die to the first... KOOPA
they’re gonna be looking for guys that can see, don’t worry
but how will they see them?

3rd level Simpleflips reference
They should really look for guys who can't see. They need the help more.
6:53 Simpleflips starts pointing at you with his horrid appendage.
How did I not see that
I can't believe they added body horror into SimpleFlips arc, but after the coma and the orange juice, i can believe it.
I bet Jerma would've just cleared his throat and instantly nailed that new spring sound 2:12
25:37 Here we see a rare moment of Simpleflips directly adressing the little pocket Simpleflips who is actually using the controller off screen. What a blunder for the editor to leave a scene like that in
Shoutouts to the piece of coral Simple runs into at 26:04 that was removed from the NSO version of Lost Levels.
chris pratt nailing that "koopas" quicktime event
I think playing this game growing up conditioned my tolerance of shitty FoV settings in games.
After this game, everything feels like you're a goddamned chameleon with how much more you can see.
don't forget the dark gameboy screen requiring external light for extra difficulty (I had the purple worm light)
video game equivalent of cia torture training
... I don't think chameleons have especially good eyesight?
@@romajimamulothey had the unique ability to independently move and focus their eyes independently of each other. I'm not sure how much acuity they have but they do have pretty wild FoV when they want to.
@@romajimamulop much all lizards have 4 cones in their eyes (more colors than we can see) and have a wild fov they can see like all the way around them
he paused to say “koopas” bc he couldn’t remember what shellcreepers were called
no koopas or goombas in og Mario Bros
To be fair, nobody except Nintendo themselves called the turtles "Shellcreepers."
Fun fact, this is how Miyamoto wanted the original NES version to look, and his team made him pan the camera way out
the koopas were supposed to be called koopers also
so Miyamoto has always been pulling Miyamotos

Big fan of how the same hammer bro found him twice, once normally and once on the star playthrough, and both times he said "you found me." 8:44 and 20:03
Edit: they were different Hammer Bros in different levels. It's still uncanny regardless.
The Simpleflips Consistency at work
Love to see attention to detail like that from the writers
That's... Genuinely insane, what the fuck??
This game looks like one of those “so retro” gifs.
If Mario, then only Bros! 🔥

Hidden Super Mario fact!
When playing super Mario bros. On the Nintendo entertainment system, if you hit the power button, it will turn off!

37:28 I can't believe Simple saying, "That's that shit Childish Gambino was talkin about," didn't make the highlights vid lmao, I had a good chuckle when he said that
hark killed it with the edits for this one

2:11 "I can't imitate that!" homeboy you haven't let that stop you for years i don't know why you'd start quitting now
I honestly really like this version of SMB. The ridiculous zoom-in can suck but they did their best to mitigate it, some areas of the levels automatically move the camera to make sure you can see where you're going. It has the effect of keeping you at a slower pace and it just feels like a slightly more relaxed version of Mario. Also they went way harder with the extras and unlockables than they needed to and it's just so charming.
I don't even have claustrophobia but watching this game just induced it.
I loved "He's beyond human splanguage" when talking about funny XqC
to whoever submitted "Never let up!" from mario and luigi dream team to play in simple's background: i love you
I'm going to randomly add.... *_Koopas_* to my sentences whenever possible.
SMB Deluxe was how I played SMB1 until quite a few years later. I LOVED it. It's been forever since I've seen it and I had no idea the crunch was that bad LOL.
Hey hark idk if you'll see this but I really like the editing this time, previously I always thought your edits were really funny but a little too fast and now I feel you've really hit a good balance with a little breather room in-between jokes, excellent edit ! :D

