Slight addition for Kang HyungHo's info. He majored chemical engeenering at Busan "National" University (so all 4 are from national university quite elites) and worked as research chemist in Samsung BP chemical. Samsung sold the chemical industry to Lotte and that made HyungHo have more day-offs than under Samsung so he could participate in Phantom Singer 2 audition. Thank you for another analysis of forestella! I really liked your comment on Mingyu's vibrato, the one you said sounded like his voice was shimmering. I didn't hear it in that way, but it definitely made me appreciate that part more. As for Hyungho, the counter tenor, he is not trained. The other 3 are. I don't know what exactly "trained" means in this text. I know HyungHo is a self-taught type of genius and didn't have any professional vocal training. But DooHoon (I'll say DH because we have so many "he" in this male quartet lol) wasn't classically trained either. DH majors in acting and basically an actor. DH is the most mysterious one in this group. As far I know DH sang as vocalist in fusion KukAk (Korean traditional music) band Soriya, 연후애 YeonHooAe and AUX. And while on the military service participated in the Voice Korea 2, went up to semifinal live. With DH's singing the famous number This is the Moment from the musical Jekyll and Hyde at the semifinal round he became debut as a musical actor. DH had 5 years career as a musical actor when he auditioned at Phantom Singer 2 where made all 4 members bound to this group Forestella. I think DH is another type of genius and very talented, dedicating so much in harmonizing. Maybe DH can be considered as "trained" in musical theater. But for me DH is one of non-classical vocals / rock duo (DH and HH had a rock duo concert together) like HyungHo. DH goes closer to pop singer while HH goes rocker tho. It's very wonderful to have these non-classical members in this classical crossover quartet. That diverses the group color more versatile like the classic vocal members also doing great job in pop songs reducing operatic tones.
@@manaciel By "trained" I mean formally taught, regardless of genre. Hyungho is self-taught (at least pre-phantom singer). Doohoon, as you mentioned, is a musical actor plus originally debuted in a gugak crossover band. So he does absolutely have vocal training, it's just not opera.
@@kais.9829 Thank you for clarifying what you meant, I got it now. In that way DooHoon might be trained while Voice Korea 2 audition. He was in the Shin SeungHoon's team so maybe he got taught by the Balade Emperor- Shin SeungHoon. (I couldn't watch that show so it's my guess tho.)
@@manaciel Probably. Usually on those shows competitors receive some coaching. Though I assume he also had some training before that? Probably in college, and I think he did theater in middle school and/or high school.
@@kais.9829 I don't know if his acting major faculty has some classes for singing. He said he was in acting club when he was a middleschooler and he had a big fun doing it. That made him suddenly decide the acting major in his last year as a highschooler just before the summer vacation. He studied quite well and he was in charge of the president of student body (it could be his 2nd grader time BTW) in the high-school so his decision might have surprised people around him.
This was performed over 3 years ago, so since Ko Worrim (the bass) is 27 now, he would be only 24, or maybe only 23 at the time. I didn't know someone could have such a developed bass voice like that at such a young age!

@@Scheherasad No, it's not the change of voices, even any rookie like Marcelo Pomoy does it. It is the lack of the difficult lyrical technique marked, rounded in his head voice (imposition with low larynx) that the song requires. opting By a head voice "Simple/Lightweight" airy pop style and easy to handle the high notes. In the middle register it is linear without vibrato. And their belt is pushed, with poor chordal closure, due to how steep and irregular the lines appear in the FFT spectrum images. And his notes are not even 40% close to the 293.7 Hz vibrations per second Value considered as Perfect tone/tuning. And so many more aspects. I think I’m becoming a fan of them as well 😂 Thank you so much for your analysis AGAIN! I really learn a lot from you - and it was so much fun watching you watch the video. The pure joy just poured through my screen!

Peter!! You HAVE to listen to their latest single Utopia, it's a rock opera and it's insane... it's so good I'm sure you'll have so much fun analyzing it. There's just so much going on I can't understand what's happening 😂 I'd love to see how an expert dissects all those crunchy melodies. Happy holidays!!
