Shark Apex Vacuum Review: Best Pet Hair Vac?
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 8 ก.พ. 2025
- The Shark Apex with Zero M and Powered Lift-Away technology is supposedly one of the best pet hair vacuums on the market. Today I put it to the test and compare it to the Shark IonFlex.

When you clean the vacuum, you become the vacuum cleaner.
Congrats on making an unoriginal joke.

crimsonking 99: YOU ARE FUNNY! You made my day
My dog sheds like it's her job. My shark picks up enough dog hair in one shot to donate hair for 10 dogs with cancer.
lol
😂🤣😂
Sounds like it really sucks 😁😁 (get it,eh)
use it for needle felting it works grest after its washed
My family always had Shelties, & my fa. had one who was particularly furry... told us that one time he groomed him, got 7 small trash cans worth of fur off him--but still couldn't tell afterwards that he'd actually brushed him.
I just bought one of these about a month ago. I opted for the upgrade on the canister cart, steam mop, a few extra accessories and lifetime warranty. I couldn't be happier. I have seven cats, this thing has never clogged. It gets all the fine litter and dust off the hard floors perfectly, great one room with carpet as well. That motorized pet tool is amazing on furniture and pet beds. IMO well worth the price. I do agree with James on the hose being the only issue.
Cal Luellen this is exactly what I was looking for! I just purchased this with the pet package... sounds like it’s worth the money
Cal Luellen - Are you talking about this very same model Shark Apex demonstrated here but just with extra parts ordered from the company?
Or
Are you talking about a different upgraded Shark. Vac model with different extra attachments but same basic technology as this Apex?
"Do you still like this vacuum?"
I asked this then saw the link to the 11 months later video. Watched it and I'm sold. I've been looking for a good vacuum and I can't wait to try it out!! Thank you for your reviews!!
I bought a Bissell Power Lifter Pet vac and JUST checked the brush! Already needed a new bag (been a while though) NO FUR ON BRUSH! did I mention I have 2 VERY long haired, under coat cats!!!!! NIGHTMARE FUR, but lovely...UNDER $85!!!!!!!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!! Has great attachment to remove fur from furniture too!
The lift away feature also allows you to use your vacuum wand to reach under all the furniture since the canister can't get in the way. I love I can reach under my couch and bed without having to use a wand tool or move anything! They also make a canister roller base so you can turn it into a canister vac and roll it around behind you!
I absolutely love this zero M technology! I have long hair and I shed enough but I also have 2 dogs And 3 cats! I HATED cleaning the roller, I had the ion and I screamed YES when I saw the zero M technology! I love that I no longer have to clean a roller!
@Tammy Warren - That's why I've been watching these reviews. I have very long hair, too, and even though I toss stray hairs into the trash can, it still falls on the floors and then jam up my regular vacuum. Don't have pets.
Thank you for this review. I have 3 pugs and they shed as tho it is their job to do so. I have tried multiple vacuums without much success. After watching your video, I purchased the Apex, and I must tell you, it is wonderful! It get the hair up with minimal effort and I don’t have to spend time cutting it off the roller. I found that if I let the vacuum run for about 30 to 45 seconds once I’m done, all the hair is sucked into the dust collector and the rollers are clean. The only drawbacks I see with this machine is the short hose extension and the fact that it came without any attachments, unless I purchase them separately. Thank you again, I love and appreciate your honest and straightforward reviews.
Another great review, and I like how you incorporate other products you have reviewed so we can even have a chance to see a more in depth review if we want.
Keep it up, I'm on my third product that I have bought because of your reviews, and so far I know what to expect and what not to expect with them.
Thanks again.
I love the way Bailey looks at the camera at the end as if to say, I hope he finishes soon so I can go lay down. Lol. Good review. I use the Rainbow, which I love, but it is very expensive and in a different class as these. I also have the motorized upholstery attachment.
