Bakugou kinda sucks to my opinion. He is Deku rival but he never accomplish anything great to prove he is better than deku. And I suspect that bakugou is the EDITOR Pet and Horikoshi PEST. Right after he becomes deku rival, he becomes irrelevant to the plot in a clever way that you can't notice until you reread the manga. The most obvious one is his lack of villains fight which made him look pathetic as a hero compare to deku.
I recently found out for a online news article that bakugo was DESIGNED to be a CRUEL BULLY. But during the story, horikoshi CHANGED HIS MIND and gave bakugo redemption. That means, bakugo becoming nice is a RECON. The way bakugo acts in the beginning of the story, is how he was going to act the ENTIRE STORY. Until horikoshi changed his mind. So people who HATED bakugo for the way he acted in the story's beginning are correct to hate him. That personality bakugo started with is his ORIGINAL personality. Meaning people who defend bakugo for his personality in the beginning of the story are relying on a RECON that horikoshi made to bakugo.
That's not a retcon. This is a normal process all writers go through when starting their stories. (Learn what retcon means) Horikoshi never made Bakugo nice. He's fully committed to keeping him unlikeable but he wants him to grow into his own brand of heroism. Which is why people gravitate towards him. They knew exactly what they were signing up for when they chose to be invested in this character's journey. All Horikoshi said was he wanted to show off Bakugo's humanity.

Danzo ended up being so important to the history of naruto even though he never existed in og naruto. What I said about bakugo was correct. Bakugo was designed to be unlikable but either due his editors or bakugo's growing fanbase, horikoshi changed bakugo to be more likable to cater to his fans. Bakugo was FOR SOME REASON one of the most popular characters of Mha. I think horikoshi just capitalized on bakugo's popularity and caters to his fans by giving him redemption. It is not the first or last time a manga author changed a character due to fan reception about that character.

I literally stopped watching MHA because most of the characters are insufferable. Bakugo told Izuku to commit suicide and bullied Izuku all his life. Izuku is timid and even forgives bakugo without any redemption. Aizawa doesn’t protect his students by expelling the clearly, unheroic and aggressive student even though he expelled like 140 students for being inadequate. And the school, for accepting such a person while knowing of his attitude, and also not even protecting class 1-A who is constantly attacked by villains, doesn’t provide therapy, and literally starts a festival to prove that the school is alright after a traumatic villain attack that almost had class 1-A killed.
I know that all these characters are to move the plot forward, but from a realistic view, this is clear neglect and abuse on the school’s part, and bakugo bullying an innocent kid to the degree of physical and mental torture, and the most unrealistic part would be Izuku who forgives and forgets at the drop of nothing just for it to repeat again, without any sort of snap back.
Bakugo's *allegedly* a "prodigy" with a "powerful" quirk & Aizawa actively refuses to put ANY amount of effort into doing his job; I'm more surprised he didn't expel the entire class *except* Bakugo on day 1, tbh.
There is also the odd favoritism with the writers. From god like reactions to somehow being even more of a tactical genius than the Mc who is literally obsessive about quirks/hero’s. he’s even smarter being able to test higher on a midterm than Deku as a slap in the face.

