The p switch was for the 2 blocks blocking the pipe. To let the koopas out. You broke the blocks from above with a spin jump instead. I thought he was gonna keep the wall up blocking the goal and make you do a shell jump - hence the keep the shell theme. Still ok i guess.
Seeing most of the levels today, I feel like Ryu should start a new series. Something on the lines of "Find that Cheese", where he finds Dev Exits, and skip certain parts of the level. It goes well with Ryu's playstyle and his love for cheese. Can be a great new series as we are heading towards #100 on both the Super Expert Series. :D
I found dev exit in that red coin level... left a comment for you there... it is near thwomp had to cheese it with P switch though, so you can still beat my time if you can reach it of the thwomp directly without cheesing p switch
you have to bounce off the thwomp a bit after it starts rising again (or maybe if you're a robot you can do it while he's coming down). I could get ~8s this way but the record is now 7.5
4:16 I watched this at .25x speed just to understand how he killed that third mole. The dude's hitbox ran into Ryu at the perfect height to count as jumping off his head.
Everyone’s talking about the P switch clutch, while I’m still in awe of the inhuman dodging at 4:03 - 4:30. The fact that he made it out of there alive is unreal.
11:42 My guess at the Dev Key: Go into the first door, grab the pow block, go back out the door, kill the thwomp. The thwomp has the dev key. That’s my guess.
I'm still so surprised to see people build actually good levels but putting in a dev exit. I mean... at least don't- No wait. I must not tell them how to make it less obvious. 🙄
When you clear-check a level, checkpoints don't count, you have to beat the level in one take. So the dev key was used to bypass that, because beating that entire level in one-take is way harder than having checkpoints to rely on.
I would wait near the end of my dev skip level so my clear speed isn’t 20 seconds in a level that clearly should take longer than 20 seconds, but I don’t own this game so maybe there is a way that it wouldn’t work
And after that amazing clutch we never heard from Ryu ever again. Some say hes in the bahamas with his lovely wife. Others say hes living his best life. Whatever it maybe we will all remember this day in history.
re:Where's the Dev Key - Just like you brought the P-Switch around, you could've brought the POW Block back to kill the first Thwomp which probably had a Key in it
the doors were all blocked by one ways so you couldn't go back with the pow. The key is in a hidden block just to the left of the thwomp. you have to spin jump off the thwomp to reach it.
I am just in awe of how many people make the exact same speed run again and again and again and again. OK, so you spin jump over these piranahs, but get this! The ceiling is real low, so you just brrrrrrrr right throught it! I'm a genius! So original!
Ryu, those red coin rooms had doors with spikes above them and a 1-way. It seems pretty obvious to me, the dev key is in a kaizo block directly underneath those spikes. You go in a door, get the key, and go back through.
I always assumed dev exits were used by creators who wanted to make unique or challenging stages but weren’t skilled enough to beat their own stage from start to end. I’ve now realized it’s usually just laziness…
I don't know what's more insane: The fact that none of these levels had been beaten yet, that so many of them had dev exits or that incredible P-switch clutch.
11:09 That space to the right of the spike seems suspicious to me. Did you jump in that spot? That could have a hidden block with the key and you'd be able to go right back in the pipe.
Level creator: Hides a dev key so well that Ryu can't find it. Also level creator: makes a small flaw with the placement of a P-Switch. Ryu: *skips 1/4 of the level* I'll take the consolation prize.
"Why even make the level bro? Why even make it at all?" Because people are more creative than they are skilled at playing the game themselves, and make levels outside their playing skill range.
And the point is... they shouldn't. Their levels aren't even properly tested so it's 'assumed someone might be able to complete it'. Garbage level of thinking.
@@Willowisp927 Obviously the various sections of the level are more than doable- you can see people do similar easily in many videos released since at least 2015, if not older with LPers playing SMW hacks- and they likely tested them individually as they made them, but don't have the skill to do it themselves in a single run. That doesn't mean it's not doable, not by a long shot. So, in short? Nah, you're garbage for calling it garbage level of thinking.
Honestly, I still believe after all 5is time that if, as the level creator, you need a dev exit to beat your own level, you shouldn’t upload the garbage.
You should do an episode where you go on the hunt for dev exits on uncleared levels. Check clear times, or if a level seems suspiciously difficult to see if it merits investigating for a dev exit. I've seen some very crafty exits given away by a low clear check time or WR.
Ryu did such a clutch trick, the fabled most clutch that he evaporated. He clutch dusted himself. He pogged so hard he went grayscale! I never thought I’d see the day. May his joy cons never drift in the 9th plane of Mario gods, he was the chosen one after all.
24:24 was one of the best saves I’ve ever seen
That was epic!
And at that time xD
Absolutely legen... wait for it....
This belongs in a best of Ryu comp
I agree
24:19 one of the all-time best clutch saves!!
Thought the title might be a bit clickbaity but that was legit.
"Why even make the level" indeed. What a fun episode, every stage has a dev exit. lol
That was quite the exciting turn of events at the end. What a legendary play
More exciting than Kyle's moist crevice?
Everybody would have ran but Ryu waited for the P to fall it was insane :p
24:30 That play was stupid good

Love this idea
Then hopefully he can play my levels I put on reddit and find the cheese in them
That's every episode though.
As a Kyle, I don’t appreciate my crevice being used as a form of entertainment without my knowledge.
Drink a monster you’re not you when you’re thirsty
This makes you different from every Kyle I have ever known.
Your crevice is very enjoyable, I’ve been told.
Try keeping it dry then. It's your own fault at this point.
C’mon Kyle don’t be like that. I really enjoyed your crevice and I’m sure lots of other people did too. Don’t keep it all to yourself.

I think the P-switch on the last level was to release the Koopas from the pipe, but you just used your bigness to break the blocks.
Thats what she said.
24:21 that P switch save was EPIC
@catface ePic
24:20 I must admit, hitting that P-switch by a hair to save yourself was pretty clutch !

I have to admit, I did think you weren't going to survive there in Kyle's moist crevice boss room. Was too much moist for one to handle.

No wait. I must not tell them how to make it less obvious. 🙄
I think in case of the ice level it wasnt a dev exit, but, considering the first door that let's you skip a part, more like a badly made "secret"
When you clear-check a level, checkpoints don't count, you have to beat the level in one take. So the dev key was used to bypass that, because beating that entire level in one-take is way harder than having checkpoints to rely on.

re:Where's the Dev Key - Just like you brought the P-Switch around, you could've brought the POW Block back to kill the first Thwomp which probably had a Key in it
Which pow? The POW at 11:30 was behind a one-way.
the doors were all blocked by one ways so you couldn't go back with the pow. The key is in a hidden block just to the left of the thwomp. you have to spin jump off the thwomp to reach it.
There was a one-way gate in the POW room. Couldn't go back in the door.
That moment when Ryu scrolls through the epic list of eternal glory and surpasses your level.
you mean bypasses?
4:07 I often wonder if it's superhuman skill, or if Ryu is just the luckiest guy ever... or perhaps a bit of both.
This title should just be titled "I expose Dev exits" - should make a series destroying dev exit levels lol.
24:24 is the timestamp to remember for any future "ultimate plays" compliation video
I think the video has the perfect duration. :)
I like the 45 min vids
24:25 is the most iconic moment!!!!!!!! Ryu the best!!!!!

What makes the save so epic is this editing 🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️ GG my man 🔥🔥

The Grover noise was amazing.