Love my Shark. I have the original Navigator Pro!! 6 maybe 7 years...Still going strong and I LOVE it. Seen a few comments on a backpack strap--Shark does offer them. I ordered mine with my purchase along with the car detail kit. Amazing! The company offers loads of attachments. 😊 I agree with the hose assessment...it is a bit of a drawback...but all those pros far outweigh it. 💗
I have been using the Navigator, then got the duo clean flex...whoooaaa what a difference! I just bought the Apex duo with Zero M... haven't used it yet but my guess is I'm going to LOVE! The best thing about these duo head vacs is the user interface. With Dyson I was so sick of having to shake rugs or fight with any attachment to get from each floor surface. Sharks duo head has sold me in this alone, but that duo clean, first roll practically cleans a hard floor, as in wipe down and everything!! I cleaned houses for 20 years and this vacuum is by far the best I've ever used. With the Apex now you get the same suction of the Dyson with WAAAAY more flexibility and no more fighting all that suction to do rugs. Either the motorized bush attachment gets the really flimsy ones or the duo head takes care of business without changing a thing!! Compared to Dyson for the money... this thing will pay for itself in lack of headache meds in a month's time!!
I would say based on my own experience with the same vacuums your review was spot on! I have a small cleaning business and have the opportunity to use many brands. I always find my sharks are better performers than any other brands and the most value. My favorite is the Navigator. It seems to have more power/suction on carpet than the Apex duo.
Always like your reviews no bs just a real working review good stuff thank you keep going
Thank you for the review! I love your pet-related reviews. I have three pets and I'm always looking for anything to help manage their fur and make my life slightly easier.
Have a Shark Apex and it works great for picking up my 2 dogs and a cat’s hair. The big clumps are not unrealistic on the hard wood floors where tumble furs gather. I found the small brush tool with out the brush section works the best on microfiber furniture
I truly appreciate your review. Great clarity and I just really enjoyed watching your video. Great job.!
Thanks for making this video!! I'm one of your subscribers and I was thinking about getting this vacuum as I already have a shark and I like it a lot. I have two cats and they produce a lot of hair. So now since your review I will definitely get one. Thanks
Thank you for making this video. I have three German shepherds and I’ve previously bought dysons but this time around I needed to find something more budget minded. Thank you for including the link, I just ordered one from amazon and an eagerly waiting for it to arrive next week.
Makes sense because the corded vacuum has a more powerful motor with more suction to remove the hair before it gets wound onto the roller. Great review as always, thanks a ton my friend.
I’ve owned this vacuum for a few months now, with 6 cats, 2 dogs, and 4 kids, I can say this vacuum is a workhorse. It has more suction power than any dyson on the market and the zero-m technology keeps the hair off the roller. BTW the zero-m is like a comb in the rear that clears the bristles every time it rotates, simple but ingenious at the same time.
We have quite a few dogs and cats in our house, plus I like fresh air flowing through, so a bit of dust comes in that way also. After using Hoover for a couple of decades, which was good, we invested in Dyson with Hepa Filter (to also help with allergens - which is kind of a moot point, all things considered 🙄).
The Dysons are brilliant! And you _do_ get what you pay for. 👍
Thanks for a another relaxed yet informative upload. Your jumping and rubbing in Bailey’s fur got me chuckling.
Watched this because I could not figure out how to clean out my Pyrenese long hair out of my Shark Duo Clean Apex which “doesn’t get pet hairs wrapped around the roller”. Well, but it does! But I figured it out after watching your video & one other which looked more like my Apex. Thanks so much!
I just recently got Apex one and it is awesome indeed. I got refurbished one for $199 though without zero m, no warranty, and a few scratches, but we do not have pets and it is nice quiet and powerful machine, everyone in our family love it. There is just one thing that i never really noticed with any other vacuums, but with all that awesome power that Apex has i guess, it takes some getting used to try to "fight" with vacuum constantly that keeps trying to run away from you, and one has to pull it back against its will, while the vacuum basically goes forward on its own.
Great review as always.
Happy Birthday Bailey 🎂💕🐶
I like that you dont do sponsored posts. Please keep doing honest, good reviews! The intro/outro music is good as well.
I have the same vacuum you do and I LOVE IT. Works great on hair of all kinds and I don't have to cut the stuff off the roller anymore. It also has very very strong suction (sometimes TOO powerful!) so it's just a great overall vacuum. I know I sound like a commercial but damn I love this thing LOL
For those who are not in the market for a new vacuum and need to clear the beater bar of ppl or pet hair, a seam ripper is probably the easiest tool for the job. (Sewing aisle of walmart, joann fabrics etc).
