It kinda sucks we waited a year for Insomniac to tell us we aren’t getting a DLC for the game. I understand the hacking situation and leaking Wolverine content might have had something to do with that but still.
I don’t think it was messy. It was pretty straightforward. it was just too short. That’s all really. They cut out some rescue missions for the daily bugle and other locations. Which was a mistake. Along with that toothpaste suit for miles
This game, despite its flaws, was still my personal game of the year. I’m really excited to play it again on PC with unlocked frame rates and max settings.
Last act might be messy but I will never stretch that to the entire game being bad . Hate that it’s Arkham Knight all over again and will take another few years for people to appreciate it . Still a 9/10 game
Hella based. I found out about the Arkham series much later on so I wasn’t apart of the initial hate for AK. Coming from a less biased perspective that game got way too much hate for what it was. Just like with sm2 people conveniently ignore the great things so they can pick on all the mistakes it made.

7 out of 10, the Gameplay is Great, Each Spider-Men brings something Unique, the Villains look Good, and the Graphics look Amazing, I just think that if they delay the Game for Another Year and Fix the Story and the 3rd Half, it could have been Better but if Feels Underrated because something felt missing and now a Year Later and no DLC Expansion, I guess we’ll never Know.
The swinging, combat, abilities, suits, gadgets, and voice acting are all top notch and honestly better in this game but the story felt rushed and short. Don’t get me wrong there were some awesome moments in the story but most of it felt like it was trying to get to the next thing and rush that moment until the story is finally finished. It’s not the worst game in the world but it’s definitely a step down from the last two in terms of the story mostly.
This is what I'm saying Spider-Man 2 did not do for Spider-Man.What arkham city did for batman....arkham city was such an improvement that it completely eclipses its predecessor spiderman.... Kind of feels like the first one would just some quality of life changes.
While I don’t agree with some of the things in the story, the game is overall fantastic and there are AMAZING things in the game that I won’t ever forget like being able to play as Venom
I don’t think I’ve had this much fun playing a game before in my life. Insomniac really delivered when it came to the gameplay and set pieces which make this game feel like an event and we the fans can’t not appreciate and respect that. The story really tries to level the first game and majority of the time I think it does but it does fall short in some areas but in the end this game is nothing short of amazing
Thank you so much for calling out how people ignore the good gameplay aspects and only yap at the story. The story was definitely messy, but is that the whole game? The gameplay and traversal is an objective improvement, same with the bosses. Many things were made better compared to the first game. You can argue that the story was mid, but you can’t truthfully call the whole game mid just because of one aspect not being up to par.
It’s not just the story it’s a lot of little things that ruin the game So many fun aspects were cut out of the game like character bios, podcasts, suit powers, suit mods & social media. Gameplay is good abit a little braindead, stealth still sucks and has lots of awful propaganda
@difference3maker36 Not saying there weren’t any areas of downgrade, but there’s a lot of upgrades as well even with little things. E.g. Numerous accessibility & customizable features, improved graphics, a 60 fps option, more random crime variety with npcs being able to show up and assist you, etc. These are the little things, that don’t even go into the big improvements like in combat and traversal. I agree some of those things would be really nice to have, but it’d be unfair of me to look only at what we missed and not what we also gained. Also kinda hard disagree about gameplay being brain dead, at least with combat. Stealth I agree still sucks in both ganes though. As for the politics even though I don’t agree with them and wish they weren’t there, they were mostly in side content and completely skippable. I could easily ignore it for the majority of my play through so I didn’t stress about it too much.
I don't get why people are getting mad at the third act of the game. Yeah it was rushed but that's not too bad either but calling the whole game mid because of that ? Except that one thing this game was a step up from last two games in everything.
Step up in what? A story or a combat? Spiderman Remastered and Miles Morales both have better story also replay value... Im talking about Suits abilitys and Suits Abilitys in Spider-man 2 are only cosmetics...

the problem is when venom was talked about before the game came out was absolutely false advertisement. they literally said when they revealed the console “ he doesnt wanna take over the world, he doesnt wanna do this and that, he just wants to be a menace to spider-man” and guess what he literally only wanted to take over the world
One year already is insane to me. I haven't been playing video games as much as before for the past year, so it's completely surreal to me how fast time flies. I still took time to finish the story, and despite it flaws, I still enjoyed every minute I spent on Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
It’s really not. Every Sony cinematic movie game that comes out is a 10/10 it’s not even a 8/10 some this game. Yes the gameplay is better but the awful story and propaganda makes it worse
It's not an objectively perfect game, but to me, it's as close to a perfect Spider-Man game as I can get until Marvel's Spider-Man 3 comes along and hopefully raises the bar set by 2. If they can bring back certain features that worked well in the 3 games that came before SM3, as well as allowing more freedom and speed with the web swinging and the web wings, and breathe some more life into the open world, I's consider that a success
If we can get a story on the level of sm1, with the combat and traversal of sm2, with some improvements in the weak areas like stealth? Then damn we’ll practically have a perfect spiderman game.
Literally the whole point if Venom having that motive for taking over the world, is because of Harry holding SO CLOSE TO HIS HEART to HEAL THE WORLD… for this version of Harry, and him having Venom, it makes perfect sense.

