This week we've got more rumors about Sony's upcoming PlayStation Showcase, and the PS5 Pro! It seems like the GPU might be just a tad better than what we initially heard. And with that showcase right around the corner, we could be seeing some fresh announcements soon. Elsewhere in the week, we have the aftermath of the Helldivers 2 PSN linking controversy, and a lengthy interview with a Media Molecule Co-Founder. But also, a lot of turmoil and unrest in the Microsoft camp. With the close competitor shutting down studios, we're hearing more PS5 releases are being considered. I myself was considering what came first, the chicken or the egg? That's not a news story per se, just something that rattles around the ol' noggin from time to time.

Tango were shutdown after making Hi-Fi Rush, but 343 are still around after Halo 4 and 5 lmao
Xbox don’t know how to manage their studios. Hi-Fi Rush is a great game and Halo hasn’t been good for years.
It has been clear for a long time that the Xbox management (including Phil Spencer, despite the constant claims that he's a "real" gamer) can't tell a good game from a bad game if their lives depended on it.
Crazy how the real “halo killer” was halo itself
They set the standard for LBOx ‘greatness!’😂
@@scheung14 Halo infinite was a pretty great single player experience. Multiplayer part is NOW apparently pretty good, which took WAY too long, but I don't think you can really say "halo hasn't been good for years" anymore. It's just not masterpiece-level anymore, if that's what you mean by "good."
Owning physical games is always the best choice. These gaming subscription services are mediocre when all they do is keep on taking away the games.
Untrue. They keep on adding the games as well.
I think that's a weird way to think about subscription services. I don't need a game to be forever on the service, just long enough for me to get around playing it.
I seriously don't need every single game I've ever played to be available to me all the time, everytime until the end of time. And for those games that I DO want to play more or less indefinetely -> I can still actually buy them. But the way you phrase it, you make it sound like digital is always a subscription. Like, you know that Steam, GoG etc. exist in the PC space, where nobody is having this discussion anymore? That's not a subscription.
I don't have a good reason to buy the physical version of a game, if I never intend to give it away anyway. Might as well buy the digital "license" for a game like Gran Turismo and not have to switch discs everytime I feel like having a quick race.
All that said, I have a bunch of PS5 exclusives physical (God of War, Forbidden West, Spider-Man 2, Ratached & Clank etc.) simply because physical is often cheaper and because I can just lend these games to friends. But these are single player experiences, so when I play these games, the disc is my PS5 for those couples of weeks.
And those people saying "what if sony goes under and the servers shut down?" or "what if world war 3 breaks out and there is no internet?". People have this weird expectation that in 20 years their favourite game of NOW will still be their favourite game by then. I certainly don't really care to play many games from 20 years ago again (I've been playing video games since the early 90s) and even if I wanted to, current hardware wouldn't really support it and I'd have get some modern/modded version anyway (some remaster, or just downloading them via bit torrent.). Like I haven't had a single instance of "dangit, I can't play this ancient game anymore!" because it's all available somewhere for really cheap or for free, if you know where to look.
It's the same with movies and music. Yeah, streaming is convenient. But let's say you want to watch an old Tarantino movie and... oh no, they don't have the license for it right now.
@@chicherichThe thing is, the way we access movies now is still infinitely better than it was before Netflix and friends arrived, even after the market split up and subscriptions feeling more like TV again (one seems barely enough and ads are back...).
Also you can still just do both. People tend to be a bit too absolutistic about this stuff. Like, I have a gamepass subscription, but I also buy games on Steam and I have a bunch of physically bought PS5 games.
And if you just know that you REALLY like tarantino movies... you can still buy them on blueray. Like you could in the past. You just don't have to buy every. single. movie. anymore. And you don't have to drag your ass to the local blockbuster either and pay extra for not returning on time later.
Also people act like you have to have 3+ subscriptions to be able to watch everything and I'm like "Subscribe for a month, immediately terminate the contract, enjoy the subscription for a month. then decide again for next month which service I want to use next."