I've never been fan of Bakugo or any another character with similiar problem of having only one defining trait to them. I found his constant "IM ANGY ALL THE TIME" personality very annoying as the show went on.
Agreed. The fact that he didn't get any secondary points in the entrance exam alone should've raised red flags for the staff. But, then again, they are also raised by the hero society. Not quite as bad as it was at series start, but still on the way to it.
I hate the fact that the coolest hero edgeshot sacrificed himself to save that asshole. I Mean, WHY, WHY HIM, THEY SHOULD HAVE LEAVED EDGESHOT ALIVE, AND EVEN IF HE WOULD SACRIFICE HIMSELF, IT COULD BE LITTERLY EVERYONE ELSE (except mineta).
Mineta is too weak to do anything while bakugan there shoots explosions out of his fingers. At least you can kick Mineta away from you like a football, i think southpark demonstrates how to do that with kyle and ike, dont kick the baby
I recently finished a fanfiction where they actually did a good job redeeming Bakugo. Do you know what they did? They had him lose to Midoriya. And not only that. They made him lose clearly and badly. And not only that, Izuku reveals to everyone in class 1a that he bullied him as a kid for being quirkless and even told him to jump off a building and how Midoriya actually considered it in a moment of weakness. EVERYONE turns on him, even Kaminari and Red Riot (forgot his name) abandoned him and made him the social outcast. He is forced to go to therapy for his insecurities and has to work to receive everyone's forgiveness. It doesn't happen quickly. In fact it takes quite a while for the class to forgive him, but eventually, through many steps and attempys on Bakugo's part, he was able to earn not only Izuku's forgiveness, but the class as well. In the end he turns out pretty good. He was still crass and a bit of a hot head, but he really simmered down, learned to say "please" and "thank you" and became an actual likeable character. In the anime/manga, Bakugo did none of these things and as a result, I still think he's the worst character in mha and until he has a serious loss and has to be built back up again (LIKE ALL OTHER CHARACTERS), he will forever remain irredeemable. Man needs to work for it.
And the worst thing is that there are people shipping DEKU AND BAKUGO like....BRO THEY RE NOT FRIENDS AT ALL, THEIR RELATIONSHIP IS TOXIC AND BAKUGO LITERALLY TRIED TO KILL DEKU, SO DUDE....go to therapy, you must be an idiot who likes to ship enemies that even after asking apologize to each other (in bakugo's case, it was a weak excuse). Also bakugo I was ENVY of him, it's not jealousy, it's ENVY, because Midoriya is a born hero, even though he originally had no powers, and Bakugo realized this since he was a child.
Something I find really interesting about My Hero Academia is that a lot of the characters have really bad introductions, but the characters still become interesting and endearing (for the most part). Bakugo is completely awful in his first scenes. Deku is a crybaby and even though he's shown to be smart, can't use his brain in an emergency. All Might is a fraud and a coward. Iida is as big a dick as Bakugo and that's true for a few other characters too. It's really stunning to me that the show works as well as it does given those introductions.
What I about bakugo is he never accomplish any heroic deeds that could prove he is a better hero than deku. If you read the manga up to the final arc list all the heroic deeds accomplish by deku and bakugou, and you will notice the difference. Heroic deeds are beating villains and saving lives, this does not include beating your fellow hero or showing how strong your quirk. Deku has an impresive record of villains fights where he beats stain, mascular, overhaul, gentle, ladyb nagant, villains in the dark hero arc and shirigaki. He also saves kota, eri and several dozen people. Bakugo has a piss poor record as a hero. He only beat the purse theif and the dictator, and save shoto brother . He beats more of his fellow hero than villains. If their deeds were known in universe , deku would be praise as the next almight while bakugo is mocked and view as a pathetic hero.

What makes bakugou more disappointing is he never prove himself as a hero. If you read the manga and count how many villains did deku and bakugou defeats, it obvious who is better. Deku fought and won against stain, mascular, overhaul, gentle, lady nagant, villains of dark hero arc and shirigaki/afo. Compare to bakugou who only beats two villains ( purse thief and dictator)
Little known fun fact about me: Mineta is in my top 10 favorite characters and he's in 5th place. Meanwhile for Bakugo, he's in the top 7 characters i hate. He's in 3. I honestly don't understand why people even tend to like him and make romantic videos like Bakugo x Y/n, while ME IF I WAS Y/N, IT WOULDN'T EVEN BE A ENEMIES TO LOVERS, IT'D BE ENEMIES TO WORST ENEMIES.
I don't necessarily hate him, mainly because I can scarcely find a reason to take him seriously. Most of the characters around him can likely no diff him with negative difficulty (and yes, this counts Mineta as well). And while he has won encounters against his fellow students, it takes a long time for him to actually catch any remote W against a named threat. He's practically a jobber, but many insist that he be taken seriously. He's practically the Baraka of the My Hero Universe but is only meant to be taken seriously by those on his side. Any villain past S5 can solo him with varying levels of difficulty. He also doesn't really grow outside of the "angry superiority complex" box, or at least noticeably. Kirishima and Kaminari are technically his friends, and are able to tell when he doesn't mean it, but to the audience, how can we tell that he means right if he shouts "Die, Die, DIE!" like an off-brand version of reaper. Yes. In terms of mineta, he just feels like a character that is there to be blamed for any situation leafing to fanservice, admittedly he is made to be disgusting and hated. You are absolutely correct about it being practically impossible to take bakugo seriously. He sometimes feels like his only purpose is to be a soft antagonist to get Deku's story going without it including a seriously threatening opponents, but even then there is early shigaraki to do that job. Bakugo is good in a fight and that’s all he’s good for. As a person he’s a bit of a piece of shit. The fact he bastardizes Deku for trying to help him as kids should tel you everything you need to know about him. If I met someone like him in real life I would steer the fuck clear.

