Henning can you elaborate more on why Gibson is a bully? Maybe do an episode on it, a bit more back ground information. Thanks Henning I appreciate everything you do.

I have one of these that I bought last year. Somehow I picked mine up for 850€ from some grey market dealer. The build quality is amazing. The guitar just feels great. I got rid of a Gibson semi hollow for this and don't regret it one bit.
I was however disappointed Sound-wise initially, and with the quality of the electronics. This is a bluesy guitar, but I'm not into blues. That's a matter of taste, but I also found the pickups to lack definition and to be a bit dark. As such, I first tried swapping the bridge for an aluminium one from Faber. This brightened it up, but I was still unhappy with the pickups, even after adjusting heights and pole screws to find something suitable.
So I removed a pickup and saw that they had installed Artec Pickups, basically what goes in a standard epiphone model. I also popped a dentist's mirror in the F hole and found mini alpha pots.
I ended up adding some customised Seymour Duncan SH 1s that I got used and a mojo tone wiring harness. Now it's more suited to rock. Well defined, better for mid gain sounds.
In the end, what I saved on my great deal for the guitar I reinvested in making the guitar something that I truly like. Had I paid full price and then noticed the electronics, I would have been really disappointed.
So yeah, buyer beware, the electronics are subpar for this price point, but the guitar itself is top class. Eastman beats Stanford though in my book and they have some semi hollows in this price range.

Thomann has them @ $1700AU. The Epiphone Dot/335 sells for at least $1200, the Gibson around $4500!!! CN Tokai around $500 or JP Tokai around $2K! Still worth it to buy here! (Current delivery charges pending! It WAS a flat $88 to AU for up to 35kg!)

Beautyful looking guitar. This orangy "violin brown" might be one of my favorite colors on guitars. But i think you explained one thing slightly wrong (maybe with this one its different) but when i hear "thinline" i think that means that the body is not as "deep" as the type of model usually would be (with this should mean its not as deep as a regular 335). At least this is what the common use of the word "thinline" seems to be.

Does it make your hands feel like they're coated in sawdust? I find any finish that isn't gloss runs the risk of feeling like that, and I'm not a huge fan. The only nitro I have had that feels good to me is the neck on my Sterling Stingray bass

    • @OliverAmberg

@@alecmullaney7957 Actually I prefer NC finishes. I don't like glossy finishes too much, since they become sticky when I sweat. Nitro finishes also age beautiful.

Actually my friend bought a 335 studio for about that price when it was new a few years ago. Too bad Gibson doesn't do the studio anymore, it's a great guitar, just a bit plainer looking than a regular 335. I ended up buying it from him and use it all the time.

  • @cathalwhelehan

looks really beautiful - I've had a Stanford F-style mandolin for about 10 or 11 years and it's just a fantastic instrument. One question though - when you showed us the nice figured back, did I see it correctly as it looked like the bookmatch join was nowhere near centred? I rewound that section a few times and I'm still unsure if it's off centre or just my eyes tricking me.

    • @DerEchteBold
      @DerEchteBold 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It really looks very offset but I'm pretty sure that's an optical illusion because of the curved body and the way he holds it up to the camera.
After he shows the back, when he has it face-down on it's lap for a second, it actually looks centred.

Looks cool. In this segment of the market, though, I cannot imagine a better deal than the actual Guild (Korea) hollows and semi-hollows. They are amazing, at any price. And they compete favorably with this one, with a likely better brand recognition. Gibson? They are an absurd deal, dead for me.

Again, how can I give you money with affiliate links, if it is out of stock in Thomann at the moment. The impulse buy might fade in 3 weeks :D
About the guitar, it is lovely, and that blues tone with the Dynamis made me put it in the wishlist.
One thing that I notice, is that only (that I know) chinese builders, Stanford here, and Eastman, are the ones that put violin varnish finish on the guitars. No idea how spec correct it might be, but it is really cool, more on a (semi)hollow body guitar.

What kind of point are you trying to make when you say that "half of your house would be empty w/o products from China"? How is stating what some people (justifiably) consider a disaster for their local economies, the environment and human rights making anything better? Is that resignation or just common ignorance when people buy products made in China even *when they have a choice for a change*?
In a different matter, I get what you're trying to say by "1/3 the price of a Gibson but just as good" but for most people who bought a Gibby in the past decades that would make bunch of red lights come on.