Dude I couldn't stop playing it. I usually quit around 50% with a game. My seal of approval are games I actually beat. Bioshock 1 and infinite, both ff7 remakes, persona 5, the last of us 1, and spider man one and two join that for me. Just good old fashioned entertainment. And I loved the ending. It was wild. But I liked that this was not the Eddy Brock story.
Now I played all 3 Insomniac Spider-Man games for the first time, last December, for context. The 1st game is my personal favorite, because the gameplay is still very good, smooth and it has the best story in the series by far, 10/10. First off for Spider-Man 2, I think we all know by now that it was rushed out. And I feel very bad abt the whole hacking situation, but New Game + show have been in the game from the start. I didn’t play the 1st 2 games when they came out, but I’m guessing on release they had it? Correct me if I’m wrong. Along with several other features. I don’t really care abt the whole suit thing, yes I’d be cool to have more comic suits but I just use the default suit most of the time for the story. While the gameplay itself is amazing, literal perfection, the story takes such a drastic decline after Kraven. It just felt like it was over in a hour. I cried at the end of the 1st game, but 2 just didn’t hit as hard as it did. And I’d be lying if I said I was disappointed that we aren’t getting DLC. I mean it was literally already planned after the release, for the 1st one. And while I didn’t want to see the leaks, there was things that hinted at some for the 2nd game. I still love the game, and it’s my Arkham Knight. I love to just go and swing around and fight. But if I want to experience a better overall story, it’s the 1st game. 8/10.
I still believe in my whole heart, that this game is one of my favorite games I have ever played in my life. That’s why I don’t believe everyone on Twitter are saying because I do think social media have bipolar disorder. And people need to understand that this leak was so severe and drastic, that it harmed the company.
I had a lot of fun originally with the game. Even the NG+ was fun. Sandman opening it up was just cool. Lizard chase was very memorable. In the middle of the night on my first play, I got to THE Venom mission….I felt like a kid again. The story is not 100% perfect and DLC would definitely help tie up some loose ends, but looks like we’ll be waiting for the next game. Overall, it cured that nostalgic itch in a way the first one didn’t quite make me feel. I’ll definitely pick it back up just to swing around and probably run through the story again at some point. It’s by far the best full Spiderman experience in a game we’ve ever gotten. Best fidelity. Best gameplay. Biggest map. I loved the first game, I bought the limited edition PS4 just for it. I like 2’s story better. They fulfilled their promise to do it big in my eyes. Bummed about DLC but PUMPED for Wolverine. Insomniac are probably living up to their names rn with all the work being put into these games. They deserve their flowers and I think we’re just seeing the beginning of their growth if they can keep the momentum going.
Here's the issue. Insomniac are not some people making just a silly little Spider-Man game. They are a big company taking OUR money. We are buying THEIR products. So they deserve 100% of any criticism they receive. I didn't pay 70 bucks for a half-baked Spider-Man game with an MJ Wick simulator. Oh, and I definitely didn't pay 70 bucks to be forced to help some dork ask his insignificant other to prom.
What makes the game disappointing is that it's so good that it's flaws make us fans so mad because it's so close to being the best Spider-Man game ever
I don't think it's a bad game by any stretch of the imagination but Insomniac set a high bar with the first game so the fact that there was a less well written story, no DLC, and cut content from this huge sequel was definitely disappointing. I hope Insomniac listens to the feedback on this game to inform their decisions for the sequel so it can be the best Spider-Man game ever.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is still a masterpiece to me and I don’t give a shit about what the haters said- Is it rushed? Yes sadly it is Is it a bad game? Hell no I still have fond memories of when I first booted the game hyped up like a little kid at a candy store, how crazy the reveal of venom still roams free in my head.
I absolutely loved the game and finished the story twice on 100%. I got the Spider-Man PS5 with the matching controller too. What I love about the game is the story, swing mechanics, and the character development. People need to remember that this Venom isn’t Eddie Brock. Therefore, it’s gonna be a different version of Venom because it’s Harry Osborn. I’m looking forward to the final act in Spider-Man 3.
They still have suits that don't have matching web wing colors. For axample the Miles Brooklyn 2099 suit in blue variant has red wings like the original red varianwouother blue suits have blue wings, so why does this one and many others have this issue. They also don't have the ability to start street crimes in the open world from the Spidey App like they did in Miles Morales and to me that's just WHY???
What I like about Spider man 2 3rd act 1. Anti-Venom in general 2. The boss fights 3. How Venom looks 4. The symbiyotes 5. Ending of the symbiyotes What I hated about the 3rd act: 1. Some of the ending 2. The modivations for Venom ( acceptable ) 3. Peter not being the last part of the Venom fight 4. Riot not being the big symbiyotes ( acceptable ) 5. Venom being a pawn for Knull. ( kinda acceptable) That’s my good and bad things for spider man
I personally loved this new take on a villain venom made it more believable for him to be bad and you kind of feel bad for him so for me it is a masterpiece right under spidetman ps4
I still love the game today as much as I did when it released, were there some things here & there they could’ve improved on… yes but they were little minor things to me that it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the game. To me it’s a top 3 comic game of all time.
The thing with the suits is that they insists on Miles and Peter having the same amount of suits. But Peter has been around in media and comics for so much longer. So of course, there'll be way more suits people want for Peter that won't make it into the game unless Miles can get one as well to even it out.
Truth be told I do not have a problem with this version of venom. Actually, I’m glad that he’s a mix of the ultimate version and web of shadows. I’m tired of the immature comedy with venom recently(the movies). Plus I do like that he is a bit of a consequence of the flaws of 4 characters: Peter, Harry, Kraven & Norman. The suit was evil to begin with, but it was weak. These four characters gave it more strength throughout the story, which created a beast. It’s a bit similar to the fib alien from Veggie Tales(that’s the best example I can think of right now lol 😂). I still give the overall game a 9/10. I give the same rating to the first game.
6:18 completely agree people were really upset that we had to wait so long for those features but the hack really slowed everything down I’m only upset in hindsight because insomniac has treated the game like they wanted to just drop it and be done with it and if that’s the case they should have had these features from the start. they have known that they weren’t gonna do dlc and acted as if they didn’t really want to do post release support or content like just the energy in some of their responses towards the community regarding any post release content always felt so standoffish as if they were tired of being bothered with those questions like you can’t drop an incomplete game and then want to go mia when people are only asking for content that you already had in your previous games.
I preordered the deluxe edition and still haven't started it. I'll get to it at some point. I no longer want to play a game day one as I'm usually trying to complete something my backlog. And these games take 6 months to be "finished" anyway.
Spiderman 2 hyped me up a lot when I got the game in my hands. I hope that Spiderman 3 hypes me up even more and that we will hopefully have a third character. And I'm very excited to see what the last part will look like in 2028.

