Chris why do you return and stay back so often?
Because thats how you don’t get passed. Singles is way different than doubles it’s not entirely about kitchen control. If you always charge the kitchen against a good player they will just rocket passing shots by you all day.

@@dikeajiri-top10rankedsenio30 always when they hit a poor return obviously if you are the best player in the world and you pepper the back line on your return then crowding the kitchen is the right strategy but when you hit soft floating returns that land mid court playing back a little is a must. Also you see pros like Christian alshon who always charges loses a lot of points getting passed. Zane nav has a whole video about this topic you can watch.

@@icefalcon2243 Ben Johns and Fed return and come in 95% of the time. They know to win the point one must be at the net. I’ve seen Christian Alston stay back a little against Jack Sock because of Sock’s potent forehand but the most success Christian has is when he returns and comes in.
