Hey! If you’re new here, you can catch up with my fairly recent journey into metal using this playlist : th-cam.com/play/PLZjk4aZ2IbGW5hIibnlT2xWtRPHlSvAq4.html&si=QVe3byUOigJLI_Mv - it’s all in chronological order so you can see me go through it again like you were here when it started. I hope you enjoyed this one! Be sure to leave your suggestions in the comments and I’ll have them done for you soon enough! 🫶
bro Sleep Token Ascensionism thank me later
Alice in Chains is a must - start with Down in a Hole Unplugged
Play 46 an 2 first thing in the morning during a shower, this song right after .. 😁👍
This is nice of you to put together fwiw.
Tool - Sober (Live)
"How are we not even halfway through this track, yet?"
This is a short Tool song.
Maybe it's time for 7empest? 😂
That's not what it felt like after actually finishing it, lol. awesome.
Lmao. HELLUV short. That may be the ONLY downside of any Tool song. Not even 7empest is long enough. I never want them to end.
@@Sky14318Hello, my long lost twin. 😂
Saw them in Dallas Friday night. 11 songs - 2 1/2 hours 😂
As a black guy from the Deep South who grew up listening to trap music and hardcore rap. I can honestly say Tool is my favorite music group of all time
Hell ya brother! Love people who give different music a chance. 🤘
Hell ya man!
Love people who give different genres a listen. 🤘 🙏
Who else is super jealous this is his first time hearing these Tool songs? Seeing this reaction brings back memories of the first time I heard. It's such an experience.
YES!!!!!
Absolutely bro I would give anything to get a Men in Black light so I could experience that again
Agree
He should try a live concert
I'd be much more excited if it was any other album... as a rap fan he should have listened to something off of opiate.
Lifelong Tool fan here. I never get tired of seeing folks getting introduced. The eyes opening, the light bulbs firing up... Thank you.
"skip ahead I don't care" as he restarts the track.... This guy gets it
Yup. Priceless!!
I was like noooooo, don’t start it over. I guess he gets it a lot in the comments.
Average TOOL fan
Wait till he realizes what the words actually mean
@@cdxxz4452 😂 ....wait for it....
I genuinely believe it will be 30 years from now and I'll still get excited to watch people discovering Tool for the 1st time.
Same here
Word
Yup!
Been here since the start. And it gets me everytime! lol. It’s like watching an adult birth.
Tool army bro. We all love it
Imagine getting to experience Tool for the first time. Man I’m jealous. 😅
Scrolled way to far for this. The first time you heard schism…
@@chrisrodman7928 20 years ago maybe. Still amazing. You should listen to Right in Two. One of the greatest build-ups in a song ever.
Every album is like that
Exactly. 😂
I mean.. you have, that is why you have heard of them. ;)
I understand where you're coming from though. Tool played some crazy parts in my psychedelic days.
Tool is a band that happened to be a bunch of dudes who just happened to be the very best in the world at what they each do.... and they just happened to find eachother. This is what we got. This is what we deserved.
Idk about best at their respective instruments. But the best at what they do with the music they create. Adam uses so many different guitars to record for specific sounds, which is something I've found to be very unique to just him as a guitarist
@@KingOfLegends23-qb7myagreed. Maybe not best* in a traditional sense. I was in a band that covered a lot of tool and as a guitarist it was really eye opening to dissect the songs. Adam isn’t known for being some unbelievable guitarist, but his playing is extremely underrated. One of the few guitarist that focus more on the whole picture rather than his part. After learning and playing their songs you know more than ever, 99% of the listeners don’t realize how intricate and meticulously crafted these songs are.
@@NinjasAreRealTho Oh, yeah, absolutely. Everyone focuses on Danny and Justin and while I respect that, both Maynard and Adam are pretty underrated. As a vocalist who, coincidentally, dissected and learned their songs from a vocal stand point these two absolute vital to tying everything together to make the experience what it is
The best… that meet Maynard. He is the true orchestrator of this mass of genius
What a excellent explanation of the band Tool.
