California plates are required to be reflective, so a police officer that knows that law (which I am willing to bet it's nearly none) will know that the carbon fiber would be illegal. The black California plates do reflect but not very well. If you were to wrap your white plates with the black and yellow I do not think the police would be able to tell .
It’s not legal! You can receive a citation and have your plates confiscated. You can not put any covering on the plate . You have to remember, you don’t own the plate the state owns it

offroad - exhibition only would be best. even tho we are trying to get our old faded plates to look more presentable and clear for the officers to read. they are using this as an excuse to get their income. I would think it would wrong if your changing numbers or covering the number so it can not be read. but people are using this method so its MORE visible for them to do their job. but I guess its all business as usual.

He's talking about how people jigger their plates to make them deliberately dirtier or spray them with clear crinkle paint to break up the reflectivity. It's a $1000, non-fixit ticket. And you can bet chippies know their plate rules and will give tickets to their mothers.

Im not really sure. But this is great for custom cars and race cars. Many have done black and yellow and black and white. As long as its clear to read from far. Mostly luxury street cars have done it.
I seen on DMV it doesnt say decorating or no altering the plate,, it states to keep clean and reflective and replace if damaged. nothing about vynle wrap.. You cannot alter a California license plate vehicle code 4464. You cannot alter the original markings on the plate. If a cop runs the plate they will know if it was an issued white plate or a black plate. You're going to get fined it's not worth the time or money. Not good to be putting videos out here like this.
is this legal? i heard youre not legally allowed to alter your plate. if this is for off street use like car shows, problem is people use this for street use too. i wouldnt do anything any time to alter a plate that could very well get me a fix it ticket. why change your plate for show only to have to undo it for the street? seems like a waste of money. you are encouraging people to alter their plates and then get tickets. you know people. they are forgetful and some dont care about the laws.

A good friend for over $1000 fine in CA for having vinyl wrapped plates. CA does not allow modifications of any type and its not a fix it ticket. If you have money to burn...be my guest.
That is correct. This wrap is cool for show cars while exhibition and Off-Road use. I had to do it for my plates cuz my plates are more than more than 37 yrs old and paint was wearing off. I just wanted it to be more legible for police to read.

My friend had this done. Looks nice. Unfortunately the CHP did not agree and cited him for altering a license plate. California vehicle code 4464.

I've seen people glue leafs and try to cover one numbers with white tape... Thats just shady.

Its not recommended for street use. Great for showcase during exhibition.

I have a digital file link available on the description. But I used a caliper to get precise sizing.
