This is part of why Billy always talks down abut D'Arcy and James as musicians because his version of perfection was so much higher than others and why he played most if not all of the string parts on the early albums. The only reason he did not have issue with Chamberlin was because Billy is not a very good drummer by his own admission so he was always fond of Jimmy as a musician.
@Hectic Von kaos Nope. My opinion. Have heard Pumpkins? Its very original drumming. Especially first few albums. 1. Chamberlin 2. Moon 3. Grohl 4. Carey

4:41 I've listened to this song on the record at least 1000 times and have always been amazed by the guitar. I've read Billy/Butch layered something 40 guitar tracks together to make this solo - some of which used an E-bow. I'm super impressed with how well he played it here, live, with a single guitar.
There are two guitars and some effects that are helping get that sound, but it comes down to the fact that Billy and James are great guitarists and play well together.
Billy's performance in this entire show and especially during this song shows how damn talented he and the rest of the band is/was. Loved this album when it came out and still do today.
Soma and Mayonaise have always been my 2 favourite songs from Siamese Dream and probably between all SP songs. With the addition of Thru The Eyes Of Ruby from Mellon Collie.
Yeup. David, I totally agree. Mayonaise is great, but Rhinoceros and Soma just hit me deep. See you in June...and the guitar/lyrics of Soma. Much love to this band, man. I love how they take me back in a heartbeat. Glad to be far from there.
It sounds pretty much like the record. Great live band they were. I love how Soma keeps building up to the big release. Great dynamics. I definitely have to get the Siamese Dream vinyl.
Re-discovered the Pumpkins one of these days, after listening to them up and down in the 90s. I'm blown away once again by the greatness of the Siamese Dream songs...clearly one of the best rock albums ever. And Billy on guitar!? Oh my...most underrated shredder I can think of.
All I have left to do Is run away from you... Close your eyes and sleep Don't wait up for me... Hush now don't you speak to me... The opiate of pain Is your broken heart.. I'm all by myself As I've always felt... I'll betray myself To anyone... The lyrics to this song are friggin' amazing!!! It's a distorted lullaby
Still my favourite Pumpkins song. I love the big stuff like Today, Quiet, Zero, Bullet, Disarm etc, but this is the one I always finish with, I always find myself coming back to this one.
Oh my god this song is everything! Ive been listening to them since I was 9. How do I not remember this song? Its like a dream! I love love the melody of it. Wow this is a gem 😀
Show some respect. The dude practically recorded the entire album by himself (minus drums of course). I don't get people who write a band off because of the vocals, which is just a fragment of the process. There's tons of mediocre singers throughout rock. You're too shallow to understand the greatness of this.
I had a dubbed cassette tape of this album back in the early 90s. And I used to listen to it all the time when I was passing out. But it would always cut off bc the tape would end half way through the guitar solo of the song Soma. I never got to hear how the song ended until maybe last year. And the rest of the album. It was just those first 6 and a 1/2 songs.
It would of been amazing to be at this show I would of been10 and would of remembered every minute I also had the cd. I went2 a show in 2020 in Atlanta and I don't remember one bit, strikingly a perfect night.

Unfortunate what music has become. If I’ve been given one insane sane thing out of this Dante’s Inferno, it’s the Rock n Roll of my Era. The Sins of War have taken my Soul. Nothing can Rape my Mind of Old School Rock n Roll
Superb! The song they opened live somewhere in the south of the States the day Cobain's suicide broke. Appropriate. Was mildly surprised the band did not cancel that show out of respect for Billy's friend Kurt. And for Courtney. But also much respect for going on and playing regardless. Anyway, such a great song and a tremendous performance of Soma here.
I love his part. And almost every video of them playing it live, the camera never switches to cover him. (Which always makes me a bit disappointed.) Both parts are amazing, but the way they complement each other is other-worldly. Such a great song. Truly one of my faves by them.

Siamese Dream is in my top 5 albums of all time, and this is my favorite track from that album. The 90’s was a great time for music, and frankly the last time that music felt important, artistic, with a slight pretentious edge to it. Everything since the late 90’s on, is corporate bullshit.
