    I just copied your cell design using a carbon tube from one of my old tube cells. The slurry goes down the centre of the carbon tube. I’ll post in about a week. I think you have came up with a really good design well done. 😊

    Interesting that the battery worked better the second time around. Wonder if the zinc oxide particles are helping to improve electrical contact between zinc metal particles and current collector, it is a semiconductor, after all? Maybe this type of cell will benefit from mixing in some carbon black or graphite powder with zinc powder to improve power?

      Yes, you need to have some conductive material mixst in in the first place. I for example use CB in range from 2 to 5%/wt.

      I wonder if the oxide migrated and formed on top of the screen as it was consumed. Zinc oxide forms a passive layer but not as bad as aluminum and may be, as you suggest, a kind of semiconductor? And who's to say the ZnO with its oxygen content doesn't assist in the redox reaction?

    I find it interesting that the cathode is sealed and on the bottom and not open to air. But it is the zinc anode that reacts to air and creates power, isn't it? So the zinc on top reacts with oxygen and the cathode does its job without so much exposure to air. (Co2 is death to air batteries as I understand it)

    1:38 how would I use the activated carbon powder as the substitute for the activated carbon felt? I can't seem to find activated carbon felt that is easily accessible even through online shop.

    Zinc is soluble.
    I use salt, iron and graphene.
    This is the best solution.

    Is it possible to use zinc air flow batteries in EV's?

    • @cayrex

      Yes. I point that out years ago.

      @@cayrex I know nothing about chemistry, but I like experiments. Can we make rechargeable zinc air battery? Do this battery generate much energy to start a normal patrol car? I want to do an experiment, if you help

      Deutschepost ran a program in 1995 with Mercedes vans running zinc air batteries. They were not flow batteries. They were cartridges of some sort and probably very similar to what Cayrex made here with cathode (+) on bottom and zinc (-) on top for ease of reloading. Thanks

      @@evanriddle1614 Wow thank you! Good to know about the Deutsche post program. I looking to the papers right now, really interesting. Making the system that can be refilled similar to petrol car by swapping the anode material will have its advantages.

      try silver-zinc battery for EV, it is the highest capacity battery available on the market (so you will drive longer distance), it was is used in all space missions, it is easily recycled, and it will give high torque until it fully discharged so you will not notice the diminishing energy.

    same dendrite issues here ?????

    • @cayrex
      @cayrex  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. Because you rechatge the cell mechanically

    • @evanriddle1614
      @evanriddle1614 ปีที่แล้ว

      The zinc slurry is in fact the dendrites, just used differently?
