    I am a doctor who practiced for 37 years. When attending anatomy class we had cadavers that were preserved in formaldehyde. The lab room stunk and after a few hours your eyes began to burn. The use of these amazing models and professors that have a passion for teaching will turn out doctors with a higher understanding of there patients. In my practice 80% of problems seen were musculoskeletal issues and with this knowledge in the beginning of instruction is incredibly useful.

      As a med student now in anatomy I’m praying for these plastic models, cause as fun as studying with real cadavers are, I’m crying every class over the cadaver

      Yet we leave in a time where thousands of our fellow man (incl medical staff, journalists, civilians) are wiped out in months by an aggressor and the US government invites the head of that govt to speak in their highest house of power. Sad times. YT is censoring comments to manipulate the narrative.

    I appreciate this video a lot. A lot of the other videos that come up are for massage or exercise. I don't know what you do for a living, teacher or therapist, but you are good at explaining stuff. I like that you take the time to show us the models and even remind us what medical terminology words mean. I have a big med term book I had to get out trying to watch some other videos but you remind us as you go so we can stay on topic and not get lost. Superb job.

    This has helped me confirm some muscle imbalances I have been self diagnosing. Imbalance due to a deadlift accident almost 8 years ago. My erector spinae on right side of my body is extremely weak compared to opposite side. Been rehabing slowly using a glute-ham raise, superman holds, back extensions, high rep/low weight good mornings, jefferson curls. Very slow controlled eccentric/concentric. I try and do some of these exercises in a way that it will isolate my right side but it's tricky sometimes. The video is very helpful in giving my understanding and function of the group. Thanks!

    • @SamWebster
      @SamWebster  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Michael Lee Good luck. Yeah, it sounds like you’ll be needing lots of high quality, single sided exercises. I’m doing the same for my hips to try to rebalance my posterior chain.

    Very good style, intelligent fellow. Although I'm a layman on anatomy I can say that the constant pain is simple but the relationships between the causes (back, respiration, rib cage alignment, core, hips) combine to make a complex puzzle that cause millions mental fatigue from all those zaps and jabs. So, students shouldn't begrudge the subject too much, its a heavy hitter in more ways than one!
    To put it in perspective:
    After a few years of what i used to call "oh, me back!" I corrected it to the less fashionable "aah, me hips". Discovering the possible contribution from QL made some improvement, I am now considering whether "oh, me back!" may be closer to the truth. My latest search is into the erector spinae, which has led me here.
    The zaps arent so bad as at least they tend to hit and its over. The trickiest element is the injection like jab received about a third of the way between the top of the iliac crest down the butt over to the side. I get this on both left and right cheeks (this may be due to two separate injuries). These jabs occur all day long, to the point where you begin to weigh up the pros and cons of most simple movements and tasks you perform throughout the day. As soon as you lean forward over a sink or a car bonnet or bend slightly to pick something up, it gives you the nip. It feels like a cord passes from the mid-back over the iliac crest and is tethered somewhere in the glutes. When you bend and start putting weight on the back, rather than the thighs, that cord then complains immediately. It is probably worse when on your knees because you are unable to take much load on your thighs. I have come across quite a few people who describe it this way, but surprisingly the solution is a much harder search.

    having just had lumbar spinal stenosis surgically treated ( L3-5) I now understand why the recovery is accompanied by excruciating pain....cutting thru the many muscle layers to get to the inner core of the spine to remove osteophytes etc which was compressing spinal cord. recovery slow but steady.

    Quick question: You mentioned that, because there is a serratus posterior inferior that there must be a serratus posterior superior. Can i assume that if a muscle is named (maybe not related to its position relative to something else but in its actual name) with "inferior" or "superior" that there is a similar muscle to compliment it as given with the serratus posterior muscles? or is this one of a few cases where this happens? Thank you whether you decide answer this question or not as i'm loving these videos.

    Whever i get up for my chair or bend over, when i start to straighten up i get a sharp pain across middle of my back, i then have to stop myself and resit or rise slowly to stop from 'locking up' and when i get up i have a dull ache across the top of my buttocks/waistline similar to sciatica. I get pain from neck down to butt and either side.

    thank you, Sam! Iºm not a professional at all. Iºm trying to find a muscle, or muscles that could widen (? make it wider) the spaces between the vertebraes is there specific ones to do that? To strech the spine upwards? Would that be the ªtransversal spinal musclesª youºve mentioned in this video? would you have specific videos on the muscles I need to know?

    Anatomy is the study of body parts which are bones, muscles, eyes, heart, stomach, skin, brain, diaphragm, nerves, vessels, glands, etc. But Antonym is the opposite word.
