One of the reasons is that the 3 big College Football teams in Florida had Florida pretty much all to themselves for recruiting, but now many schools outside the state are heavily recruiting in FL.. The Louisville Cardinals is a great example, and now they have a winning program.. The talent level isn't anywhere near what it used to be for the 3 big Florida College Football teams, but the great talent coming out of Florida high schools hasn't changed at all.
As an FSU fan, thank you. You explained everything better than anyone could. Jimbo left this team a complete mess and I believe if Taggart can hold players accountable on and off the field, FSU could be back. Maybe not necessarily this year, but in the near future.

As someone who grew up in Tallahassee in the 80s and remembers all, and I mean all the 80s teams at FSU, the downfall of the football program actually starts in the mid 90s when Bobby started filling his roster with nothing but 4 and 5 star players. The program under Bobby was built on walk on's with a chip on your shoulder mentality that gave the team an edge and hunger. When the team was filled with superstar players that mentality went away and over the next ten years as Bobby and his staff got older. The team became more and more entitled to the point that in Bobby's last two seasons it was common for some starters to refuse to even practice. When Jimbo became the head coach the culture really didn't change much with the exception the players practiced because Jimbo let them get away with far more away from the team than Bobby ever would. When Jimbo's wife cheated on him with former Florida Gator and Tallahassee resident Taylor Jacobs who was her personal trainer in 2013 -14 and another 20 something young man it was reported around town that Jimbo was already looking for a new school to coach once the divorce was finalized. And that's basically what happened. Jimbo didn't care what was going on behind the scenes of a program that he had already mentally checked out of the year prior. As far Taggert goes, good luck.
I have two graduate degrees from FSU. FSU is not the team I pull for most -- that would be the school I got my bachelor's from -- but I still would like to see FSU do well, and more importantly, do it the right way. So if the current struggles come from "when he let Jameis Winston do whatever he wanted", that is fitting. Winning a Heisman Trophy and a national championship does not make up for what Winston did, to say nothing of what he was plausibly accused of having done. Florida State should not want him to represent them, yet that is exactly what FSU chose. If the consequence of this is that the football program is in the toilet for a decade, it is a consequence well earned.
That said, nothing in Taggart's record before coming to Tallahassee made me think he was a sure thing. He had a so-so record at smaller schools, then coached one year at Oregon; but if a coach is a good fit for Oregon, he simply cannot be a good fit for a team that plays Clemson, Florida, and Miami every year -- the competition, the culture, and the expectations are just too different. On top of that, if Taggart has not already lost the confidence of his team, and made them lose confidence in himself, he is on the verge of it, and the expectation of losing can quickly become a self-fulfilling prophecy. That's a shame, too, since he seems to be making an attempt to demand character. We'll see soon how Texas A&M's expensive gamble on Jimbo works out.
Thank you so much for the candor with this. It was so clear that Jimbo just stopped coaching and recruiting his last 2 seasons. Taggart has his work cut out for him but they’ll be back.
I'm a life long Gator fan. I have a hard time saying good things about the Noles. But after the blow out last year, I realized that I would rather have FSU be good so the annual game against them will be good. Last year was boring. Also, when it comes to National Championship games, if the Gators aren't in it, I want to root for either an SEC team or a Florida team. I want FSU to get back to their glory. The Bowden v Spurrier days will never come back but I think it will be good again. Great video.
I knew Taggart was an awful coach very early on. Honestly after the Virginia Tech game, I knew we had Fd up on a major scale. It's so obvious. And then you got guys like this making excuses for Taggart. It was nothing but excuses the whole time he was here! Man I'm so glad it's over now. Now Taggart can go ruin FAU. I despise Willie Taggart for what he did to our program.
I grew up in Tallahassee, my father was the Principal at Leon High School there in Tally.I remember coach Pete and got to meet Bobby. I was there at the game the first time Chief Osceola planted the spear at midfield, Wally Woodham, Jimmy Jordan , from Leon HS, lot of history there, WE WILL BE BACK !
Joyce Epps do a lot of people even know about that or was it mostly a Tallahassee known thing? Because literally everyone here knew about it. My friends dad worked out with the guy who she cheated (who was telling everyone) so it spread like wildfire
This was really well done! Thanks for creating it. When FSU played Bama in 2017, everyone wanted a slugfest but they were already struggling with the aftermath of Jimbo's lax ways in his last few moments with the program. I've kept a closer eye on them since then and it's been a rough road. I always appreciate a good history so once again I commend you on taking the time on this.
Not a bad video but a little incomplete if you wanna factor in personal issues which should be brought up. The root of the downfall started with Jimbo's wife sleeping around with an ex-gator player almost half her age around between the 2013-2014 season which devastated and embarrassed the hell out of him which not to mention losing Jeremy Pruitt because he couldn't keep his dick in his pants and his wife demanded they leave Fsu along with some BS saying he felt he didn't get enough credit for the 2013 season but whatever. I've been living in tally for 30 years and know people who've been around the coaches and players and everything i'm saying is valid wether you want to believe me or not. His sons illness along with his wife's infidelity was too much for Jimbo and he needed a change of venue because those things caused him to take his hands off the wheel and not give a shit anymore. Truth.
Truth. And I heard that while his wife was having affairs with her tennis instructor/ex gator player, etc. there was a long time that Jimbo didn't know what was going on but EVERYONE else in Tallahassee knew what was going on and no one told him.
I love watching these videos about how teams fell apart because I see now in 2023 how the game has changed so much. From teams like FSU who seemingly fell off, have now risen up, or are in the process of rising back up.