And lastly, while it may not be legal... just having a living room PC and VPN for me is the way to go. I've been downloading movies and games on BitTorrent for about 20 years now and never had any legal trouble. So whenever I can't find something or they have the wrong version of the movie... I just put on my pirate hat and go get my parrot.
not only that, we arent getting exclusive titles day 1 and thats fine for me learned to deal with it but now apparently 1st party games will come out on pc before even being included in our subscriptions on PS consoles, dick move for their users if that end up being the case
The day Xbox started to claim that console sales numbers are not important to them was the day it became clear they were on their way out of this business. I mean, how can a company sell product "XY" and then say "we don't really care how product 'XY' sells".... that doesn't make any sense whatsoever from a business point of view, especially considering how expensive the hardware business is.
Yep. R.I.P. LBOX
They stopped listing console sales because at the time they saw they were selling half as many PS5s and now 1/3 the sales of PS5 so they say its not important. They say GamePass is the only thing thats important which selling a service to PC players or is more profitable to a company since they wouldn't have to make, ship, and sell a console just sell a service.
It never did make sense and I don't understand the xbox fans that bought into the "console sales don't matter" narrative when gamepass is so important to them. Every xbox series console sold is a potential new gamepass subscriber. Like if I bought a series x the first thing I'd do is subscribe to gamepass.
With console sales being so low you get less subscribers. Subscribers on pc gamepass dried up a long time ago so they need the console to carry but they've completely neglected their own hardware. You can't just keep depending on pc. Why Phil still has a job is beyond me lol
@@cookingsauce8274 he'll be out start of next gen in 2028 because of terrible Series X sales.
@@RossMalagarie However, if such a service remains stagnant while the operating costs increase is it really relevant anymore?
Xbox is not selling games because of Gamepass. Gamepass has peaked on subscriptions... there is nobody left to sell the subscription to.
Game Pass has driven them into the corner. They thought it was their greatest strength, but it turned out to be their greatest weakness.
And the market is totally saturated with cheap to free content that’s of very high quality. New games needing 6 months of patches has trained people to wait before paying money on a purchase or game rental.
It's almost like conditioning their users to not buy games and subscribe to a service instead, which in turn would mean they're getting less money per user, is a bad way to run a business which is know for being extremely expensive to operate eh?
I mean there are plenty of people still to sell Gamepass too. It's more those people don't want to buy it because it's overrated. 🤣
Plus, you can literally get Game Pass for free forever with MS Rewards. I haven't paid for an Xbox game in years, lol. It's great for me, but it can't be good for MS.
Imagine Sony having a game pass like putting God of war Ragnarok as a day one release and the next year closing Santa Mónica studios...
That’s exactly what I would expect to happen
PlayStation are the reigning champs for a reason.
@princegroove literally bro 🙌 playstation owns xbox any day.. the brand sells hense within the name and the console and don't forget the games
@@MrFruitBazook PlayStation is everywhere in Europe; Xbox is just a naughty word. 😆
They would have to... just financially it doesn't work
A game released 10 years ago vs a game that just released will have the same value on gamepass. Forget about initial release sales spike most games get when they're new. It doesn't exist if all games are together in a subscription
The closure of Tango Gameworks is such a huge slap to the face of the entire gaming industry, devs and players alike. If only we could just reach in and completely flush out the executive leadership of Xbox and replace it with competent people that aren't driven by greed.
Replace them with Capcom Execs
Evil within 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I am not an Xbox person, but HI FI Rush looked like a great game too
@@ContrastCopy Capcom has some comically greedy execs too. one of them publicly stated he wanted game prices to be even higher. and don't forget the company peddles heavily in microtransactions too.
Huge loss I was hoping for evil within 3 and now tango is shut down
I only just discovered the "Last chance to play" section a few weeks ago. They really should make it more visible.
It wouldn't be as climactic if they made it easy to find. A last chance should be something worth digging for.
It's not hard to find lol. You all need your hand held for everything 😅
Where is it?
the amount of greed from sony is incredible.
@@romanski5811 it's in the PS plus section under collections or catalogues all the way down the bottom.
