    Filing nails in 1 direction?
    Filing nails in 1 direction rule has been debunked a while ago.
    What matters when it comes to the finish of the free edge is a grit and not direction.
    I finish with a buffer block on the free edge so the end if beautiful and smooth. As you can see non of my clients (and myself) have any issues with peeling or damage.
    Also peeling comes from nail surface damage or nail weakness and not how the nail is filed on the end.
    Damaged nail is like a loose fabric. It is very flimsy and fraying all the time. Strong and healthy nail is like a tight fabric that is reinforced with waxes so it doesn’t fray.
    That’s why warm oil soaks are so important for damaged and peeling nails. The oil fills in spaces between the fibres keeping it all together.

    Can I express once again just how much I love this channel. I never go wrong following your advice. Warm oil nail soaks are the 'not so secret' weapon to my nails becoming healthy and strong. Once a week I soak them in jojoba or sunflower oil for 5-10 minutes. My nails thank you Anna.

    I just wanted to thank you because I've never felt like getting fake nails, it's just not me. But then my natural nails were absolute shite. Thin, bendy, brittle, peely you name it. I could never keep my nails nice and beautiful for more than 3 weeks without them breaking and catching onto something because I use my hands a lot.
    Then I found you and though I am not doing an oil bath, I started moisturizing my bare nails with argan oil everyday or multiple times a day.
    I moisturized my body, my hair, my face, never occured to me that nails could be DRY lol except for the skin surrounding it. My mind is blown.
    My nails are nice and pink now, the free edge is actually a solid off white color, they are harder and stronger, smoother. They look healthy and I'm actually loving wearing nail polish. Thank you so much.

    I can’t say I had much success with the ibx treatment, but now I do the warm oil treatment and find it much more successful.
    I have also started doing a drop of oil after washing my hands to keep moisturised, plus keeping the nails short until all the damage is grown out.
    Thank you for your videos.

    I have very dry nails and they are damaged as well. I have started doing the warm oil soaks as per your recommendation in videos. In two weeks have have done 3 soaks at 10 minutes on each hand. I can already tell a huge difference. I use to get acrylic and gel nails all the time. Over time I noticed how thin my natural nails had gotten. I am on a journey now to get healthier nails 💅. Thank you for your videos. They have been extremely helpful!

    hi Anna! as a 25 year old beginner, just passed state board and will soon look for work in Salon. i’ve learned from my book and you have also made it clear what the cuticle and proximal nail fold is. i’m nervous about working in salon/among other techs, being brand new and having this knowledge and choosing not to cut the living skin. i don’t want to come off as snobby like i know it all but i refuse to cut the pnf as part of prep and considering how popular it is among other techs, i’m just wondering how i can go about it without rubbing anyone the wrong way. i’ve posted a few nail sets and also reposted your picture about the pnf and how we are not supposed to cut it and my fellow nail techs did not like or comment but do on my nail pics…. i want to continue talking about it but i know other techs get annoyed by it, how can i find community?

    Awesome video, Anna! Thank you so much. I loved the suggestions at the end for intensive nail treatment options and maintenance! I have learned SO MUCH, I can't tell you how grateful I am. Looking forward to more content and yes! please continue to follow up on this client's progress, I'd love to see how long term treatment and maintenance ala Anna looks! Thanks again from Toronto.

    I Love the education you give on your video’s. I really like the cautions you give about the electric drill. I see a lot of posts in Fb where people use the e file and a lot of pictures of damaged skin. People often don’t think about the training and practice that goes into learning how to use e files. I had a nail tech that only used the e file on the free edge of acrylics because she hadn’t been trained in their use yet. Also, I think one thing non nail tech people don’t think about is that a nail tech needs to use an e file as much as possible because of the harm the repetitive motion that hand filing can and will do to the nail tech’s arm, shoulder, back etc.

    This comes at a perfect time for me. I was gifted some gel polish and decided to try it for the first time on my nails. I left it for 4 days before gently removing it but my nails got very dry and lightly damaged I think. So I was thinking of doing IBX . I've also seen that doing IBX before putting on the gel polish will protect your natural nail.

    • @TheSalonLife

      Thats the best route (no polish). Polish itself can contribute to the damage especially if there is present damage. Once the nail is more resilient (after the oil soaks) it will be less prone to damage.

    First time watching, and wow, I so appreciate all the information you gave. I have been worried about soaking in Acetone. Mainly feeling like my skin is soaking it up, so thank you for your response to it. I’m in Phoenix Arizona and joined a group for Nailboo, it sells kits for dip powder. They often speak of Dip Flu from the liquids. Myself, I wear a mask of course that doesn’t eliminate the strong odor from the liquids. I’m hoping it helps in some way. What is your take on this?

    This is great! After watching I don't think my nails would need IBX after all (which is good). I will continue to do the hot oil soaks weekly, oil, oil, oil, lotion, lotion, lotion, Kerasal and temporarily stop with the polish. I have a few very unhappy nails, mainly my right hands thumb, index and middle fingers as well as my left thumb from using my nails as tools/scrapers and not being good at using gloves! They keep flaking on the free edge (and a little further down on my index finger) so I've been keeping my nails super short so I'm not tempted to pick at the pieces that want to chip off. My non problem nails are hard, but don't bend, I don't think that's great either but they aren't chipping/flaking/peeling, but the ridges they do have aren't as pronounced.
    Thank you again for all of your help!

