I have ALWAYS said that. Tool's music is an experience, especially through headphones. You can pick up all the little nuances! Tool fan since '92 at the bomb factory in Dallas!
I had never listened to a single Tool song until I was literally standing at one of their concerts in-person that I was 'dragged' to by my dad and it was a life changing experience that bordered on religious. Sitting right next to Maynard's side of the stage with a good view of Danny as well was just insane. Every song I saw live was my first time hearing it and this was less than a year ago as of this comment on the delayed Fear Innoculum tour (Covid delays). I'd rate the show an 11 out of 10.
If Justin’s baselines don’t get you, or adams insane guitar work, or Danny’s out of this world percussion, Maynard WILL snag you with his vocal truthism. They are all just the best.
Everyone is talking about how great Tool is, and I agree, they were my favorite band for a long time, but can we talk about how great this *video* is??! Perfectly captured the feeling of a whole bunch of people becoming Tool fans, and had me high on nostalgia thinking back to when I bought my first Tool album, Lateralus, the day it came out, and my feeling of just pure joy and awe that a band could be so good. Tool is one of those bands that just captivates you. Absolutely legendary band, and fantastic video, well done.
"His voice is SO SPECIAL"... brings tears to my eyes thinking all these people are now Tool fans!! Fucking awesome 👌 . Seriously. This is the best yt video I've seen in a while.
I’m so late to the game on these videos. Almost teared up because of how wholesome it was. My boyfriend introduced me to Tool (heard the pot and loved it but dove deep into other songs like 46&2 and WHEW, I wasn’t ready). Took me to my first show. (His 4th). And I cried and felt like I was literally at a damn church. It is the most moving, eye opening experience I’ve ever had. Everybody’s a Tool fan eventually. They’re otherworldly in the best way.
I remember hearing that song on the radio while driving somewhere with my Dad. He had lost faith in music of my generation until he heard that. We went to "The Warehouse" (if you are old enough to know, you know) and bought both albums they had out at the time. Tool literally helped me and my Father bond when I was a young man and wanted nothing to do with any kind of authority. It made me realize we were on the same shit.
Never heard of the warehouse but just music stores in general were so cool and then they started doing the listen before you buy thing too. I can't even imagine what my youth would have been like if I had even just TH-cam alone for music. There are some bands or albums that I just missed out on back then because I never saw or or couldn't find an album. Even when stuff like Napster came around, it was like, good luck finding that one obscure band or rare album you just heard of.
My favorite part about Tool and this video, is when they’re feeling it then they hit the inevitable Tool bridge and realize they’re about to go on a real fuckin musical adventure. No other band does what they do, why’ve I’ve been listening to them for 25 years.
I've been a tool fan for 20 years now and finally listened with a good set of headphones....feel like I'm hearing them for the first time. Absolutely incredible
I've been having similar experiences with my new headphones too. Changes everything. Best purchase I've made in a long time, great investment if you love music. One love ❤
That period of tool was pure art bliss. It’s pretty incredible how the band feels like there was no ego - and one goal. The instruments do exactly what’s needed in order to make the song. Incredible steady timings and tightness. Near perfect.
I love how literally everyone is just being overwhelmed by the _sheer raw furious emotion_ of this song, that emotion that puts this song _high, HIGH_ on my list of faves. (Yes, pun intended, you may shoot me.)
Thanks for the feature! What a track🔥 I’ve since started learning some of their tracks on guitar and have the 10,000 days album in a massive frame on my office wall!🙌🏻
I have lived and breathed Tool as my mental health saviour for 20 years. I have seen them three times live, and these reactions give my 62 year old soul… so much JOY! I turned my kids onto them early in their teens. I love these reactions. Welcome 🙏🏻
It makes me so happy to see so many people from all over the place loving on tool ❤️ They have air tight filming restrictions at live shows but I promise you they put on a breathe taking show.
@@AhsanKhan-eo8dv allegaeon, camel, Eloy, opeth, no more color/mental vortex era coroner, Aphrodites child (specifically the album 666), between the buried and me, to name a few. Not meaning to insult your intelligence on any band you might already know.
lol what is progressive music??? Does it break all the instruments, never records a single album or perform a single concert, no one actually listens to it, and just hates on any other music?
All of us old heads on here were taken back 30 years in the span of a few minutes. Just watching everyone experience the same thing we did back then. Feels good doesn't it?