As far as I can tell the PS5 version of Hi Fi Rush was developed in house by Tango themselves. They just completed the work on the port of the award winning game and got a swift kick in the ass from the other side of the planet. F*** both MS and xbox.
Hi-Fi had better ahadows on PS5. That's probably what did it.
Whole bunch of damage control, Xbox is literally a joke of a gaming company 😭😭
Phil Spencer shouldn't be cut any slack for these studio closures. Acquiring Activision was entirely his own idea.
I really want to see design of PS5 PRO 😁
I supposed that its going to be similar to PS5 cause if it is too different, some people can called PS6, so like already happened with PS4 and PS4 pro.
Hopefully the PS5-pro comes out officially this year. 🎮🕹️ 👀
I Will Buy PS5 pro DAY ONE 😂
With all the drama in Gaming news I forget about PS5 Pro.
Kendrick and Drake made me forget gaming
I like Xbox too
Didn’t phase me at all.

It’s crazy to think how as good as some of their games were, Tango wouldn’t even be a top 5 studio for Sony… probably not even top 10, and they were probably the best Microsoft has had in 10 years…. Makes it all make sense why the Xbox business is failing
Bethesda was a MASSIVE, unheard of acquisition at the time. Then Xbox showed zero interest in cultivating all those new Bethesda studios, by Spencer's own admission giving them very little oversight. Instead of actually managing their teams and positioning them for "success" by MS's vague metrics, Xbox chose to do only thing they're really good at - spend even more obscene amounts of money yet again on acquisitions. This leadership team has absolutely no skill in cultivating talent and creating art, and no interest in learning how to, so don't be surprised in the coming months when they close more talented studios because they don't feel like managing them.
You want an actually effective cost-cutting measure? Fire Phil Spencer and Matt Booty. All this "leadership" team ever does is spend money and spin news stories.
But Phil Spencer is so great as playing the victim, pretending to be the nice guy who cares about everyone and building a toxic parasocial relationship with the fanboys. Dude missed his calling as a cult leader.
The problem arose when Phil made all future Zenimax games Xbox exclusives. You can't spend $7 billion on a publisher and then eliminate a large portion of their market. Phil's miscalculation was that people like me still didn't buy an Xbox. We simply played the many games coming to PlayStation.
@toastyburger Then you have the person like me who actually DID buy an Xbox, but it wasn't because of that. It was just to play the Xbox games I missed out on as a kid.
Come to find out the OG selection is incredibly limited (I can't play Jet Set Radio), as is the 360 selection, and there's certain games I still can't get because they are delisted (50 Cent's Blood on the Sand), and on top of that, any game that comes out on Series X, I'd rather play it on PS5. The games I WOULD get have some stupid online crap. Forza is online only, and Halo Infinite's campaign can't be played without a download.
Sony locking down Little Big Planet was huge, it was one of the successful games that started the PS3 resurgence, which in hindsight that success, that climb, hasnt stopped since then for playstation.
Dreams should have been given the resources to be multiplayer, launch on PC within a year of PS4 launch, then receive a PS5 update
Sackboy should have been the mascot of it
And creators should have been allowed to sell their creations
This could have been a Roblox or Steam Workshop style rival
This is a massive missed opportunity for Sony at a time that would have mattered
And it will sadly die an abandoned product and no one will re-create it again. We do have Core, Roblox and such on PC but it just isn't as good as Dreams.
Can't agree more. Couldve been a huge money maker from them.
WOW... 36 TFLOPS (presumably full precision) put this ahead of an RTX 4070 and right around the RX 7800. For a console, this is WILDLY powerful and surprisingly close to the retail cutting edge. Assuming other specs are fitting, this should easily be capable of 4K60Hz with upscaling/generation and 4K120Hz rasterized...
If only PS5 supported keyboard and mouse (since fps games suck with a controller) I would probably consider upgrading to this rather than building a new PC.
@@fattiger6957some games do support MNK
@@RAHULRRJ Yeah, I know. I should have worded my comment better. PS5 does support M&KB, but not enough developers include it in the PS5 version of their games. You'd think it would be easy since all those games also release on PC with M&KB.
