I picture Link, weary from all the horrors he has faced in the field, numb from all the monsters and dark magic, tearing off the sword and all his items that have weighed him down, limping his way to take a rest at the fairy fountain. Close to death from mortal wounds and sheer exhaustion, he is filled filled with memories of the times before Gannon, and how good life is. As the fountain heals his wounds, he loses control of his emotions as he realizes how important his mission is and how failing could destroy the world. He slowly comes to grips that he’s in too deep, and he cannot give up, as he glances at the Master Sword sitting beside the fountain, he knows he must see this to the end.

I've been learning this piece for a few months and every time I think I've gotten pretty decent at it, I like to come back to this video to humble myself cuz this guy is FREAKING AMAZING
This gives me nostalgia for a game I’ve never played. Sometimes when I listen to a song from a game that came out a while ago it pains me, because I know I will never be able to have the same experience as the people who first got it. Zelda is a game series I wish I was interested enough to grow up with, but I was too stupid to pay attention to it
Just for Willow never too late to start. I’ve been playing Zelda for over 20 years and Botw is probably my favorite Zelda to date tbh and that’s only 3 years old. I never played Zelda growing up but my boyfriend convinced me to start playing breath of the wild on the switch a few months ago (I'm 26 btw). It is freaking MAGICAL and is hands down the best game I've ever played. I legit feel like a little kid when I play it. There are hundreds of hours worth of gameplay in that game. It really is never too late! I honestly cannot believe the game is only $50 because the amount of joy and entertainment it has provided me is worth sooo much more.
i first played zelda when i was 35, and not the recent ones either, the first one i played was Majora's Mask... and now, 5 years later (i'm turning 40 this year) this music is insanely nostalgic for me and is my favorite music of all time... as long as your heart still beats... it's never too late to start something new and be swept away by the magic of it...
Breath of the wild was my first Zelda game, and I can say without a doubt that you will still have an amazing experience with it. Everytime you discover a new aspect of the game, you get a burst joy followed by an eagerness to continue exploring. Without laying on the story too thick, you still become emotionally attached to the characters, driving you to complete more and more of the game. Not to mention, there is loads of content that hardly ever gets tiring (except Koroks lmao). It honestly has been my favorite game of all time and I hope that you have the same moving and wonderful experience with it that I had.

