Showing up is critical. I started doing weekly streams three years ago for the sole purpose of making myself show up and practice, or at least THINK about practicing, once a week. It took almost that WHOLE three years for "showing up" to stop being a struggle.
All of these are great advice. They're the same things that have been helpful for me, mostly... I still have trouble with finishing, but it's mostly because of "know what you did wrong" - I get to a point where I can't do what I want to do, so I figure out what the issue is, and then I put the piece away while I back up to whatever fundamental I need to work on for that piece.
And I'm trying to learn EVERYTHING at once, so in any given session I have to pick one thing to care about and leave everything else to be something I fix later. Right now I have four major unfinished pieces; one because of complex drapery, one because I need to be better at drawing hands, one because I don't do so good at drawing buildings, and one because it has some fairly dramatic lighting. I will probably get the ones with the buildings and lighting done first, but that one with the hands might take several years.
One of the things about "have fun" is that a lot of the time, what's stressful or boring about art is that you are trying to do too many things at once. Knowing what the fundamentals are lets you pick one and say "I don't actually care about the rest of it, I am just going to work on values here." When you focus enough on something that you understand and can make progress with, the stress goes away and it stops being boring.

Thanks for making this, I have recently got back into art, after not doing it for about a decade. I got a degree in it, and I was so burned out from it because of grades and comparing myself with others that I just stopped. But I have got back into it the last 6 or so months. And I love it. Part of me wishes I had kept up with it for the last decade. 😅 I could be so much further along!

Unrelated to video topic but is that throne of glass fanart? Reminds me a ton of Aelin and Rowan fanart. Regardless it’s really pretty!

Thank you for making this, Ana! 🩷 I recently got my first drawing tablet and I finished my first drawing. I think it looked decent & I posted it on Tumblr. 😭 I can't lie I felt a bit embarrassed & didn't realize how vulnerable you feel when you put out something so sensitive as your artwork for public acknowledgement & critique. Throughout the whole time of me making the digital art I kept asking for advice from my little sister, "Does it look okay?". But then it switched to, "Should I just stop trying?", "I wish I could just skip to being good at art.", "There's people younger than me making better art...Am I too late to get better...?" But I realized WHO CARES. 😭 Art is meant to be enjoyed not constantly judged upon.
You did PHENOMENAL with this piece! ❤❤ The line-art, rendering, the concept & posing. CHEF'S KISS 💋👌🏽