@@fattiger6957 yeah i also wish all fps games got mnk support and all online games too
36 tflops is for dual issue.
I really do miss the og and early 360 Era of xbox
Wow, I remember unlocking the yellow headed character in one of the LBPs as a kid and not really knowing its relevance. Seeing that it was from the inception of the game really brings me back
Microsoft is killing Xbox piece by piece. Why not shut them down, and let them become a third party publisher. More money, and they don't have to deal with Xbox anymore.
Killing? It’s been dead, in fact. 😂
Cuz that's what makes it good.
How is eliminating competition for Playstation a "good thing"? Wouldn't we want Xbox to do better to keep Playstation on their toes?
Cuz then it’d invalidate all the money they put into gamepass. Or at least most of it since Xbox is the majority of members. If anything, they’d want to kill it slowly, so that they can keep people on gamepass as long as possible, while slowly killing the service.
@@MatthewMoreau Xbox good? Lol
Imagine spending 69 BILLION DOLLARS on a game company only to shut down one of their studios because of wanting to 'scale back'. This combined with the fact that Microsoft's revenue has increased to 3 TRILLION DOLLARS, yet they cannot afford to maintain the studios (SPECIFICALLY Tango Gameworks), and be comfortable with these studios making the games they want? Miss me with the BS!!
Always enjoy your vids that help me keep updated as I platinum hunt painful games :')
I'm worried for Ninja Theory. Even if Microsoft released Hellblade 2 on PS5 as well, is no guarantee Ninja Theory is safe considered what happen to Tango. Gosh man they should just stay independant. The first Hellblade give them a good reputation, especially after dealing with negative reaction on DmC game. If they still independant, Hellblade 2 is guarantee success and they might as well can grow more as a studio. But now, their fate is in the hand of Microsoft...
Ninja theory sucks, though.
I don't care about that game (hated the first one) but based on what I've heard, Xbox is giving it pretty much zero marketing.
Compare that to Stellar Blade, a game from a studio not even owned by Sony. They got one hell of a marketing push by Sony and now it is selling like crazy.
No mention of Big Mode’s first release and instant critical darling, Animal Well hitting ps plus day one? I played a bit this morning and the hype on this game is real. This along with Dave the Diver hitting plus has me feeling pretty high on life at the moment.

Fascinating story
Dreams was dope! Microsoft to Media Molecule: “Anybody out there a superstar. Wanna stay a superstar. Don’t wanna have to worry about your executive producer… all in the video. All on the record. Dancin…”
🤣🤣🤣🤣 thats a wild reference
I dont see how people are surprised by the xbox situation. 🤔. Orienting the xbox brand towards game rentals slowly diluted the brand.
Bringing it day 1 to pc made xbox essentially irrelevant.
People largely don't buy games they get on a rental service, so the typical initial launch spike in game sales that most games typically get as a new release doesn't happen.
Brining it day 1 to pc damages it in 2 ways. First, people no longer feel a need to buy an xbox. Rather most people who used to have now ditched it. Second, less overall console sales means less first party and more importantly, less third-party sales. Third, launching on pc stores subjects game sales to the 30% steam platform tax that Microsoft loses out on.
Buying Activision was sealing the deal on something like this to happen. A purchase like that REQUIRES a return which wouldn't be possible with the current gamepass strategy.
I dont know why so many people seem confused.
Sony are going in that direction which won't work out well
Some basic math of selling exclusives on pc.
Let's take helldivers for an example to demonstrate the losses.
$70 pc vs console for 8 million sales on each platform
Pc
- $392 million (30% platform tax)
Total $392 million
Ps5
- $560 million
- Plus Ps+ revenue $640 million (even more profitable if you count extra or premium)
Total $1.2 billion
If it was a true rental service, they would be doing fine. If you rent something, it is for a specific price for a specific time, like Blockbuster or some Amazon movies.
For example, every player who was interested in Hi-Fi Rush had to pay $3.99 and they could play it for a week. Hi-Fi Rush might have made some money in that case.