If they do end up making a Venom game, I could see Eddie Brock doing research on the Symbiotes after the event of Spider-man 2. Probably following up on The Flame and Cletus Cassidy, and I think during that investigation is how he will get the Symbiote. I would love to see J. Jonah Jameson get a symbiote as well, and he be one of the boss battles.
I totally agree. I thought I was the only one. One of the biggest things that got to me was tue little things like being stuck with the white tendrils even with black suit, some suits to this day don't have web wings that match. Some suits are like yellow or blue but have red web wings and the colors don't work together at all. So many little things like that really just kept hammering and made it hard to really really love this game. Another of my biggest complaints is that they didn't bring back the ability to activate street crime on command from Miles Morales' game. They just left it iut and now the open world feels slower than Miles' game
It was still a solid game. People just wanted it to blow the first game out of the water but that’s incredibly difficult to do when the first game is so damn good. They still made a lot of improvements, and even though the story needed work they still did a lot of things very well, and better than in the prequel.

I really hate how the variety in the crime system was nerfed compared to the previous two. Of course the story is one thing, but if you're gonna double the size of the map for the sequel only for them to make the objective of every crime to just beat up certain enemies, it becomes repetitive reeaally quickly. good vid caboose
Really good video mate. When spiderman 2 first released I was right up there with a 9/10. After my new game plus playthrough earlier in the year, I did have some small issues so changed my rating to an 8/10. Looking forward to their future games but hope they take that extra time next time and I really think we could get a 10/10 masterpiece Spiderman 3. Let them cook and lets enjoy gaming
I absolutely love this game but I will say if the third act wasn’t as messy, and venom had time to be fleshed out more. I think the game could’ve been a whole lot better but as it is I still love it and enjoy it a lot
I love Marvel Spider-Man 2! Just the two things I wanted to come back from the first game were the gadget wheel Spider-Man had and the costumes he had from the movies and comics. Other than that, it's an awesome game!!!💯💯💯
Insomniac didn’t “try something different” as you said earlier in the video with Venom, the problem is that their take on Venom literally boils him down to the most generic evil Villian with the facade of depth
I thought SM2 did a lot of things right, and I thought the game was fantastic. I get some gripes about it, completely, but overall imo it was an upgrade from SM1. Several features I'd like to see in SM3 that would make the game one of the best ever, and in no particular order: 1. Suit creation: They got close to this in SM2 with color variations for suits, but having a suit creation feature would be epic. Not just color creation, but choosing suit designs and choosing different gadgets to equip for different suits, maybe adding new tech gadgets, as well. 2. Playing as the villains: We got a small dose of this in SM2 with Venom, but playing as Doc Oc, Green Goblin, or any other villains in SM3 for short pieces of the story would be EPIC! Flying the Goblin glider, or using Doc Oc's tentacles to scale around buildings would be so freaking cool. Would also add length to the story, and give fans a cool perspective + new characters to play with. This would be cool to replace the more pedestrian missions of MJ if that's what ppl want. I don't mind the MJ missions, but playing as villains would be damn cool. 3. 3rd playable character: Again, got close to this with 2 playable characters in SM2. My wish would be having Gwen in the game, as I think there's plenty of room in the story to introduce here, but just my opinion. This is a toss-up for me, but would take really any third playable character at this point. If a Venom game comes, then Venom as a potential playable character in SM3 could be sick, although that might derail Peter and Miles' story a bit. 4. Longer story/More side missions: I think we all want a very long 3rd chapter. I think adding another playable character could help here, but overall, just a lengthy main story, and plenty of side missions. I thought there was a lack of side quests in SM2, or they just felt a little too much of the same, which is a given. But for SM3, I think a ton of side stuff would be great, and a very lengthy main story would be really good for the fans. 5. Bring back benchmarks: This was one thing I absolutely loved in SM1 and Miles, that was not in SM2. It made the replay ability of the first two games much greater, even when the main story and side quests were completed. Getting 100% completion for all benchmarks felt like a massive accomplishment, and I'd love if they brought that back to some capacity in SM3. 6. Update the swinging mechanics: I think updating the swinging could lend to a more rewarding feel. I can't tell if what the currently have is too perfect, or if it could use revamping. It's smooth, somewhat fast, and with the web wing traversal they added in SM2, there's a bit more variety traversal. I'd like to see something new, not sure what, but something added. Maybe a zoomed in closer camera when you're swinging fast through the city at a low level by the cars. I'd like to continue getting more variety in the traversal (web wings was AWESOME) so bring on something fresh and new. 7. Across The Spider-Verse / Spider-Man 2099 filter: Imagine changing the entire landscape to a SM 2099 landscape, futuristic Nueva York, flying cars, etc. Or changing it to a Spider-Verse landscape with bright animations. I wonder if this is doable, but could be such a cool feature. There's obviously currently a way to play with Spider-Verse animation, but what if the entire game looked like that, like the movie. Think it would be a big ask, but so cool nonetheless, and would be a big change from the same (although beautiful) NYC cityscape.
If it was Eddie as venom. It would be just a pure fight with venom cuz Eddie would just want peter dead, for harry as venom he has an objective cuz harry does have goals he wants to fulfill
There were so many more features that could have been added. The black suit felt like just a skin for the most part. The running animations, fighting style and web swinging should have been way more enhanced, especially to distinguish the black suit mechanics from normal Peter.
