- Trying to understand the difference between Monocarbon and Fluorocarbon fishing line? Asking yourself if Fluorocarbon is really worth it? Well, this video gives an honest answer to both of these questions.
Also, in this video, we'll discuss the pricing of mono vs. fluoro, their ideal usage, and how they are used with different species. We even compare the difference between northern boats, which are often in green water, and southern boats, which are generally in more blue water fishing in the Gulf Stream.

Salt strong did the tests over and over and mono beat flouro in every test where the test strength was the same. Quit blowing money on flouro.
This another one like the reel video. It depends on the situation. Up north we have major water quality issues with color and clean. I gotta carry literally a ridiculous amount of leader material on most days cause I can be in dirty green water and a mile later it's clear and blue. Especially early season. Neither is better. Both have their optimal conditions to be fished. I have started using allot of single strand especially when I'm flying the kite. Now that kings and wahoo are super common in summer

Lies. All lies. Flurocarbon costs alot more and makes these ppl more $. The only claim that flora carbon makes that is true is that it is heavier than water.Everything else is horse hockey

My personal belief is that mono is structurally better than fluorocarbon. However, fluoro is less visible and more sensitive so I will sacrifice some integrity to get more bites. In my experience, fluoro simply gets more bites than mono.

Hey Marcus, Happy Easter to the speechless crew, I fish up north Hudson to veecha Cayon and inshore .I always use floro just for the same reason the professor explained.
I fish a lot of pilings, riprap, boiler rock for So Cal bass sand, Calico, Bay Bass they are structure oriented and I have better luck with mono seems to be more abrasion resistant, only in the winter when fishing slows down I consider fluro just to many broken leaders in salt and fresh. When I do fish fluro I caught off 8-10” after every fish and re-tie. It’s a hassle.
What about fluorocarbon stretching and getting weaker?
Fluorocarbon fishing line has very little stretch and isn't as visible as monofilament line. The only offerings are feel and slightly better abrasion resistance than braid.
@gungadinn checkout the multiple line testing videos on Salt Strongs channel. Mono beats Fluro on strength, abrasion and visibility, there's no difference. I've caught some of my biggest fish on Mono

I personally don't use any fluorocarbon line. The coast off of Virginia, Maryland and Delaware has a lot of organic material that doesn't allow for great visibility.
Until maybe 15 years ago, I used straight monofilament, when I persuaded to use some braid for additional line capacity.

@gungadinn strength for Mono is stronger then fluro. Repeated stretching and total strength. Salt strong has a ton of actual test from a non biased point of view. Not just a video of someone talking about the difference. Actual testing
Besides the price and toughness of monofilament line, a huge advantage is the number quality manufacturers and number of colors that the line is available in.
For mid-Atlantic fishing, I tend to use Hi-Seas Quattro four color camo line. The colors are all earth tones and blend into the waters that murky with suspended plant life.
South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, a line like Ande with their Back Country in light blue to Monster, the royal blue line.
Seeing how you might be talking 100-150 yards of topshot, stripping one line off and install another only takes minutes.
IMO, fluorocarbon has a place, but I don't think it's the end all, be all line.
