I know the amount of ads seems quite excessive but I’m prettty sure she doesn’t have Patreon or something similar, so If i have to watch these ads in 43min video I wouldnt complain a lot. Im sure she is many people’s favourite booktube person and if this helps her going, im glad to support
Please do a book notes video or flip through of your notes! Would be great to see how you document your thoughts as I tend to write either too much or too little 💖💖
I watched the whole thing. A shame that ads would deter people from watching. You are such an insightful, wickedly eloquent, brilliantly intelligent woman. Love you immenseeee amounts xx
Oh my God, we've been blessed! I was about to rewatch one of the recent ones, and here you've just uploaded! Thank you for how often you've uploaded lately, by the way✨
Jess, please address the issue with ads if you care about your viewers. If it’s a money issue or YT, do let us know what’s going on. It’s not ads in general that are a problem, but their amount is. And guys, don’t tell me to get Premium. The whole “thing” about YT has always been free content, we pay with our time.
Get ad blocker like brave app and you won’t ever get any ads. It’s excessive and no one has time to sit through 12 ads on a 45 min video plus it’s not enjoyable. Ad blocker is the best for TH-cam
Mimi 1703 that’s really a difference between YT and “other jobs”, the “relationship” between “influencers” and their viewers. She doesn’t have to explain, that’s why I said “if you care”. That would make it easier for us as viewers to watch all these ads. I think with such high competition on the platform caring about your viewers is important.
Temi Tina I watch her videos on my phone. Also I think it would be better for her if people watched ads (I may be wrong), I can watch 2-3 ads per video like this, no problem, but this amount is disrespectful.
another youtuber i watch has mentioned that the option to place ads in YT videos is automatically turned on, and the uploader has to manually go in to turn off this option. it's possible that jess is not aware of this or has forgotten to turn off the ad feature.
I live for your book videos and all of your bookish content. Your literary analysis inspires me to read more closely and take notes while I read and also elevate my reading! Thank you for the great content (as always). 💕
Hi Jess, I love your book videos as a fellow voracious reader! One of the things I love about them is that they are so calming and relaxing to watch. I usually end up with a lot of books on my want to read list! Sadly the amount of ads in the last two videos have made the videos significantly less relaxing to watch. I’m not sure if this is a TH-cam problem at the moment but hopefully it can be sorted out for future videos! X
Hi Jess! Really loving the consistent uploads. thanks so much :) I'm so excited to watch this with a nice cuppa, love hearing your opinions on books we should read.
I read the new wilderness this month as well and was so excited to hear your thoughts. i really appreciated your pointing out the lack of racial/ethnic diversity among the characters. one issue i had with the book was that for the most part the characters felt underdeveloped or flat. i found myself forgetting that a character even existed until he/she spoke, which i think speaks to the fact that they weren't fleshed out very well. i am embarrassed to say i hadn't noticed the lack of diversity until you pointed it out, and once you did it felt like a gaping hole in the story. i think the character development and story as a whole would have seriously benefitted from some intersectionality.
The number of adverts in this video was excessive. Constant interruptions spoil otherwise enjoyable content. If a tv show contained 12 advert breaks in 45 minutes no one would watch it.
i love all your videos so much, i think you’re so intelligent in the way you talk about books and I love it. excited for the weekly vlogs this month as well!
😬 the in video ads were a bit annoying. Some were placed right where you were in the middle of saying something and I found it disruptive, especially when you were saying something important xxx
oh, i can't wait to hear what you think of 'white is for witching'. i read jesmyn ward's 'men we reaped' this year and loved it. another non-fiction and so, so powerful
I read the new wilderness this month too, and I completely agree - it's a readable book and not unenjoyable! I also didn't rave about it, I really wanted more of an exploration of harshness and of nature 'fighting' back at all the damage done by humans. But I guess I tend to project what I want from a book onto an author, without that necessarily being delivered in the writing. I also found that there were missed opportunities with the story line, things like making the relationships between the members of the group more complex or the premise of the 'new wilderness' being more mysterious/brutal than what it was. Thank you for taking the time to review and talk about all these books, I have to say it is an absolute delight to tune into these book videos!
I really enjoy listening to you while I paint :) You are very well spoken and knowledgeable and down to earth! I’ll definitely read Love and Other Thought Experiments x Thank you Jess!
I love your book videos so much! I also love to read the blog post for every possible deets 🖤 I would love to see some fashion content because I really love your style!
Thank you for breaking me away from only existing in the realm of the 19th century fiction. You’ve introduced me to some wonderful modern authors that I wouldn’t have found otherwise! 💜
