      They are beautifully scary and the average around our area is around 4ft long with adults getting as large as 14-15 ft. Hard to catch though, they have long narrow mouths. And. By narrow I mean only an inch and a half for a 7 ft one I saw not too long back, and maybe 3/4 of an inch wide for smaller ones. But the teeth, weight, and muscle behind them make them able to rip chunks of flesh off anything they want. And with armor like scales, not too many aquatic animals can fight them aside from the bowfin and alligators that live in the area.

    • @mr_d3adw873
      @mr_d3adw873 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@jaelyyymar8071 also, they might be dinosaurs technically, but they are considered a nuisance fish around here and many people encourage killing them. I dont, I think they're beautiful and the ecosystem around the area is in balance enough to keep them from being the dominant predator of their waters. They might be tough, but they aren't invincible and the first gator that wants some gar for dinner has more than his fair share. So it balances out pretty well. And they are magnificent to see, scary, and eye opening as to how life in other places works. :)

      @Wiinter Plays Beowulf is the historical account of a nobleman who could afford good food and was therefore jacked, who hired out his superior physique and armor as a large pest exterminator. Beowulf kills grendel, which is described as a biped who could swallow men whole, and matches the description of a 10' tall juvenile t-rex, by ripping its weak arm out of socket (or off, entirely), by closing underneath his jaws so he couldn't reach him. People did not write fiction about real people and places. Bards/scalds played a role in recording historical events at that time in europe. Reading it as a myth is anachronistic. It's a documentation of real people doing real things. Characters in beowulf match individuals in the royal genealogy of the Heimskringla.

    One correction, though. Tyrannosaurus rex didn't have a septic bite that people tend to compare to komodo dragons when its teeth were too broad. Any animal that bites you can cause infection if not treated, but they're not going to straight cause you to keel over. The most you have to worry about in a rex encounter is hope you make it out alive without injury or hope for a quick death.

    Ok prehistoric junkie here so a couple of things that i noticed that i feel to point out that are either inaccurate or i hust thought would help.
    1. Eurypterus is actually very small about 4 inches long, i think the genus my boi casual was trying to refere to is the Pterygotus which the largest speciemens wore about 7 ft long,
    2. another nitpick is californosaurus which is actually a 9 ft long ichthyosaurus which is only considered a medium sized species, while the ichthyosaurid on display in the backround is Shonisaurus a 40 ft long species which lived in Nevada which hey he mentions later in the video but refers to it's size at 50 ft which might be an overstimate but not fully sure
    3. Dire wolf's are more like dire coyotes since their closer to coyotes on the family tree
    4. While true that Allosaurus lived in colorado the most speciemens were actually found in utah with a quarry producing at least 40 Indivudals which is why the animal is the state fossil of Utah
    5. Techinacly Gastornis is a vegetarian due to his beak being built for veggies but don't think that makes him docile
    6. the hadrosaurid in the background is Magnapaulia which some sceintist debate weter or not it was lambeosaurus, but regardless the only fossils found of Magnapalia were found in Mexico
    7. On the picture for stegomosuchus their is desmatosuchus in the bottom left corner who while in the archosaur family was actually herbivorous, in the bottom right that's protosuchus & the top scaly wonder up there is a phytosaur belodon reconstructed with the skull of Nicrosaurus
    8. Machairodontinae refers to the family of cats with saber like teeth, but casual did actually get this right with 2 memebrs of the family, Homotherium also known as scimitar toothed cat & his more popular cousin the Smilodon or sabertoothed cat did in fact live in Oklahoma
    9. while true that entelodntids or hell pigs as they were commonly refered to but are actually closer to whales then pigs on the family tree did in fact live in the good ol US of A with 2 species Daeodon & Archaeotherium livng across the states neither species actuallylived in missouri
    10. Oh boy the animal i probibly know most about the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex, which yes it's range included both north & south dakota, but it also included Montana, wyoming, & Utah, unfortunatley the septic bite theory was proven false but it still possed the most powerful bite of any land animal at 35,000 newtons btw the animal got a whole lot scarier because we now know that T.rex was the brainiest dinosaur with the similar level of intellegence to that of a baboon
    11. The giant ground sloth or megatherium was a south american species, however the their was a ground sloth in kentucky known as megalonyx or Jefferson's ground sloth, who was discovered by yes our 3rd president Thomas jefferson
    12. technically while they look like rhinoceros Uintatherium is actually not in the same family as rhinos but hey they both share common ancesstary from the horse
    13. Kansas was home to the most popular species of Pterosaur the Pteranodon which actually could have dived into water to grab at fish so if u made the scaly bird mad it would have been pretty bad
    14. Yes in iowa their were plesiosaurs in the state specifficaly you would have had to deal, however my boi forgot to mention that it would have been the genus Elasmosaurus which could have grown to be about 45 ft long
    15. While Ankylorhiza wasn't found in maine they most likely would have migrated like modern whales do today so not innacurate just a fun piece of trivia
    16. & last but not least technicaly titanoboa did not live in Peurta rico they lived in Columbia
    Now i want to make this clear if i got anything wrong plz let me know, also our understanding of prehistoric creatures is ever changing what might be yesterdays facts might be tommorows old beliefs proven wrong, & last but certintly not least i do not hate u casual geographic these are just mistakes i picked up on & felt like commenting on becuase i am very passionate about animals both past & present & causal has done very good job at educating people of the animals of present day keep up the good work.

    Allosaurus was incredibly successful (re: dangerous). They did not have a large bite force but had ridiculously sharp teeth, large mouth gape, and strong skull, leading some paleontologists to believe this thing may used it's head like a machete or killed large prey items (large as in long necked sauropods) by taking chunks repeatedly. It also had fairly strong arms, unlike most other theropods, which could have been used to give you a death hug. It went up against STEGOSAURUS in combat according to the fossil record. If that thing felt comfortable disrespecting a tank with what was more or less a midievil flail for a tail, it would have wiped out everything and everyone around it.

      Allosaurus was the most common predator in the morrison formation which stretches 1.5 million sq miles so a male could likely control most if not all of it

    Indiana chiming in! My college mascot was a mastodon because they dug up some fossils of them when building the school 😃
    All those critters work for me because I love megafauna 😁

    As someone who lives in Illinois, I found out recently that it actually would be dangerous and not boring like you said. I would have Ornithomimus regularly running in my yard, which would be bad because they potentially would have been running from a hungry Tyrannosaurus.

    • @StanFalade
      @StanFalade 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Tyrannosaurus would rarely go for ornithomimus due to their high speed, that would be mainly Dakotaraptor or juvenile rexes

      Or the ornithomimus' would just kick the shit out of you

      “Wyoming, the troublesome bulls at your grandpa’s ranch will prepare thy anus for the tri attack known as Triceratops horridus.
      10 tons, 30 feet long and known for their street beefs with the T. Rex, they don’t throw hands but they will throw you with horns the size of hockey sticks and the BBC of terrestrial animal skulls.”