the Drama Alert bit had the perfect editing on it, Nathan was funny as fuck

Seeing Simpleflips vibing with The Neverhood soundtrack makes me really want to see him play the game, or at least watch the cutscenes.
Sound Effects Record #42 got me bumpin n divin n jivin n stompin KOOPAS
I'd release instantly seeing simple play the neverhood. Sort of also its sequel, skullmonkeys. Both are great but skullmonkeys is such a different game. I think neverhood might be a but harder to play as skullmonkeys would simply be a ps1 emulator id assume but I'm sure it's not that bad to figure out
with seeing how big the kirby modding scene is getting i hope someone mods like return to dreamland dx using the kirby voice acting video to replace the sounds
Fun Fact that no one cares about: The All Stars version of SMW actually has a unique sprite for Luigi, while the original release only had a recolored Mario sprite.
Legit the reason I'm mad Nintendo doesn't rerelease the All-Stars version of World more, that Luigi sprite has so much added personality.
Whoever donated the Neverhood OST is amazing
Seeing Bandy-cam in the corner reminds me alot of the FLUDD intro cutscene from Sunshine.
This was my first SMB1 game, I used to love playing this thing
Same and I even thought this was the best version of SMB1 until I learned about emulators.
I like how the edits involving Nathan are always confined to his little spot in the bottom left corner.
I fucking adore Hark’s Chris Pratt edits.
Like, the photo Pratt-ba was fucking immaculate. 14:14 was pretty great, too.
Edit: Unrelatedly, 24:00 is a subtle- but fucking amazing- troll by Simple.
Edit #2: Also unrelated, but 26:43 was fucking sick, honestly.
They’re gonna be looking for a long time (they can’t see)
They're not gonna be looking (they can't see shit)
Mario except his weight and nearsightedness are taken into account
they're gonna be looking for guys who can't see
This was MY Super Mario Bros. growing up, and one of my most played gameboy games alongside Pokemon Yellow and Game & Watch Galley 2. I really loved all the little extra stuff they put in this version, like the boo races.
these videos are so hype because I get to experience in real time the pain of screen crunch frame 1 goombas and altered physics in a game that by all accounts is indicating it is smb1
I remember Super Mario Bros being an unreasonably difficult game from growing up. I always chalked it up to how older games tend to be more punishing. But as of today, I realize it's because the GB Color version was the only one I ever played.

They rlly don’t make games like they used to. They used to just put random shit in for no reason, imagine if the elden ring main menu had a little ‘extra games!’ Section where you can have melania tell you your future or play a random pet sim featuring torrent then record your day in the built-in calendar and diary
This is my biannual "as an English major..." comment on a Simpleflips video.
At around 11 minutes in you said you weren't sure if you were going to go to in-person English classes - I also remember many years ago you mentioning in some other vid/stream you'd once considered being an English major, but had no idea what you could do with it. Whether or not you're still thinking about it, just know it's a major that may seem limited on its own from an outside perspective, but it pairs well with so many job fields due to all the communication, analytical and critical think skills you strengthen, alongside core values you develop. You absolutely don't have to major in it, but it may be worth it to go to in person classes in future semesters.
Depending on the size of your college - if it's like ~30 person or fewer classrooms, you absolutely should attend English courses in person. Online classes with discussion boards chug nuts for the fine arts. It's just everyone pretending to be interested while softly kissing one another's rear end cheeks with "Wow! Good point! I never thought of (repeating what you just said), but now that you say it, I see where you're coming from" or making "but have you considered (contrarian point of view to fake engagement)?" posts a few times a week. Online classes are the kind of English classes that actively kills people's interest in the subject.
Despite college breaking me spiritually and exacerbating the symptoms of my mental health and disabilities, and being the biggest introvert I know, I don't regret majoring in English and showing up to all of the English classes I had every semester. There's so many connections to be made - both with your classmates and just the literature itself, and participating in in-person classes for English with the right professors and groups of students can help you develop much more valuable communication skills than online classes ever could. That level of communication then fuels your analytical and critical thinking skills, as well, as you're forced to consider altering viewpoints and thoughts on what you're reading. I probably learned just as much about my classmates and myself as a person, as I had learned the subject matter. Even the entry-level courses pushed me to be better and elevated me into opportunities I'd never thought possible.
This was all before covid, but over the course of just one year at University, my college flew me out to 3 different states in the central and northeast paying room and board each time, to read at 3 separate events after a few of my professors encouraged me to submit my writing to a few different arts journals and festivals, alongside a few on-campus events I read at. I straight up lived out my childhood dreams of speaking on a stage and having my words resonate with others thanks to taking a few different English classes.
Looking back on it all, I need to force myself out of hiding and back into writing to read publicly - starting over fresh after how much was put on hold during the pandemic, since my last public reading was just weeks before the pandemic, and I withdrew from the circles I once had to focus on getting through to the end.
That concludes my "as an English major" comment, thank you all for reading it, again. Shoutouts to Simpleflips. And if you haven't already... like and subscribe to him? And brush your teeth? LOL?
This was recorded in November, all of my classes are in person
@@SimpleFlips oh hell yeah 😎
I knew there was some sort of time between this race and now, but I hope you have a great time in college. Like you said, knowing things will suck and be tough until it's over gets you through it, but it can also be whatever you make of it
Back in the days of the 3ds eshop this game was actually offered for free if you had a Nintendo network account I think. The screen crunch is super weird and off-putting but you get used to it pretty quick. Also I think the extra content they added in (boo races, challenge mode, lost levels) more than makes up for the screen crunch issue.
that deaf son beatbox bit is killer
I keep thinking the editor zoomed in to show off some gamer shit but then I remember the game is nearsighted
The way the screen is crunchma'd is really something
Big fan of how Simple defends everyone's music choices. That's my goat fr
The death loop simple was in in 5-1 had to be one of the most self-negating endeavors ever undertaken by a human being. Thanks Dad.
Even as a child I thought the calendar was really silly. Who did they expect would be using their gameboy color as a calendar hundreds of years in the future?
haha. 😶
the screen crunch is actually better on original hardware. it feels way more natural
This is how I played both the original mario bros and lost levels for the first time. I remember seeing lost levels (under that name specifically) and going "damn that looks a lot like 1-1 of the mario delux super levels"
I recently played this on the 3DS, aside from the horrendous screen crunch, the extras are so much fun, red coins, yoshi, score challenge, its all great!
Hark is sneaky asf choosing that clip of keemstar at 19:51
12:39 he didn't have to do it, and that's why we love him
I remember sitting in our van playing this game while my sister was at one of her softball games.
This game created the off on blocks and the key coins from smm2
14:30 It’s so subtle but it’s so funny
24:12 I love this accidental conversation they had.
Simple: Chat, did you guys know that the Fortnite Battle Pass guy was on American Idol?
Nathan: Dude, what the he-
Simple: *reading chat* Did he win? They seemed impressed from what I remember.
Nathan: That seems... almost impossible.
24:42
Simple: *shows video* Look at this guy.
Nathan: Dude, what the fuck?
*Video starts playing*
Nathan: What the hell is this? This is so dumb!
Deluxe is genuinely a super cool version of SMB, but it's unfortunately plagued by the s c r u n c h i e s . The screen crunch really does leave the playability bleeding out on the floor to breathe its last.
35:30 the art style light Trax soundtrack genuinely slaps

