It’s 30 seconds with a screw driver and then they become invisible by taking the plates off. 2: Safety - as the news anchor mentioned, the retro and temporary plates are not reflective. In fact the entire car should be reflective to a degree, but it’s not illegal to get a matte paint job. 3: Other states have front plate laws - this is not an argument. Almost half of the states don’t require it. Of those that do, many do not even consider it a primary offense, so you cannot get pulled over for it. The real reason, is MONEY. It is literally a tax for rich people that just want to avoid drilling holes in their $80k car.

I know people in CA who yell at government vehicles calling them 'law breakers' when they don't have front license plates. There have been videos on YT where auditors were standing at a law enforcement exit or entrance point saying it to the personnel vehicles coming and exiting the facility.
Government vehicles also run red lights don’t follow the same rules although it should be common law go past the speed limit all the time, regardless of safety issues and yet we’re supposed to give them a pass when they should be the example!! yeah no
@@richardjeun Of course not. They're legally exempt under the California Vehicle Code. They don't have to pay registration fees either. Take a closer look at one the next time you see it on the road. Notice the "E" inside the circle on the license plate? That means it's a legally exempt government vehicle under state law. No emissions inspection and no registration fees are required of such vehicles. You'll see it on transit buses and transit agency vehicles too, since they're considered public service agencies. I think the only place we could'nt park was in a handicapped parking area. Other than that, we pretty much parked wherever, and the cops and parking enforcement people never messed with us.
And yet somehow close to 20% of all the cars I see on the road are missing their front plates... It seems like ever since COVID, the cops don't care about small infractions anymore.

