The previous gen M3 and M4 CS and GTS have 19's on the front to stop understeer caused by the low profile 20's. They steer and generally handle better with 19's on the front. However, the clerance to the front brakes (specially carbon ceramics) were extremely tight. With that said, there are pros and cons with a staggered setup.
My M2c has similar wheels idk the m#s but after graphene coating them (diy) I can clean with just a pressure washer 😁 As a side note please always buy the OEM BMW * marked Michelin tires. Tyre Reviews did a video where the * marked are almost as fast as Cup 2s
Exactly why my new tires on my 2022 M240i are 22mm bigger in diameter(285/35/19 and 240/45/19). The only issue is slight rub lock to lock on front with 12mm spacer and H&r springs.
I'm the weird one over here wondering why anyone would run wheels larger than 19's on a sedan or coupe. If it's something that is mostly tracked & barely street driven, that's one thing. But at least 50% of the roads I'm on REQUIRE 35 sidewall MINIMUM.
I got 21 Inch Hamann Evo Anniversary Wheels on my F83 M4 and it looks stuning. Downside is that i need in the back 305 or 295 tires & they really are expensive. Handling wise it really is okey. I'm not a track guy or something. i like some curvy roads, german autobahn & doing burnouts/drifting and stuff. for burnouts the tires in the back are perfect gripwise. all in all i can't sell them because of the sexy look tbh haha.
The M-performance wheels (I have the bronze ones) in the back are 21” and came with Yokohamas v107 on my car. I really like the setup and the tires are fine on track.
Only put 21' on Audi SUV's or VW, BMW M3 20 at the back 19 at the front or boxed 20 20 - 21' is overkill and ride will be extremely uncomfortable. Best wheels in my opinion are Edelweiss LT3's based in germany
3.0 Mk5 Supras came with 19s from factory. I upgraded them to TE37SL but same 19 inch diameter for tremendous weight reduction with zero compromise and volks are super easy to clean compared to the thin 10 spoke oem wheels. The g80/g82 wheels look like a nightmare to keep clean. I would have replaced those quickly myself if I had one.
Different diameter rims f/r is used by Porsche and many supercars (and also.on the M4 GTS). It helps balance the handling f/r and give a good compromise for what you want your front tires to do vs what you want from your rear tires. Explained in brief by BMW M in one of their pre G8x launch videos: th-cam.com/video/nvsyMYbJ-FQ/w-d-xo.html
Man BMW has been running staggered wheels on the M series for a long time , I remember with the E90 M3 GT4 car the teams that ran it actually chose to run just the rear tire on all corners to counter the understeer coming from a smaller slick tire in the front than the slick tire in the back.
I'm coming from 22's on a 300c to 20's on my 650i xDrive and it is definitely taking me some tire to get used to the look. 245/35/20's up front. I hit a pothole and blew out a tire. Now I am thinking about going to a 245/40/20 in the front and a 275/35/20 in the rear for that added sideway protection. I'm just not sure that the wheel-well will accommodate the larger tires...
I can’t believe you didnt do an install video on the AST springs!! You have the best DIYs and i get my car soon and AST springs are my first mod and wish you had a video for em!
I went down to 18" on my F80 since the widest range of 200tw tires is there. 19" in the rear is a good choice for wider 300+ tires as long as you're going to stagger.
Even with 300+ tires you could probably still get away with an 18x11. Only problem is finding a decent offset and design. Don't think they make 18x11 forged but flow-forged is a good compromise if the roads aren't like Detroit
The overall diameter and contact patch don't change (not meaningfully anyway, most tires have slightly different diameter and width even for the same size), just the ratios of wheel size and sidewall height. You can't just change the overall wheel diameter in a modern car, that would throw off the computers and probably cause a bunch of issues. Changing the tire compound, tire width, offset and sidewall height will of course change the setup of the car, but that's the point of tuning. You just have to make an informed decision about how your car's handling characteristics might change.
That comment at 6:14 is literally my headache everytime i wash my m4. I hate how long it takes to clean the wheels. It literally does feel longer than washing the whole car.
Personally the factory wheels look better to me but that is just me. But I understand you track the car so smaller and lighter is very important. I would want a new front bumper just to get rid of the pig snout.
I understand how people complain about having to clean their vehicles? Unless your collecting it and storing it away you shouldn’t complain. Its inevitable.
Should have slapped a set of TE37SL on it even EASIER to clean can't go wrong with an OG wheel plus it is an OG design, not a generic copy of an existing wheel
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻, Looks good. That's a great idea, lowering even more the center of gravity, that's how I think too, being a lighter wheel and all. Your car will definitely be faster now...
Another question, doesn’t it mess up the odd reading when wheels are upgraded in size…..my current F30 LCI 330e has 19” and dealership service team asked me not to upgrade to 20” since my care was calibrated to 19” when built! Thanks
I always thought it’s not a good idea to have staggered wheels on All Wheel Drives, equal distribution of power, unless they come staggered from the factory to handle bigger rear wheels/tire, unless you have have an Audi RS3 where the front tires are wider to get rid of their terminal understeer.
These cars come with staggered wheels and tires from the factory, both in turns of widths and diameters. As long as you carefully select tires with xDrive you can run staggered setups. Square fitments do make tire selection easier though. -Tom
Thnk you. Cuz. I WAS gonna get 21s. I have the zcp wheels on the f82 and there are a NIGHTMARE to clean. And way more expensive then they're worth I think
Nice rims!! Looks good! I have a G83 M4 and I like the stock set up and the staggered look is sexy in my opinion. The factory rims are definitely a pain to clean but I do like the look 👀.
Keep in mind that due to very high oil prices, performance tire prices exploded to $350-400 each. So look for holiday sales. There are also severe tire shortages in some sizes due to supply chain issues. 35 profile tires have a lot of sidewall. HaHa No.....Not for New York/New Jersey. 285/295 F/R is OK....but you might need to go wider in the rear as HP increases. X-Drive limits your options. Should have gone gold finish in the APEX Forged Wheels, since it goes so well with Isle of Man Green. Gotta ceramic coat the wheels and go ceramic brake pads for easier wheel cleaning. #TheStraightPipes recommend Continental Performance Tires, so obviously do the opposite. JK HaHa. Bryan went #FullThorRagnarok with Stan Lee on that haircut. Ouch!
Hi, Need your help please….I booked my G20 LCI MSport pro pack 330e. Unfortunately here in the UK there is no option for the 50 Jahre M badges or display key . Tow queries please - 1. Is it very difficult to remove the badges and replace them with genuine M 50 years badges or should I leave it factory! 2. Is a display key compatible with the G20 LCI. Many thanks, Rajiv.
Hi maybe we could help you with this question? i have f30 Xdrive in this moment i use tyres 225/40/19 and 255/35/19 I wanted to put higher tires like 255/45/19 and 255/40/19 won't it hurt that 4x4 Xdrive?:) maybe you have an example of who used such images on the f30 thank you
That’s because they had to over engineer the rs6 suspension system to offset how bad the ride would be otherwise. You as a the consumer will pay for it with your wallet when the system breaks at some point.
As far as I can see in the video, you have the wrong tire dimensions on the 21-inch rim. you can clearly see that this wheel is higher than the other two because the tire cross-section corresponds to that of the 20 inch. no wonder you ripped off your wheel arch paneling.
Running 20 inch HRE classic 305s on my G80. Looks amazing on it. Wrapped in Michelin ps4s
My M2c has similar wheels idk the m#s but after graphene coating them (diy) I can clean with just a pressure washer 😁

