    Funny fact about Forbidden Memories star sign system. The star sign chart goes in order of the planet in the solar system, which might seem wrong to some people because Pluto (in addition to now not being classified as a planet) comes before Neptune in that game. However, this is actually accurate for the time, as when the game was produced, Pluto's oddly shaped orbit meant it was actually closer to the sun then Neptune. This is of course no longer true and won't be true gain for another 200 years

    To correct Law, there were two storylines in DM where the cast is trapped in a virtual world. Why they decided they needed two acts about that I have no idea.

    • @jaernihiltheus7817
      @jaernihiltheus7817 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      The first one was like 3 episodes & was for fun, the reason for it is because the manga never really answered the question of what happened to the board members that betrayed kaiba.
      The big one - the noah arc - is because the manga was still doing the battle city finals while the anime was producing season 2, so they needed to stall for a bit and as a result, they decided to do a part 2 to the original filler episode.

    • @leakypeach6250
      @leakypeach6250 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@jaernihiltheus7817Tbf, I don't think that needed much of an explanation (especially one where the board members that Kaiba knows betrayed him somehow trick him into trapping himself in a virtual world).

      @jaernihiltheus7817 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@leakypeach6250 it didn't need it, but it was a dangling thread for them to spin into a filler arc and they reeeeaaaally needed filler content.
      Same goes for the rebecca episode

    • @Mike_Ka-Chowski
      @Mike_Ka-Chowski ปีที่แล้ว +6

      They're both fillers. They do have the connecting thread of the Big 5 being antagonists in both arcs. Both also weirdly were meant to stall for time for the Battle City arc. The Five-Headed dragon arc was a segway before Battle City started and the Noah arc was a longer segway until the Battle City arc concluded.

    • @thecabbageman1
      @thecabbageman1 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      There is a reason why those arcs were needed, beyond the usual reasons anime studios make filler. And it was to supplement for the cut of the Death T arc of the manga, that really delved into Kaiba's backstory and motivations.
      Because that context was important for the conclusion of his arc in the end of battle city, they needed some way to incorporate those important elements from those stories. And thus, the Noah arc was born. The previous virtual world arc, was just a cool small adventure to set it up.

      Falsebound Kingdom had some really interesting ideas, but it DESPERATELY needed more time in the oven or a sequel to really be something special.
      As is, there's a lot of cool, but kinda pointless or poorly explained mechanics, monster balance and kinda availability is really weird, stages never really had enough scripting or objectives besides conga line defense, and all the late game teams being copy-paste instead of having the small amount of care and flair the earlier ones did all do bring the experience down in a tragic way.
      Falsebound Kingdom has great bones, just the execution was anemic. Every day, I hope someone out there makes the spiritual sequel it deserves, with lessons learned.

    Falsebound Kingdom is... a mixed bag. I really enjoyed it as a kid and played through all the campaigns multiple times, but nowadays, as an adult with limited time, I think the best recommendation I can give is to play it on an emulator. The game is a lot of fun even today, but the "bad part" is the travel time of units. It takes some minutes for your unit/marshall to move from point A to B. Once they encounter an opponent or a city, stuff gets triggered. This is a useless timewaste, but thanks to emulation, you can crank the speed up once you've input what your units should do and then the game becomes like 5 times more enjoyable. I really wish it would get a more fleshed out sequel

    Falsebound Kingdom's mechanics are more complex that most people give them credit for. The problems are that they're not balanced at all, and like with the previous games, the game itself never explains how they actually work. I remember being so lost when I was a kid because I had no idea what to do, or what was going on. Now that I'm adult, have actually looked things up, and can actually understand what the characters, and story are really telling me, things make a lot more sense, and as such I'm able to appreciate the game more.
    Personally, I love Falsebound Kingdom, and have beaten it several times. I wish they would port it along with the other DM games of that era.

      @aprinnyonbreak1290 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah
      Falsebound Kingdom has a ton of interesting mechanics and details, but the problem is that the game rarely brings attention to any of them, and the game really isn't taxing enough to make you need to learn them.
      It REALLY needed a sequel, or at least a bit more dev time to develop a lot of these ideas into more coherent and realized scenarios, and make the game more comprehensive; the base mechanics were absolutely there, it's just the execution of their potential that fell a bit flat.
      It feels tragically like it was en route to be something great, but then got panic wrapped up and pushed out the door before that could be realized.

    • @Iceclaw77
      @Iceclaw77 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@aprinnyonbreak1290 It really does feel unfinished.
      From Dragons being the worst type simply because they have no good equips to the game's difficulty not scaling properly during certain levels on new game+ mode to the plot just being kinda weird (especially towards the end), it genuinely seems like it was rushed out and like a lot of content was either cut or changed at the last minute.
      It really did need a sequel and tbh I'm kinda surprised it didn't get one because one with GX and 5Ds characters seems like something that Konami definitely would've made back then.

    You missed a few things when you went over the real life dungeon dice monsters. The US release of the starter set had 6 monsters and their respective cards in them. I assume that's what you meant when you said "6 dice" so I'm pretty sure you misspoke. You only need 10 monsters/items to play the advanced game, not 12 or 15. As such, both players needed to have the starter set as well as purchase at minimum 4 boosters(each one contained a single monster/item and you could not play duplicates). The other thing is that the starter set retailed for roughly $30-35 US, not $40 outside of any kind of starter/booster pack combos.
    As for the japanese release, the starter set was extremely different. First off, you got 10 monsters and 15 dice. Those dice functioned as both board pieces and the dice you roll, while in the international release the dice/board pieces were standardized to be regular dice and the pieces were made of cardstock. There was some other differences, such as the initial run of the OCG starter getting tokens to represent their crests and later versions getting an abacus, while the international release got 2 abacus for the simple 2 player mode.
    Finally(and I'm not 100% sure on this) the OCG starter set released with a far higher MSRP due to both including more figures and also 15 non-standard game pieces in the form of the foldable dice. There was some other rules added into the international release to "fix" some of the issues japanese players had, such as double dice, triple summoning, and the no duplicates rule. The japanese dice were also quite big for smaller hands, which probably contributed to the splitting of the dice from the game pieces that happened in the international release, along with presumably cheaper manufacturing costs.