Oh my gosh, thank you so much for this tip! I have been using razor, and this is so much safer. What a brilliant solution that seems *incredibly* obvious now that you've mentioned it, and I don't know if I ever would have thought of it. 💜
@@sydneymomma11 so glad I could help!
I have the older version of the apex (without the extra roller in the front) bought it in 2013 ( with the VIP warranty),They replaced the foot on mine after I got a hole in the hose, for free...I love mine, easily the best vacuum I've owned with 3 dogs,2 of which are husky mixes.
I LOVED the montage of you smashing the pet hair into the carpet 😂😂😂 love your reviews!
Nice vinyl player in the side shot, I have the same one. Always cool to see someone who enjoys music as much as I do. Also love the vacuum just bought one! haha
Shark is a great vacuum!! Loved seeing Baily!!
Bailey: "Yeah whatever. Where's my lunch?" 🤣 🤣
Shark should be paying you. Your video is what helped me decide and I will be buying the Apex this coming week. Thanks for the awesome and realistic review.
Nice! Ty for sharing! I use a vaccum called Royal pro series. The mid grade model, cost was around $150? Supposedly the flagship model for hoover. It looks almost idetical to their bagged pet vaccum. Had it 3-4 years now, works awesome on pet hair! Mine gets wrapped some, but not my golden's hair. You can feel it lift and pull on the carpet. Same hose issue, so he gave me a different one to attatch to it to extend it. Has a vaccum powered pet tool thing, that works ok with lite pressure. Everyone who has used it, loves it!! No more cleaning that nasty dust bin! Love it!
Thank you!! I too have a golden retriever and have usually bought the newest Dyson pet vacuum that is out, spending upwards of $600. The last Dyson I got was the Dyson ball animal 2 total clean. The suction is way to much, and not in a good way, I realized after buying the shark apex. This is truly the best vacuum I've had and I paid about half of what I did for the Dyson. FYI I vacuumed with the Dyson and then again with the Shark and a lot still came up. So much for the "best suction" Dyson claims is one reason they are the "best". One thing to note, is that the pet attachment is no longer motorized, but I think it still did a great job on furniture. I do think Shark should go back to or still offer the motorized separately.
I think this wins over the Dyson. We have the Apex and a Dyson Animal 2. The hose is very long on animal 2, but when the vacuum is on, there's too much power that it flys right into your back, and you are stuck with like a 2-foot hose. The Dyson also has that weird black belt thing that leaves a dirty spot on the carpet.
Just wanted to inform you in case you want a Dyson. (Also, animal 2 cannot be pushed on any shag rug unless you are super strong. My feet slide on the carpet trying to push it!)
Thanks man been a sub for a min, I would to say you have the only true review I can find on the tube. Thanks Man!!!!
Thanks for posting. I've burned up 3 vacuums over the years for pet hair. Finally got a canister one years ago that worked best. However, I've recently converted over to a Roomba. Which can run every few day. Use my canister one for "extra" cleaning before steam cleaning now. They all still get hair wrapped around them. Like to have a tool made that took it off easier.
Just bought this vacuum for work a few weeks ago, best vacuum ever.
I have two long hair cats that get hair everywhere. I have the Shark Vertex with duo clean and power lift away. It works excellent !!! Hardly gets clogged with hair and if it does the first roller just pops out and easy to clean. Highly recommend 👍🏻👍🏻😎😎
Thanks for your performance review. It is now Oct 2021 and I just got the APEX AZ1002 vacuum identical to the video. I really like the vacuum and only complaints I have is also the short Hose and they need additional attachments for the Shark vacuums. There is an AZ pack on Amazon(cost 80 dollars), but no one has video reviewed these attachments in action and there are mixed reviews on Amazon whether they work with the AZ1002 vacuum(so I wont get until I know for sure this pack works).
I have a vacuum similar to this I bought last year. I can't tell you about cleaning pet hair out because I have long hair and it's always a headache to clean.
It's a great vacuum though. It actually rose over $100 since I bought it new. All they have left to perfect their vacuums is make the main brush roll removable for easy cleaning. 4/5 stars.
