The bass at the start is played on keys. Note the keyboard players left hand playing it. Then it’s joined by the bass guitar. They both play the simple/constant bass line together for the entire song creating that massive low end drive.
Unfortunately it’s 2024 not 1978. If it’s called Simple Minds and it sounds like Simple Minds, it’s Simple Minds. I can’t think of any bands from that era who have more than one or two original members. But it’s great to still be able to hear the old songs and they obviously love doing it. All power to them.

I noticed that too. I’ve seen other bands in the last year or two have little bits added into songs that were obviously pre-recorded.

Between 55 seconds to 60 seconds the keyboardist has both hands down by his sides. He's not playing the bass.