Instead, you pay what $15/month and get to play as many games as you want for any amount of time within the month, with the understanding that the subscriber will probably keep paying for months on end.
I don’t disagree with your overall thought, but calling Game Pass a rental service isn’t really accurate. A rental model might actually be better for Day 1 games in a revenue/profit sense.
@dradis1 i don't think consumers would react well to partial charges for new releases and still monthly subscription.
It'll be either one or the other. People have gotten used to the catalogue and day 1 releases.
If they tried to charge extra for new releases as a per title. Most people won't because they don't even own them so it'll be bad pr and won't help at all with financing it
Yea i was on the side of gamepass hurting game sales since ur playing it on the service than buying the game. Theyre also considering raising the price for game pass if call of duty comes to the service.
Just a small correction on the PS5 Pro GPU, it has to be 60 active CUs based on the frequency not 56, 2350x60x2x128=36.09Tflops

Looking at the list of additional games leaving PS+ Extra, I could be wrong, but I wonder if it's related to the recent changes that Embracer is going through (splitting into 3 entities)? I think all those titles that were recently added are Embracer titles, and maybe some part of the Embracer changes is abruptly ending the license of those titles for PS+ Extra?

What we all have to understand is that most, 99%, of the games that come out today are all gpu bound not cpu bound.
CPU is mostly for ai and physics right? Take a look at breath of the wild, that game has the craziest most amazing physics and that was done on the switch, a 7 yo weak CPU. Cerny knows what he’s doing let’s not worry about no “CPU heavy games”.
Wrong, it's the other way around. Generally, CPUs are the bottleneck as GPU power has advanced far ahead nowadays.

@@gerboog so how are breath of the wild physics so advanced? lol. The switch is actually a complete bottleneck if we take that the gpu AND cpu are not advanced at all at this point..
@@juniorcorporan3399 its all up to developers and their optimization. half life 2 launched in 2004 and it still has some of the best physics of all time
@@juniorcorporan3399 The games physics are advanced (though not really as they aren't doing anything that hasn't been around since like 2008 - 2012) because they allowed the game and it's sequel to drop to the teens in FPS, not because the system can handle it because it very clearly can't.
Also any game on Unreal Engine 5 is going to be CPU bound to some degree, if not entirely in some cases as that engine is massively CPU heavy, a lot of games are using that engine now and all of them have FPS issues on consoles and even PC to a certain extent.
Anyone who says games aren't CPU bound nowadays have no idea what they're talking about.

I would like to see a new Tearaway game and maybe after that seeing they want to do live service games maybe bring out a new Modnation racers.
Well consider yourself lucky in the US. I’m in sweden and we don’t even get that ‘last chance’-collection - so we have to find out by accindent!
Housmarque, Bluepoint and Team Asobi should be ready to go. Show me two games from these studios along with Wolverine, Concord, and Silent Hill 2. This is what I am expecting to a degree.
As I play on PC and PlayStation I tend to double dip on most PlayStation titles.
However, I won’t be going forward, what a bloody mess
PlayStation is a joke right now
Never knew Final Fantasy XIX-2 existed. Must have missed a few.
I don't give a crap if it's the PS6. If they don't release games and stop forcing censorship i'm happily skipping the next console. I might aswell could have skipped the PS5 so far to be honest, everything I play is also on PS4 or is only on PS4, or have issues on PS5.
I still think they should bring back DREAMS with multiplayer, PC and VR support.
I think while PS5 Pro isn’t a big surprise, as mid life refreshes happen for a ton of electronics. The issue for me is how will developers use this? While yeah games are surely to look better and run better but for a vast majority. The games already look fabulous so visually it’s not really a giant leap. Frame rates is where likely this will be boosted to locked 60 at 4K or 120. Though once again this speaks to a smaller audience who need to have the best on console. Vast majority won’t see the need to upgrade unless of course there are exclusives to the PS5 Pro. This would definitely boost sales but idk Sony never did PS4 Pro exclusives, so we will see what this PS5 Pro brings to the table once its revealed.