Trevor Kinney If you're referring to the 1996 Fiesta Bowl, the actual score was 62-24, which, if you do the math, is a 38 point defeat. 59-20 is a 39 point defeat to a team that didn't even win the national title that year, unlike Nebraska with Florida. Secondly, I don't really care about FSU or UF considering I'm a Kansas Jayhawks fan, so not only is your point wrong and irrelevant, but also misplaced. God, you're pathetic.
@@treymagathan847 it's hilarious how you try to be snarky and call me pathetic there, but I wasn't talking about any of those games. I was completely correct with what I was talking about. And a Kansas football fan has not room to call anyone pathetic btw lmao
Trevor Kinney Ah, I see you're referring to FSU's 63-20 defeat at the hands of Louisville. Like I said, I don't care about the ACC, being a Jayhawks fan. Too many times, I see pathetic people who take my casual shitpost to heart and try to act like I'm a fan of their rival using a false equivalence to somehow justify their bad doing. I apologize for the mistake. As for KU, they did win the Orange Bowl, a BCS bid, in 2008 over Virginia Tech, ironically enough, an ACC team. Unlike our perceived superior neighbors, Kansas State, who may have gone to several BCS Bowl Bids this century, but have never won one. In fact, they've gotten their asses blown out of their cavity every single time. It's perspective that a lot of people don't know or undervalue about the program. I personally believe that if the Jayhawks moved out of the Big 12 and played in a less prestigious conference, say the MAC, they'd be annual bowl bids. It's just that the Big 12 is too strong of a conference to healthily compete in, especially when the conference got relegated to 10 teams.
Hornibrook’s 26-6 record is mostly due to a stout defense and amazing run game. He is not that great of a quarterback. W/L record does not define a quarterback. This is coming from a Wisconsin fan.

@@jimike7297 If you're talking about the 2019 game, you're probably right. However, it's not like Dabo to purposely humiliate another team even if he could. The Tigers played mostly 2nd and 3rd string players in the second half, and FSU scored 14 points on back ups. Some other coaches would have piled up the points in a classless effort to impress the writers and talking heads. We've been on the receiving end of games like that, and it ALWAYS comes back to haunt the teams that do it, sooner or later. It's tempting to run up the score, but it's not the gentlemanly thing to do. GO TIGERS! (CU, '67)