The game is good, I don’t mind the whole harry-venom thing, kraven was great, my biggest issue is not having a DLC. That’s my BIGGEST issue. Spider-man 3 better win game of the year and IT BETTER BE THE GAME OF THE CENTURY.
This is my opinion. They're using the "hack" as an excuse not to do anything. You said it yourself. A completely different team is working on Wolverine. So, why did the Spider-Man team stop working on Spider-Man 2? Because they got "hacked"? Just because something was leaked doesn't mean you have to stop everything and not release what you intended. They can still do their jobs and complete the game and make the game actually worth the amount charged for the darn thing for in the first place. We already needed to get a brand new console for the thing,pay an additional what, $70 on the game itself or something like that and they give us an underwhelming story, suits we don't want, no suits that we do want, an incomplete story with side story and main story. "Fixing" features in the game only to make undo what they did and make it very annoying. I liked what they did when you used the rage mode, and it stayed whatever suit you were wearing. Then they bring it back to switching to the main symbiote suit that I think looks not that great to begin with when they should have made it any symbiote you chose from the game to change into when you activate the rage mode. Sure, graphics are amazing and gameplay is so much better than I anticipated, especially transversal around the city. But that's not enough to keep me wanting to play the game. It's simply not. These games and consoles are getting way too expensive to be given a lack of content. They dropped the ball on this game and then used this stupid "hack" as an excuse to do nothing. I think the hack happened because of the unreal lack of communication between Insomniac and all of us. Telling us nothing about anything so my theory is a fan did this to release information so we as fans could finally get excited for the projects they were working on. They could have easily and cans still easily talk about the projects and not spoil anything for us, but they choose not to. At this rate, if they don't want to release any DLC story for the game, then can they at least update the game with more suits or more quality of life features that we've been asking for since launch. Like, throw us a bone instead of making a majority of fans upset at the lack of.. honestly, anything in this game. Don't get me wrong, for the most part, the game is fine. Bit evert time I get on the game, I can't help but get bored quickly now because I've already done everything more than once and I can't shake the feeling that I'm simply playing a game that is like 80% completed. If they "were not" planning to add DLC story to the game, then they shouldn't have teased Spider-Verse, Chamillion,and Carnage.
The game was rushed it could’ve been better especially in the end. Could’ve had more cameos. Like how did the Avengers or Strange not pull up when the entire city was covered with symbiotes. Could’ve expanded the insomniac universe way more
i think the venom crumble started since the beggining. Peter personality drastically changes in like 3-4 days. Venom took 2 years to bond and heal harry then decided peter was better. Then miles saves peter and ruins his realization moment and the whole reason why venom hates peter, and then harry also gets mad at peter for no logical reason and after that is just downhill
but yeah i dont argue for a sec that the gameplay is duzens of times better than any other previous spider-man game, its just the story that is underwhelming compared to the first game and even miles game
There's alot of things I liked about Marvel's Spider-man 2 and there are some things that I didn't like as well but I'm not upset there's no dlc because I feel bad at what happened to Insomniac studios at the end of the day they are still people so what's done is done can't be mad at that I give the game honestly a 8.5 out of 10 in my eyes there's alot of fun things in the game so bad as well too
Its a good game and they did a good job of raising the swing ceiling level and polishing other things but this game felt lack luster with utilizing those mechanics making the experiencd too easy. Simplyfing the web gadets, there being web slinging challenges, the super abilties just being too OP for a character who already felt well equipped in the first game. Spiderman MM handled it much better by having the Underground being weak to his powers and weakening them while Roxxon developed counter measures. The suit powers barely did a difference against the symbiotes to justify this and the moves just wipe through everyone. Then there is the feeling of lack of content, this is the third game and it felt a bit repetitive doing the same base over and over, plus they still felt smaller and less packed than the other two games. As for story, Miles takes a huge back seat for Peter who the story wants to focus on, I am not saying I do not understand why we needed to play as Miles or too get rid of him but the story felt too spread thin trying to balance Peter, Miles, ans MJ in the span of less than 30 hour campaign. If they maybe focused solely on Peter and maybe stilk kept it being 30 hours I see it utilizing the time better.
And yeah I know what happened the day when insomniac company got warned about paying the hacker money for not leaking all their content of DLC of marvel Spider-Man 2 and wolverine
I don't mind the story that much but the thing they really fumbled is the post game open world, side missions, world building which SM1 did really really well even with small things like backpacks and newspapers
My biggest issue with the game is the lack of content after you beat the story. SM1 you had at least 3 different activitiesand side missions to do while free roaming
The real crux of this entire fiasco is Insomniac's refusal to be even somewhat transparent with the fan base about just how much of an effect whatever went on behind the scenes following the hack had on their development team as it relates to Spider-Man 2. That's what has made for a lot of the frustration and backlash. I've seen people say that the fans "aren't owed anything from the studio" but I wholeheartedly disagree. The record-breaking pre-orders and sales for the game that the studio brags about are BECAUSE of the fans, and that alone is why we deserve some sort of explanation for what really happened here. Until we get that, I won't support their future titles including Wolverine and SM3.