One thing i love about Tool is that every member has a solo
The other thing I love about Tool is that they play them all at the same time
Word! Spot on mate😂
@@halodax😂
Great description of tool.
Hahahaha YES!
This is why i didn't like the last album. Spent the whole time waiting for a maynard "solo" like the grudge or something. Then the album ended :/. His voice just aint the same
Wow this dude has almost a quarter million followers BEFORE diving into Tool? This channel is about to EXPLODE as the Tool Army arrives
Reporting for duty!🫡
Yup!!!
I was thinking the same lol
Flanking the side, sir!
Helloooo
I started out as a little girl headbanging to the Undertow cassette tape in my parents' truck, and grew into a teenager both fearing and admiring Tool's lyrics. Now as a grown woman, nothing brings a bigger smile to my face than seeing someone hearing Tool for the first time and seeing that beautiful mixture of bewilderment, pleasant shivers, and "What the fuck am I listening to". Rock on, man.
There always seem to be a correlation between people who discovered Tool way younger than they probably should have and being able to use language in an impactful and artful way 😂. Well said
I recently saw Tool in concert and can confidently say they sound exactly the same live. They put so much effort into their music.
Saw them in Toronto not too long ago and I agree entirely, absolutely fantastic.
I've got the pleasure of seeing them this June, never seen them live before but been a fan for many years. Cannot wait...
I literally was gonna say the same thing. Seen them in Toronto back in September and it was incredible, even despite being badly hungover. Lol. Incredible show.
Saw them 3 times in 4 days in October 23. Epic every time.
I saw them in January in Atlanta!
The spatial soundscape they created with the audio engineering for this song actually won them a Grammy
Didn't know that. Love me some tool though.
I didn't know that, I'm deaf from one ear so I don't have any spatial sound awareness, everything sounds in the same direction for me.
And this song is already a master piece for me.
@TheShapingSickness my friend is as well. On speakers you'll be able to hear it still as the one ear will still pick up the change it just won't be as intense.
they won one for pneuma too, best composition i believe
Pneuma's composition is really fucking good@@rosa-gw1xm
Don’t EVER apologize for rewinding a Tool track…
Took me a week to get all the way through Pneuma because of rewind.
I have watched an embarrassing amount of Tool reactions since the pandemic and all...This is definitely the best one.
I agree wholeheartedly, I really loved it. I think one of the reasons I like watching music reactions is because it almost makes me feel like I'm listening to the song for the first time. This one got the closest to that feeling.
Pot might be the greatest produced song of all time. You don’t need to be a metal head or a big rock fan to appreciate how perfectly this song hits. It’s just so perfect. I fell in love with Tool as a kid. They were just so different from their contemporaries.
This has to be one of the first times I've ever already been a supporter of a channel BEFORE they start their Tool journey. I am so excited for you Teddy, this is going to be one hell of an adventure.
Yessiree!!!!!
that’s awesome!!
Same here 😂
Same. So here for this. I was cheesing through this entire reaction
No doubt. With ya.
"There's too many things!" 😂😂 that's definitely one way to say it lol. Welcome to Tool, a feast for the mind and soul, lyrically and musically 😁😁
The Danny-gasm he has at 5:06 is classic. Those fills... lol
All of this! 🖤🤘🖤
His face immediately when the bassline comes in, and he appreciates the incredible production in the recording of the percussion. I'll never tire of seeing people get their first taste of Tool, but I love it when they don't just appreciate Maynard's voice but the musical craft of the band. They put such incredible intention into every detail, not just their own playing but the composition *and the recording*. It's true, this song is a masterpiece of production.
Most accurate description of a Tool Newbie to their music-
"THERE'S TOO MANY THINGS!!"
"Skip ahead, I don't care." Proceeds to restart the song 😂 Love it man
🤘🏼🔥 love❤
Oh you need to check out the Tool drum cam version of Pneuma, it's an autistic sensory delight of sights and sounds, and you get to see up close the most talented drummer who ever lived, capable of playing 4 different rhythms at once, one with each limb.
