Simple Minds - Sydney - February 8 2024

- It was suppose to have taken place in 2020 but something happened and it was postponed for a year. Then twelve months later, in 2021 that something was still happening and the tour was cancelled. It’s taken Simple Minds a further two and a half years to return to Sydney, the one consolation being a better venue than that planned in 2020/21, resulting in a much better view for me.
Being a bit of a puritan when it comes to song versions, I’m not entirely convinced by last year’s reimagining of “New Gold Dream”, but I respect the band’s right to tinker with songs that they’ve been playing live for over 40 years. And I have to admit Jim Kerr, Charlie Burchill and the others who have joined the band in more recent years, brought all the songs to life beautifully. Jim was in fine vocal form. And Cherisse Osei, one of the newest members, drove them all with machine-like precision, never missing a beat. From a total of 16 songs, I recorded these seven:
I Travel (00:08)
Love Song (04:54)
Promised You a Miracle (09:40)
Someone Somewhere in Summertime (14:08)
Theme for Great Cities (19:20)
Amazing Grace (24:45)
Alive and Kicking (27:15)
This was the first performance of two on the same night, but there was no sense that the band were pacing themselves for the long night ahead, and it went longer than I expected, with the band only having about 50 minutes to catch their breath before doing it all again.
It may have taken Simple Minds a couple of extra years to get back to Australia but that only added to the excitement of the occasion. A brilliant night. - เพลง

They rocked! Super set on the GC too. Crowd on their feet from first number!
It's been 41 years (summer of 1983) since I saw this amazing band playing live for the first time at Rock Torhout in Belgium..... still love their music so much.... thanks for sharing..
Their music is still sounding just as good today. And they are playing just as well. Thanks for commenting.
What a beautiful concert! THEY SOUND GREAT!!!! My group since 1985! Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
It was a great concert. Hopefully, they'll include South America this year in their world tour. I hope you get the chance to see them. Thanks for commenting.
@@Peter_LiveMusic oh, my god!!!! It's true???? WOW!!!!!!
Thanks for this ❤going to see them in Glasgow in memory of my son he loved them your love lasts forever ❤
How was Glasgow? It looks like they've been having amazing concerts across UK and Europe. Huge audiences.
SM are one of the few bands from the 80s that continue to give a great show- many bands from the 80s have not fared that well but this is excellent!
I forget how many great songs they have! And gosh Jim Kerr has some very good knees!!
I was impressed with his knees too 😆
God this is really something. Simple Minds with full production, full sound, playing I Travel in Sydney in 2024. Wow
Still going very strong. This world tour is surprising a lot of people.
Wow, 'Theme for Great Cities' live is such a vibe! I've seen SM three times since 1986 but never that piece of absolute art. Thanks for this wonderful recording. 😍 I was very happy to be at the concert that kicked off this tour, in Taupō a few weeks ago. 🤩
Yes, it was so good getting 'Theme for Great Cities', and I'm very pleased I managed to record it. First song of the encore so I was ready to video whatever they came back with. Lovely surprise. By the sound of it, all their performances have been great, whether festival or solo. Thanks for commenting.
Simple Minds auch heute noch eine klasse Band . Höre Sie seit Anfang der 80'er Jahre . Tolle Alben hervorgebracht.
Eine großartige Band, die immer noch großartige Musik produziert.
I didn’t get to see them this time but they are incredible live! To maintain an audience as long as they have on the global stage is nothing short of amazing! Cheers for posting!!
It was a great night. It's been decades since I last saw them. Hopefully, there'll be a next time. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for posting ❤
thanks Pete I saw the second show and they rocked out it was a great gig at a great venue
Good to hear the second show rocked. The review in the SMH of that show wasn't all that great. Thought they should have done them over two seperate nights. But I'm sure Simple Minds had very good reasons why they had to do two in one night. And quite a few die-hard fans went to both. Yes, a great venue to see them. Thanks for commenting.
Great to see them live lots of memories from my youth cheers
Sensacional 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Que som maravilhoso 🥰
Thank you so much for thos gift!!
Best wishes from Brazil 💖
Glad you enjoyed it.
Brilliant video of what looked like a fantastic concert. I'm going to see them in London in March, and I cannot wait!
Thanks very much. Yes, it was a terrific night. You'll have a great time in London.
Was at the Mornington show a few days after this, absolutely epic. Thanks for posting - I was keen to relive the event - got some recordings but not as clear or steady as yours as we were standing in the crowd ... superb, thanks again. Only sad they didn't play First You Jump - that songs a banger!!!
