    I really like my Elantra Hybrid Ultimate. I am concerned about the DCT/powertrain, I had a discouraging incident where it stalled and did not accelerate after coming to a stop and did this again a short time later/ was revving and lurching somewhat with foot off the gas or braking. It has behaved well enough ever since (after turning off and on) but this was at 5700 km and other people are having similar issues. Dealer wasn't able to replicate it and without engine codes they are paralyzed. Hopefully it will get fixed either with software update, recall or warranty work (if Hyundai actually codes engine failures/ transmission failures, perhaps it is a "feature" in their eyes).

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hm, yeah keep an eye on it for sure.
      The powertrain was originally from the Hyundai Ioniq, and in that vehicle it's been very very reliable. Let's hope it was just a glitch

      @@AdmiralCecil I’m aware of the “chip shortage”. But to debunk this term there’s no “chip shortage” it’s just the companies that are making these chips are favoring more profitable industries.
      But about ADM (additional dealer markup) if your 1/2 aware of how to negotiate you’ll understand that specifically at this point in time, if a car is sold for about 1-2% above MSRP that’s considered a great deal so as long as people don’t get desperate it’s not big deal.

    Ed, at 9:01 you suggest selecting user settings by using the large upper inboard button on the RH side of the steering wheel. My 2023 Elantra Luxury Hybrid doesn't seem to have this function. I just have 3 items: the car going down the road, the compass, and the 'select item' thingie which allows me to choose which items are displayed when I scroll through them. I can access all setup items on the RH screen by going into Setup, but there doesn't seem to be any way to display user settings on the center screen. This is a mild hybrid is it? Wouldn't need a mechanical multi speed gearbox otherwise, right?

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No this is a full hybrid, not a mild hybrid.
      It has a 6 speed dual clutch transmission. It's capable of shutting the gas engine off and continuing to propel the vehicle using it's electric motor even at speeds over 100kph. Albeit for short stints.
      It has a 32kw electric traction motor sandwiched between the gas engine and the transmission, and a 1.3kwh battery.
      It also has a motor/generator in place of the alternator.

      @GbMuthu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is the combined torque output of its electric motors?
      Thanks.

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GbMuthu Well that's obvious, because otherwise at 110kph the gas engine would be running at 12000rpm and at 10kph it would be spinning at 100rpm. You still need gears for the gas engine. Unless you have an electric motor that does ALL the driving and the gas engine is just generator (like the old BMW i3). But that's just not feasible in a vehicle this size.
      But the reason a mechanical gearbox vs a CVT works in this case, is that in-between gears, where a traditional gearbox falls short on economy, the electric motor can keep the car moving. In effect, filling the momentary gaps of power while the transmission is changing gears (less of an issue with a dual clutch mind you)
      Considering this car gets better then 4.5L/100km (most fuel efficient car in Canada) I'd say that they did a good job.

    What's with manufacturers using all this glossy/piano black plastic now in the dash/cluster areas? The Golf R is plastered with it? It gets dirty fast. Glares. Scratches. I hate it. Yes it looks good when new. That's where it ends.

    Whats Hyundia’s warranty on the hybrid battery ?

    • @edsgarage001
      @edsgarage001  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In Canada, 8 years/160,000km.
      In America, it's a lifetime warranty.
      Don't worry about the battery, it'll outlive the car.
      These batteries are lithium ion polymer packet cells. Very easy to warm and cool. Plus the vehicle only ever uses between the 20 and 80 percent mark of the battery, which is its sweet spot.
      Hyundai has never had issues with their batteries in any hybrid going back about a decade.