You are one of my biggest inspirations on TH-cam! I've been watching your videos for years since I came from Beijing to study Art in the US. Now, my English proved, and I don't have to turn on the subtitles all the time lol. Even though we never met in person, I feel like you are already an old friend of mine. I wish you the best, and maybe one day, I can give you some of my artworks! 爱你🌻 (Also, just bought the book "The Master and Margarita", I can't wait to read it!)
i mean... come on people its free content that you are consuming bc someone is working very hard for you to be entertained... the least you can do is watch the ads 🙄🙄🙄
I'm just commenting so I get a notification if someone answers :) Other booktubers are very into YA, light reads, and are super high energy lol I'm definitely looking for someone that's more like Jess
I really recommend 'Salvage the Bones' by Jesmyn Ward if you're wanting to read more of her content - I read that in the final year of my undergrad and it's such a moving and beautifully written book. It follows an African-American family in Mississippi in the build up to, during, and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
As always, love your book videos. I will definitely be getting White is for Witching and reading it this month, as it was already on my TBR and then you mentioned it so I was like YES, DONE, gotta get that one! Your discussion of The New Wilderness was really interesting, I wonder why she acknowledged it but not in the actual text. That's a shame. The Thought Experiment one sounds SO good, I did a philosophy of mind course at uni while doing my Classics and Philosophy degree and I loved that course, the Chinese Room in particular. How cool! At first I thought, "what are people complaining about? it's a 49 minute video, there's bound to be more ads than a 12 minute video", and I stand by that, but then I got four ads within the first 17 minutes, one of which was within 4 minutes of the previous one, and the last one in the 20 minutes block being within 3 minutes of the previous one, and that is a bit much. I don't know how much of it is in your control, probably not much, but yeah.
I read along with you in September New Wilderness by Diane Cook and found it really great. I quite like this kind of dystopian novel and also the writing about the mother/daughter relationship is so powerful by showing us the complexity, the misunderstanding between two humans. However, after you said that you found quite disturbing the fact that she was inspired by other cultures but did not mention it in the novel itself and also the fact that EVERYONE is white, was eye-opening for me. Jess, you pointed out a very important fact which I glimpsed during my reading but I have to be more aware next time. Thank you and keep safe xx (I look forward to read a lot of the books you mentioned in your October TBR!!)
Shuggie Bain is one of the best books I think I've ever read. BIG fan. I felt very sucked in to Shuggies world. Although according to my Glaswegian mum I think its pronounced 'Shuggie' as opposed to 'Shoogie'.
Everytime you talk about how much you love nature writing, I think of how badly you need to read Edward Abbey! Desert Solitaire is especially gorgeous, all about Moab, Utah, and The Monkey Wrench Gang is one of his I'm reading right now that focuses on the same region -Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. I know you love the American Southwest - I would highly recommend checking him out!
To your point about disliking books about characters who are bloggers: I'm in law school and I have a really hard time reading crime books/courtroom dramas now because of how romanticized and unrealistic to the process they are.
just for an idea, should you talk about books that you dont have in hand, it would be nicer to have an edit of the picture of the book cover put beside you, so we get the idea of the books you are talking about
I understand that you need ads to make some money, but they definitely interrupted the flow. I couldn't actually settle into the video and enjoy it which is unfortunate as I find your voice to be soothing and really enjoy your thoughts on the books. I just couldn't enjoy the video. Is it possible to do the type of ads that appear at the bottom of the screen rather than the constant interruptions?
Do you guys not realise this is her job?? I don’t understand this hate for the ads... it’s a few seconds out of the video and in the grand scheme of your life? Really not that important. Leave her be, is it not much more useful for her that you provide feedback on the content of her actual video?
Get TH-cam Premium guys it's amazing. The family plan means it ends up being around $4 per person in a 6 person household. No more ads on videos & I cancelled my Spotify membership to save money and use the included TH-cam Music instead. As annoying as ads are she's completely entitled to include however many ads as she wants on HER videos. Jess put effort into making content she should earn money from it somehow.
She makes money off of ads, do they honestly bother you that much? Can a person make some money whilst making good content for you to enjoy for free? Get over it.
I know the amount of ads seems quite excessive but I’m prettty sure she doesn’t have Patreon or something similar, so If i have to watch these ads in 43min video I wouldnt complain a lot. Im sure she is many people’s favourite booktube person and if this helps
her going, im glad to support
I put this video on, made a cup of tea and had a pleasant morning ☕️✨ with adds. They don’t stop me from supporting good book content 💕
guys lol leave her alone regarding the ads, its a pandemic and she gotta make money and this content is free for us??
It's just feedback. She can take it or leave it. It's not personal.
Please do a book notes video or flip through of your notes! Would be great to see how you document your thoughts as I tend to write either too much or too little 💖💖