This is how I view this song portraying BOTW. 0:00 Zelda has always been told that the blood and power of the Goddess Hylia resides within her and it is her duty to harness it to defeat the new coming of Ganon. She was never able to hear the voice of the Goddess, nor was she ever able to ask her mother of her power, for her passing came too soon. This was the prophesy she was born to fulfill. So, why did it seem as though she was lost without any guidance? 0:20 All across Hyrule there were tales of this "Link." A quiet boy, but the tales of his courage spoke volumes to the people. Apparently, this message got to her father too. The princess couldn't help but feel jealousy in the fact that her father's attention and praise was so easily guided towards the Hylian boy. 0:35 Soon enough, after spotting him in the castle on more than one occasion, her father finally introduced the two. Unfortunately for Zelda, King Rhoam had assigned Link as the Princess' knight. For heaven's sake, right? She had no inherent reason to dislike him. Only having jealousy directed towards him as a means of self doubt. It made her mad at times that the boy wouldn't talk. Did he not like her aswell? Had the tales of her failure spread to the surrounding villages too? Nevertheless, he still followed and protected her every step she took. 0:50 With everyday the self hatred for herself and her failures only grew stronger. The Goddess wasn't taking her prayers and only Goddess knew Link's true thoughts towards all of this mess. It was stressful to say the least. The good news was that with every passing day new information about the buried guardians and divine beasts were quite literally being dug up from the ground. The Yiga Clan was a growing problem, trying to take parts from the excavations for their own. So many things to worry about. 0:55 Speak of the Yiga, and they shall show. Trapped, she wished she hadn't been so hateful towards Link as of recently. It was only a reflection of what she truly thought of herself and the poor knight didn't deserve it. She didn't know how this hero came to be, she was just a mere bystander watching him climb to the top like any other Hylian. Thank the Goddess he never failed to protect her, as for he defeated the Yiga that threatened her in at least 3 swings of that sword on his back. 1:09 Oh, everything hit her at once. That courage every Hylian spoke of was standing right in front of her very own eyes, and she fell. She fell hard. The energy had shifted, and while it hadn't been her powers, she definitely felt a different feeling than before. She often found herself trying to get out of the castle more so she could spend more time with Link away from her father's watchful eyes. Every moment spent together was now cherished in her memory, almost with a sort of pinkish fuzz to it. Thats all the princess could articulate to describe the feeling as. What a wonderful feeling it was. Every moment that wasn't spent with Link, was dedicated to praying to the Goddess to finally wake up her power. With every day inching closer and closer to her birthday, she could only hope that the power would wake from within her once she was able to visit the spring of wisdom. 1:28 Her efforts at the spring of wisdom went relatively ignored by the Goddess. The champions did what they could to comfort the princess but the moment was ruined when the return of Ganon swept across Hyrule. So quickly did he infect the guardians and divine beasts with malice, Link being the only help they had left. So quickly did it all come crashing down on them. Goddess, why couldn't she be of any help? Her father died, her friends died, Hylians are dying, soon her dearest Link would be next.. There it was. The power came to her the moment when Link was in danger. Cursed, Goddess. She was barely even able to save him. 1:35 With Link taken to the Shrine of Resurrection, she must face Calamity Ganon alone. 1:38 After a century, Link awakes. The light of Goddess Hylia still being used by Zelda, almost like a vessel, to contain and restrict the Calamity from causing any more damage than what has already been done. Link, just like he had over a century ago, fought so bravely, blindly even. He trusted Zelda's voice, even if he couldn't remember it. The trials he faced, the memories from a past he doesn't remember slowly filling in the holes created by the legends he had heard, slowly he fell back in love with that princess he once knew a lifetime ago. That light that protects Hyrule just shining in the background of his new forthcoming. Now, he had to save her. 1:58 Getting the master sword, saving the divine beasts, and slowly recollecting himself and the power of his own courage, there was no time that would be better than now than to face Calamity Ganon. 2:13 Facing the beast of malice that once put him to rest 100 years ago was no easy task. Arguably stronger and more ready than before, he put in his all to save Hyrule, and more importantly, his princess. The malice disappeared from the castle, from the sky, and Zelda stood finally before him. While nothing would ever be the same as it used to, at least they had each other. End
I've just started getting into Zelda and just by chance I heard someone else do this song and then I looked it up and got you and I'm gonna be totally honest with you, i've never heard someone play something that really made me just stop and listen all the way through, I felt like in that moment I could just cry and it'd be..."Right". You did a fantastic job I love it!
Ok so I love this channel and especially this piece but this isn't hard. If you want to listen to something really hard listen to Liszt's la campanella (would recommend Rousseau's version).
Klodinke Diloni ok so I love Liszt and la campanella, but in the grand scheme of things it’s really not that hard. You should listen to islamey by balakirev. Recommend berezovsky version
That left hand tho.. This is so beautiful its difficult to even wrap my mind around the melody & really feel like i am fully appreciating this piece. Amazing.
2:13 onwards especially drew me in. I don't think I've seen it flipped like that, where you've got the right hand doing a few chords and the left hand goes crazy with a nice low melody. It felt like the perfect ending to this song.
everyone is talking about single pieces of this song, but i just enjoy the present of the song going through a story. this is what i feel when i hear classics and that zelda piano cover can achive the same feeling is mind blowing. its beautiful
I've played piano for 7 years and I've never bought a piece of sheet music until yesterday when I bought this. I've never wanted to play a piece as much as this.
i love the way you incorporated the left hand accompaniment with the subtle melodies, the musicality and freedom of interpretation is very good in this arrangement. Most people just play the piano transcription but this makes a much better solo performance. This sounds more like something I would play at one of my recitals.
MusicMan20 thx man. I’m only one cover artist in a vast sea of people doing this on TH-cam. I rely on enthusiastic viewers like you to spread the word. Thanks for the comment and glad you like the content. ❤️
This reminds me a lot of Chopin's Ballade no. 1, not only the style but how it gets angrier and angrier, and then calm again. Best arrangement I've ever heard of this piece, definitely tops the original.
Oh god I’m literally watching these videos to escape that piece. I’ve been playing it for almost 2 years for a competition and today is the submission day for the performance recording. Ballade No.1 is a beautiful piece but and I completely agree with you about the angrier part. Especially at the coda. I also start to feel angry when I play the ending (because it’s so difficult when I’m practicing that I just get angry from all my mistakes lol)
Ballade no.1 is one of my favorite pieces of music and I had to come down to the comments to see if I was the only one who thought this. Great composition of this song
The piano will always be the most beautiful instrument to me. To invoke so much emotion with only our 10 fingers is wild to me. And I love classic guitar as well