Alex Horny Brock will lead them to the national championship this year. The dude is so horny in name and on the field that winning will come easy for him. I dare say he will have such a stellar season that he will position himself to potentially win the Heisman trophy edging out Rodrigo Blakenship (Sorry UGA fans). However if for some reason he does not beat out James Black for the QB job I can see him converting to CB. He has blazing speed, good tackling instincts, along with good ball hawking skills i would imagine. He would follow a good lineage of DBs to come through FSU such as Deion Sanders, Jalen Ramsey, and Derwin James. His ability as a shut down corner for the team will translate well for him at the next level. If he is asked to play DB I can see him potentially being a first round draft pick either in football but not soccer. The future is bright for Florida State but I starts and ends with Alex Horny
Are we done blaming Jimbo for Florida State and Taggarts ineptitude. Enough with the fabricated bs about Jimbo causing any of this. He provided FSU a national championship and top 5 recruiting classes that Taggart inherited and failed to develop.
lol. Do you really think his 5-6 record last year was FSU's fault? Jimbo Fisher gave up and stopped caring. Taggart hasn't righted the ship, sure, but Jimbo is 100% to blame for FSU's fall. If not for Dalvin Cook, we'd have gone 7-6 or worse before 2017.

I'm an AU grad but as a woman, I remember all the Jameis Winston issues in 2013. He was out of control and Fisher did little to reign him in. I'm all for any team going for all they can achieve since few teams stay on top every year (look at Auburn). The Fisher/Winston issues really turned me against FSU football; even though that may not be fair. Every story seemed more arrogant than the earlier one. I'm now 62 and worked for the same company for 41 yrs before retirement and I'm not a woman who sees conspiracy at every corner but Winston was loved just due to his football achievements and not the way he conducted his life. I hope FSU turns everything around and becomes successful again, I really do. Just don't do it on one flawed player.
I appreciate your opinions and you might be right on some things but Taggart is equally to blame as is FSU's alumni and back office. The program lacked discipline for years. The program made mistakes the Alabama program, alumni, and fans would have NEVER accepted. But it all festered too long at FSU. This along with them hiring Taggart who left prematurely with a lackluster record at Oregon. He did a poor job prepping this team after big promises. Plenty of blame to go around everywhere. I honestly and sadly don't see them coming back for a long time. Clemson will eat their lunch for years. I am ashamed to say but it's the way I see it. Their recruiting program is not up to par to compete now. If I'm wrong you can come back here to scold me.
It seemed from the start that coach taggart was a players coach, but he also stuck by his rules. Jimbo may have had some issues, but he stunk at discipline and was a hypocrite. That's why he lost the team. If he could not handle his personal problems then he should've stepped down. Coach taggart inherited a fucking mess.

A year and a half later and still...pain.

The Bowden v Spurrier days will never come back but I think it will be good again. Great video.

Thank you for not blaming Taggart, the jury is out on if he's the savior, but he's certainly not the one to blame!
Ah, I see you're referring to FSU's 63-20 defeat at the hands of Louisville.

Some other coaches would have piled up the points in a classless effort to impress the writers and talking heads.

You better believe they will be on there way back. Why? Florida prospects.
@@thepryor8061 I'm an alumni. In the long run I hope you're right but I'm not seeing it yet. Florida teams compete for all prospects just like all the rest and right now the Lion Share seems to be going to teams like Clemson and Alabama. And their records prove it. Right?
@@thepryor8061 I'm not sure who you're telling to f off. I would love for Florida State to be a winning team all the time but I really would like them just to be competitive if anything else. Right now they're not competitive they're terrible.
Not you
As a Nebraska fan as much as I distained FSU in the 90’s I really miss those games now
When nick Saban leaves Alabama they can hire jimbo Fisher he looks just like saban
But Saban wins
FSU was fun to watch back in the day. Tamarick Vanover. Always remember him for some reason.
Bowden was letting players do whatever they want.that's why deion sanders was never going to class