Thank you, I bought one,! My GSD is a long hair woolly mammoth. Apex does help a lot
At 11:43, Bailey is saying "He is not paying attention to me folks." lol. Also, sick logo.
Bailey & his furry companion stole every scene they were in.
Its crazy priced but I have a sebo x4. We used to go thru about a vacuum every 2 years and I haven't had a new one now in years. It was almost 800 bucks but the sebo x4 is a great vaccum. The only thing I really buy for it is the hepa bags, and some filters occasionally. It works great, can't say enough about it.
Also wanted to say I'm not made of money in any way shape or form and the vacuum was a big investment for our house but when you compare buying a 200 vacuum every two years or so it adds up.. The sebo I believe comes with a standard 10 or 15 year warranty..
I just love watching all your reviews. It helps so much when I'm making decisions on a purchase... Keep up the good work. 👍🏼😁👍🏼😁👍🏼
Thank you for this video!! I bought this vacuum because your review and I love it! It’s been a few months now and I have 2 dogs and a cat and two kids under two so I use it quite often! Thank you!!
I don't know if you'll see this, but do you have long hair, like yourself, and if so, does it jam up with it?
I liked it at the end when Bailey looked at the camera 😍
I have the shark ipex duo and LOVE it!
Loved the review since I have a golden also, which is the reason I looked at this review! Thank you!
Tip: If you already own an apex without zero m you can upgrade from the regular floor nozzle. They are interchangeable.
Great review. I have two sharks - the older "Professional" model and the "Duo Clean Powered Liftaway." They're both great vacs, but as you noted, the brush rollers get stuff wrapped around them. Even though I don't have a pet now, I've found other things wrapped around the brush roll - human hair, string, ends of rugs, etc. I'm definitely considering the new Apex.
I have the older shark vacuum and I love it
That new logo tho
I have 2 Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and 3 cats so this is added to my wish list. Thank you so much!
I ditched the Dyson for a Shark ! The pet hair tool is brilliant. I’m yet to be convinced that cordless vacs have the power needed to maintain strong suction though.
Flobber Top They don't. Bagless sweepers are completely reliant on their filters and begin losing suction immediately. A bagged vacuum cleaner, otoh, sees it's suction renewed with each bag change and the bags hold about 200 times as much debris as even the largest bagless dust cup.
Carlton Wilson Thank you, that makes sense!
@@Carlton_Wilson that's why I love my Miele! It may seem expensive at first but it will far outlast your Dyson, Shark and all the other popular throw-aways. The Miele will last for 20 years. How much will you spend on vacuums in 20 years? AND bagless vacuums are nasty, static electricity makes the dirt stick to the inside of the dirt cup, all I do is remove a clean, full disposable bag. It contains all of the dirt, no dirt leaking, the bag chamber is CLEAN! There are several models from which to choose, get the one that works for your situation. They also hold their resale value, you can buy one used and be confident that it will be dependable.
Terri S I've never known any Miele to last twenty years. Most common Miele repairs are failed cord reels, then failed motors, followed by failed control assemblies. Circuit boards do not belong in vacuum cleaners. Decent little vacs, to be sure, but the bags are faulty. The bag fails, causing debris to obstruct or worse, enter the motor.
100% agree about bagless... NASSSSTY.
I can't believe you actually think the Shark is better than the Dyson...mine has the same suction today that it had the day I got mine...I would never go back to any other sweeper now.
I have three long haired Golden Retrievers and a Shark Navigator Lift-Away that I found in the trash. I unclogged it and cleaned it and it works perfectly. I have had it for well over a month and there is hardly any hair on the roller. Just a few strands and I vacuum almost every day and each time it picks up a wad of hair about the size of a softball. I don't know what is up with your roller other than they were trying to improve on a design that was already excellent and they ended up screwing it up. Somebody, somewhere once said, "If it works, don't fix it!"
I had a Kirby vacuum 40 years ago. Talk about expensive. The whole setup was $750.00 with all the attachments way back then. I rarely used the attachments. They were too cumbersome and not the quality of equivalent tools, and took significant time to assemble. The vacuum was by far the best on the market at the time. By today's standards it was heavy, bulky, and difficult to operate. The roller was hard to clean. I used a stiff wire dog hair comb to clean it. Turn it on, let it spin, touch the brushes with the comb, and the hair came off. It would snag and labor but using the powered roller made it easy. It would eat up plastic brushes but the stiff wire ones would stand up to the torture. I should have patented it.