I keep listening to this composition. I actually turn off the visuals now because even though they're so fun to look at they distract from the music it self. I love how you give the melody and take it away in new ways. We're so familiar with this melody and it's already such a mystical sounding melody when you add intrigue to it but giving us twists and turns against those strong expectations it just blows me away. The only suggestion I'd make is to actually repeat the traditional melody an entire time after that intro sequence. I understand that the way you have it in this video is great for those who are already so familiar with the melody as it starts us off on unsure footing right off the bat, but giving the full melody just that one time will refresh our ears and just make our expectations to hear it repeat even stronger (I do know that you have connected the chordal form of the melody to the more traditional arpeggio type form of it, but it still sounds like an intro sequence that just happens to connect melodically to the traditional style. It will do so even more so for those who aren't familiar with the full melody. Though the length of my sentence would seem to suggest otherwise this is an extremely minor preference and you're free to completely ignore it of course. This is just wonderful, I can't wait to hear what you do with other music.
This is the most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard. Found it out today and can't stop listening to it. It honestly helps a lot copping with sadness. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.
Ive decided to learn this one song. I shouldnt be able to play it, i dont play the piano, but if i could learn only one song its going to be this exact version. I promise not to subject anyone around me to the torture of learning it. Its easy to go "hey look what ive learnt so far" but for this project im going to keep it as a personal secret hobby of slow progression. And bust it out when im an old man.
I would not recommend this to a beginner tbh but if your passionate about it, give it a shot. Arpeggio warmups are your friend in this endeavor. Also some theory knowledge (learn and know what chords are playing) will help tremendously. GL.
@@luckypunk4784 Nice! For me it was the kind of people who could just sit down and play at a piano and have it sound magical, been playing for 5 and a half years, still love it :)
I cried the first time I heard it In 2019, just found it in a private yt playlist and I still shed a tear. Idk how to explain it all I can say is I love music.
I've watched a large portion of your videos, and this is the video I keep coming back to. It gives me chills everytime I listen to it. Your arrangement is absolutely beautiful
Every time i watch this i just go buck wild and start screaming when you get back to the original melody around 1:30. What a beautiful buildup and composition, always gives me the biggest grin
At the end of the movie Your Name, I like to imagine that when Taki and Mitsuha tell each other their names 1:38 plays in the background when the memories flood back into their heads
Me before watching: Yes. I love this song, it's so beautiful. I should learn to play this. Ten seconds in: ok, this is perhaps challenging, but I think I could handle this 30 seconds in: has "forgotten" to pay attention to the notes and is just listening to the song 2 minutes in: finally accept that I will never be able to play this
just purchased the sheet music ❤️ i haven't played in 3 years but i had played piano for 14 years before that, and this is inspiring me to get back into it. thank you :) lovely rendition.
ahh I started learning this at the beginning of quarantine along with my normal piano lesson stuff,,, 3 pages down, 2 to go!!! this is so beautiful and Erik you do a wonderful job of turning game and show tunes into actual musically and technically beautiful piano arrangements,,,,i’m so excited for your future uploads :)
I want to walk down the aisle to this exact arrangement of this song. I’m not even engaged, but Zelda has been a part of me since I was a little kid. Fairy Fountain is one of the most recognizable and beautiful songs in the Zelda franchise, and you made it even more beautiful than it already is.
Wow, this tune takes on a really awesome tone sped up a bit around 1:12, that almost feels like it could be the theme for a zelda game centred around the fairies
I wanted to see how a good pianist places their RH fingers for the 0:20 part, and you just blew my mind with your performance. People really should try piano sometime, to realize how outstanding these performances really are, I had my jaw on the floor all along.
The *slight* mistake you made was in the chord progression at 1:32, but it isn't very noticeable. I only mentioned it because you asked in the description. Incredible arrangement and AWESOME execution. You've made something very beautiful, and it's an honor to listen to it.
I thought I was the only one, I guess I have good ears for music too. As a pianist with extremely small hands, I can’t dream of ever playing this amazing piece.
i used to play the legend of zelda all the time. sometimes, i used to stay inside the fairy fountain for hours on end just to hear the music. thank you for making this, friend!!
I like to think he progressively gets more pissed off as he plays the song (edit). last time I checked this comment had 30 likes....wtf ._. thanks anyways!
10 years from now, you are sitting in a cafe doing your work on your laptop, all grown up with the responsibilities of the world on your shoulders, all the anxiety filling you up from the inside, suddenly you hear a familiar tune, one that struck your mind through all the noises around you and through the loud voices in your head. It comes from a kid sitting on the next table playing the latest legend of zelda game on his latest nintendo handheld. Suddenly you are transported to your childhood home, playing the zelda game of your youth, all the memories with the game and the carefree life you had at the time come flushing in - completing your first dungeon, getting your first sword, finishing the game for the fist time, and how nothing else in the world mattered for you more then defeating that one enemy or boss you for the life of you could not do. With a tear falling down on your hand, you are transported back to the cafe, where the kid and his parents packed up and left. After sobbing for a while and reminiscing for a while, you go back to your everyday worries, a tad bit relived with the memories of the simpler times a long time ago...
this piece is like a breath of fresh air every time I've felt sad or depressed I always come back to this song. This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.
I love this piece so much, I'm currently learning this on piano and it's amazing yet difficult, I've only played for a year and this is by far the most beautiful yet abstract song I've learned yet, I watch this video whenever I mess up or forget so I can see my mistake and fix it I have only learned the first melody for my right hand, hopefully I can train my left hand to be able to play this, thank you for inspiring me to keep playing, I absolutely love they way you play
Just saying this dude being able to play this means that he has started playing piano at a very young age learning the fundamentals. The fact that Erik has been playing for this long and is able to play this song. That's respect my dude.
I saw "Etude" in the title and thought "hold up, did he really make an etude out of this fairly simple song?" Definitely an etude, and very well played. Honestly somewhat jealous of the compositional ability.
I fell in love with this so much, I had played piano for around 15 years. But now it's been about decade since the last time I've touched my piano... I know what song to learn now to get myself back into it. Wish me luck guys because this song hit me in all the right feels!!!
I just noticed... But the main melody resembles a heartbeat, especially at around 0:35. Sorry if I'm slow but I never thought of that, holy fuck my mind has been blown...
I've never cried over a song played at the piano, this is my very first time. And I swear to god I'm going to learn this, this exact version of Great Fairy Fountain, even if it will be 5 years ahead, I'm going to learn it, no matter what.
i’ve lost the motivation/inspiration to play the piano but this brings me such happiness and nostalgia at the same time i can’t even explain it, i’ve never even played zelda yet i have this urge to learn this piece omfg . It’s too difficult 4 me but i’m gonna find smth more suited for me and study!
If Zelda games actually sounded like this I don't think I'd ever leave the fountain.