Now if this game had a 2024 release date and the leak didn’t happen. We would probably have gotten more playtime as Venom and a different story and probably some DLC.
What I don’t get is how do they have 3x the budget as the first game and not be able to finish the main plot without rushing it. I think Insomniac needs to cut down some bloat.
I'm actually glad I didn't see anything that came from the hack, hell I didn't even know that it happened since march or something. I believe wolverine will take games to a whole new level in the hero's and single player industry, at least I hope so. playing it either way
My review of the game- Story:6/10(had great potential and needed more time to be polished), Gameplay and other stuff: 10/10(everything perfect). Overall, it was a 7.5-8/10 for me. Would love a directors cut down the line for the cut out story content, the game actually deserves it imo.
For company being hacked last year probably set back a month or 2, but they have to put out something for the fans and waiting patiently we want to give you our money, its like they dont want money. They dont want they goin announce cuz they cancelled bunch of stuff

I admit the story isn't as good as the first one - with a few areas being rushed and the Symbiote not being fully explored, then with the power struggle between Peter and Miles throughout the game, you'd often find the game favouring Miles more in cutscenes and it also gave the impression that Peter was only strong with the Symbiote, then him 'dying to Kraven' in the way that he did just to get the Symbiote to attach to him felt very cheap. The gadgets didn't feel as useful as the ones in the first game either and that in turn deeply impacted the stealth aspect of the game in a negative way. Having the web line just made things feel too easy and lazy. Though gameplay wise in terms of combat and traversal, it's a step up from the 1st game and even Miles Morales as well. The Symbiote moves are cool to execute, the special abilities of both Miles and Peter look great in combat and the visuals and boss fights are notable improvements too. If anything I'm more disappointed about there not being any DLC as that was such a missed opportunity, I never hated the game I just saw it as a game with wasted potential and something that could have been a lot greater had it not been rushed so much. I'd argue that if Spider-Man 2 came out this year we wouldn't have been as critical on the game.

Hella based. I found out about the Arkham series much later on so I wasn’t apart of the initial hate for AK. Coming from a less biased perspective that game got way too much hate for what it was. Just like with sm2 people conveniently ignore the great things so they can pick on all the mistakes it made.

7 out of 10, the Gameplay is Great, Each Spider-Men brings something Unique, the Villains look Good, and the Graphics look Amazing, I just think that if they delay the Game for Another Year and Fix the Story and the 3rd Half, it could have been Better but if Feels Underrated because something felt missing and now a Year Later and no DLC Expansion, I guess we’ll never Know.

The swinging, combat, abilities, suits, gadgets, and voice acting are all top notch and honestly better in this game but the story felt rushed and short. Don’t get me wrong there were some awesome moments in the story but most of it felt like it was trying to get to the next thing and rush that moment until the story is finally finished. It’s not the worst game in the world but it’s definitely a step down from the last two in terms of the story mostly.

Insomniac really delivered when it came to the gameplay and set pieces which make this game feel like an event and we the fans can’t not appreciate and respect that. The story really tries to level the first game and majority of the time I think it does but it does fall short in some areas but in the end this game is nothing short of amazing

Thank you so much for calling out how people ignore the good gameplay aspects and only yap at the story. The story was definitely messy, but is that the whole game? The gameplay and traversal is an objective improvement, same with the bosses. Many things were made better compared to the first game. You can argue that the story was mid, but you can’t truthfully call the whole game mid just because of one aspect not being up to par.

E.g. Numerous accessibility & customizable features, improved graphics, a 60 fps option, more random crime variety with npcs being able to show up and assist you, etc. These are the little things, that don’t even go into the big improvements like in combat and traversal. I agree some of those things would be really nice to have, but it’d be unfair of me to look only at what we missed and not what we also gained.
Also kinda hard disagree about gameplay being brain dead, at least with combat. Stealth I agree still sucks in both ganes though. As for the politics even though I don’t agree with them and wish they weren’t there, they were mostly in side content and completely skippable. I could easily ignore it for the majority of my play through so I didn’t stress about it too much.

One year already is insane to me. I haven't been playing video games as much as before for the past year, so it's completely surreal to me how fast time flies. I still took time to finish the story, and despite it flaws, I still enjoyed every minute I spent on Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

It's not an objectively perfect game, but to me, it's as close to a perfect Spider-Man game as I can get until Marvel's Spider-Man 3 comes along and hopefully raises the bar set by 2. If they can bring back certain features that worked well in the 3 games that came before SM3, as well as allowing more freedom and speed with the web swinging and the web wings, and breathe some more life into the open world, I's consider that a success
If we can get a story on the level of sm1, with the combat and traversal of sm2, with some improvements in the weak areas like stealth? Then damn we’ll practically have a perfect spiderman game.

Dude I couldn't stop playing it. I usually quit around 50% with a game. My seal of approval are games I actually beat. Bioshock 1 and infinite, both ff7 remakes, persona 5, the last of us 1, and spider man one and two join that for me. Just good old fashioned entertainment. And I loved the ending. It was wild. But I liked that this was not the Eddy Brock story.
There's more games on that list but those are the standouts.... Prey by arkane.... But a lot of people complain about that too... Idk why. But they do

