It wasn't as bad as it seems now. First person view added a lot of terror to the monsters. And while the gameplay wasn't stellar, the fragments of story you read were one of the best parts of it. It felt like a short story and it was a great addition to the main series.

It's really easy to look at middling crap from your childhood and think "Why didn't people like this?" when there's zero point of reference, in contrast to what else was out at the time, and what had been out for years on the system, Survivor was just totally inferior.

I wish they would remake all of this little known RE games into main titles. It’s a perfect opportunity to add to the franchise. Very few people know about the stories of these games so remakes would be like bringing completely new content to the series.
This is like one of those movies that are absolute flops when they're released but get appreciation through time. Apart from the memories that it brought back from my childhood this game was so ahead of its time ! They should definitely give us a remake ❤
The problem with this game is that it was way too easy. As a kid I found it terrifying and the fact it was in first person and sometime you would enter a room and weren't able to quickly see if there were enemies near you was very scary. It made entering a room a lot more tense than the classic Resident Evils, but at the end of the day it was too easy cause you had unlimited ammo. They could have done something a lot better with this.
@@Jejakedit I had a hard time playing it because I was scared but when I got over that I realized you could beat any part easily and the unlimited ammo meant you could save all the strongest weapons for the more challenging parts
@@Jejakedit I like how the sky and things in the distance were completely black which was missing from the other RE games. That and the music created some good atmospheres from the early levels to the end game labs

There could be reasons why some people didn't like this game: 1. The characters, 2. The Controls (I actually tried playing this and the controls were stiff. Especially from a person who's use to the d-pad. While I didn't know you can definitely continue to shoot at the zombie and it'll do auto-aim for you. But this was before I knew how to get there.) 3. The camera (first-person survival horror is not really the best for doing zombie games like this one. The other Resident Evils had it from a fixed camera angle and a wide shot. I understand the developers were changing it up to make it like the first person shooters of other PS1/PC games at the time, but sometimes it doesn't really work for me to wonder where I even am at certain points). 4. The gameplay (during the game, there's a section where you have to run through a forest to get to another building. And chimp gunners would come out every few seconds or so. After the tenth chimp shooter, it became annoying having to kill each one of these guys. Plus the laser beams coming out of nowhere, yet that's what you get from a fifth generation console). Plus, from the look of it, the game is pretty short. Sometimes a costly game at that time for short gameplay doesn't really help the fun factor too much. More of a rental if I say so. Keep in mind I did not grow up with Resident Evil (since I would be frustrated trying to figure out with the first game on what to do). Plus, it's a bit too easy and nemesis doesn't look like the one you see from RE3. 5. The voice acting (it's corny I know, but the emergency voice could have used a bit more umph to the voice. I still think RE1 had the best emergency evacuation voice; Just an opinion.) Also, don't shoot more bullets to the creature if they're starting to collapse and die, it's a waste of bullets you will need for the bosses. I'm surprised you skip quite a lot of regular bosses (usually that isn't skip-able) than the final boss. Other than that the story can be quite interesting at times (the ending shows how it ended up as).

Been playing the series. Saw this game on the wiki and that it was canon. I was having trouble emulating it though so this video is a big help to understand the story and see the gameplay.
RE7 was more or less some kind of spiritual remake of this game. but with a better written scenario, more talented dubbing, realistic gun sounds, revamped ambiance to be more apocalyptic, and more original guns and enemies, a RE Survivor remake would make a nice game, not better than RE2 , RE1R, RECV or RE4 but still
Biohazard: Gun Survivor 😆 I used to play the Japanese version as a kid. It was incredibly scary for me especially the half skeleton zombies in the cooler room.

A bit awkward but it's a worthy addition to the lore. I especially like the Undertaker Unit. If this was ever remade, it'd be fun to explore more about that weirdo who leads the Undertaker frogmen.

Remember this game when it came out, me and a buddy were into Resident Evils early cause our dads, about 5. But we had taken over around this specific release and we got it from blockbuster and beat it that night, but was so terrified because 1st person was new to us.
Tried this myself, got to the lab and died out of stupidity one two many times. Not a terrible game, but I’m just watching the rest of your play through now. Not worth battling my way back, at least at the present moment. I still have 10 resident evil games left to play through and don’t need to add another 2 hours to that load

people didn't end up liking this game because the controls are fucking horrendous and it's a game that never even needed to exist in the first place... the amnesia trope is also one that is very stale and is only effective when it's used properly... this is NOT one of the instances where it was used properly
I actually like this game but the game could've been a bit longer.