My nail ridges are driving me crazy as I hate the dry feel in the nails. Can you recommend any kind of clear nail polish which won’t cause further damage? I have also purchased the CND Rxxx waiting to see results. Thank you

    I’m curious if this treatment burns when it goes under the light? I’m doing the CND Nail Rescue RX but still have some splitting of my nails. Keeping them reasonably short and no polish but I feel like I’m getting more splitting since I haven’t had polish on.

    Do you have any recommendations on psoriasis nails? I'm diagnosted by a dermatologist and have to use a cortisone solution to rub in my nail matrix and my hyponochium as a first try. It's on every finger on both of my hands. I'm quite open about it, but sometimes I would love to wear nail polish. Do you think it's ok?

    As a guitar player I’ve had decades of issues with my thin peeling nails, despite a very healthy diet; they only got better when I started taking 2-4Tbs of collagen a day and upped my protein to 100g per day did my nails finally get strong and healthy.

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dean! Nails are made of protein mostly so low protein intake might be an issue. The evidence on collagen supplementation have been a little conflicting. I’m not sure collagen helps the nails.

    I love you channel so much !! You provide such amazing nail advice. Since watching your channel I started using dazzle dry and I really love it. Have you ever heard of the “ le mini macaron “ gel nail polish ? They’re really popular here in the US and they’re suppose to be a one step system ( no base coat or top coat needed ). I’ve seen quite a few reviews online but never one by a nail professional such as yourself . Could you please do a video on them ? I’m really curious to know your thoughts and if you think they are safe enough to use by none professionals.
    Thank you 😁 much love and keep up the great work !!

      I believe this brands gel polish is made in China. To be honest I prefer gels made by USA/Canadian and European factories. I’ve heard too many cases of allergic reactions after using gels from Southeast Asia.

    Hi! I don't know if you already have one, but could you do a video about filing peeling nails? My nails are peeling just at the free edges and although I use a glass file I feel very uncertain about filing them as it feels like it just makes it worse!

    I just found you for the first time with this video. This is a blessing to me because I have nails that are very weak and peel easily. If I put on gel polish, it usually separates like a sheet from my nail, then chips off. I think my nails have something wrong with them because acryllic or gel polishes actually cause my nail to start lifting from the nail bed in places. I am wondering if this IBX treatment would help me?? I tried to look up IBX treatment near me, and I'm not finding this listed on any salon websites. Is this something I should order and attempt to do myself?

    • @tomjones2157
      @tomjones2157 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your nail bed is actually lifting that is a sign of severe allergy. You might want to switch to regular polish or maybe CND shellac. If you persist in using the gel the allergy can progress to losing entire nails and being allergic to more and more things like glue, acrylic ect.

    What does IBX stand for? One product or application of different products?

    Hello! I recently found your channel -TH-cam recommended it to me, probably because I was searching for ridged nails. I was wondering: what do you use to remove the nail polish? Thank you sooo much for making videos! I have been watching a lot of them and I am learning so much from them. Also, I find that watching your videos is very relaxing -almost as relaxing as getting an actual manicure! Thank you again! ✌🏼💖

      Hello Yvette. I use pure acetone. Acetone gets a lot of hate meanwhile it's the polish that damages the surface of the nails:

      One of the ones she mentioned was jojoba in another video which I bought. It’s very nice. She recommended it because the molecule is small enough to penetrate the nail. Look under how to effectively condition dry brittle etc.

    I really love yr videos, and admire yr work. I have seen many manis on TH-cam (but not yours, thankfully) where the fold is painfully pushed back/up and then cut. And it looks very irritated after the mani is done. Also heard that this cutting of the fold, will make it grow back stronger and stronger. If that is the case, is it possible to reverse this problem?

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes for sure, if the skin is cut, it will develop a sort of scab and when that is done on a regular bases the skin hardens to protect itself.
      If you start protecting and caring for the skin it will eventually soften up.
      You can definitely reverse it.
      Just like callus. When you stop wearing the shoes that give you the callus or a corn the callus eventually softens up especially when certain skin care is used (urea and lactic acid or salicylic acid are very helpful)

    Hi, your channel has been a godsend to me in healing my chewed up hands. Thank you so much for sharing this foundational knowledge of nail care. I especially love that PDF chart of the parts of the nail. It helps me be more mindful and kind to my nails.
    I would like to request that you enable search on your channel's home page. I don't know why, but every home page used to have the search feature, so you could type in a key word (such as "Orly" or "pedicure") and find a video within the channel. I think now the channel owner has to enable it. It would be a big help.
    Also, I've just learned about the pedicure videos on Mr. SL, but they don't seem to be linked or even have the same name so I can search. What did you find out? Did the nitrocellulose cause yellowing? Is the experiment over?
    Thanks again for the great work you do!

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much for your comment, I just came across it!
      I think there should be search on the main page but it's not up to us but TH-cam makes these features available.
      The search option searches by the titles of the videos so if you search MSL you won't find anything because there is nothing titled MSL.
      Nitrocellulose does cause yellowing for sure.
      I have all the manicures of this client filmed, I have to edit them and I don't know how... every video separate or some kind of compilation.... it's overwhelming