Man, I still remember seeing the Prison Sex video on MTV the first time, I was hooked. 14 year old me got Undertow and a bunch of other cassettes for a penny from Columbia House. 😂
Fan since the beginning and it is wonderful watching people wake from a slumber they didn't even realize. Let us hope most stayed awake to be aware and remove the shackles of disillusionment.
The pot, overplayed as it is. Really is one of the best examples of how good the entire band is at their piece of the puzzle. Every single one bring something unique that’s completely necessary to this song. It’a probably why most of us newer fans heard it and fell in love immediately.
Then it has done its job and so have you. Relationship to art is subjective and personal. It is supposed to invoke responses. You've interacted with the art and it interacted with you. If only more people understood that everything is connected like this, we might all make better choices.
I been jamming to tool almost 30 years and it swells my heart to see these reactions from such a diverse group. Much love for tool fans the world over, new and old.
I figured out why this particular TOOL reaction comp is so great: Each individual is expressing pure joy, appreciation, and utter surprise by their own emotional movement by something so seemingly "sinister" on the surface. Then us, as the viewer of all, can see how this masterpiece by Tool COLLECTIVELY affects all of them and all of us the same. All different walks of life, all different pasts and different futures, but right here in the "present" we're all just vibing as one. Words not even needed. Stank face is enough. Kinda makes you think - fill a room with Red, Blue, pro-this, anti-that, arch fkn enemies, and you got total chaos and negativity. But the moment you pump some MJ "Billie Jean" or some OutKast "Hey Ya!" or straight up gnarly TOOL into the room, ain't one person who's not gonna be rockin their head to the music, vibing. Straight erasing in that moment WTF we were there to argue about in the first place. Go a step deeper, and ask yourself, "why we all so distracted by anger and fear and hatred for one another?! Who has something to gain from keeping us at each other's throats?" And you'll arrive at the answer. Hint: "How The 1% Maintain the Status Quo 101" 🪄🏛️⚖️💵💰
Just goes to show that great MUSIC doesn't have color barriers, doesnt give a shit about your background, your age or where you're from. Good music is just good music and these folks have all just been on a RIDE!
Tool's the pot is like a gateway drug for non tool fans, there's no denying how good it is, and I'd say it's a good precursor to their other music, if you like the pot, you'll like a lot of their music, but the pot is a really good place to start for new people
This song kicks ass in so many ways - the production is incredible, the playing is phenomenal, the flow of the tune, the lyrics, the attitude, the outrage - its just all one integrated, perfect thing. Incredible - and its great seeing people enjoy it for the first time.
I've listened to this song since 2006, and I *still* react to it just like these folks. Amazing song, great performances by the whole band, but The Pot for me really highlights that blistering rhythm section.
Dude! As an editor and an avid Tool fan I have wanted to put together a compilation like this of people reacting to them for the longest time but not had the time to do it. I'm so glad that you did this it is freaking awesome! Nice work Tool Army!
There is something so satisfying in seeing people experience Tool for the first time. And what I mean by experiencing is sitting down and paying attention to the music. The Pot is the perfect introduction to Tool. It's not too long or too complicated but it still catches you off guard the first time you hear it.
Nate’s reaction at 5:45 is basically how I felt the first time hearing tool. It wasn’t just the strange noises, but the realization that I didn’t even know music like this was possible. Tool can change a person.
I remember the first thing I said to my homie when he played me tool for the first time. I was just like oh you can play bass like this? Wtf am I listening to? Changed my music life forever
I will never forget being at Ozzfest and hearing Tool on a side stage early in the day, not knowing who they were and being drawn to them by the end of their set I had written in sharpie on my arm TOOL so I wouldn't forget
Maynard will tell you that he’s not a lead singer and doesn’t like to be referred as such because he says he’s just the vocalist and likes to showcase the entire band at concerts while he’s in the background!
I remember being the weird kid in high school for being a Tool fan. People generally didn’t get them and were put off by their music videos and they were very underground back then. It’s so cool to see something I grew up loving becoming something mainstream like it truly deserves to be. So awesome to see newer generations and older ones coming together and experiencing what I used to while riding on the school bus with my Sony Walkman blasting into my ears.