Something that no one ever really addresses that when everyone else had some kind of negative character arc or redemptive moment, they had to sacrifice. Potency of their abilities, their pride, their lives, a permanent scar to their body but Bakugo doesn’t sacrifice anything to become a better person. Sure he becomes a weaker after the final battle, but that’s an ad hoc nonsensical turn that has nothing to do with his actual character progression. Bakugo kept all the accolades he got from the school who was covering up his bad actions. No one ever finds out the kind of person he really is so he never loses any face with any of the class. It’s like all the things that should’ve happened to redeem him happen in the wrong place and time, making them worthless instead of showing him to be a better person he just stays trash and happened to get injured in a battle

I never liked Bakugo from the start. He was just a real pain from the get-go. His God complex, frequent temper tantrums, and constant belittling and insulting of others made him headache-inducing to deal with. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for him to grow as a character and become more likable, but aside from brief little moments, that never happened. He just really dragged down the show for me. He made little bits of progress with his behavior as the series went on, but it wasn't fast enough progress for me to start liking him or getting behind him. Why should I give him praise just because he's only slightly less of a jerk than he was at the beginning? Don't even get me started on all the character shilling he gets in the show or how he almost never gets called out for his actions or faces consequences for anything. They try to make him out to be a real hero, but he isn't one at all. He's just a narcissistic, arrogant, rude, bratty, selfish, hypocritical, uncaring bully. He isn't a good person at all. That's just a fact. And I might have been able to respect that if he weren't one of the main characters, if he weren't meant to be seen as one of the heroes, and if the audience wasn't expected to sympathize with him to some extent. Mineta sucks too, but at least he usually gets put in his place. I don't necessarily hate EVERYTHING about Bakugo. I liked him in the Festival Arc, and every so often I can appreciate where he's coming from with certain points he makes. For the most part, though, he REALLY grates on my nerves, and the validation he receives both in and out of universe just adds insult to injury.

Okay, just going to have say, MHA is a series that argues for nuance & how change is a process, not a destination. Progress is a big thing in this series. The argument that Bakugo's development is slow & how that's bad is ridiculous because it's almost as if you want him to stay the same. Villains or people who have an addiction always use the excuse of "It's too late, I can't turn back now" to justify themselves when the reality is they don't want change. So why is this such a common point used against Bakugo? Bakugo's aggression & brashness are his core traits. His lesson is learning how to channel them more positively which he blatantly has. It's the same for any other character. They keep their core traits & change. But for some people, Bakugo has to abandon his core traits for a more appealing personality. I'm sorry but that's not development. You're just writing a new character. And the comparison with Demon Slayer & Inosuke is even more ridiculous because Demon Slayer is less than half of MHA's length so ofc it's pacing is faster. And Inosuke's background is not even the same as Bakugo's. This comparison doesn't make sense. All you're doing comparing surface level traits without any thought about their context. This just sounds like bad faith criticism. Bakugo is from the onset is established as unlikeable character & the author doesn't shy away from that. The goal for Bakugo is to grow into his own brand of heroism. A selfish figure that ascends not in spite of his selfish, but because of it. The key lesson is gaining awareness of the world around him. That's the maturity that Bakugo has displayed & will continue to display.