Now I played all 3 Insomniac Spider-Man games for the first time, last December, for context. The 1st game is my personal favorite, because the gameplay is still very good, smooth and it has the best story in the series by far, 10/10. First off for Spider-Man 2, I think we all know by now that it was rushed out. And I feel very bad abt the whole hacking situation, but New Game + show have been in the game from the start. I didn’t play the 1st 2 games when they came out, but I’m guessing on release they had it? Correct me if I’m wrong. Along with several other features. I don’t really care abt the whole suit thing, yes I’d be cool to have more comic suits but I just use the default suit most of the time for the story. While the gameplay itself is amazing, literal perfection, the story takes such a drastic decline after Kraven. It just felt like it was over in a hour. I cried at the end of the 1st game, but 2 just didn’t hit as hard as it did. And I’d be lying if I said I was disappointed that we aren’t getting DLC. I mean it was literally already planned after the release, for the 1st one. And while I didn’t want to see the leaks, there was things that hinted at some for the 2nd game. I still love the game, and it’s my Arkham Knight. I love to just go and swing around and fight. But if I want to experience a better overall story, it’s the 1st game. 8/10.
I still believe in my whole heart, that this game is one of my favorite games I have ever played in my life. That’s why I don’t believe everyone on Twitter are saying because I do think social media have bipolar disorder. And people need to understand that this leak was so severe and drastic, that it harmed the company.
I had a lot of fun originally with the game. Even the NG+ was fun. Sandman opening it up was just cool. Lizard chase was very memorable. In the middle of the night on my first play, I got to THE Venom mission….I felt like a kid again. The story is not 100% perfect and DLC would definitely help tie up some loose ends, but looks like we’ll be waiting for the next game. Overall, it cured that nostalgic itch in a way the first one didn’t quite make me feel. I’ll definitely pick it back up just to swing around and probably run through the story again at some point. It’s by far the best full Spiderman experience in a game we’ve ever gotten. Best fidelity. Best gameplay. Biggest map. I loved the first game, I bought the limited edition PS4 just for it. I like 2’s story better. They fulfilled their promise to do it big in my eyes. Bummed about DLC but PUMPED for Wolverine. Insomniac are probably living up to their names rn with all the work being put into these games. They deserve their flowers and I think we’re just seeing the beginning of their growth if they can keep the momentum going.

Here's the issue. Insomniac are not some people making just a silly little Spider-Man game. They are a big company taking OUR money. We are buying THEIR products. I don't think it's a bad game by any stretch of the imagination but Insomniac set a high bar with the first game so the fact that there was a less well written story, no DLC, and cut content from this huge sequel was definitely disappointing. I hope Insomniac listens to the feedback on this game to inform their decisions for the sequel so it can be the best Spider-Man game ever.

I absolutely loved the game and finished the story twice on 100%. I got the Spider-Man PS5 with the matching controller too. What I love about the game is the story, swing mechanics, and the character development. People need to remember that this Venom isn’t Eddie Brock. Therefore, it’s gonna be a different version of Venom because it’s Harry Osborn. I’m looking forward to the final act in Spider-Man 3.
They still have suits that don't have matching web wing colors. For axample the Miles Brooklyn 2099 suit in blue variant has red wings like the original red varianwouother blue suits have blue wings, so why does this one and many others have this issue. They also don't have the ability to start street crimes in the open world from the Spidey App like they did in Miles Morales and to me that's just WHY???

I still love the game today as much as I did when it released, were there some things here & there they could’ve improved on… yes but they were little minor things to me that it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the game. To me it’s a top 3 comic game of all time.
The thing with the suits is that they insists on Miles and Peter having the same amount of suits. But Peter has been around in media and comics for so much longer. So of course, there'll be way more suits people want for Peter that won't make it into the game unless Miles can get one as well to even it out.
Truth be told I do not have a problem with this version of venom. Actually, I’m glad that he’s a mix of the ultimate version and web of shadows. I’m tired of the immature comedy with venom recently(the movies). Plus I do like that he is a bit of a consequence of the flaws of 4 characters: Peter, Harry, Kraven & Norman. The suit was evil to begin with, but it was weak. These four characters gave it more strength throughout the story, which created a beast. It’s a bit similar to the fib alien from Veggie Tales(that’s the best example I can think of right now lol 😂). I still give the overall game a 9/10. I give the same rating to the first game.
6:18 completely agree people were really upset that we had to wait so long for those features but the hack really slowed everything down I’m only upset in hindsight because insomniac has treated the game like they wanted to just drop it and be done with it and if that’s the case they should have had these features from the start. they have known that they weren’t gonna do dlc and acted as if they didn’t really want to do post release support or content like just the energy in some of their responses towards the community regarding any post release content always felt so standoffish as if they were tired of being bothered with those questions like you can’t drop an incomplete game and then want to go mia when people are only asking for content that you already had in your previous games.
I preordered the deluxe edition and still haven't started it. I'll get to it at some point. I no longer want to play a game day one as I'm usually trying to complete something my backlog. And these games take 6 months to be "finished" anyway.

Spiderman 2 hyped me up a lot when I got the game in my hands. I hope that Spiderman 3 hypes me up even more and that we will hopefully have a third character. And I'm very excited to see what the last part will look like in 2028.

If they do end up making a Venom game, I could see Eddie Brock doing research on the Symbiotes after the event of Spider-man 2. Probably following up on The Flame and Cletus Cassidy, and I think during that investigation is how he will get the Symbiote. I would love to see J. Jonah Jameson get a symbiote as well, and he be one of the boss battles.

I totally agree. I thought I was the only one. One of the biggest things that got to me was tue little things like being stuck with the white tendrils even with black suit, some suits to this day don't have web wings that match. Some suits are like yellow or blue but have red web wings and the colors don't work together at all. So many little things like that really just kept hammering and made it hard to really really love this game. Another of my biggest complaints is that they didn't bring back the ability to activate street crime on command from Miles Morales' game. They just left it iut and now the open world feels slower than Miles' game

It was still a solid game. People just wanted it to blow the first game out of the water but that’s incredibly difficult to do when the first game is so damn good. They still made a lot of improvements, and even though the story needed work they still did a lot of things very well, and better than in the prequel.