This!
It is rather outstanding.
Yes, but listen to the studio version first!
Dude he's not ready for that yet lol.
@@jonsaylor756 😂
P.S. It's not the production, it's the talent. Check them out live. Check out their cover of the LIVE version of "No Quarter". "Pushit" live. You'll never be the same.
It's both. The magic of Tool is largely in the layering of polyrhythms so that every new section of the song seems to come out of nowhere and then feel perfect once you latch onto it. But the mix is also an important part of the process.
Tool is a very bass driven band…one of the best bassists ever!
Idk I think Les claypool is a better bass player but they are 2 completely different styles
"Skip ahead, I don't care"
fucking lol'd
Same... was just about to say the same thing... bro is hooked.
Yeah it's going to be a good time to watch him progress through all that is MJK.
4:42 when he says "Kangaroo" it is in reference to a kangaroo court, which is an informal trial held usually without anyone who is actually in the court system, and the outcome of the "trial" is usually already decided. all this to explain the line "kangaroo done hung the juror with the innocent"
This needs to be pinned. When I first showed my brother this song, he thought it was about Australia lol... Although I think this is where the term comes from
Trump's guilty.
So what Trump 24!@@sharonstephens8242
I believe the lyrics describe a judge who put people behind bars for marijuana offenses and was then caught on drug charges and had the nerve to plead for leniency
I'm 52 and I've been on this Tool journey since 1994! I absolutely love seeing people experience Tool!!
“As someone with autism…”
Dude, TOOL is such a treat for us autsies because EVERY song is a rabbit hole for us to explore!
5:06 - Another main pathway for people to find Tool has been the live performance video of Sober. You get to see his intensity as he fully embodies the character, going on a personal journey.
I can do the studio version with some lyrics and then the live performance all in one video for you? 🍿👀
@@TeddyGreyOS YES, please!
Is that the song Maynard judo tossed a stage crasher, pinned him and then spent the next bit singing into the back of his head till security finally showed up?
@@daveboutilier-wx1et no it's the one where he's wearing a pink onesie. Also you posted that a bunch of times fyi
Oops! I was having a poor connection. I didn’t think it even sent once. My bad
"This is going to be very extrasensory for me." Remember that quote Teddy. You don't know how spot on that is. 🤣
As cliche as it sounds, listening to tool while tripping is intense. Very very extrasensory.
Thought the same thing ahahhahahaha maaaan, you don’t have a clue lol😂😂
Tool is literally extrasensory personified. And I LOVE em for it haha!
He said that and all I thought was, "if he's thinking that already, he may want to sit down."
The most accurate description for listening to Tool
A whole pandemic went by and I'm still on track 3 of a tool album
Which one though?? Lol
justins bass line in this song is just carrying this whole song to whole new level, such a groovy funky yet rocking, one of my favorite bassits ever
The line "Kangaroo done hung the juror with the innocent." Kangaroo court is a phrase meaning sham court or a rigged legal hearing where the prosecuted is considered guilty even before they have the evidence laid out. In UK and Australia kangaroo court is also a drunk thing in pool and darts bars. Hold kangaroo court in the pub and let banter ensue. lol fun concept, great lyrics and tune.
Fucking great song
Like Trump. Yet no Epstein clients arrested. We ALL know why. So who are to wave your fatty commie fingers!
Hmm I thought kangaroo court was something like the court of public opinion. I learned something new
@@atrumluminarium it can be used in that way but the implication is that the public won't necessarily have all the details. In a true court case they may or may not have all the details but it is often a bias court whether or not they have all the details. :) your welcome.
@@atrumluminariumit’s both really, a kangaroo court just refers to anyone who’s put on “trial” official or other wise when the verdict has bee decided before the evidence has been presented and when the evidence is presented it will have no affect on the verdict, as it has already been decided.
"Welcome" Says the Tool Army. Rewind as much as you want. Listen with your eyes closed. Enjoy!
And remember to "think for yourself and question authority."
As someone lucky enougj to see them live i assure you, it's not post production creating that magic. It's just Tool man... it's what they do.
