Mates at the start of this story I thought to myself “no way Rocko strikes again!!!! Classic Rocko” thinking to myself if you knew the area you wouldn’t be surprised if it had been stolen. The fact that nobody grabbed it before it drifted off the beach is crazy. Then the cops? FFS!!! Garden island isn’t that bad but it adds to the story. There are BBQs on it and you can land in certain north eastern beaches. Awesome that you got it back!!!!! Hey I wonder if the navy saw it but because of the colour (same as their ships) they thought it was theirs. Bloody love your story telling
Wow ! Great sleuthing, and a big dollop of luck finding the tender. Never underestimate the ability for people to be completely obtuse and uninterested in other people's misfortune. Great episode, and thanks for the recap. Onwards !!
This story of loosing your tender and loosing faith in humanity is all too familiar while my parter and I were living in Bunbury for 10 years. Happy to report we are living in Adelaide now and all faith in humanity has been restored. Glad you guys were able to retrieve your Highfield!
Haha just saw my in-laws catamaran in the background 14:51 there “SV Arabella - Paul & Rose”. Paul mentioned he saw you guys and gave you some crayfish 🦞 when you guys were in Rockingham. Spewing about you losing your tender, we feel ya! Ours tender was tied to the back of our boat at Magnectic Island and drifted all 11 nm. We even bought another tender the day after and our old one was found 3 days later 🤦🏼♀️ Love watching your adventures guys! Keep up the amazing channel 🤙 Heidi - Sv Pacific Star (now sold)
Oh no way! They were lovely, and the cray was very much enjoyed at a dinner with our mates, 😋 so they also say thanks! (this was the night before the tender went missing, haha, not the fateful night) Oh no way! yeah we are sleeping with two tethers on the tender now😂 we were heartbroken when we lost it. It's so great you got yours back, though!! and thanks for your comment🦞🙂
Congratulations on winning the bet to make an episode with the most ever mentions of the word “tender”. And congratulations on the safe return of the “Love me Tender”.
Just found you guys! What a joy to hear and see your happy enthusiasm as you splash your way around your home country. I'm totally unfamiliar with the Australia's coastal geography and I'm enjoying your history lessons as well as your Aussie accents and colloquialisms. I'm a Yank from the Pacific Northwest with some west coast sailing experience. Come visit our neck of the woods some day.
Truly breath taking, loosing your tender makes for a anxious experience. So HAPPY Slim was able to escape the shark and retrieve your transportation. Grand episode!
Love you kids! So sorry about your tender. My faith in others would have been shaken too. Try to not let it change you. WooHoo, you got it back! Safe travels. ❤
Great episode guys! Especially the turn of emotions finding your tender. It would have been fun to hear the conversation in the “control” room on Garden Island. There’s little doubt they tracked you right up to when you trespassed!! I’m glad they left you alone. And all of a sudden the crew of Nakama were happy again. Good news. Every sailor should do the Safety and Sea Survival Course!
Bahaha, the pool inflatable! We rocked one of those for a season, wouldn't recommend it! And we don't have sharks so.. Another great vid you guys, cheers to finding the tender!
As a sailor with an inflatable tied on the back of my boat right now, you had me on the edge of my seat with this little misadventure. My empathy set on high
What a great episode. Was totally mesmerised and impressed how you expressed your frustration. Can’t believe no one secured it, regardless of why it became untied, it’s disappointing no one stepped up. Glad it’s safely home.
Yeah I mean, we fully own it and can't stress enough that it was no one's fault but our own, but that didn't change our disappointment when multiple people told us they saw it floating into and against the jetty for a decent period of time before it inevitably missed the jetty and went on its merry lil adventure out to sea.
The public can access Garden island in multiple locations, boat access only. Picnic/bbq areas available etc. Beautiful spots. Glad you found your tender.
Excellent recap video. Thankfully you found the dinghy as that would have been a tragic loss (financially) Luckily Slimm didn't end up in the military Jailhouse. Even though you had the crab traps to watch for you seemed to have a great sail south bound. Looking forward to next video. My wife and I have just returned from our break so I'm in catch up mode. cheers
Always tie your tender to something or stick the anchor in the sand. I also attach a second line at night when the tender is at the back of the boat in case the main line chafes through. Glad you got lucky and got it back.
So Slim was trespassing on Government property?? haha. Glad you got your tender back; had I known, I could have got some mates who work there have a look around but using the kiddie raft added to story. Love your videos guys.
I was stuck half way to shit creek with out a tender on Magnetic island . I waited on the beach asked someone for lift to my boat. And gave the fella some homemade salumi for his kind gesture. It's moments like these that make sailing so special .
So glad you found your tender and i am disappointed the authorities didnt go out when notified, you would hate to think what may have happened if that had been someone falling out of it