After my new game plus playthrough earlier in the year, I did have some small issues so changed my rating to an 8/10.
Looking forward to their future games but hope they take that extra time next time and I really think we could get a 10/10 masterpiece Spiderman 3.

Insomniac didn’t “try something different” as you said earlier in the video with Venom, the problem is that their take on Venom literally boils him down to the most generic evil Villian with the facade of depth
I thought SM2 did a lot of things right, and I thought the game was fantastic. I get some gripes about it, completely, but overall imo it was an upgrade from SM1.
Several features I'd like to see in SM3 that would make the game one of the best ever, and in no particular order:
1. Suit creation: They got close to this in SM2 with color variations for suits, but having a suit creation feature would be epic. Not just color creation, but choosing suit designs and choosing different gadgets to equip for different suits, maybe adding new tech gadgets, as well.
2. Playing as the villains: We got a small dose of this in SM2 with Venom, but playing as Doc Oc, Green Goblin, or any other villains in SM3 for short pieces of the story would be EPIC! Flying the Goblin glider, or using Doc Oc's tentacles to scale around buildings would be so freaking cool. Would also add length to the story, and give fans a cool perspective + new characters to play with. This would be cool to replace the more pedestrian missions of MJ if that's what ppl want. I don't mind the MJ missions, but playing as villains would be damn cool.
3. 3rd playable character: Again, got close to this with 2 playable characters in SM2. My wish would be having Gwen in the game, as I think there's plenty of room in the story to introduce here, but just my opinion. This is a toss-up for me, but would take really any third playable character at this point. If a Venom game comes, then Venom as a potential playable character in SM3 could be sick, although that might derail Peter and Miles' story a bit.
4. Longer story/More side missions: I think we all want a very long 3rd chapter. I think adding another playable character could help here, but overall, just a lengthy main story, and plenty of side missions. I thought there was a lack of side quests in SM2, or they just felt a little too much of the same, which is a given. But for SM3, I think a ton of side stuff would be great, and a very lengthy main story would be really good for the fans.
5. Bring back benchmarks: This was one thing I absolutely loved in SM1 and Miles, that was not in SM2. It made the replay ability of the first two games much greater, even when the main story and side quests were completed. Getting 100% completion for all benchmarks felt like a massive accomplishment, and I'd love if they brought that back to some capacity in SM3.
6. Update the swinging mechanics: I think updating the swinging could lend to a more rewarding feel. I can't tell if what the currently have is too perfect, or if it could use revamping. It's smooth, somewhat fast, and with the web wing traversal they added in SM2, there's a bit more variety traversal. I'd like to see something new, not sure what, but something added. Maybe a zoomed in closer camera when you're swinging fast through the city at a low level by the cars. I'd like to continue getting more variety in the traversal (web wings was AWESOME) so bring on something fresh and new.
7. Across The Spider-Verse / Spider-Man 2099 filter: Imagine changing the entire landscape to a SM 2099 landscape, futuristic Nueva York, flying cars, etc. Or changing it to a Spider-Verse landscape with bright animations. I wonder if this is doable, but could be such a cool feature. There's obviously currently a way to play with Spider-Verse animation, but what if the entire game looked like that, like the movie. Think it would be a big ask, but so cool nonetheless, and would be a big change from the same (although beautiful) NYC cityscape.
If it was Eddie as venom. It would be just a pure fight with venom cuz Eddie would just want peter dead, for harry as venom he has an objective cuz harry does have goals he wants to fulfill
There were so many more features that could have been added. The black suit felt like just a skin for the most part. The running animations, fighting style and web swinging should have been way more enhanced, especially to distinguish the black suit mechanics from normal Peter.