This analogy to Freddie Mercury is actually brilliant. I've been listienging to Tool for so many years and never came up to that conclusion.. but it's so true!
Tool army does its thing again. My favourite thing is watching the new generation discover TOOL & RATM.
Tool deserves the respect they get , and more ppl should experience them otherwise they gonna lose out on hearing some of the greatest songs ever made . Such a shame many ppl don't get them .
Army should have kept Maynard offered him the bird. (Made him full bird colonel)
Here! Here! Totally agree 🤘
Dont agree that tool and ratm should be compared... never .
@@barrychaisson560 good thing they’re not being compared. Just appreciated. There’s a difference.
"why is that happening all around me?"
That is what you get when an artist actually cares about their music production. Stereo audio can be extremely spacial if recorded and mixed properly.
This is an extremely underrated aspect of production. On a related note, King Diamond has talked about how in the past so many artists (himself included) were obsessed with the music sounding perfect in a studio setting while totally neglecting how it actually sounds in practice (through consumer-grade headphones, in living rooms, in cars, etc.) and it made him re-evaluate how the mixing and mastering are done. You shouldn't need to buy thousands of dollars worth of audio equipment in order to "properly" listen to an album.
Tool fans completely understand saying "ive gotta hear that again." The lyrics are always amazing too.
I was an immediate fan at
“My pants have shitten”
Subbed.
First minute in and you can tell he's sold on Tool lol
It's Tool time 🎧🎸
With Teddy the Tool man tailor
Hidey ho neighbor
once you hear tool there is no turning back 🔥
Never apologize for rewinding to tool fans, they do it all the time. lol
Tool is one of the few bands that sounds just as good live as they do recorded.
Or better.
I prefer them live.
I've seen them 6 times I think? Always amazing. Any Tool fans out there, make sure you see Puscifer and APC to complete the trifecta if you get the chance!
@LMNT129 I've only seen them twice, but they are incredible.
Better. Recorded, you hear the music. Live, you FEEL it.
His genuine little giggles of excitement are the most satisfying thing for a tool fan
now THIS is my kind of reaction channel. on ur feet, STANK face, boppin along like a mf. This is my favourite TOOL song and I was boppin right along with you bro, subscribed!!!
Soldier for the TOOL Army here, I just wanted to congratulate you on your conscription.
Tool - Ænema (lyrics)
Tool - Ænema (lyrics)
I'm having a hard time trying to argue with your opinions
Yeah that song has lyrics
I'm just visiting, and someone has probably already said this, but Maynard's voice is mixed as if it's an instrument. He isn't the lead singer. He is an instrument.
Guys we are witnessing a new Tool fan being born, it's always a beautiful sight to see, also they are just as well live and can produce the same result outside the studio.
I will never, ever tired of witnessing people experiencing TOOL for their first time. Your reactions have been so genuinely lovely so far. Take my subscription!
One of the best riffs in history. A simply perfect song, complicated yet simple. Tool is the GOAT
“Skip ahead I don’t care” god damn you made my morning dude. TOOL is S Tier in all of recorded history imo
13:13. They play every single thing they ever did in studio, perfectly live! It’s been proven for decades now.🌿🌸
yes i came to say this they sound just like this live.
Their production is top tier, but it's mostly the composition that is insane. No one writes music like Tool and no one sings like Maynard.
The live shows are amazing. Mind blowing
As a hardcore tool and Maynard fan I can assure you what you experience live is just as much magical as what you heard from the studio version. They can pretty much duplicate everything you just heard live. These musicians are masters of their craft and all giant geniuses in their own right
"THE DRUMS!!!!"....... thank you for gracing the world with your talent Danny
It amazes me that nobody who reviews this song ever mentions the cool pre-echo before the 2 first lines. “Who are you” and “eye hole deep”, those words are said twice but the first is waaaaay in the background just above silent. It’s a really cool nuance in the song and needs more recognition
That was the first thing i noticed the first time i heard this song. Made it feel kind of psychedelic
Sorry to necro. The “pre echo” is bleed through of a previous take. It’s a thing with magnetic tape that sometimes previous information doesn’t get completely overwritten during silence. Imo it was accidental, and while they could have cleaned it up in production it was one of the best accidents ever so they left it in. Sometimes genius is recognizing that imperfections and accidents are beautiful too.