Fuuuuck no it ain’t for no safety feature or them to help you retrieve your car. It’s for them to scan and identify the vehicle and read your plates when they can’t see from the back
I remember some years ago. The license plates were fading or peeling very quickly. When the state checked into it. It turned out that the guy in charge with painting the license plates had finally finished his prison time. The prisoner that took over was doing something different so the paint wasn’t lasting very long. But modern paint is crap compared to old paint. For your house and car.
The last one he's wrong California allows the black and yellow (legacy) license plate at an extra fee every year you choose to have it and you can personalize it as well. Now the new white and black I'm not sure if they r allowed or the vertical plates on motorcycles.
The real reason why They want you to have both Back in front license plates It's for the sole purpose if they need to mail you a ticket for an infraction they have a way to identify you. Remember finish cameras on the light poset and sometimes the
Personalized plates, specialty plates and disabled plates belong to whom they are issued. Also, YOM (year of manufacture) plates which are popular amongst classic car and truck enthusiasts are the sole property of the owner and no longer the state's. CA DMV has a whole separate office and program that supports the YOM plate titling and registration process. I helped my Dad get a set for and get registered to his 1930 Ford Model A.
It’s state law in California to have front and rear license plates, if the citizens don’t like having front plates, petition the state legislature to change the law, it’s not the cops fault, they don’t make the laws.
That's true, but the cops ARE responsible for telling the truth to the public, which this one did not do!!!!! How he managed to stay with the CHP for 25+ years like that, I don't know!!!! ("How do you know he's been with the CHP for 25 years?", you say. I notice things. Look at the hash bars on the lower portion of his uniform shirt sleeve. Each one represents 5 years of service with the agency. He has 5 of those hash bars. Simple preschool math tells us that 5x5=25, thus at least 25 years with the CHP.)
I have a Tesla, they're shipped with a plate mount and an extra plate, but the sales centers just say it's up to you if you want to mount it or not. Flagrantly breaking the law.
@@supraphonic88nteresting. Back in 2004, we went back to the Mercedes dealer to get it screwed in. Could have just done it myself, but they didn’t provide screws. Years later we got a note that MB USA lost a class action lawsuit, and that we were entitled to get the plate mounted for free. 😂 Somebody was likely ticketed and then looking for a paycheck. So, some lawyer can go ahead make some $$ off Tesla in CA. They will settle that quickly, given the precedent.
I'm so glad I left the state of California....moved to a state that only issues one plate, no worries about tint, and straight piped my whip with no hassles.....😊
I worked on wind tunnel testing for 2 years. Front license plates can cause, for some cars, as much as 5% more gasoline useage at freeway speeds. This leads to more gasoline used or more electricity used for the car and is bad for the environment. Why does a state like California that cares so much about the environment still put a front license plate on all cars causing millions of gallons of extra gasoline to be burned every year? It would be a lot better for the environment if California follow the lead of most states and no longer require a front license plate.
In massachusetts they issue you two plates the one in the back gets the sticker showing the year and that it’s registered the one in front has no sticker,I don’t think you’re required to have one in front because I see lots of cars with plates from their team etc and if they cannot read your plate from a certain distance ( faded) the RMV will gave you new plates free
Are the laws of the People's Republic of Socialist Kalifornia meant for everyone? Or, as usual, certain races are exempt from compliance with the laws?
I did a count of how many cars have a front license plate vs no front license plate. Out of 100 total cars, 85 had them, and 15 did not. That's almost one car out of every six without front license plates. Police gonna write tickets for all those people now?
For the price we pay for tags and plates we should be getting custom plates for free each year plates are done in jails for pennies on the dollar how much it’s their real cost for plastic tags It’s should be better not worst every timr
Like tinted windows, this isn’t usually something you’d get pulled over for. If you get pulled over for speeding or something else, then they may issue you a fix it ticket for a missing front license plate. I’ve never had one on any of my cars, then I got a new car many years ago and just left it one. Then someone backed into my car while parked and broke the bracket and I just left it off. Never had an issue with police and have pulled up behind many.
California also targets states that only issue a single plate. They will stop and harass even though the registered out of state vehicle is only issued a single plate and does not issue a second front plate.
So why can’t they stop all these car thieves? Do the STATs, number of cars stolen and how many thieves captured with front license plates by state cops? How many cars rescued because of front license plates????? Remember what he said they are just to ID you.
How about tinted windows? I mean darkest tint and they are allowed. New 2024 Cross Sport and dealer mentioned they didn’t install front licenses plate unless I requested. Cool factor
You can stay in CA. Just register somewhere else. Most states will not honor any outside request to hold up your renewal. They will hold up your drivers license if suspended elsewhere though.
I had a 2013 Ford Raptor for 10 yrs with no front plate. Only time I got a ticket was when it was parked on the street in front my house. It was considered a fix it ticket so my neighbors son is a CHP, so I asked to sign off the ticket so I could mail it in to prove it had been taken care of. The CHP said don't put it back on, Corvettes, Cameros and high end sports cars never have them. So I did what he said and never got another ticket.
I always had my cars registered in California and I have been Driving in California without a front License Plate over 40 years I've been pulled over 3 times for speeding from the California Highway Patrol and not once have they said anything about me not having a front license plate or limo tinted windows front and back.My front license plate is a plate that says Ranger that I bought when I was in the Army .The only authority that said something to me about not having a front plate was a Border Patrol Agent at the San Diego/Tijuana border crossing as I'm driving back to the US from Mexico. They stand in a booth then type in your license plate as you drive up to the booth ,He was probably mad because he had to walk out of the booth and walk to the back of my car to check my license plate. All he said to me was you know you are required to have a front plate on your car,I said ok and then he just waved me on through.
You know, I love how all of these people are sitting up there on their high horses all smug and arrogant with that big chip on their shoulders going, "Oh, I've been driving in California for XXX years without a front license plate, and I've never been stopped!!!" What's your point? Do you think that the fact that you've been getting away with it for whatever period of time you have means that somehow you are not in violation of the law? WRONG!!!! You ARE in violation of the law; I don't give a s**t if you've been doing it for 100 years, and Section 5200 of the California Vehicle Code does'nt care either!!! The law is the law!!!! The fact that you have'nt been cited for it as yet DOES NOT exempt you from full compliance with the law!!! And I get that some of you may not like that law; fine. Lobby your state representatives to have it changed. But until such time as they do, and those changes are signed into law by the Governor, you must comply if you want to drive in California!!! Use your heads!!!!
So now, if your windows are legally tinted, you can’t stop a car that has legally tinted windows, and use it for probable cause you should’ve asked that question as well
What a bunch of propaganda. If front license plates aren't necessary in some states, they aren't necessary in any state. I love how he tries to sell the benefits to YOU. It can help recover your car! It can help us find your vehicle that has gone off the road into a ditch or lake! But that's not all! It's just like car window tinting. If it's legal in one state, it should be legal in ALL states. They want you not to have window tinting so they can look into your car and see what you're doing. They might as well tell you that you can't have curtains on your home's windows. That would allow them to stop more crime, too. They want the front tag on your car because it helps with traffic cameras and speed detection. They also have scanners on the many cop cars (and stationary, too, I imagine) that scan and run thousands of plates as they drive around. How do I know that? I bought a used car from a guy from Florida. When he moved to California, he got two plates, but there was not a place to mount the front plate on the car's bumper (it was a Florida car). So he threw the other plate away. Over a year later I got pulled over and got a "fix-it" ticket (that still cost money, by the way) for not having it. The cop who pulled me over told me about the scanners. NONE of this is for your benefit. It's must another apparatus of control and identification. Years ago, where you went in your car really only got tracked at toll booths. Soon it will be that way everywhere. Front plates are necessary for that to function optimally.
@@stevesmith756 I'm not commenting on states' rights. I'm not questioning whether states have the right to do this. I'm stating that the logic doesn't apply. If tint and no front plates are safe in one state, they are safe in all.
@@jaimeb.7537 They are making arguments based on safety and necessity. If states get by without front plates, then they obviously aren't necessary. The point is that they're trying to sell this as something that's being done to benefit you, but that's bull. There are all sorts of things you CAN do to make yourself safer. There's always a more visible color for your car, or a version or model with better braking, or better visibility, etc. The arguments made here are lame. If visibility is an issue, then just give people the option to put a nondescript reflective plate on the front of their cars. If locating the car is the issue, I'm covered. I've got GPS and AirTags for that. This is so that they can track you.
My 1974 El Camino got pulled over for having a USA-1 red, white, and blue plate up front. Got a fix-it ticket; no cost if you fix it. For reference, speeding tickets were 25 to 30 back then.
It took DMV more than a month to issue me my new vehicle licenses. The paperwork issued as temporary and expired three months after my purchase. If it’s a legal issue, the dealership should be obligated under law to make sure the vehicle is legal to drive on the road before it leaves the lot.
In CA a new law bans trivial tows and “pretextual vehicle stops,” or stops that are used as an investigative tool for something completely unrelated to the actual reason for a driver was pulled over. So an expired plate or tail light out or missing front plate cannot be used. This law was passed because people were losing their cars to the tow companies resulting in armed confrontations with police abd towers.
Similar situation developed in PA…..they were ticketing drivers for license plate frames….covered the perimeter but not the month/year/state name. The law was so detailed that you could literally get stopped and ticketed for…….. This isn’t word for word but a quick summary….. “Owners may not obscure ANY part of the license plate…. By the law that would include ….wait for it……The retaining screw that secures the plate to the vehicle……law was either changed recently or Law Enforcement agencies said…F/U Harrisburg, were not enforcing. Soon after that they went to NO stickers….plate is blank but can still be read by agencies if required…..major example is the PA Turnpike Commission for reading EZ pass transponders.
California is more concerned with extracting as much money as they can from its residents. Fuqn place has become borderline inhabitable, and they're focused on what they can fine you for.
(2) The installation of a license plate security cover is not a violation of this subdivision if the device does not obstruct or impair the recognition of the license plate information, including, but not limited to, the issuing state, license plate number, and registration tabs, and the cover is limited to the area directly over the top of the registration tabs. No portion of a license plate security cover shall rest over the license plate number.
It's more like the United Kingdom or Saudi Arabia, but people aren't generally aware of the level of surveillance in those countries. The problem with the North Korea comparison is they don't bother to even pretend you're not surveilled, and virtually nobody there can afford a car! They still have people at intersections directing traffic. There are videos on YT about it. They are always young North Korean women.
I never understood the reason for a front license plate. Are police pulling you over from the front? There are also height limits. I've gotten tickets in my lifted truck for plates to high and tickets on my lowerd truck for plates to low.
It feels like they’re announcing this as a new law people are confused about when this is literally been the rule in CA for at least 64 years, possibly 88 (depending on which vehicle code you look at). There has to be better stuff to fill the time with than this!
Dude i have been noticing so many cars without front license plates. In a simple 10 minute drive i spot nearly 10 on average. It kinda bugs me...only cuz i want to do it
If your vehicle is registered in another state, then you are required to obey the registration laws of whatever state your vehicle is registered in. If those laws conflict with California's, then there's nothing that California can do about it; the issuing state's laws take precedence. However, remember that if you move to California from another state, and you're not simply passing through or vacationing in California, the law states that you must reregister your vehicle in California within 20 days of establishing residence and/or securing employment within the state.