Same. I was considered the Tool nerd. People thought I was weird for liking them so much. But when Lateralus was released a lot of those same people started to listen to them and liking them. Now I am so glad to see so many people enjoying the experience that is Tool!
I was in high school when Undertow came out in 93, sixteen years old and I still remember hearing Sober for the first time when we were just riding around in my friend's car. Good times! 🤘🏻
I love this so much. Been a fan since '92. No, that wasn't me in a Beastie boys tee. I've always caught hell from other Black folks for listening to heavy music and this makes me smile and tear up.🤘🏾🤘🏾
Yeah, bro. I liked Opiate in '92 but then Undertow dropped in '93 and my young ass was properly blown away. Then I saw them live the same year and became a fan for life.
Nobody sounds like Tool. Nobody sounds like Pink Floyd. Nobody sounds like Rush. Another modern band to break through these sonic barriers though… Porcupine Tree. Give them a listen (Halo, Anesthetize, Blackest Eyes are all great songs of theirs)
I saw these guys in early 90's before their first album hit at the Gothic theater in Denver, I can't explain how it changed me after riff one. Life changing.
Saw them in 2020, just before the pandemic shut things down. Ive always loved tool since highschool (20 years or so ago) and was the first time i saw them in concert. The one thing i walked away thinking was that their drummer is fucking insanely good. Top 10 favorite drummers for me, possibly in the top 5
I found them two weeks ago, first week i listened to every single song, every day, all day, and I can say this band, saved my life. The music truly is in my opinion therapeutic, it really got all the bottled up emotions out for me, if I could recommend tool to anyone struggling, I would in a heart beat. I don't think the band hits nearly as hard unless you kinda "need" to hear it?
Tool saved my life once. I was getting ready to end it, tying up loose ends when i happened to listen to Parabola from Lateralus. The lyrics pulled me back from the brink. Thank you, Tool. Turns out life IS worth living, and Tool is always worth listening to ;) And in concert? S**t, they will rip your Fn face off (and you'll be glad you are alive!!!)
Im so glad you decided to stay here in this reality. 😊 Just listened to Lateralus earlier today. My best friend passed away a little more than a year ago... She was an incredible human, took mdma to try and heal herself of past traumas she was processing.. well.. it had fentanyl in it. and she died. We used to rock out to Tool in High school and in our first apartment together, and I'll never forget how she truly chose to embrace the random. Which is what you did. And you let words bring you back. ❤
@@Yourfriendinendtimes i am so, so sorry for your loss. i hope her soul, and yours, find peace. so strange, many have urged me to try mdma therapy and i have always said no because i have felt some sort of danger surrounding it. my heart breaks for you and her family. i truly hope there is a place of greater compassion and contentment once we leave this dimension of trials. your words are so kind and so deeply felt. thank you. bless you.
@@auntie-angie-2112 Thank you. It was hard but I just remember to honor what she cared and stood for and try to match some of my footsteps where hers might have gone. Its been really good for me. I started listening to Tool again about a month ago just for that reason. Yes I don't think any of these man made drugs can be safe, especially from the street. I don't know where you live but I know that there are places you can take mdma as a therapeutic treatment. I think the controlled substance is probably an ok bet. But just remember, just as we are, without substances, our minds are plastic and whatever thoughts we let pass through it become our brain's physical reality as those neurons get fired and create those pathways. Drugs like mdma and psilocybin can help along the way, but only if all the variables(that could make it dangerous) are known, accounted for and controlled where needed. Your comment back to me was so appreciated. ❤️ All the best to you on the rest of your life's journeys, friend. -Kristin
Awesome!! I'm a Gen X'er. Born in 72. We were the generation between this music and the 60s. It was a CRAZY TIME to grow up man!! There's a world of varieties of music we grew up in. You millennials, im sad for you because these days the packed arenas getting smashed are all gone. Explore and create your Gens music. The new era. Work out your political, spiritual and emotional issues with your music. Now when you wonder why in politics why the conservatives party wants to hold on to the past. America is a beautiful place. Watching you guys discover what I did 40 years ago brings tears to my eyes. Thank You so much. Try out SLAYER. Some call them satanic, but they are the ultimate garage style speed metal band from hell!! So good they were censored and never played on the radio. Because of the lyrics Take them with a grain of salt , and HANG ON
I just got into Tool a few days ago, this is so fun to watch these relations, I can totally relate. I blasted Pneuma in the car the other day and cried, what an experience. Just all the instruments, and his voice, nothing else quite like them. I effing love Tool!