@@TheM4DH1PP0 except that almost nobody records to tape anymore. It’s all protools now.
@TheM4DH1PP0 While that is a thing on some older recorded songs, you don't get that much on modern recordings. This is also something Tool did on earlier tracks, as well. You can hear it on "Jimmy," for example.
this dude needs more views. Authentic reactions, and actually puts emotion into it. This guy, lost in vegas, and the trash talkers are the best reaction videos in my opinion.
Facts
"I need to turn that up a bit" funny, i have the same thought every time Tool comes on
I've watched dozens upon dozens of people reacting to this song for the first time, and it never, ever gets old. Hook, line, and sinker
Ohhhh hell yeah.
Starting the Tool journey huh!? Never thought I’d see the day.
Get yourself ready, It’s one hell of a journey!
Next up: ‘The Grudge’
Also, still need to get on Architects : Animals
I just listened to architects animals for the first time just now....lots of lincoln park in that sound
Such a great band. They're one of those bands you can listen to in the dark and float way on the music. It's can be an amazing thing when you relax, let go, and just ride the music.
Man I listened to Jimmy after a hit of DMT and I'm pretty sure I've never been the same person since lol. Listened to them a ton on mushies but the DMT experience was next next level!
Your first smile when you had to catch your bearings in the beginning was contagious.
TOOL sounds like that live. TOOL is love TOOL is life.
Welcome to Tool ❤ I have been waiting for this! The music is written before the lyrics. Maynard is unreal. The drummer, Danny Carey, is known as the octopus. There is a drum cam video you would love.
Tool Army, reporting for duty. All of their songs are this good. Keep exploring.
Present
🫡
I raised my hand for the Tool Army head count! Just saw them in Nov and they are... everything.
Tool is a sensory experience no matter how you see or hear them. Their concerts are the best. Maynard is a genius. Danny is an alien on drums. The entire band is perfectly balanced.
Rap fans ALWAYS pick up on the unique timing immediately. Respect.
I AM SO HERE FOR THIS YAAAAAS. Since my birth 27 years ago, Maynard has never failed to impress me, including the drummer Danny Carey. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for getting around to this, Tool is more than exceptional.
If you love the drums, I would highly recommend Danny Carey performing “Pneuma” live if you so wish. The man is a human octopus
Happy 10,000th Dayversary 🎉
Maynard James Keenan is the lead singer as a vocalist and front man he's an interesting character treating his voice as just another instrument in the band. Sometimes singing softly in the background sometimes out in front tearing up the track but more often weaving in and out with the guitars blending beautifully. He's a very shy man who struggles with crippling stage fright regularly hiding at the back or side of the stage in the shadows not even facing the crowd during gig's to avoid the attention he finds so difficult to cope with.
The fact that he did some podcast interviews lately blew my mind!
@@paintedlady_81 when he overcomes his shyness he a really cool guy I've always wished the video of him performing sober had been professionally shot. His portrayal of an addict while singing brought tears to my eyes reminding me of my late grandfather who struggled with alcoholism his whole life.
He's not the lead singer he's the only singer -MJK
Don't forget he also hid behind a cardboard cutout of himself on a few occasions
He's more visible live now then back in the day. Saw them in 02 and he was in the shadows the entire time. Greatest show I've ever seen, hands down
Tools time signatures are unlike anything I can think off past or present- it’s music for musicians lol
I love seeing a Tool fan being born.
I love watching people learn what the trope of a "tool fan" is
If you like the fibonacci sequence, I got a song for you.