Yes, he did bully deku, but if you actually pay attention to the manga or the anime, he clearly states to all might that he bullied deku to protect him and bring down his dreams of becoming a hero so in other words, he was basically trying to save his life, and repeatedly in the anime, you can see his respect for deku by literally getting himself killed multiple times and also his color character development is actually insane

Aizawa doesn’t protect his students by expelling the clearly, unheroic and aggressive student even though he expelled like 140 students for being inadequate.
And the school, for accepting such a person while knowing of his attitude, and also not even protecting class 1-A who is constantly attacked by villains, doesn’t provide therapy, and literally starts a festival to prove that the school is alright after a traumatic villain attack that almost had class 1-A killed.
I know that all these characters are to move the plot forward, but from a realistic view, this is clear neglect and abuse on the school’s part, and bakugo bullying an innocent kid to the degree of physical and mental torture, and the most unrealistic part would be Izuku who forgives and forgets at the drop of nothing just for it to repeat again, without any sort of snap back.

I've never been fan of Bakugo or any another character with similiar problem of having only one defining trait to them.
I found his constant "IM ANGY ALL THE TIME" personality very annoying as the show went on.

Agreed. The fact that he didn't get any secondary points in the entrance exam alone should've raised red flags for the staff. But, then again, they are also raised by the hero society. Not quite as bad as it was at series start, but still on the way to it.

I recently finished a fanfiction where they actually did a good job redeeming Bakugo. Do you know what they did? They had him lose to Midoriya. And not only that. They made him lose clearly and badly. And not only that, Izuku reveals to everyone in class 1a that he bullied him as a kid for being quirkless and even told him to jump off a building and how Midoriya actually considered it in a moment of weakness. EVERYONE turns on him, even Kaminari and Red Riot (forgot his name) abandoned him and made him the social outcast. He is forced to go to therapy for his insecurities and has to work to receive everyone's forgiveness. It doesn't happen quickly. In fact it takes quite a while for the class to forgive him, but eventually, through many steps and attempys on Bakugo's part, he was able to earn not only Izuku's forgiveness, but the class as well. In the end he turns out pretty good. He was still crass and a bit of a hot head, but he really simmered down, learned to say "please" and "thank you" and became an actual likeable character.
In the anime/manga, Bakugo did none of these things and as a result, I still think he's the worst character in mha and until he has a serious loss and has to be built back up again (LIKE ALL OTHER CHARACTERS), he will forever remain irredeemable. Man needs to work for it.

Something I find really interesting about My Hero Academia is that a lot of the characters have really bad introductions, but the characters still become interesting and endearing (for the most part). Bakugo is completely awful in his first scenes. Deku is a crybaby and even though he's shown to be smart, can't use his brain in an emergency. All Might is a fraud and a coward. Iida is as big a dick as Bakugo and that's true for a few other characters too. It's really stunning to me that the show works as well as it does given those introductions.

What I about bakugo is he never accomplish any heroic deeds that could prove he is a better hero than deku.
If you read the manga up to the final arc list all the heroic deeds accomplish by deku and bakugou, and you will notice the difference. Heroic deeds are beating villains and saving lives, this does not include beating your fellow hero or showing how strong your quirk.
Deku has an impresive record of villains fights where he beats stain, mascular, overhaul, gentle, ladyb nagant, villains in the dark hero arc and shirigaki. He also saves kota, eri and several dozen people.
Bakugo has a piss poor record as a hero. He only beat the purse theif and the dictator, and save shoto brother . He beats more of his fellow hero than villains.
If their deeds were known in universe , deku would be praise as the next almight while bakugo is mocked and view as a pathetic hero.
I think i hate him just because hes so toxic to everyone around him and the fact that fans love him for that just makes me dislike him more

It's ok, better than most seasonal stuff that comes out but not the greatest thing ever. I'd say it's around 7
I don't necessarily hate him, mainly because I can scarcely find a reason to take him seriously. Most of the characters around him can likely no diff him with negative difficulty (and yes, this counts Mineta as well). And while he has won encounters against his fellow students, it takes a long time for him to actually catch any remote W against a named threat. He's practically a jobber, but many insist that he be taken seriously. He's practically the Baraka of the My Hero Universe but is only meant to be taken seriously by those on his side. Any villain past S5 can solo him with varying levels of difficulty. He also doesn't really grow outside of the "angry superiority complex" box, or at least noticeably. Kirishima and Kaminari are technically his friends, and are able to tell when he doesn't mean it, but to the audience, how can we tell that he means right if he shouts "Die, Die, DIE!" like an off-brand version of reaper.