Her efforts at the spring of wisdom went relatively ignored by the Goddess.
1:35
With Link taken to the Shrine of Resurrection, she must face Calamity Ganon alone.
1:38
After a century, Link awakes.
1:58
Getting the master sword, saving the divine beasts, and slowly recollecting himself and the power of his own courage, there was no time that would be better than now than to face Calamity Ganon.
2:13
Facing the beast of malice that once put him to rest 100 years ago was no easy task.

Wolfgang Chopin Meanwhile Ravel be like: Gaspard de la nuit.

That left hand tho.. This is so beautiful its difficult to even wrap my mind around the melody & really feel like i am fully appreciating this piece. Amazing.
Everybody is talking of 1:38, but no one talks about 2:13, how elegant and how it changes the way you listen to the song❤️
2:13 onwards especially drew me in. I don't think I've seen it flipped like that, where you've got the right hand doing a few chords and the left hand goes crazy with a nice low melody. It felt like the perfect ending to this song.
From 2:13 to 2:28-ish is literally the most beautiful piece of music I have ever EVER heard😭

i love the way you incorporated the left hand accompaniment with the subtle melodies, the musicality and freedom of interpretation is very good in this arrangement.

It reminded me Clair de lune lol
Its almost a theme and variation of fantasie impromtu Theme 2 tbh.
GL.
Good luck! It was the Skyrim theme that convinced me to start playing piano and I’ve been going for nearly four years now and well worth it

Wow! This is so special. Definitely made my day. Thanks so much for this.
Dude... you're amazing. I really am out of words. I just want to leave a single word to you: thanks.
I wanted to see how a good pianist places their RH fingers for the 0:20 part, and you just blew my mind with your performance. People really should try piano sometime, to realize how outstanding these performances really are, I had my jaw on the floor all along.

After each new time of asking, I grew progressively closer to being unable to anymore control my innermost emotions. Wonderful.
The *slight* mistake you made was in the chord progression at 1:32, but it isn't very noticeable. I only mentioned it because you asked in the description. Incredible arrangement and AWESOME execution. You've made something very beautiful, and it's an honor to listen to it.

@@TheAmazone12 my life in a nutshell