21"options are for G30 5 series and up.

Did u get 20s up front?
yes@@KiNG-tx9je
20"/19" look insane. I prefer the staggered look and with RWD manual def the larger wider back wheel is nice
Love the look of the VS-5RS on your G80. Satin Black was a great move. Enjoy the wheels!
-Tom
The look lowered on 21s is so sick…. More whelk less tire is the look I love. I’d run the 21s period
Yeah...That more my style do. I'm never going down in wheel size

Hands down the best looking wheels. Love the concave

Just casually showing a McLarren, but the BMW stays the star of the show - this is why I love these guys 😊
Looks super Clean, super aggressive
Don’t sleep on them DSWs!💪❤️ Great choice broski!
Meatier tires>>>rubber bands. best way to go. Great choice for the car in my opinion

The factory BMW wheels are the best looking wheels they have ever made imo. Love them on mine. I have the bi-color version tho, which looks fantastic.
apex for the win can’t go wrong!
They look amazing 🔥
Those wheels look so good on that bwm!bumper!! Also thanks for the advice.
When you first put the new rims I loved them BUT the rim size was a tad to big BUT IDC
I LOVE KIES
I have Apex VS-5RS wheels for my F80 M3 in brushed clear. I absolutely LOVE these wheels!
Thanks for picking up a set!
-Tom
Post a vid!
19s all around?... very interesting!!! I may give it a try, the more i think about it the more sense it makes!
Man BMW has been running staggered wheels on the M series for a long time , I remember with the E90 M3 GT4 car the teams that ran it actually chose to run just the rear tire on all corners to counter the understeer coming from a smaller slick tire in the front than the slick tire in the back.
this channel is good for M owner, keep it up the good works ✌️

Amazing! I went with BCF 5 spoke. Super easy to clean.
never heard of a staggered wheel setup before? pretty sure the McLaren has the same 19F/20R setup
I can’t believe you didnt do an install video on the AST springs!! You have the best DIYs and i get my car soon and AST springs are my first mod and wish you had a video for em!