OMG it is all about that new logo!!
I use a rainbow vac at home and it does really well for pet and human hair. At work I use the bissell pet hair eraser and it works really well for pet hair too. I haven't noticed any hair wrap around the roller on the pet hair eraser.
Oh shit, I just left a comment on a video about the hair just laying on top of the carpet lol u right that's exactly what I'm looking for a vacuum that picks up the embeded pet hair, I'll give this one a shot. Thanx
The Bissell Crosswave Pet Pro is the best for pet hair, it also cleans hard surfaces.
Thanks, Aaaaaaamazing review😁. I have the cordless shark ion p50 it has the Same duo technology but it has a lift away bin that is also double the size. I love it 💕
The apex brush is very similar to the Dyson 65 animal, which is what I have. Great for picking up after my 4 pups. It also comes with a handy furniture tool.
Idk if you'll ever read this but if you want that gorgeous thing to last longer, you need to fold that cable away in a figure of 8, not a coil - same reason for extending extension leads all the way and compounded by the reason headphones break every damn week
You should compare/review the Hoover PowerDrive pet. I own one, it’s been a life saver for me and my German/husky mix dog. Also it only runs $180 and I got mine on sale for $139.99. Great vacuum
Minimal pet hair on the brush?
Thank you James, that was very fast!!! I just messaged about a pet vac vid. And BOOM! What do you know you had one! Hahahahaha this helps alot
Love your pet-related videos! 👍
I have a Dyson cyclone v10 Animal purple. I have 3 dogs 2 cats. This vacuum is amazing it has 3 levels of cleaning and is cordless. With many similar attachments. I have never seen a vacuum suck up so much hair and dirt.
I love my shark apex power lift away. Nothing really bad to get off roller . If by chance something gets on roller easy to remove.
Nice vac but 350 is a hard ask for most.
Is it? Just depends on your priorities.
I paid $20 for my vacuum used. I have to clean the filter after each use, which clogs. It's a bitch. And I'm not going to spend more money on vacuums.
In my experience the saying, “you get what you pay for”, has proved true time and time again.
HunterShows You get what you pay for and you bought junk. Get a bagged sweeper and stop being so cheap.
Junk. Best to buy a sweeper that takes bags. Far cleaner and will last many times longer than bagless sweepers do. Smell a lot better too.
I have a Dyson vacuum and a shark, after vacuuming with the Dyson I vacuumed with my Shark and the Shark picked up a lot more dirt that the Dyson left. I also have a Shark cordless and it’s great too. I think Shark is a much better vacuum. We have a Pug which sheds a lot and the reg Shark works great on pet hair.
Dysons have terrible spin brushes and poor air flow.
Which models are they?? Thanks
Purple has a new pillow. Its called the "Plush Pillow". Its a "soft" pillow that you can adjust (unzip or zip) to either make it soft or firm. Its "buy one get one free" right now for $50. Maybe do a review of that? I just bought them myself, maybe other people would like a review video of it. There is none that I can find. Thanks for this video!
Great timing. I'm searching for a great vacuum. 👍
You can get a comb/cutter made specifically for removing hair from a roller. One of my sweepers came with it.
I must have missed this one when you first did it. I have long hair, and that’s what gives me problems, I wish it could be pet hair but I’m not allowed pets in my flat! I came up with a fantastic way to remove hair from the roller, a sewing stitch cutter and a pair of thin nosed pliers.
Love the show but in this one Bailey steals the show... Adorable!!! That device is definitely worth looking into even though it is a bit pricy! Absolutely love the show!!!!!!!!
I got one on Black Friday from BJs for 199.00 (80.00 off). Our Dyson was leaking out of various joints and flaps, I got tired of taking it apart and rebuilding it every month. No pets, but 2 daughters and a wife with long hair I think they shed more than Bailey.
How has it held up?? Thinking of buying it!