Awwww 💩 Teddy FINALLY got some TOOL in him. Lol. Welcome to the fam man. TOOL is the first of the lead singer Maynard's bands. The other 2 are A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. He also did a colab with The Deftones called Passenger. The voices together are chilling and haunting but BEAUTIFUL! So many great songs by TOOL, but my suggestion would have to be Schism, Sober, Anema, Right In Two, 46 & 2. Can't wait to see where you go from here! ❤❤❤
Yes schism or sober both masterpieces and logically the best songs to go to next
Watching people experience Tool for the first time is a beautiful thing. I wish I could experience them for the first time again.
This is as close as we get now, but that's OK. I still get the chills
Tool songs are almost always long. But you looked like would fit right in at one of their concerts! And fun fact: Maynard is also the vocalist for A Perfect Circle.
What song should he start with? Pet?
@@crystal6708 I'm always partial to the live version of sober
The first A Perfect Song should always be Judith, in my opinion. Pet or the Outsider are food follow-ups.
@@crystal6708Orestes Live at Red Rocks. Moving
And Puscifer
"The Pot" by Tool is often interpreted as a commentary on hypocrisy and self-righteousness. The lyrics suggest a sense of calling out someone who is judgmental and critical, yet guilty of similar behavior. The metaphor of a "pot calling the kettle black" is prevalent in the song. Overall, it explores themes of accountability and the irony of accusing others while overlooking one's own flaws.
Maynard has the voice of an angel.
Just so you know, once you have heard these guys.....there is no going back you cant unhear it.
Its more than hearing it you FEEL it
"I'm going to have to turn this up a little bit" LOL with Tool especially, you'll never regret doing that!
I love watching people discover Tool for the first time!!! Welcome to the Tool Army!!! Fasten your seatbelt and enjoy the ride!!! Greetings from Guatemala 🇬🇹
Tool is amazing and i feel like this Everytime i hear them.
This is how you change a man. You just gotta show them every Tool song in existence
@TeddyGreyOnStuff @6:17 you said to "skip ahead I dont care"
Any REAL Tool fan will NOT skip ahead because we are on the same journey you are every time we listen to Tool
Also sir that is an EPIC beard
Their production literally surrounds you with constant movement. Tool army is here to help guide you in songs by the best prog band in history. The rabbit hole is deep, sir.🌀🤘
I’m glad you got to feel this song and not just hear it mate, the fact it hit you in the heart makes you my brother straight out the gate. I’m 39 and smoked weed since I was 12, grew up hard in the 90’s and am and old hip hop head but when I found metal especially tool when I was working with a guitar player in a band at 15 I found something in Tool that really fucken spoke to me so on behalf of a an army of fans, welcome the the metal family. All I can say is go to a live gig, it’ll blow your soul out of your body and the people there are also metal family so the love is real. Go blow your mind brus, respect from Aus 👊😎
Tool's music is very primal with an orchestral rawness
Now I want to see an orchestra cover Tool...
This song is 17 years old and just now discovering the awesomeness of Tool. You, Teddy Grey are in for a treat once you head down this rabbit hole.
It's not all about the production, this guys are incredible musicians 😊
Having been listening to Tool for near 25 years, it is now one of my greatest pleasures to watch other people encounter them for the first time. It really brings some of that first time magic back all over again.
My neighbors cant sit still while i play TOOL, too 😅 Never gets old! Maynard is literally the BEST !! 🎸 🤘
Tool is def an experience. Lyrically, musically.....all intense, not normal, and amazing! Also, if you are a time signature guy, you can throw that shit right out the window. ;)
The more you go down this rabbit hole, I think you'll think of how Tool creates music as an "experience" - it's the mix, how they write, etc. All so unique.
Tool never gets old. I know the drums to a couple of their songs and I still love each track. I’ve listened to them for 15 years and it’s never enough.
As a 40 year old who has been a Tool fan since I was 14 I can say it still makes me happy to see someone discover one of the greatest band's in musical history.
Tool is the best band to ever come together!! Been my band since first listen Undertow in 93❤ I absolutely love them 4 geniuses❣️
Oh snap. He done did it now. 👏👏👏
The way you described everything as catching up with each other is perfect. Welcome to Tool.
