My guy is pumping these out like the world is gonna end
And I'll take it
it is gonna end if we dont get them
Here before Joshua Schmidt.
Woah honestly surprised you didnt hild this till next year. You are speeding through these!
December is the best month for ad revenue
It’s a big series for him that gets views
Follow you since the Duel Links era recaps, you are one of the best yugitubers out there, keep up the good work!!!
My era of competitiveness. As a wind-up player without tour guides at the time i just loved this format. So much fun and actual back and forth. Great times ❤
I miss wind-ups so much I won a win a mat tournament with wind-ups after the hand loop was gone but I abused the shock lock
i used to run six spams and fusion gate heroes! what a fun format to play in
My group of friends are playing on September 2012 meta and is so much fun, such a variety of decks and strategys
This video just refuels our passion for that year's meta
Nice work here mate!
These are gems. Just had some time to finish watching the 2011 recap
This is the format I was playing at locals the most. If there was an era I want to have an Edison style renaissance, it would be this one.
That Zombie Monarch deck out of Providence was so so sweet. Nareg Torossian came out of retirement and topped his first YCS back with boomer cards.
Always really liked the Psychic cards so had to give Grandsoil a go. And Magiliene Psychics after that.
Still play Ninjas, Gishkis, and Madolche to this day.
Babe new Yugioh recap is out!
This was my first year of competitive play. I have fond memories of it even if long stretches of it were ass.
Honestly so excited for the next episode. The antlantean structure deck, and abyss rising were the first products i purchased starting my yugioh journey.
as a chaos dragon lover i see this video as an absolute win.
My favourite deck of all time.
I think a slight oversight in the banlist when talking about Hieratic, if I remember right Hieratic was much better in the OCG because they got Gustav Max long before the TCG allowing the deck to otk much easier. And the banlists were still merged at the time so there was normally some hits that were more relevant to the OCG than the TCG. Hence, Hieratic seal getting hit and REDMD going to 1.
I can’t believe 2012 was as long ago as it was. I miss those days so much.
I think Grandsoil Psychics did well bc all of Jeff's opponents had to read the cards, making the match longer, and using some Psychic stuff to gain LP in time
i am not sure, but i dont think time rules worked like this back in the day?
@@Zssprimetime rules at this point were 3 extra turns when time is called, and current turn player is treated as turn 0
@@Zssprime Jeff Jones said that's how it worked on his podcast iirc
@@Zssprimeonly things that changed is that its end of phase now, it used to be end of turn
Ah spellbooks, my favoritue deck (along with Orcust and 2003 Chaos). Can't wait for the 2013 video and see it perform. Great job dude😊
This was the one year I actually played Yugioh, so I’ve been looking forward to this for a while. So nostalgic for me, thanks for pushing out great content!
These Videos are incredible. Hope to see one for every year!!!
I and always will be a chaos dragon player, it was when i started playing in high school, we use to run tournaments in the cafeteria during eoc's, it was rad.
This year was my year i was dominating everwhere with inzektor otk
September 2012 was such a great format.
Indeed, the big 3 got the necessary hits, but they were still playable, and we were getting new archtypes like Geargia and Mermail so it felt like a pretty open format
11:19 I remember hearing about the six sans deck winning out the event, but max C had to be run on at 3 against that Bermuda Triangle of meta decks
So good. Thx for the recap. Only kind of kept of at this point in the game

Shock master: You wa Shock
Another fantastic video, i think these are the youtube videos i look forward to the most. Thank you the law ygo
love how inzektors couldnt win a ycs at full power but had to wait until they were hit on a banlist and 2 core sets came out
This was the first format I started playing competitively in. While Wind-Up was obnoxious with the hand loop I still loved and miss this format. Chaos Dragon was my deck since it was such a budget way to enter into competitive play. Legendary Collection 2 and RYMP were amazing reprint sets...then those Hanzo tins came out and oooooh man being able to get Maxx C and Tour Guide was thee best
Shock Master was so good yet so bad. A ton of rogue rank 4 strategies like hunder loved it and then died overnight once it got banned
When you just subbed after watching the 5ds video a hour ago lol
Battle Pack Epic Dawn might not have made a huge mark in the then current meta but GOAT and Edison players bless this set because of the easy reprints it provided. Same for Ra Mega Pack Yellow.