No other job would someone have to explain their money issues !

Anya Real yeah that’s true x
another youtuber i watch has mentioned that the option to place ads in YT videos is automatically turned on, and the uploader has to manually go in to turn off this option. it's possible that jess is not aware of this or has forgotten to turn off the ad feature.
I’m pretty sure that’s only on older videos that are shorter than 10 mins from when they changed the rule regarding in video ads x
I don't mind supporting Jess by watching ads so she can make a living from this
I live for your book videos and all of your bookish content. Your literary analysis inspires me to read more closely and take notes while I read and also elevate my reading! Thank you for the great content (as always). 💕

What’s up with all the ads? 😣
Hi Jess! Really loving the consistent uploads. thanks so much :) I'm so excited to watch this with a nice cuppa, love hearing your opinions on books we should read.

LOVE your hair! I was obsessed with the perfume movie in my late teens 😁
The number of adverts in this video was excessive. Constant interruptions spoil otherwise enjoyable content. If a tv show contained 12 advert breaks in 45 minutes no one would watch it.
i agree!! i stopped watching her last book video too because there were 2 ads ads every 3 minutes. it really ruins the flow of the video.
Agree as well, it’s more like a waste of time. Honestly, I’m really hesitant on watching this...
I watched the whole thing, no complaints here, I'm such a fan Jess, keep up the great work!
I was just rewatching one of your old book videos! Perfect timing!
i love all your videos so much, i think you’re so intelligent in the way you talk about books and I love it. excited for the weekly vlogs this month as well!
She did her Master in Literature
Back to back book videos got me like 😍 so much quality content!! Absolutely adore you, Jess 💕
😬 the in video ads were a bit annoying. Some were placed right where you were in the middle of saying something and I found it disruptive, especially when you were saying something important xxx

so happy to have 2 book videos back to back, time to put the kettle on 🥰
I really enjoy listening to you while I paint :)
You are very well spoken and knowledgeable and down to earth!
I’ll definitely read Love and Other Thought Experiments x Thank you Jess!
I would love a hair routine! Your hair is always so shiny!!
I love your book videos so much! I also love to read the blog post for every possible deets 🖤
I would love to see some fashion content because I really love your style!
Thank you for breaking me away from only existing in the realm of the 19th century fiction. You’ve introduced me to some wonderful modern authors that I wouldn’t have found otherwise! 💜
You should do a video with your favorite nature ambiance/atmospheric writing recommendations!
Are you trying to single-handedly save Yemen? What's with all the ads??
You are one of my biggest inspirations on TH-cam! I've been watching your videos for years since I came from Beijing to study Art in the US. Omg you look so cute !!! Loving the hair !! Also, book content from you makes me so happy and motivated to read more
i mean... come on people its free content that you are consuming bc someone is working very hard for you to be entertained... the least you can do is watch the ads 🙄🙄🙄
does anyone know of any other booktubers similar to Jess?!
I’m wanting to find others like her too! The other booktubers I’ve found are heavily YA and romance involved which isn’t to my taste.
I'm just commenting so I get a notification if someone answers :) Other booktubers are very into YA, light reads, and are super high energy lol I'm definitely looking for someone that's more like Jess
Thank you so much for these videos, Jess. They've been keeping me company through a bit of a rough patch.
I really recommend 'Salvage the Bones' by Jesmyn Ward if you're wanting to read more of her content - I read that in the final year of my undergrad and it's such a moving and beautifully written book. Such a fun video! I really liked your commentary on The Book of Not, it’s definitely bumped up Nervous Conditions in my to buy list 🤗
Can we just talk about how aesthetic the video is?
girl, at this rate you're gonna become the poster child for AdBlock
😂😂🤣
anyone else not notice ads?
Great video! Love that you went into more detail about the books than usual x
15 mins in and I'm out. The ridiculous amount of ads ruined it for me..
love your book videos!

Jess, I read because of you :)) THE best book reviews..smart girl!
So excited about the book club picks! Happened to already have Perfume but never got around to it before
Shuggie Bain is one of the best books I think I've ever read. BIG fan. I felt very sucked in to Shuggies world. Although according to my Glaswegian mum I think its pronounced 'Shuggie' as opposed to 'Shoogie'.
Listened to Shuggie Bain on audio.. and loved it, it made me cry and laugh. Just for info Shuggie rhymes with huggie 😉

yay!! :') my favorite day of the month
just a heads up for ya'll, install an adblock and you won't have any ads on the video. problem solved :)
can't wait! my favourite videos
Guys I don't think the ads are her fault cause I've been noticing we're all getting different amounts of them, I got 9 while some got like 13.
Beautiful headband!
I looove your look for this book vid! And ofc despite your slump it’s still a good list 😊
To your point about disliking books about characters who are bloggers: I'm in law school and I have a really hard time reading crime books/courtroom dramas now because of how romanticized and unrealistic to the process they are.
You’re being to good to us. I’ve been in hospital for several weeks now and your videos make my days :)
I really enjoy your reviews.
does anyone know any london charity shops that do nice cheap books, ive just moved here! thanks in advance xxxx
Oxfam and skoob books are options, just google it
@@cat_pb oh amazing thank you!
Hi rediscovering your channel again 🤗 Have you ever given a tour of your bookshelf before? It’s amazing!
Video length 40 ish minutes? I am on it!
most of it is ad breaks
I recently purchased the shadow king, I'll see what I think ^^
I don't see any ads tho...
Yay! been waiting for that one :>
Pretty sure I left a comment about the ads here. Is Jess deleting comments again?
just for an idea, should you talk about books that you dont have in hand, it would be nicer to have an edit of the picture of the book cover put beside you, so we get the idea of the books you are talking about
she always does that lol
Please get a lapel microphone; it will eradicate the incessant traffic noise 😩🙏
love u so much.hope u see u soon sis🥰❤️🐦
She's gonna stop making videos at some point, under every video people are complaining about something different.
Too much adds Jess
Litteraly 13 ads for just THIS video
I understand that you need ads to make some money, but they definitely interrupted the flow.
