Highlights from two days fishing and spearing the Great Barrier Reef & the Whitsunday Islands.
We encountered some major trouble when our Minn Kota electric motor powered off with us whilst spearfishing. A very close call and we were fortunate it happened near the islands and not on the reef. Big shout out to Benny Crisp and his crew for saving the day! :)

I love the smell of petrol in tha mornin'! 🤣 Love ya work JC! Ya sqeeze in a shout-out for Stewie, catch a bunch of fish, a few Crays and then only you could finish by losing your boat and toss in a plug in for the berserkers at the same time!! 🤣Lucky the boys were waiting around to rescue you... Super glad that you're all safe...

Very very lucky Boys, the law is never to leave the boat alone, which is always obvious after an incident but until you have something like this actually happen then tech seems the answer, it's like we are legends in Ground tackle anchoring gear because it is too easy to end up dead with no one knowing how did it happen, So glad you got to meet new friends sharing your passion and that is what life is all about, people show up in your life when the need is high and they were meant to cross your path.

life is good when you get a warning of what could happen without the rest.
and your sharing it is so valuable because it could be anyone any time. So have you got much on over Christmas like maybe Going Fishing LMAO. Hey Johnny, in your experience do you believe sharks are more dangerous if you go closer to the edges and less if you go up onto the flats like you seem to do?
and by dangerous I also mean numbers or types/ species of sharks? just something I have wondered, because I would think the edges are probably undiveable because of the current as well@@johnnychowjc

Great video Johny. I was only sitting on the outter a few weeks ago and had a thought cross through my mind, what would happen to someone relying on spot lock while diving and have it cut out..
my minKota will often just drop off spot lock, I never had it fault and go full steam in any direction so that is absolute worst case what you went though mate!

Never leave the boat with the Minn Kota on spot lock or any other brand of electronic anchoring system. I can't count how many times I have been locked on a spot fishing and the unit has malfunctioned. I use my Minn Kota every time I go out and I would estimate that 25% of days the unit needs to be turned off and on again at some point due to a malfunction. I have owned several Minn Kotas and a Motorguide and it has been the same with every unit, they just cannot be trusted if you are leaving the boat unattended.