Subscribing for this man’s hustle alone! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Super excited for this one.
Nats 2012 format is criminally underrated, genuinely some of the best yugioh and an incredibly important time in the game's history
God I love watching these, incredible work!
You're crushing it dude!
Another hour of golden content. Liked, subbed, commented for algo
Why is this video not in the playlist pf yearly recaps? It goes from 2005 to 2011, skips 2012, and continues woth 2013
This here, this is where we see the "TCG" become the TCG, shame about maxx "C" and priority for a while still in Zexal.
21:10 the game is now playable, shame about the "C".
very cool era, extremely impactful TCG promos that definitely didn't cause problems come importing them to the ocg.
Another one! Love the videos bro!!!
At this rate the 2024 recap is gonna happen before 2024
unless my historical memory is incorrect.
Gishki would use Gustav Max as a going second finisher since double Zielgigas +Gustav Max was 8400
Dragons collide is literally the beginning of dragon link imo
You forgot about the Seal of Orichalcos: if you lose the duel, you lose your soul…!
Can't wait till 2016
modern players will have no idea how hyped the hanzo tin was. omg.
when I came back to the game good times man
2012 was... Well, it was a year, and man was that March banlist one of the worst things for its time
I loved it lol
Loved that year. My first year in competitive yugioh. It was so nice. Still regret that I chose the Dark World structure deck instead the Chaos Dragon one haha My friends told me to buy Dark Worlds (it is better bro hahah)
i was playing and going to middle school at the time, something i still remember about this time of yu-gi-ho is, wow shock master is sooo strong , and holly crap! big aye is expensive
and come to think, brink has line with wind ups and geargias, but they never were meta there.
49:46 right. the dissapointing seal of orichalcos.... wait, it was actually succesful in malefics?
With Macro Rabbit I had a 99% Win Rate on Dueling Book. Deck was tooo strong back then lmao
At 16:00, is the Piper Chaos deck playing no extra? Or is that just missing from the data?
Is it time to another retro format
2012 long beach seams funs
Yessss yesss yessss
I love this year
18:19 Anyone know the song used at this timestamp? I quite like it, and tried searching it to no avail the last time I heard it.

LETS GOOOOOOOO
Ah yes! The year that almost killed Yugioh! To go into much more in depth on what other comments have said. Zexal was not doing well in its first 12 months for both the anime and its sets.
Anime-wise: Zexal was disliked from day 1 with its sudden tone shift from 5D's darker, more mature and hype story to a more kid-friendly version of DM. People find Yuma a very annoying and unlikeable protagonist who unlike Yugi, Jaden, and Yusei was not a very good duelist at all and would take it out on Astral when he misplayed badly and ignored his tips during the duels. To fuel this fire, the first 26 episodes of Zexal were almost all Yuma duels with a good lot of them (even the filler duels) being 2 episodes long. It was made worse by the fact they were pretty much the same formula, part 1 being Yuma would ignore Alstral's wisdom and duel recklessly falling into the opponent's trap, then part 2 being Yuma finally listing to Astral and playing out of the trap he got himself into.
Cardgame-wise: XYZ was seen as a step down from synchro by more competitive players due the how simple and boring they felt it was (again, the simple gameplay was likey a push to be more beginner-friendly). On top of most of them being underpowered and having basic effects, fans of the Zexal character's anime decks were also doomed as their effects were even worse than some of GX's era worst sets cards.