I've always felt like Justin isn't appreciated enough, to me he IS the music. Adam is amazing, don't get me wrong, but mostly he's just off soloing throughout while Justin is over there being the backbone of every song. And he has some crazy good baselines just going OFF in pretty much every song. If you haven't yet you really need to give them a listen on a quality stereo with some good subs. Good headphones are decent but they're not as good as a nice surround sound system that rattles the floor. Closing my eyes and actively listening to them like that and Justin immediately becomes the focus point that all the others seem to be playing along to. Again, Adam is amazing and I love his work, but I actually think he might be the weakest part of the band. I mean no offense to him whatsoever, but think about it.
My first song of tool was Schism back then on '98 and my 15 years old mind just blew away, I loved it, then it went away for 30 years and cane back with The Pot, man what an experience, this is what music is about, to move every single cell in our body.... 💯
These reactions made my heart smile. I'm a metal head from day one and to see other people also enjoy Tool the way I do is absolutely fucking amazing! Thanks to all the reactions yall. Tool for life baby!
This is the greatest reaction compilation I have ever seen by a long shot. The tension build up is crazy and you did a great job editing. Also the compilation you did of Ram Jam "Black Betty" is great, if that clip fails to make you smile and change you day your lost.
I just have to say it. I've watched this video so many times. I've shared it on my socials. I've always been passionate about music. Many of my friends are musicians and anyone that knows me knows the love I have for the artistry of live instruments, arrangements of those instruments, lyrics, and vocals. What I love most about reaction videos is seeing someone discover a song they've never heard before. Songs from my teenage years up to now, many many years later. What I love most about this video is watching them slowly amp up, recognize how brilliant the song is and all it's parts and will never forget it. That is what music does, creates memories. You hear an old song and it brings you back. Seeing such a great compliation makes it even better so Thank You Derek.

Not a single bad reaction. Everyone enjoying the music.
Watching these vids makes me discover songs again, listen to them with "fresh" ears, and it's so fantastic.
It sucks. Nobody is listening. It's disgusting.
I've been a fan since 1995. Seen them 25 times live.
98 for me, I was 12.
Gonna see them for my first time at Louder Than Life this year and I’m fuckin hyped
Back in the day when bots didn't buy every ticket before you could check out.
i have been a fan since 1993 although I kind of rediscovered how much i liked them in early 2019 and I have listened to them every day since then.
I respectfully hate you so much. I saw tool 3 times but never when Maynard's performance was good.
I watch tool archives all the time.
Seeing people who wouldn’t normally listen to TOOL experience them for the first time is brilliant.
So an 11 out of a 10........ I take it you saw This Is Spinal tap...... If not go and enjoy.

I remember exactly when and where I heard TOOL for the first time. This video was like going back to that exact moment and I love it so much!
Hahaha, I also experienced a swell of emotion. And a tear or two. 🥲
They’re otherworldly in the best way.
thats so fkn beautiful happy for yall❤❤❤
I remember hearing that song on the radio while driving somewhere with my Dad. He had lost faith in music of my generation until he heard that. We went to "The Warehouse" (if you are old enough to know, you know) and bought both albums they had out at the time. Tool literally helped me and my Father bond when I was a young man and wanted nothing to do with any kind of authority. It made me realize we were on the same shit.
The Warehouse! “Listen before you buy” was the best. So many hours and first-job-money spent there
Amen 🙏
I went to the warehouse as a teen in California mid 80s. Best music store
Yep. Sacramento, 1980’s and 90’s. We’d go there if Tower Records was out of stock.
My favorite part about Tool and this video, is when they’re feeling it then they hit the inevitable Tool bridge and realize they’re about to go on a real fuckin musical adventure. No other band does what they do, why’ve I’ve been listening to them for 25 years.
You gotta try The Ocean, their last 3 albums are out of this world, man.

That period of tool was pure art bliss. It’s pretty incredible how the band feels like there was no ego - and one goal. The instruments do exactly what’s needed in order to make the song. Incredible steady timings and tightness. Near perfect.

Who has something to gain from keeping us at each other's throats?"
And you'll arrive at the answer.

It's a beast line for sure.