Because they got "hacked"? Just because something was leaked doesn't mean you have to stop everything and not release what you intended. They can still do their jobs and complete the game and make the game actually worth the amount charged for the darn thing for in the first place. We already needed to get a brand new console for the thing,pay an additional what, $70 on the game itself or something like that and they give us an underwhelming story, suits we don't want, no suits that we do want, an incomplete story with side story and main story. "Fixing" features in the game only to make undo what they did and make it very annoying. I liked what they did when you used the rage mode, and it stayed whatever suit you were wearing. Then they bring it back to switching to the main symbiote suit that I think looks not that great to begin with when they should have made it any symbiote you chose from the game to change into when you activate the rage mode. Sure, graphics are amazing and gameplay is so much better than I anticipated, especially transversal around the city. But that's not enough to keep me wanting to play the game. It's simply not. These games and consoles are getting way too expensive to be given a lack of content. They dropped the ball on this game and then used this stupid "hack" as an excuse to do nothing. I think the hack happened because of the unreal lack of communication between Insomniac and all of us. Telling us nothing about anything so my theory is a fan did this to release information so we as fans could finally get excited for the projects they were working on. They could have easily and cans still easily talk about the projects and not spoil anything for us, but they choose not to. At this rate, if they don't want to release any DLC story for the game, then can they at least update the game with more suits or more quality of life features that we've been asking for since launch. Like, throw us a bone instead of making a majority of fans upset at the lack of.. honestly, anything in this game. Don't get me wrong, for the most part, the game is fine. Bit evert time I get on the game, I can't help but get bored quickly now because I've already done everything more than once and I can't shake the feeling that I'm simply playing a game that is like 80% completed. If they "were not" planning to add DLC story to the game, then they shouldn't have teased Spider-Verse, Chamillion,and Carnage.
The game was rushed it could’ve been better especially in the end. Could’ve had more cameos. Like how did the Avengers or Strange not pull up when the entire city was covered with symbiotes. Could’ve expanded the insomniac universe way more
i think the venom crumble started since the beggining. Peter personality drastically changes in like 3-4 days. Venom took 2 years to bond and heal harry then decided peter was better. Then miles saves peter and ruins his realization moment and the whole reason why venom hates peter, and then harry also gets mad at peter for no logical reason and after that is just downhill
but yeah i dont argue for a sec that the gameplay is duzens of times better than any other previous spider-man game, its just the story that is underwhelming compared to the first game and even miles game
There's alot of things I liked about Marvel's Spider-man 2 and there are some things that I didn't like as well but I'm not upset there's no dlc because I feel bad at what happened to Insomniac studios at the end of the day they are still people so what's done is done can't be mad at that I give the game honestly a 8.5 out of 10 in my eyes there's alot of fun things in the game so bad as well too
Still this was the greatest Spiderman game i ever played
Its a good game and they did a good job of raising the swing ceiling level and polishing other things but this game felt lack luster with utilizing those mechanics making the experiencd too easy. Simplyfing the web gadets, there being web slinging challenges, the super abilties just being too OP for a character who already felt well equipped in the first game. Spiderman MM handled it much better by having the Underground being weak to his powers and weakening them while Roxxon developed counter measures. The suit powers barely did a difference against the symbiotes to justify this and the moves just wipe through everyone.
Then there is the feeling of lack of content, this is the third game and it felt a bit repetitive doing the same base over and over, plus they still felt smaller and less packed than the other two games. As for story, Miles takes a huge back seat for Peter who the story wants to focus on, I am not saying I do not understand why we needed to play as Miles or too get rid of him but the story felt too spread thin trying to balance Peter, Miles, ans MJ in the span of less than 30 hour campaign. If they maybe focused solely on Peter and maybe stilk kept it being 30 hours I see it utilizing the time better.

I don't mind the story that much but the thing they really fumbled is the post game open world, side missions, world building which SM1 did really really well even with small things like backpacks and newspapers
My biggest issue with the game is the lack of content after you beat the story. SM1 you had at least 3 different activitiesand side missions to do while free roaming
I love our friendly neighborhood Spidey, but this fandom has really devolved into chaos
The real crux of this entire fiasco is Insomniac's refusal to be even somewhat transparent with the fan base about just how much of an effect whatever went on behind the scenes following the hack had on their development team as it relates to Spider-Man 2. That's what has made for a lot of the frustration and backlash. I've seen people say that the fans "aren't owed anything from the studio" but I wholeheartedly disagree. The record-breaking pre-orders and sales for the game that the studio brags about are BECAUSE of the fans, and that alone is why we deserve some sort of explanation for what really happened here. Until we get that, I won't support their future titles including Wolverine and SM3.
I hope nothing but the best for Insomniac and will just wait for there next project and I'm sure love it, also love you Caboose

Now if this game had a 2024 release date and the leak didn’t happen. We would probably have gotten more playtime as Venom and a different story and probably some DLC.
This game needed more time and no MJ missions.

What I don’t get is how do they have 3x the budget as the first game and not be able to finish the main plot without rushing it. I think Insomniac needs to cut down some bloat.

If it’s an entirely different team thats working on Wolverine, then why haven’t we gotten DLC for Spider-Man 2? That makes literally no sense.

I'm actually glad I didn't see anything that came from the hack, hell I didn't even know that it happened since march or something. I believe wolverine will take games to a whole new level in the hero's and single player industry, at least I hope so. playing it either way
I agree that everyone focuses on the bad things about the game instead of the good things because I personally loved the game.
My review of the game- Story:6/10(had great potential and needed more time to be polished), Gameplay and other stuff: 10/10(everything perfect). Overall, it was a 7.5-8/10 for me. Would love a directors cut down the line for the cut out story content, the game actually deserves it imo.
I just think we could’ve used more missions with Peter n the black suit other than that I’m satisfied. Felt rushed. Guess that’s y I beat it 3x. IMO

For company being hacked last year probably set back a month or 2, but they have to put out something for the fans and waiting patiently we want to give you our money, its like they dont want money. They dont want they goin announce cuz they cancelled bunch of stuff

The problem with discourse of entertainment is the price of everything if I’m paying 70 dollars or more for a game it better be a 9/10 or 10/10 being good isn’t enough anymore for some people
I still see the game as an overall 8.5/10, despite everything people have said about it be it here on YT and Reddit as well. I admit the story isn't as good as the first one - with a few areas being rushed and the Symbiote not being fully explored, then with the power struggle between Peter and Miles throughout the game, you'd often find the game favouring Miles more in cutscenes and it also gave the impression that Peter was only strong with the Symbiote, then him 'dying to Kraven' in the way that he did just to get the Symbiote to attach to him felt very cheap. The gadgets didn't feel as useful as the ones in the first game either and that in turn deeply impacted the stealth aspect of the game in a negative way. Having the web line just made things feel too easy and lazy.
Though gameplay wise in terms of combat and traversal, it's a step up from the 1st game and even Miles Morales as well. The Symbiote moves are cool to execute, the special abilities of both Miles and Peter look great in combat and the visuals and boss fights are notable improvements too.
If anything I'm more disappointed about there not being any DLC as that was such a missed opportunity, I never hated the game I just saw it as a game with wasted potential and something that could have been a lot greater had it not been rushed so much. I'd argue that if Spider-Man 2 came out this year we wouldn't have been as critical on the game.