Then came the March 2012 ban list which rather than getting rid of Inzecktor and Wind-Up's loops ( Who wouldn't have survived past a week under normal times) didn't get hit and Konami used it to make a statement saying stop playing Synchros and buy the Zexal era meta decks if you want to win. This out-of-touch ban list was so shocking, that a famous OCG site (Who would leak the list and be spot on every time 2 weeks before it was announced for years) posted a more logical list saying this was the real deal and the awful March 2012 list was fake much to the joy of people. Sadly the joy wouldn't last as another legit source that would post the banlist a few days before it got shown rather than two weeks, said the shocking March 2012 list was indeed the real deal and put their whole creditable on the line that it was real. Sadly they were right which not only ruined people's faith in Konami but also killed the faith people had for the OCG site as well.
And lastly, while all this chaos was going on, Akira Ito (who worked on Yugioh R with the late Kazuki Takahashi) took this perfect chance to team up with Bushiroad to put out his own cardgame creation Cardfight Vanguard which took the card game market by storm in 2011-2012 with its breath of fresh air gameplay and more realist and grounded anime.
Given what happened in 2012 on top of Dragon Rulers later on, it's a miracle Yugioh didn't die during the Zexal era. I can't help but think if Zexal didn't improve both anime and set-wise and Vanguard didn't shit the bed during the first half of Arc-V, we could be looking at a very different timeline today.

AKA the year that legit almost killed the game. 2018 with it's endless Gouki/Firewall/FTK may be the actual lowest point that Yu-Gi-Oh! had seen to this point but by this point the playerbase was so large it didn't matter. Early 2012 however was not this. An awful format combined with a high price of entry and a (at the time) exciting alternative card game coming up the works in Cardfight!! Vanguard did ALOT of damage to YGO's reputation that led to alot of people quitting and never coming back. It was *rough* to be a YGO player at this time.
Also that March Banlist is still regarded as one of the worst ever. This was back in the time when OCG/TCG shared banlists but OCG got theirs first so for them to hit Reborn Tengu, a TCG exclusive that they wouldn't get for MONTHS was insane and also one of the most blatant displays of "the banlist isn't for balance but to sell product" that Konami ever made. This was the year that alot of the players that came into YGO during 2009-2011 started to become jaded and saw the game for what it really was too.
Ironically i loved 2012 for this reason😅 i loved all the degenerate decks
@@kingvegeta7868 not same. To this day I hate Inzektor with a burning passion. ***k Hornet and Dragonfly.
Hard agree. The meta during this year was absolute hell. Dragon Ruler format the following year was arguably even worse.
I was become vg player lol, i didnt noticed lot of ygo player feel the same back then.
Hi Joshua
Lmao what the fuck were they thinking with the Six Samurai Structure Deck? No Shi-En Synchro? God Awful Xyz? Like were they that afraid of Six Sam?
Like and committing!
why is there league of legends music
U don’t need to say and read every card in every set. It just fluffs out the length of the video, without adding much. A quick overview of the set is more than enough. The main information should be events and meta.
i edge to your videos
Exceed?
>"ZenMIGHTY"
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Oh GOD not number 16 shock ruler!!! (original name)
Whoever created that.... we need to talk!!!
Ninjitsu art of super transformation wasn't released in 2012, its a vrains era cards, with that power ninjas might have been able to compete a bit.
How can you be so confident yet so wrong?
Literally incorrect, please double check your facts
I’m just here enjoying the ride before Pendulums come along and ruin the game
2012 was one of the worst meta ever 😞
Inzektor Hornet is still my least favourite card ever
Comment 4 algorithm
This is arguably the worst year for Yugioh until 2018
Where is this years recap?
Is this year over yet? No? Cool
I remember back in the day you would hear a lot of talk about mermails and how fucking terrifying they would be. Man, those were interesting times.
17:10 bro I can’t believe it’s been 11 years since SJ Magazine stopped being physical in the west. Feels like it only happened 5 years ago