Oh my god guys!!!! I would’ve felt the same about no one trying to help out tying off the dinghy etc, guess they’re not yachties 😏 we popped our brand new high field trying to set up a stern anchor late one night, only 2 weeks after getting it and we were both so so devastated, it was like getting a brand new car and smashing it up 2 weeks later. We ended up patching it and got over it eventually but it was sad, so I can only imagine how you guys felt and I’m so happy you got her back!! Since we’ve been in the Caribbean we pop out an anchor when we pull up on the beach now…just incase 😅
Hi Legends, get a couple of cans of scotchguard, then spray on new wet weather gear, it will protect it really well. I've used it on tents, jackets, boots etc ok. Glad ur both still living the dream, be safe. Luv yas💯🇦🇺🤘
Slim & Soph, our favorite couple who have ever taken us on a circumnavigation of Australia. Such an adventure!! You should have 1,000K subs. Great episodes. Cheers!
Slim Soph …another cracking episode 👏🏻👏🏻..those cray pots are a real menace …we have just followed in your footsteps cruising down the west coast Darwin to Fremantle ….mind you we did it with 2000 of our closest boomer friends in a humongous cruise ship 😂😂😂……we were stunned by the at the breathtaking scenery , the massive tidal range and beautiful beaches ….all the while marvelling at your extraordinary efforts in the good ship Nakama ……your adventures continue to inspire 👍👍
Amazing, that would have been such a fantastic trip, yeah probably a lil more comfy than on wee lil Nakama haha, she has done well to get us down that coast!
Finding your ding gone is indeed one of life’s moments of a truly sinking feeling in the pit of one’s stomach, it sucks sooo bad. In our case a kind old bloke offered us the use of his empty running mooring because of the tidal range and a rocky foreshore with a gnarly stone quay to tie to as the option. We didn’t know that the outhaul was only attached to a virtually completely rusted through ring at it’s outboard end and the true condition of the attachment to the quay wall was not apparent either. The weather picked up as the tide was ebbing. We found it the next day, the crap beaten out of it by being smashed on the rocks at the bottom of a cliff all night. The outboard skeg and prop were toast and it occupied a couple of days patching up the bottom with a LOT of f’glass but, miracle of miracles, the tubes survived though I have no idea how. I’ve never trusted anyone else’s mooring since, even if they’re a lovely old boy with a guernsey sweater, paint stained trousers tucked into his fisherman’s wellies and smoking a pipe. Glad you got both it and it’s motor back in one piece, without getting yourselves either lead plugged or had up on an espionage charge. 😁👍🍻
Sometimes you just put it down to sheer luck. I’d put an AirTag on it under the seat just in case someone does take it next time. Looking forward to your Southern Ocean run.
Always good when you find something you've lost. Congratulations on the Viking life raft, it's a great company, and good kit, I do a lot of work with them. 😊
Enjoyed your video, however, did you try 000 and marine rescue. The are multiple volunteer groups in the sound including Rockingham, they would have likely helped straight away..besides the obvious also take a portable VHF ashore with you and put out a call for assistance or let other boaties know to keep a look out. safe travels
Great episode as per usual Loosing Highfield would've been like loosing Wilson, it would've been gut wrenching. Sooo good you got it back & didn't get eaten by a shark or shot or arrested for trespassing 😂 Boat maintenance seems like a never ending task Love this Adventure Cheers
haha yeah was pretty freaky with the shark nibbling on the paddles, I wish I had a go pro with me haha, very happy with how it all turned out in the end though, and yes the boat work is a constant. For the most part, it's all good, but we are just constantly trying to improve her. Each coastline of Australia has its own unique conditions and challenges, so before we set off on each new coast line, we generally make some upgrades to make our lives a little easier/ safer in the new waters. by the end of the Lap she will be the perfect boat to sail around Australia in haha
Those oars were the most sus thing ever! they were plastic and twisted together, so after every 2 strokes, the paddle would unscrew itself from the handle via the pressure of the stroke. If you tried to row too hard (like when a shark was biting at your paddles), the paddle would bend, and you would lose all your power so there was a real sweet spot you had to hit to get any momentum😂, sloww and steady. I wouldn't trust them in a pool, was a bit of a open water mission to the land too as Nakama had to sit so far offshore avoiding the fringing reef.
I bet your heart jumped outta your chest when you see that shark slim!, but i bet the survival of that moment was immediately appeased once you jumped back into your long lost tender 😂👍👍
Congrats on falling in love with your rescued tender again... There's always an up side... The Kmart tender would make a great bath of paddling pool in the cockpit...
Wow, a tender, heartbreaking story with a good ending. I was going to try to work tenderizer into a joke but didn't happen. Remind me to always have an extra rope on my tender please !