Little Devil Inside in the PS Showcase? Please
Ryan, thank you for being one of the few TH-camrs who does not simply slide into overly simplistic narrative "capitalism bad" or "CEOs bad". Having worked in several big corporations I can say that things are never black or white and usually there are multiple reasons for everything. I personally believe it is like the veteran Xbox employee said, but of course it is much easier to just get emotional and blame Phil...
Capitalism is great, but big business capitalism (which is very much anti-free market) is definitely not great.
@@fattiger6957 They are one and the same . There is no difference
22:25 What's the name of this game?
If Hellblade 2 is coming to PS5, then I no longer have a reason to buy a Series X. And honestly, that's pretty disappointing.
All these PS5 Pro specs look crazy on paper but the end product will not live up to the hype. Im a huge PS fan but if i was to see 8K before the PS5 came out i would go crazy too but let's be realistic they under deliver everytime compare to specs.
I just bought stupid ass EAFC 24 two months ago for like 20 bucks really wish I would have waited to get it free. .
never buy sports games. They are constatly used as ammo for ps plus. Both fc24 and nba2k24 were free within 8 months of release.
Given the recent news with Gamepass, I hope this doesn't affect PS Plus in a bad way.
I don't think Sony will ever do day 1 releases for PS Plus. That's the main issue with gamepass.
Game sales makes more money vs a subscription.
Microsoft is basically running Xbox with a loss. But since they have deep pockets, they can afford to do so.
So its kinda strange when they closed 4 studios.
@@DeadPhoenix86DP Yeah Imagine they put COD on gamepass day 1 lol they're gonna lose like a LOT of money doing that. I highly doubt they'll do it though.
@@DeadPhoenix86DPyeah you have a good point. I believe even with small games like Stray, they did lose a significan amount of money.
The problem Microsoft has now is that with how big they are in value now, shareholders are expecting a LOT in revenues, reason why they are cutting edges everywhere now
Sony itself is a bad affect to ps plus. Pay more for less.
Valid concern, but PlayStation know how to make it sustainable.
The CU count not being double isn't an issue, they can disable exactly the number they need to get to the 36 CU count of the PS5 for backwards compatibility.
Regarding Hellblade II, I sort of feel like it's similar to the Matrix trilogy, we've had the first Hellblade, it was completely unique and interesting, but now we know what the deal with Hellblade is and why Senua went through that journey. So everything that made it unique and mysterious is already explained, I think they should have just left the franchise alone and done something else entirely. Like where do they go from here other than doing more of the same? It was the same problem with the Matrix. Once you know what's going on with the first movie, and it's clear that Neo is 'the one', do you really need the other films?
I am so ready for RE9!
Where are the exclusive games though?
If Media Molecule was part of the Xbox family, that "family" would have killed them like a decade ago
Happy friday everyone😊
Regarding Stellar Blade, we need a Tachy prequel or something like that. Most underutilized character in that entire game, plus the next character design in my opinion
Happy friday to you too 👍
@@unicorntomboy9736 we need love not prequels
It's not because of COVID. Because we're going through inflation.
Ori series and Cuphead on the Switch years ago
I wouldn't be surprised if they show final fantasy
I don't think anyone likes losing games to exclusivity, but it's honestly what brought me over to PlayStation (also I was just not a fan of the XboxOne UI and we already had Xbox systems prior but I digress). As much as I didn't want to lose some of my favorite games on PlayStation, I was excited to see the potential rebound from Xbox. I'm sad to see it's not panning out, but hopefully they can get into a healthier state and pivot from there.
We need a proper showcase and not another state of play
The i wonder if the games are gonna see an increase or even a stable 120fps imagine getting 144fps
Even if they were equal in console sales and market share the situation with Xbox would still be much worse than that of Playstation simply for the fact that Xbox is not the largest revenue generator for Microsoft the way that Playstation is for Sony and so they don't have the same leverage over the corporate overlords. Add in to that the fact that they are actually in fact trailing behind in console sales and market share drastically without the infrastructure in place to make the kind of blockbuster games that Playstation makes and have cut off the potential for game sales that they did have at the knees with Gamepass and it is looking very dire over there indeed.
