    Sometimes I forget to express how much I LOVE this channel...Jess is my favourite content creator in the entire world and these book videos are just the frosting on the beautiful cake that is this channel. I love the style, the makeup, the books, the vlogs and now we have baby content and I'm just so happy to be here!🧡 Sorry for the blabbering but I'm just really happy to be here and I can't stop thinking about Dead Astraunauts, so thank you!

    Ahhh I’m so glad you liked Dead Astronauts! If I ever do a graduate degree I want to write about the Borne series, so much to work with there.

    A few baby books you should check out for little one: ‘A is for Awesome’ is an a-z book about amazing women throughout history, ‘change starts with us’ about global warming and the environment & ‘what if we where all the same!’ is a great one about diversity and accepting everyone for their differences. All available on Amazon❤️

    Jessi I’m so happy you’re back!!!! I think you’ll enjoy “the lies of Locke Lamora” by Scott Lynch (which is the first book in the gentleman bastard series) for the same reasons that you’ve been struggling to get along with fantasy series, in fact if you look the book up on goodreads you’ll find Patrick Rothfuss’s review in which he points out that his book is super slowed paced and doesn’t deliver as much as the one from Scott lynch hahaha

    I loved the Flowers for Algernon, I listened via audio and I wonder if that made a difference in my interest because I thought it was really good and partly because I enjoyed the telling, likely less if I had read in print. Enjoyed The Paper Menagerie as well, select ones more than others. I just sampled Calypso, sounds funny, will look forward to that one. Glad you are enjoying all that comes with being a new mother, happy summer!

    It's great to have you back with bookish content! What are some other Caribbean authors/books you would recommend? I've been reading These Ghosts are Family by Maisy Card for Read Caribbean month and would love to try some more Caribbean literature.🌴🌺

    Love your comments about short story form - I think it’s such a difficult one to nail which makes me appreciate great collections when they come along. Would be so curious to hear your thoughts on flash fiction and how you find that as a form?
    Loved Born into This by Adam Thompson (if you’re looking for a 🔥🔥🔥 short story collection to check out from Australia)

    I would say give The Grace of Kings a try! It’s not like the Poppy War at all. His choices in narrative structure/style are really interesting, and it has the same blend of science fiction, fantasy, and history that you see in The Paper Menagerie

    I think that "Flowers for Algernon" the original short story that eventually became the novel is much better than the novel. I'd recommend just reading the short story.

  • @cutecheerfreak1
    @cutecheerfreak1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Flowers for Algernon is one of my favorite books ever lol although I’m so desensitized to problematic material in classics, I almost don’t consider it in my opinion of them, I’m not sure if that’s good though.

    I bought Calypso at an airport on a whim 30 minutes before a flight nearly 3 years ago. I fucking LOVED it. I loved the casual, memoir/short stories-style of the writing and the sprinkled in humor was fantastic. Perfect balance of storytelling, insight, and humor. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!! (Of course we all have different tastes, so I won’t come after you if you don’t lol)

    I'm a little taken aback and disappointed by your comment about the narrators northern accent. The idea that northern accents are less desirable is so outdated and bizarre to me. The prejudice jumped out I guess...

    • @0607span
      @0607span 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it’s definitely a way to make your northern viewers feel ostracised!

    • @infirstperson
      @infirstperson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This might be the wrong interpretation, but I thought she meant it wasn't a very good accent? Like the person reading the novel was putting on the accent and didn't do a good job?

    • @0607span
      @0607span 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@infirstperson that makes sense - I really hope that’s the case!

    • @katie8325
      @katie8325 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think she meant the narrator’s attempt at the accent left a lot to be desired, rather than northern accents as a whole. There’s no plausible reason why she would just have a random dig at northern accents!

    • @emilyappleton3076
      @emilyappleton3076 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@katie8325 Definitely could be the case and really hope it is, however a quick google shows the narrator of the audiobook is from the North West (and has a lovely, soft northern dialect in my opinion). I'm from the North West myself so it sounds very familiar and authentic to me, which is why I was a bit taken aback by the negative comment made.

    I have been watching you for years(back when you had green hair! :)) and I have a feeling that we kinda grew up together, as I am finishing my masters at the moment. However, I would love to see more chatty videos from you, opinions about different topics that interest, even advice videos because I think you are very intelligent.To be honest, the videos have become quite repetitive.This is just my opinion, of course, I will still be watching the majority of the videos you put out as always. Take care of yourself and your baby and have a great day!😊

    Liked the video but the southern accent sometimes left a little to be desired…