What's that got to do with anything?
They should have mentioned about people putting the license plate on the passenger dashboard, usually people with sports cars do that
Doesn’t do anything but draw attention and create a hazard. Keep the plate in the trunk or don’t use it
License plate on the windshield looks tacky
I wouldn't , real easy to break passenger window and have that plate wind up on a stolen car.
He said that it needs to be on the most front part of the vehicle. So that was covered.
Right.. I put my license plate in my dash and got a ticket smh
Fuuuuck no it ain’t for no safety feature or them to help you retrieve your car. It’s for them to scan and identify the vehicle and read your plates when they can’t see from the back
i got a lexus is350 2021, where do i put the front plate ?
I've had a German plate on the front of my Mercedes for years, one cop walked past it and said It looks good like that
California has a large problem with the reflective coating coming off. 2011 to 2015 issue.
Bro I have lived in Cali almsot my whole life . We ALWAYS HAD TO HAVE BOTH FRONT AND BACK LICENSE PLATE . Bro we knew that from 90210 😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
I gave 5 Ferraris a no front license plate in a week.
So how come Tesla owners do not have front plates.
The city of Beverly Hills must only supply one license plate at the time of registration
The last one he's wrong California allows the black and yellow (legacy) license plate at an extra fee every year you choose to have it and you can personalize it as well. Now the new white and black I'm not sure if they r allowed or the vertical plates on motorcycles.
Notice how he stutters when he talks about safety? Not even he believes the lies he is saying.
The real reason why They want you to have both Back in front license plates It's for the sole purpose if they need to mail you a ticket for an infraction they have a way to identify you. Remember finish cameras on the light poset and sometimes the
More important is the Lack of enforcement of cars with either No plates or a fake paper one. I see cars like this daily.
“Some people might not like the look”. Perhaps you would like the look of a ticket or the inside of a courtroom instead?”
I see cars with (front) plates from other states with no tags and not hassled
the law does not apply to out of state
The Judges, District attorneys, etc all get away with only having a rear plate!
What about teslas????
how to identify a corrupt cop when off duty: no front plate, illegal window tint. lousy thugs on welfare.
What cop slept with your wife lol
I’m so glad I’m active duty military 🤣🤣
Tesla cars don’t have front plates
I have a Tesla, they're shipped with a plate mount and an extra plate, but the sales centers just say it's up to you if you want to mount it or not. Flagrantly breaking the law.