      I never had the DDM game in any version, but I did a bunch of obsessive research into the various versions at one point. In the Japanese version, there are only exactly 2 possible configurations for the unfolded dice, and you are forced to use one of the die you rolled, drastically limiting strategic play, with the international version having more configurations possible. IIRC in the Japanese starter set all of the included dice unfolded into a "lower case t" shape, meaning you had exactly one option without spending more money. The international version specifically limits what choices you can make for "unfolding" dice to the number of pieces included in the starter set, and by using one you would "use up" your opponent's piece since it was printed on the reverse. As I recall, the rules make clear this using up is to some degree intended. You aren't supposed to, for instance, make more if you run out or anything like that. The GBA version includes by far the most options for unfolding dice, but even it does not include all possible theoretical ways of unfolding a 6 sided dice for some reason. Still, the GBA version is probably closest to what I would consider the "ideal" DDM rules.
      Oh and pointless extra trivia: in the anime (the english dub version at least) Duke Devlin uses at least 16 different dice (by counting every dice that appears as new only if it couldn't have possibly been a previously shown die) throughout the match even though he clearly says at the beginning they should only have 15 in their dice pool, all while spending the entire match accusing Yugi of being a cheater.

    You probably already knew this but isis is a god in ancient egyptian mythology. I'm not offended, i'm certain nobody is offended but just as advice if a religious extremist group takes the name of say, a hindu god or something i would be careful. Your comment was completely harmless but you know how people are these days. Insinuating the name of somebody's god is sullied or unfit for use just because some bad people are also using it might set them off. I think isis is still a perfectly good name.
    Duelist of the roses was my shit. It was super easy too because i always used to look up the codes to get broken cards like mirror wall.
    Capsule colosseum was amazing too. Strangely from my own research it seems like the american version was the main original version as the japanese version has no voice acting (while the american one does suggesting they simply removed it) and the monsters like harpie lady are their censored TCG art versions even in japanese.
    I also enjoyed dungeon dice monsters the gba game.
    Aside from the tag force games which are my favorite yugioh games ever these weird non-yugioh games are my fave yugioh games.
    One i loved that wasn't mentioned in the video because its almost a traditional yugioh game was the sacred cards. It was like nightmare troubadour which i think is the more well known one but as a kid i never beat that due to how hard it was. I should emulate it now and see if it was just because i sucked. But the sacred cards was much easier and i beat that numerous times.

    Konami does one thing right when it comes to Yugioh, and that's making story arcs within the cards themselves. I know that Master Duel went into a bit more detail with these but I want to see a non yugioh yugioh game specifically about these stories. Like the Duel Terminal storyline, World Legacy, Tri-brigade, etc. They made this huge world with all these archetypes and I just want a game, maybe an Action RPG or Tactical RPG, following these storylines more in depth.

    I remember that about a year after the Dungeon Dice Monsters board game was released, I ended up picking up enough pieces and starter kits to actually try to play it. Got all that stuff at the (wait for it!) ... 99C store! Sad, true. After trying a couple rounds we just went back to TCG and put the cool monster collection up on a shelf.
    I also have to admit to owning the GBA Duel Pack (just cartridge out of bargain bin, so no manual). I wanted to like them both so much, and just couldn't. I did try though.

    I think that Duelists of the Roses borrows less from DDM and more from Monster Collection (MonCole). Takahashi borrowed a LOT of elements from that game in the Duelist Kingdom arc and it's one of Japan's first commercially released TCGs alongside Pokémon.
    On another note, I don't ever remember the DDM starter set going for that much (unless you're adjusting for inflation). I remember it retailing between 20 and 30 dollars and each booster (containing one card and figure) being the same price as a pack of cards (between 4 and 5 dollars). The reason I theorize the the game failed had less to do with the price and more to do with HOW it was retailed. Most times, it was stocked along side the yugioh action figures INSTEAD of alongside the cards which made the boosters VERY easy to steal from. Most times I'd see them in stores, the boxes were ripped open or half destroyed.

    Ok but I have a very clear memory of playing Duelist of the Roses having a full deck of literally nothing except 20 Blue Eyes White dragons and a deck cost of absolutely 0. Any blue eyes removed and re-added, would then increase my deck cost, as would any other different cards added. I remember while it would make 90% of duels tedious, some were absolutely hell like the heavy crush card arenas. Eventually when my memory card corrupted over the years I lost it and could never figure out what caused it or if anyone else had this happen to them and figured out why or how this happens just because it has been something buffing me literally decades. If anyone has any similar stories or explanations I would love to hear it

    Falsebound kingdom was a bit slower for sure, but still fun. It only becomes fun however once you have a decent group of monsters, and they're high enough level to actually use all their abilities/bonuses. Also you have to find hidden monsters if you want to use them, like finding Dark Magician, and using him to find DM girl, so you can use them in tandem for a devastating attack. Also you kind of had to piece together how to make certain monster s via fusion, or using black luster ritual to change DM into Magician of black chaos, or gaia into BLS. Also knowing to put multiply/insect armor onto kuriboh/basic insect so they can be useful.