Glad to hear that the Mornington show was just as good. I always try for steady video these days which is the main reason I try and avoid the crowd. I do miss some of the 'in the moment' excitement but I do enjoy rewatching my footage afterwards. Thanks for commenting.
OMG they still sound so amazing!!!!
I was in the second row, and there's a moment where Jim reached down and held my hand... and you captured it! Thank you so much. I'm still flying high
What a great memory to have of a terrific night. Keep flying.
We were a few rows behind you. The bass and drums drowned out the lead guitar and Jim’s aging vocals. Great venue but very different band to what I saw in the 1980’s - still a great concert
@@simonrooney7942 I used to always try and get close to the front, but since getting more 'serious' about my videoing, I've started sitting further back where sound quality is much better. Sometimes, during the concert, I wouldn't even notice it, only to watch my video afterwards disappointed with the results, particularly with 'missing' vocals. It's always a challenge finding that sweet spot between visuals and sound quality. I've got a couple coming up where I'll have no choice but to be down the front. Fingers crossed the sound won't be too bad.
I too saw them in the '80s but sadly don't remember anything of that gig now. Happy I got to see them again and now have something to remind me of the night into my twilight years.
Amazing! Amazing stuff!
@@simonrooney7942❤
Great video and sound quality.
Thanks very much. Glad you enjoyed it. It was a terrific concert.
@Peter - Thanks for sharing, lost count of the times I have seen them live, great show every time - still magic
I was there.Just a brilliant performance by each and every band member ❤️❤️
Simple Minds hell yea
Had front row middle for Melbourne, alas at the start of the year my aorta ripped operated on and various complications I was out of hospital a month later but too weak to attend the 13th! SM NEVER DISAPPOINT! Thanks Peter.
Sorry to hear you missed them. I know what it's like. A couple of years ago I had back surgery and missed two concerts I had really been looking forward to. Still, the important thing is getting better so that we have the chance of seeing other concerts later. Hope you are soon feeling 100% again. Thanks for commenting.
Sounding fantastic. Crowd looked really up for it too.
Indeed, they sounded great.
The back up singer was amazing and you can’t beat Cherisse Ossei on drums.Saw them in Taormina in 2022 and Sydney Feb 24 .Both performances were wonderful. Their longevity is because of the change and growth.
Cherisse is phenomenal. The bass player was fine especially on songs like I travel.
Yes, there are still very much a living band. Still making terrific music. The band performs very well as a whole, capturing the essence of early Simple Minds but not being tied to it.
The greatest of bands ❤️❤️❤️
Int it brill, a man can make the World smile? Luvya Jim! I was dancing in the 80's. Thank you!
Seen them in Glasgow last week and they were absolutely amazing since I last saw them in 1987. Will be there when they come back.
Still smashing it brilliant 👍
So great to see this.
Yip what I would expect just absolutely brilliant lots of great memories from the 80s👊🏻
Fantastic sound and camera work. Well done, sir!
Good god are the 3rd rate U2 still at it
Thanks very much. Glad you enjoyed it. It was a terrific show. Never anything third rate about Simple Minds. Wonderful songs.
PRO quality, far above youtube standards. As for U2, they are an 80s band. Simple Minds came from the 70s, the last and most creative decade in music.
Chills.....still ! F awesome
merci..superb
Oui, un super groupe et un super concert
Great video! 🎉 cannot wait to see the band live in Milan and Rome 🇮🇹 💙
Great work thank you
A wonderful performance. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks Peter, like you I film concerts for the future, imagine if we filmed some our favourite shows in the early 80’s thanks for the future memories.💚
How I'd love to have videos from those 80's concerts. Even stills to jolt this dreadful memory of mine. Sometimes I don't even remember seeing a band and then come across the ticket stub. Despite what some people say about concert recordings, I do go back and watch them again (and again). Thanks for commenting.
Sister Feeling Call one of my favourite Albums - would of killed to see Themes of Great Citys Live....please come back 2025
Yes, I've always loved that album too. 'Themes for Great Cities' was a terrific inclusion.
Bloody brilliant
Yes, a great gig. Very happy to finally see them again and many, many years.
Just watched excellent 7 songs would liked to have heard more
Thanks! They sound great I’m so Looking forward to next week when they come to Perth! I Cannee wait!
Fingers crossed you don't have to wait too long. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for sharing ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for sharing! Jim, Charlie and team timeless as ever - operating as a melodic masterpiece. Simple Minds have been part of my life since the early 80s with the Sparkle in the Rain album and sonically gifted Waterfront and Up on the Catwalk. Love from Canada.