Not only do you not have to order another tender, but you don't have to buy another 15 hp outboard motor! So glad you recovered them both safely. Maybe you could put some sort of GPS beacon or something in the tender that will allow you to locate it? Every day at sea is a school day, right?
Always learning, haha yeah we were especially worried as you cant buy the old 2 strokes anymore and we love them! our outboard was such a score it would have been hard and not cheap to get our hands on another one!
Hi Guys, The leaking toilet shaft… the new lip seal you used has a 304 stainless spring in it which rusts out pretty quickly…and it’s back to leaking…replace it with an o’ring which lasts heaps longer…and from time to time lubricate the shaft with vaselene…
That was so tragically funny that I had to watch the dinghy rescue twice (sorry) 🤪. I used to be in the Navy and can't believe that the security patrols didn't find your tender. Garden Island (West) is the largest naval base in Australia btw and coincidentally the Largest naval base in the East is also called Garden Island . Love your vids guys
That would have been gut-wrenching returning to no dinghy, especially after the cost of recently replacing your life raft. And them fishing people would be called Anglers. Id write a strongly worded letter to the anglers association about them
Indeed, I'm very lucky; the reefs don't freak me out, but this thing was a proper one, a juvenile proper one thankfully, but it had a decent crack at my paddles. Not sure what it was though as it was only at the surface for very breig periods. If it had hit the dingy itself, it would have toppled me for sure. Oh, how I wish I had a GoPro with me. It was wild!
OMG, I'm upset at you guys. I'm glad you found your tender, but I laughed my a _ _ off, and now I'm out in the neighborhood looking for it. You guys are so much fun. Hang in there while I find my a _ _ and I'll see you next week. Stay safe.
@@SlimandSophSailingNakama I was on the edge of my seat until you found it. I know how mutch it means to you. I watched you driving it in the Kimberlies, It is your incredible presentation of the facts and the whole situation that was heartwarming and made me laugh. You guys are great.

People watching your tender float away is perfect example of the bystander effect: everyone thinks someone else will deal with it.

Love the biting down on the rope for 'special' security. I wonder how close to shore he got before the "What am I biting this for?" moment.

Frothing for you as you find and recover your Highfield with the pool inflatable and dodgy yellow oars. 😅
Thrilling episode. Thanks for sharing. 🍻

Hey Guys we just love your journey as so glad to see you found your tender well done
Cheers Dave we were over the moon.
Great episode with brilliant outcome. Looking forward to next weeks vid also
Wow, a tender, heartbreaking story with a good ending. I was going to try to work tenderizer into a joke but didn't happen. Remind me to always have an extra rope on my tender please !
Not many people get their tender back after losing it. Well done with the search.

Fantastic video 👌. I had to go chasing after our tender in the Whitsundays a few weeks ago , such a bad feeling.
The worst feeling! hope you managed to find it
Congrats on the recovery of the dingy