Yes. In terms of mineta, he just feels like a character that is there to be blamed for any situation leafing to fanservice, admittedly he is made to be disgusting and hated.
You are absolutely correct about it being practically impossible to take bakugo seriously. He sometimes feels like his only purpose is to be a soft antagonist to get Deku's story going without it including a seriously threatening opponents, but even then there is early shigaraki to do that job.

Like, really? His character development has left him at the just below the average person, since he is still a raging asshole. Something that no one ever really addresses that when everyone else had some kind of negative character arc or redemptive moment, they had to sacrifice. Potency of their abilities, their pride, their lives, a permanent scar to their body but Bakugo doesn’t sacrifice anything to become a better person. Sure he becomes a weaker after the final battle, but that’s an ad hoc nonsensical turn that has nothing to do with his actual character progression. Bakugo kept all the accolades he got from the school who was covering up his bad actions. No one ever finds out the kind of person he really is so he never loses any face with any of the class. It’s like all the things that should’ve happened to redeem him happen in the wrong place and time, making them worthless instead of showing him to be a better person he just stays trash and happened to get injured in a battle

I never liked Bakugo from the start. He was just a real pain from the get-go. His God complex, frequent temper tantrums, and constant belittling and insulting of others made him headache-inducing to deal with. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for him to grow as a character and become more likable, but aside from brief little moments, that never happened. He just really dragged down the show for me. He made little bits of progress with his behavior as the series went on, but it wasn't fast enough progress for me to start liking him or getting behind him. Why should I give him praise just because he's only slightly less of a jerk than he was at the beginning? Don't even get me started on all the character shilling he gets in the show or how he almost never gets called out for his actions or faces consequences for anything. They try to make him out to be a real hero, but he isn't one at all. He's just a narcissistic, arrogant, rude, bratty, selfish, hypocritical, uncaring bully. He isn't a good person at all. That's just a fact. And I might have been able to respect that if he weren't one of the main characters, if he weren't meant to be seen as one of the heroes, and if the audience wasn't expected to sympathize with him to some extent. Mineta sucks too, but at least he usually gets put in his place. I don't necessarily hate EVERYTHING about Bakugo. I liked him in the Festival Arc, and every so often I can appreciate where he's coming from with certain points he makes. For the most part, though, he REALLY grates on my nerves, and the validation he receives both in and out of universe just adds insult to injury.

Okay, just going to have say, MHA is a series that argues for nuance & how change is a process, not a destination. Progress is a big thing in this series.
The argument that Bakugo's development is slow & how that's bad is ridiculous because it's almost as if you want him to stay the same.
Villains or people who have an addiction always use the excuse of "It's too late, I can't turn back now" to justify themselves when the reality is they don't want change.
So why is this such a common point used against Bakugo?
Bakugo's aggression & brashness are his core traits. His lesson is learning how to channel them more positively which he blatantly has.
It's the same for any other character. They keep their core traits & change. But for some people, Bakugo has to abandon his core traits for a more appealing personality. I'm sorry but that's not development. You're just writing a new character.
And the comparison with Demon Slayer & Inosuke is even more ridiculous because Demon Slayer is less than half of MHA's length so ofc it's pacing is faster. And Inosuke's background is not even the same as Bakugo's. This comparison doesn't make sense. All you're doing comparing surface level traits without any thought about their context.

Bakugo is from the onset is established as unlikeable character & the author doesn't shy away from that. The goal for Bakugo is to grow into his own brand of heroism.
A selfish figure that ascends not in spite of his selfish, but because of it. The key lesson is gaining awareness of the world around him. That's the maturity that Bakugo has displayed & will continue to display.