Glad you enjoyed the video. The whole band were really good. I haven't seen them since the early 80's and this performance took me right back to my youth. Thanks for commenting.
The energy in this was brilliant ! I was so happy to see ! They were fantastic !
Yep, it was a great performance.
Roll on the Glasgow hydro concert in march 🎸🎤💃🕺💚💚💚
Enjoy Glasgow. I know you will.
I cannot wait, coming up from Barnsley for the Friday nite show.

@@daverobson4967 So how was? All that you'd hoped?
Theme for Great Cities!! Wonderful. Hunter and Hunted- wish OMD was here. Thanks CCP
Yes, sadly we missed out on OMD when the previous tour was cancelled. What a double that would have been.
Just brilliant - thankyou xxx
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for commenting.
Brilliant but 19:20 OMG incredible
Thanks for posting. Went to second show at SOH . Brilliant.
🎉 bellissimo !!! Thanks for posting wowwww cant wait for them ti come back (sorry 😁) in Europe!!
Awesome, Thank You!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for commenting.
Love this. 🎶❤🎶
I’ve been following this Simple Minds tour down under and what stands out is how much the the band seem to be enjoying playing live in concert
Btw. I don’t know of any other big bands these days playing 2 shows in one day like they have done here in Sydney
Yes, reports from all their performances have been terrific. They certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves during this show. I was a little worried with two shows in one night, that we'd get 'short changed'. But looking at the other setlists from their other solo concerts, I see we got the full show. Melbourne got one song extra but that hardly counts. Two full shows in one night with less than an hour in between really is something special.
Still sound great after 40 odd years
La batterista è una forza della natura, incastonata in un gruppo formidabile, i miei cari simplex minds
Seen them loads of times in concert can't wait for Birmingham gig uk still got it great live band too
You'll love it.
Roll on 24th March Nottingham uk 🇬🇧 forgot how many seen these now 60 still love the simpleminds now my grandson big fan can't wait
Is your grandson going with you? I love it how music lives from one generation to the next. Enjoy Nottingham.
@Peter_LiveMusic yes my friend I'm 60 and rocco 14 been brought up on simpleminds ,u2, tears for fears ,queen he's now massive simpleminds fan and what he doesn't know we have front row seats can't wait
@@bigsteve2665 How was it? Did your grandson have a great time?
@Peter_LiveMusic it was fantastic followed simpleminds since my teens now nearly 60 rocco couldn't believe how how good they was and managed to get a drum stick signed off cherisse osei night and gig simply awsome as always
@@bigsteve2665 Oh wow! Sounds like an unforgettable night. I'm sure your grandson was thrilled to get the drumstick. She is an incredible drummer. I didn't notice her for the first few songs but that was because just how great she is. Without drawing attention to herself, all the songs hang on her playing. I've taken more time watching her in this video and it's very apparent just how good she is. A drum stick to treasure.
Thanks for sharing. Going the Ao arena Manchester on 16th March to see them. They still sound great 👍
I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Jim's voice is as good as ever, and it's a very tight band who really know their stuff. Thanks for commenting.
Bientôt mon Tour au Zenith de Dijon...le 15 avril !! J' ai hâte !!😊
Je espère que vous l'apprécierez !!
Brilliant!
So good seeing them again.
They Sound and look awesome
See you in Stockholm ❤
19 mins in 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼😎
Nice recording. I saw the second show and I thought Jimmy struggled at times through the set. Two shows in the one night is nuts. Still enjoyed it though, such a special band and Charlie Burchill is a stunning guitar player.
Professional musicians who has defied time sounds still awesome 👌
It would be easy to be negative, but wow, some of those tunes sounded as good as they ever have. This looked a lot more intimate than the NZ concerts I've seen on TH-cam, which looked a bit underwhelming. I'm a bit disappointed i didn't make the trip to Melbourne now.
Thank you for recording and sharing this
They used backing tracks. Guitars aren’t being played.
@@needleontherecord Right, that is a shame then. I also thought Jim was miming at one point, but it was probably all the backing singers filling in.
But let's be honest it's been over 30 years since they were in their prime (maybe 40 years), so it's more about nostalgia at this point - and there's nothing wrong with that.
Tremenda banda
Damn i didnt even know they were touring i woukd have been there FOR SURE 😢😢😢
Sorry, you missed them. As far as I'm concerned, the only good use of social media is to keeping on top of who's touring.