I prefer bag vacuums, and the best value I found when I needed to replace my vintage vac was the "Bissell CleanView Pet Bagged Vacuum" $130 on Amazon. I'm pretty happy with it even though I don't have any animals with fur. It has similar brushes and a similar hand cleaning tool to the Shark Apex but it's about half the price.
Nothing much against good bagless vacs, but I can never turn back to Chinese made supermarket vacuums after living with a bagged Miele vacuum for 6 years. It really helps with allergies and the longevity of the vacuum motor. The thing lasts forever, and I don't go through bags often either. It took me 6 years to go though 15 large bags. However, I only got 1 cat and vacuum once a week. I can see the benefit of a good bagless vacuum if you have to vacuum hair everyday.
Great video! Convinced me to make a purchase. A comment from you on the HEPA aspects would have helped.
I live with 2 cats and a German shepherd and my miele c3 does a beautiful job without issues. The shark looks nice and cleans well but I dont know if I would get too rough with it.
To be fair, I think a lot of it also has to do with suction power. The corded one will be able to suck the hair off the rollers better than the battery operated one.
Filter queen for life. I know they cost a ton but I have had it 15 years and it's so amazing. Sucks up your socks if your not careful.
I also have 2 golden receivers and we have a Dyson big ball animal. It's the only vacuum I've tried that works on carpet
I also know that there’s even less maintenance with the vertex shark because it’s new design auntiehair wrap
This is why I personally prefer the Bissell vacuums with the Tangle Free Brushroll
SuperMarioFan 101 - which Bissell vacuum?
I have a Dyson ball pet vacuum and the battery power pet Dyson/v8 works great for me with my 5 dogs. Lots of pet hair,I been through 2 vacuum and my Dyson battery power had problems with picking up,but got a new Dyson battery power vacuum.
Honestly, as far as pet hair goes the best I've seen was a Hoover that was demonstrated on a clean carpet (supposedly, lol). It was done five times in the same spot until there was nothing left, it picked up everything you couldn't see was still there. Just wish I could afford one.
Shark do have great vacuum cleaners, I have the Shark Rocket & I love it. My dogs leave heaps of hair on my carpet & the Rocket does a great job removing it.
I got a purple shark navigator and it got lots of hair but I think it's the best vacuum and sharks don't give up
With Zero-M makes sure you left it run for at least 30-120 Seconds after the cleaning to reduces hair on the brushroll.
Good review. They stopped including the motorized pet tool and have a suction based one now. You can buy the motorized pet tool on the shark website though.
The suction one is terrible! I have the same thing too and I can't get anything with it.
@@brand3n_rblx516 really? Mine works pretty well despite not being motorized.
Few yrs ago my mom had a dirt devil vacuum cleaner can't remember what it was but literally that thing would build up static from the carpet & shock you!! It was so crazy bc never have I owned or used a vacuum cleaner that did that. I've always been a Bissell owner but I'm pretty sure my next vacuum will be a Shark. Does the Apex do good with human hair? Like your wife's hair? I don't have 2 big beautiful golden retrievers in the house I just have a cat but I have long red hair & oh boy does it drive me crazy to have to clean the roller on the vacuum all the time! LOL
I have a shark and I love it best vacuum I ever used
I'm pretty happy with my Hoover I wish it did have a lift away option but my handle comes out like yours for higher up areas but my hose is much more flexible an I can go further with it before pulling the sweeper over one of the main reasons I bought it was because of the handle coming off and giving me an extension, it's much longer than the typical attachment hose and being that I'm only 5'4 I can reach a lot higher up with it vs. my older sweepers that only had the hose attached to the sweeper . It does great on the pet hair I am owned by a dog (who is short haired but sheds non stop), 3 cats, 2 being short haired one medium hair all 3 shed a lot. And my kids are grown but I often have my boyfriends 4 grandsons over so by the time they leave my house looks like a tornado struck it and my vacuum fixes that awful sight almost to perfection :)
I would like to see robotic vacuum results
How is it year later?
Try the Bissell Air RAM, you won’t be disappointed. It is the same as the Gtech Air RAM.
I have four cats and use Fuller Brush Mighty-Maid Upright Vacuum Cleaner& Fuller Brush Home Maid Power Team Canister Vacuum. It works great
