Scott she killed by mistake not controlling her powers, but here she restrains herself just enough to save logan and allow him the chance to stop her. If the phoenix wanted Logan dead she could do so in an instant, no adamantium is surviving it.
Yeah especially the scene where Xavier dies as she's lifting him and you get his point of view she just looks like this otherworldly demon with those black eyes. The movie might not have been great but they did a good job selling her as this cataclysmic super powerful eldritch entity. Less a mutant and more a demigod.

I did actually find this as the only emotional scene of the movie. Mainly because I thought Wolverine and Jean Grey had some good chemistry going, until all of that just came to an end here. Even Wolverine said “I love you.” before stabbing Jean.
The only reason he survived is she chose not to kill him. His healing factor was not stronger than the phoenix force. She could have easily killed him in an instant, if she had wanted to.

If they remain true to the Marvel story the phoenix force takes on a separate form later and the true Jean returns.

I guess I have to rephrase what I said: love does not need to be requited to be genuine. While it started as physical attraction during the first movie, there was a long enough period of time for him to develop genuine love for her. Also, it's important to remember that loving someone doesn't mean they have to love you back, and I would say that the deepest Jean's affection went was a low to moderate level of attraction. Another factor for his love could have been the traumatic event of 'losing' her at Alkali Lake, something that would make the existing emotional attachment more intense.

I'm leaning towards the former.