As a diehard Gator fan since the age of 4 in 1992, I kinda almost feel bad for Fswho. I honestly liked when they were good it made the rivalry better. Jimblo really screwed them legit, left them high and dry I was shocked they hired Taggert. Now it's not looking like Mike is the HC they needed either. I'm sure eventually they will be back but it's not looking good right now.
Insightful video. Good job @Cole Adams. I don't think Taggart is the guy for FSU, but that's not my problem. #canesfan
No one person is ever responsible for a program's decline. My problem with Taggart is he just isn't the right fit for this program.
Now 3 chokes in a row. Sure it's Jimbo's fault to a large extent. But the defensive coordinator has to go - Barnett won't last the season and he shouldn't.
ucf fan, former fs fan, i remember their years in the early 2010's, i started routing for ucf in 2017 (btw what were we doing vs pitt) anyways i still route for florida state even if they are really bad, i would like to see them be better, its sad to see teams you like go down an seemingly inescapable rabbit hole.
You should do a video on Dan Mullen and how he came back to Florida and fixed them.
One good year don't mean he fixed us yet💯 he's gonna get us to the promise land
Lifelong Nole fan here, excellent synopsis of the greatness, reasons for downfall and future outlook. Fairly accurate assessment!
Poor willie got left with a dumpster fire 😭
We’re both gonna get back to the top Go Canes
Oh dam a cans fan who's not a Dick? Lmao 🤣but nah hopefully we both do. college football's better when we're both on top
Jimbo should've got raked over the coals for what he did. He should've had to pay back his and his staffs entire 2017 salary for dereliction of duty. They flat out quit recruiting
itstray yy plus we both gotta be beating Florida again
@@adamnir6791 if u got a good run D you'll beat Florida they're not that complicated but it's a lot easier said than done obviously 🤣😔
Podcast i heard with a prominent GA highschool coach that had 5 commits to FSU including his own son sId that Jimbo and staff never contacted them after September of that season.... we lost all but 1 of those! Jimbo should have to pay back half or that years salary along with assistant coaches as well
Florida State is experiencing karma for the way they treated Bobby Bowden in the end with that whole head coach in waiting fiasco with, of all coaches, Jimbo Fisher. Don't worry this too shall pass. I just don't think Taggert can take them to the level that they are accustomed to. Florida State is a premier program and they will be back, just like many other schools have gone through in the past.
Why can't WT do it.......jimbo did it!!!!! (Without being 100% in love)WT, knew his hands was shit once he sat down at the poker table........ but how many of us will keep playing poker knowing our hand F up!!!! 75% of us would've started singing,"YOU GOT TO KNOW WHEN TO Fold'em ..... 10-2 2019
They played Bama game 1 in 2017. That is what ended them.
Cameron C no FSU went 10-3 that season, the season after that ended them
@@thakhidd_dee7068 they didnt go 10-3 that season. The season after their 10-3 win is when they played Alabama
As a FSU fan I completely 100% agree with everything you said in your video. Crazy that a Florida fan can be more clear viewed than other FSU fans lol.
Florida State lost to Virginia tonight
You're spitting truth and as a true Noles fan it really stings me that this is the reality of Florida State football. I find it interesting that you made no mention of the Jameis Winston's rape allegation,. I heard a theory that Jimbo "salted the soil" intentionally because of that incident being that the school covered everything up and it absolutely rocked Jimbo to his core, which, I don't believe myself but it's definitely something to ponder.
2013 FSU was NOT a great team. They played no one during the regular season, and then a lousy Auburn team gave them everything they could handle.
They played in Death Valley and put 51 on Clemson which had a very good team that year. Who was better than Auburn in 2013? A lousy team? STFU
@@GentlemanJack295 Big deal, fruitcake. That Clemson team was nothing like the current Clemson teams. What ranking did they finish with? 8? Didn't they also lose to South Carolina? LOL. As for that Auburn team, they sucked too. Their defense gave up about 25 points per game that year. One of the worst defenses an SEC champion has ever had. The only reason they beat Alabama is because they played that game at home and the refs gave them quite a bit of "help". That was the worst, most laughable BCS pairing since Tennessee-FSU in '98.
@@neonnaughtsie4726 Big deal dickhead. Clemson was a very good team that year and got stomped by us. They beat Bama because Bama was not that good that year and then Bama got boned by OK in their bowl game. As I said before, who was better? STFU
Neon Naughtsie Numbnuts, who was better? ROFL, not Bama! There was no team in the USA in 2013 that could beat FSU. Not only that year either. STFU