Peter guitar beat gives relief from world
I was there and my highlight was "Theme for Great Cities" - thank you for a great capture so I am reliving the performance. Curious to know what you are recording on?
It was a wonderful night, and yes, "Theme for Great Cities" was definitely a highlight. Glad I caught it. I use a small Sony point and shot. Decent quality but easy enough to hide in my pocket.
@@Peter_LiveMusic I also use a Sony but it died and now on Iphone which I find poor quality. Keen to know which model as looking at my next purchase.
@@dimibartolillo3056 Sorry for slow reply. I have a RX100 VI which isn't being made anymore. It is still possible to get the VII but production of that has ceased as well. It is also expensive. It would appear the major companies are not interested in producing compacts at the moment. My camera died on me a few months ago, and like you, I was faced with deciding what to do. I looked at some other brands, and while much cheaper, I wasn't totally convinced with reported quality. Thankfully, I was able to get my VI repaired. It cost me slightly more than I'd hoped but I decided I'd rather stay with what I know. It has been a terrific little camera. I just hope it lasts me a few more years yet. Iphones don't appeal to me at all. Good luck with your search. Let me know what you settle with.
@@Peter_LiveMusic Thank you good to know. Mine is the Sony DSC WX500 which has stopped working and it's not as expensive as the RX1000 VI or VII but getting there. I may try to look at getting it fixed, am currently using my iPhone and it's ordinary - you don't get the depth and resolution. Let's see how I go...
Jim Kerr is a very good highlander!
Good drummer the got in the band now, fresh blod in the nice band. 👍
Yes, great drummer.
Sounds the same as they did in the 1980s. His voice is just as young
Yes, still sounding great.
Hello Peter ,
Thank you for uploading this concert .
SMF ---> Simple Minds Forever I always say .
What about the Kyeboard Woman , Berenice Scott ? She was not there ?? I also hope you enjoyed the concert . Greetings from Germany
She's been replaced.
It was a terrific concert. Such a long time since I last saw them. Erik Ljunggren is the band's new keyboard player. First live performance with them was in New Zealand. He knows his stuff. In fact, the whole band was excellent. Thanks for commenting.
@@John-r9x5hObviously got on the wrong side of Jim, joins the very long list of replaced band members...
Replaced by erik ljunggren
Best live band on the planet.
Missing MacNeil, Gaynor and Forbes
SIMPLE MINDS = SIMPLY THEE BEST ALWAYS HAVE BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE
Yes, Charlie's good
jadore
Love the drummer she is so in sync
She was so good that I didn't even notice her at first. And I mean that in the best of ways.
👍🤩🎉🎉🎉 WHAT A BLAST
L😍VE IT❣️😍🌈🌈🌈
The Amazing Grace rendition caught me off guard !
I think it caught a lot of people off guard. But having watched this video several times, I now thing it's a nice interlude.
See you at Le Mans !
can someone tell me why they sing ' amazing Grace ' , is it a statement ?
I like the new keyboard player who you can hear more than the blonde girl they previously had playing with them
Yes, I was impressed by him. He's mastered those songs very quickly.
Notice your singers like wearing red
Was each gig only 30~ minutes?
No, as I wrote in my description, there were 16 songs (in both performances - although not exactly the same), so the shows were a little over 90 minutes each. Not exactly long shows, but considering the band was on stage for over three hours that night, not too bad either.
BMGさん国内盤出して日本に呼んでくださいよ~
He sounds like Vic Reeves, Pub singer.
New keyboard player, hiding in the dark there?
erik ljunggren
Yes, he was good, especially considering how long he'd been with them. I wish I could have zoomed in on him a little more.
Poor old soul 🗝️
👏👏👏👏💯💯💯❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😎😎😎🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈
Too old to tour
See you in mantova jim......!!!!!
What a come back of one of the greatest bands. 🔥🔥🔥🔥⚡️⚡️⚡️
Great gig, thanks for sharing
Thanks for commenting. Yes a terrific gig.
Great Gig i am going Show to Berlin Uber Arena 👍🎸🎸🎸
Just saw them tonight in St Kilda. Awesome. Still the best band in the world.
I was there as well. Absolutely brilliant. They still have it. It was great they played all the early stuff.
Youth brought back now 62
Great job filming that Peter! Excellent
Thanks very much. It was a terrific concert.
I was at the same venue last night in very similar seats and was stopped from videoing (always a risk). I suppose I was very lucky to get all this footage.
Jim Kerr is one of the last really performers! Saw Simple Minds last Tuesday in Luxembourg.
Hahaha, nearly lost his bollox. Admire youu Jim!