Somebody was likely ticketed and then looking for a paycheck. So, some lawyer can go ahead make some $$ off Tesla in CA. They will settle that quickly, given the precedent.
I’m looking at a California highway patrol vehicle right now and it doesn’t have a front license plate. Rules for me, but not for them

They get more money when the lidar hits on the front plate.
I don't disagree with you, but good luck getting a liberal-a** state like California to change the laws.
How does a license plate belong to the state if you paid for it?
Well said
In massachusetts they issue you two plates the one in the back gets the sticker showing the year and that it’s registered the one in front has no sticker,I don’t think you’re required to have one in front because I see lots of cars with plates from their team etc and if they cannot read your plate from a certain distance ( faded) the RMV will gave you new plates free
Are the laws of the People's Republic of Socialist Kalifornia meant for everyone? Or, as usual, certain races are exempt from compliance with the laws?
Who put him up to this? FBI,CIA, DOJ.
Are we allowed to have it on the dash board??
no
I did a count of how many cars have a front license plate vs no front license plate.
I see alot of Teslas with no front plates ‼️‼️CHP do you damn job and give them all tickets ‼️‼️
Tesla does not provide the attachment for the front license plate.
“You shall not put any coding “ lol
How about all government vehicles become compliant with all state laws including emergency V&T laws. Digital plates are a tracking device
Remember what he said they are just to ID you.
you can get a black and gold personalized plate for any car
Fancy cars owners do not like to put front license plates. Do they get punished for that?

Um heard of individual states rights?
@@stevesmith756 I'm not commenting on states' rights. I'm not questioning whether states have the right to do this. I'm stating that the logic doesn't apply. If tint and no front plates are safe in one state, they are safe in all.
What about if it's required in some states, should it be required in all states too?
Yes it’s BS but states can dictate what is in there vehicle code. It’s not federal law it’s a state law
Boo your law that's for camera on the street so easily can give you a ticket without police officers thanks me later or plan B get out of Cali asap
When was this law made? There was a time when it was legal to leave it off, something like before 1985.
They ARE.
What about license plates with different colors? Are those legal?
In CA a new law bans trivial tows and “pretextual vehicle stops,” or stops that are used as an investigative tool for something completely unrelated to the actual reason for a driver was pulled over. So an expired plate or tail light out or missing front plate cannot be used. This law was passed because people were losing their cars to the tow companies resulting in armed confrontations with police abd towers.
Most cops don’t know this law themselves lol

What about out of state vehicle?
If your vehicle is registered in another state, then you are required to obey the registration laws of whatever state your vehicle is registered in. If those laws conflict with California's, then there's nothing that California can do about it; the issuing state's laws take precedence. However, remember that if you move to California from another state, and you're not simply passing through or vacationing in California, the law states that you must reregister your vehicle in California within 20 days of establishing residence and/or securing employment within the state.