The 826m's are definitely a paine to clean. Them Apex's 🤩🤩🤩🤩 look incredible
re: "DON'T BUY 21 INCH WHEELS" oh I'm buying them pal and you can't stop me...!!! #21SFORLIFE
Looking good! Time to hit the track!
look brilliant those alloys best choice
And here I am thinking 19’s are too big for me 😅😆
Same! I'm not sure what kind of roads other people are driving on, but here in South Jersey I'm likely never messin with less than a 35 sidewall.
The 18s on your 340 were sick. You wish you would have gotten 18s on your gts instead of 19?
Apex for the win for sure 👌👌
The reason why bugger wheels are at the back is for more contact on the road for acceleration
I believe the 19” in front are to help with the turning radius.. doing u-turns with bigger wheels on a sedan would be as bad as it is in a truck 🤷♂️

Tire brand/model SPECS determine ride “feel”. Sidewall is minor issue.
Would the benefits in ride confort, tire size / availability, and performance continue if you went with 18's
The smaller the better in every way, yes
Popular set up; bigger wheels always go in the back.
ive been running those same tires since i got my bmw . im on my second set
Personally the factory wheels look better to me but that is just me. But I understand you track the car so smaller and lighter is very important. I would want a new front bumper just to get rid of the pig snout.
Great information!!
What oil brand do you recomend for an F82 (17).
Looks fantastic! Is there a video with what you do to the suspension of this car?
Green is currently running AST springs
Alright Bryan, let’s do it for mine 😂
Just because how easy they are to clean
I understand how people complain about having to clean their vehicles? Unless your collecting it and storing it away you shouldn’t complain. Its inevitable.
Should have slapped a set of TE37SL on it
even EASIER to clean

Pretty sure BMW knows what they are doing when they engineered this car to run the staggered set up. This isn’t their first rodeo.
Thnk you. Cuz. I WAS gonna get 21s. I have the zcp wheels on the f82 and there are a NIGHTMARE to clean. And way more expensive then they're worth I think
Love them on my F32
What camera did you use to record this?
Nice rims!! Looks good! I have a G83 M4 and I like the stock set up and the staggered look is sexy in my opinion. The factory rims are definitely a pain to clean but I do like the look 👀.

I put 19inch Aodhan Ds08 black on mines nice thick tires
I have 666 Wheels on F80, absolute nightmare to clean. They are always dirty.
Te37 for the win
Wheels just keep, getting bigger when the e46 m3 came out it had 18” wish is the norm and 19” were the option

The discomfort from the wheel size is minimum - my RS6 has 21 inch as standard, never felt uncomfortable.
That’s because they had to over engineer the rs6 suspension system to offset how bad the ride would be otherwise. You as a the consumer will pay for it with your wallet when the system breaks at some point.
21’s are fine. Question is what series sidewall. That’s everything to do with ride comfort.
Do i sit slightly higher with 19" inch tyres or is it the same when i buy 18" inch?
i like to know if run 295 35 19 with19 11width 12 0ffset all four tires would rub in front on 2023 g80 m3?
Whats the R888's tire spec on the oem bmw wheels you got there?
Who puts larger wheels up front? FWD cars?
As far as I can see in the video, you have the wrong tire dimensions on the 21-inch rim. you can clearly see that this wheel is higher than the other two because the tire cross-section corresponds to that of the 20 inch. no wonder you ripped off your wheel arch paneling.
How is a 265/35R20 front tyre like on the front and with 295/35R21 is it useable?
How wide are the 21’s and are they for sale now?
What are the weight difference between them all?
I was thinking the same thing, wish he would’ve talked about it.
Car noobs here, would it be possible to install 21inch rims on my M340xdrive which came with 19inch rims?
lmao wait till he sees my 25’ setup
Hi! Is it possible to add a 18 inch front and 19 inch rear for M3 competition 2021?
I thought that you are not chasing with lap time. It is upto people what they are looking after. Stance or Performance!
21's look too big and 19's look too small. So 20's are just right for the G8x and you have a decent amount of tire options.
Are you 20” wheels with the r888r for sale?
Niceeee
BMW goes with Continental because it is a German company as well, that's why. 😁
Which spoiler is that, the M4 style?
👍
Curious what the weight savings are
20s in the front and 19 in the back??
Stocks look better to me but it's just my little opinion
when is the f80 dyno vid
Apex in bronze/gold for 22 M240?
17 has the best comfort
I need 21” for my x5 m
I need oem 19s all around.
21" and potholes dont mix well together, don't use 21's in canada, canada roads sucks balls
Im fine with my Dunlops Direzza DZ102 235/40 R18 on my GTI, comfortable yet "sporty" on the canyons on stock Ronals
I wanna see the face of the rim😞
19-20 setup is for fast corner. americans have to learn about cornering setup.
Bigger is not always better in tires
22 inch minimum
