  • On September 5, 2005, Miami and Florida State played a football game so bad that it killed the golden era of the best rivalry in college football, and helped send the Miami program into a tailspin that it still hasn't fully recovered from. Welcome to Worst Game Ever, Episode Four.

    The infamous 40-3 Peach Bowl loss to LSU is what kicked Miami out of the college football elite permanently - while for Florida State it was the next season's infamous 30-0 home loss to Wake Forest that effectively ended the Bowden era.

    Miami fan here.. just want to point something out: in the beginning of the video, when explaining why this rivalry was so great, you discuss all the talent that played in it…..
    You should’ve mentioned Bobby Bowden. How people viewed these two teams was largely driven by coach Bowden.
    Coach Bowden will always have a special place in the hearts of any UM fan who was there during those days.

    As an FSU fan those Jeff Bowden 2000 teams on offense were brutal. I remember this game and how horrible it was but we were so desperate for a win I took it. And there was a lot of laughs Miami lost on a failed FG. Also I remember that Miami LSU game and agree it was the end. Not only did they lose the fight on the field but lost the fight in the tunnel after the game. One suggestion if you want a truly brutally bad rivaly game. The 2011 FSU\UF game. The offenses in this FSU\Miami game look like amazing to what happened that night in an FSU win.

    This game was not so much a defensive battle, but one where the offenses and special teams were so inept that they made the defenses look good. You didn't mention that they were ranked *in the Top 10.* You said the series died out because they weren't competing for national championships with the win when that was just wasn't the case in 2013. You could make the same argument that the "golden era" of the series died in any of the games 2001-2004, too. Both FSU and Miami(FL) fell off before 2005.

    • @ColtonDenning
      @ColtonDenning  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Didn't say the series died out. I said the golden era of it did, and it took 8 years between this game and 2013 for another Miami-FSU game to matter nationally, and they haven't played in another one since, so yeah - I'm comfortable with the argument I made. Great video. I'm actually a fan of both teams and I forgot how bad that game was. Both teams had some talent but not experience and went on to play much better the rest of the season.
    As for Miami, not only did they lose to LSU in the Peach Bowl, but they started a fight in the tunnel (some genius had both teams sharing the same tunnel to get to their lockerrooms) and also lost the fight!
    As for Mussberger's perviness, the girl he ogled is Jenn Sterger who went on to become semi famous as well as infamous for an incident involving Brett Favre when she was the Jets sideline reporter.
    As far as this game being the impetus for the demise of both programs, well it depends what you mean. This game didn't cause that. But it probably coincided with it. Miami has not gotten back to the same level since, for a variety of reasons, including the rising of UF and then the resurgence of FSU. FSU did win a Natty in 2013, and played for one in 2014. FSU won 10 games last year and is the favorite to win the ACC. FSU has a legit Heisman candidate and is a darkhorse for the natty. FSU still has the most ACC championships, and Miami has none.
    One criticism - Gary Danielson didn't just have a random shout out. He was alluding to Michigan's Chris Webber who famously called a timeout that didn't exist to lose the 1993 basketball national championship to Duke. I'll give you a pass because you were so young.

    After listening for 5 minutes it’s painfully obvious that you want FSU and Miami to never be good again because, and you’ll deny this but you know it’s true, the only way Ohio State can beat the SEC or a stacked Florida school with any kind of consistency, is to swipe tons of players from the Gulf Coast states especially Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. If you don’t carpet gat WR’s, DB’s, and elite edge rushers you can’t win.
    With NIL up and running Texas is closing its doors to you. Georgia and LSU lock down the Gulf Coasts top talent. If Miami gets good again, financial backing appears to finally be in place or at least close to it, you won’t be able to swipe half a 4-6 players a year from South Florida and their goes any chance of anything more than a Big Ten title.