happy 2024 simple, glad you're here. You look great bro.
Such a fun nostalgia moment to see this game again. I used to play this alot as a kid. Honestly it could just be because I got used to it, I'm not sure i can recall a moment where the screen crunch was a huge issue.
kosmic would have an aneurysm playing this
Ah yes a true Classic. This was the first time I played the original. Now I didn’t had an actual Gameboy but my dad had an emulator on his phone so I played that instead. But here’s the thing: the bottom right of his phone had a lot of dead pixels so imagine playing this game with the insane screen scrunch AND without seeing most of the top right of the game
By the rules Nathan put into place that disqualified Yoshi's Island, does that mean they will be playing Hotel Mario? Mario's Time Machine? Mario Teaches Typing?
Reminds me of Sonic the Hedgehog on the GameGear. With Sonic's speed and the zoom, it was nearly impossible to tell what was in front of you.
I noticed that the timer counts down super fast as well. Makes me think that they just copied the code from the nes game without adjusting for a faster clock speed.
loving the bimplenips content
this being damph's first mario game explains so much
I also played this as a kid and finished basically the entire thing plus the multiplayer boo race mode
I'm begging someone involved in this operation to edit/recreate the old bandicam watermark to say bandycam and put it over the bandy cam

they call it "lost levels" cause you keep losing them.
they call it "no wind" because you didn't win

How is that pic of Mario with the glasses not a meme format?

The Chris Pratt in the bottom left. That’s when i got a hunch that Hark did this one.
the boo race levels in this game had me extremely stressed out as a kid
Chris Pratt getting the lead role in the Minecraft movie and in the press release he’ll go “I’d wander out each night, killin’… *creepas!”*
Hark going sicko mode with these edits
I can't believe how scripted this is, Hulk Hogan LITERALLY predicted the calendar function in the game with his song
I know this a 40 minute video of him racing someone, but I was really hoping he would run into the first goomba for 40 minutes
This is the video game equivalent of cropped Family Guy videos on TikTok.
watching this unlocked one of my memories where i played the FLASH version of this game.
I grew up with the Mario bros deluxe on gameboy colour. I still have that old system and cartridge. So many hours put into it
This is how I played smb1 as a kid
I’m actually astonished that he was able to play those games that zoomed up
It's a miracle any game was functional on the gameboy.