They do so many different genres. Classical, rock, ballad, pop, tango, jazz, trot, folk, K-pop, and countless other genres are challenged, but surprisingly, they all transform perfectly into their own colors. They are excellent at putting on their own colors without losing the essence of the original song. I recommend Shape of You, Je Suis Malade, Hijo de la Luna, and Time in a Bottle for the next songs. Keep listening to their music. You will never regret it.♥️
Hey Peter! You should check out their 'We are the champions' cover as well, I'm obsessed with that one, it's amazing. Just like everything they do really. 😌
Thank you a lot for your reaction!!! My suggestion for the next song is definitely je suis malade, where bae doo hoon (the baritone/tenor) will deliver what you have been waiting for
Thanks Peter for your lovely analyzes! You taught me so I understand that why I love Forestella so much must be their vibrato…. You talked about fast and natural vibrato among many brilliant things you say! 😍One of the reasons to love Forestella! Right now they are touring in the US and you must check out one of the videos of Phantom of the Opera!! It is the soprano singing like an angel! I have never heard anyone singing like that! He must be an angel sent from God to us! You really believe so when you listen to it! ❤
Please do more!! I haven't found an arrangement of theirs I don't love. Ko, the basso profundo and Cho are both professional opera trained. Cho is the groups leader. The counter tenor, Kang (who calls himself a te-prano!) has had NO training! He's a chemist! And his range is phenomenal! Then there's Bae, the baritone. He is a professionally trained musical theatre guy. You didn't hear much of him here but you will in some of their other arrangements. He does a killer version of Gethsemane that literally leaves you in tears...no matter what your faith! As you can tell, I'm really loving this group! Thanks for introducing us to them! More please!!! They do a seriously beautiful version of Inner Universe from Ghost in the Shell! Again...thanks for helping us find this incredible group!!!
Appreciate your insightful reaction and analysis as always! Please check out Forestella's performance of "Je Suis Malade" (made famous by Lara Fabian's cover) next, which really showcases each member's vocals- particularly the bass (Ko Woorim) and baritenor (Bae Doohoon).
the leggiero tenor at 7:37, cho mingyu, (where you talked about vibrato) is also an opera singer. last time i posted woorim's opera performances, but mingyu has an entire youtube channel with amazing performances of opera as well as songs from musicals and movies: www.youtube.com/@whalsrb88/videos the countertenor, kang hyungho, is a freak of nature because he is the only member of the group who had no professional training before the group formed. he was the front man of an amateur garage band, he also has his own youtube channel with his solos: www.youtube.com/@pitta8040 the final member is bae doohoon, the baritenor. he is a musical actor. unfortunately his solo stages from musicals are hard to come by. they don't seem to do cast recordings in korea and they are strict about zapping illicit recording of musicals. however there are tons of fancams of forestella concerts!
Thank you for taking the time to listen, appreciate, and break down 2 of Forestella's covers! It's particularly interesting to hear your perspective on Kim Woorim's (the bass singer) skills and technique, as an operatic bass yourself. I learned some new things today, thank you! And yeah, Forestella isn't EXACTLY a kpop group; mostly since they don't really have a mainstream sound. But they do market themselves in a similar manner, with the elaborate album packages and promos. They perform on a lot of the same music broadcast channels in Korea as most kpop idol groups, as well. Forestella just released a new original EP called "UTOPIA" literally a week ago. The music video is an art piece in itself, that perfectly aids in the storytelling of the track, but they have performed it live too. Some comments under the upload of the live performance by those who were actually in the audience, note that the impact of the members' live voices and their stage presence upstaged the recorded track lol. I really do believe it's their best original song to date. They leaned sooo hard into drama of opera for Utopia and it's such an amazing aural experience. They really outdid themselves! I would recommend giving it a listen on your own time, at least, if you don't plan on doing another to them for a while.
Some of the musical talents coming out of Korea are absolutely crazy. That counter-tenor was actually a regular office guy, having no musical training. He was just born with a god-given voice and natural talent, much like SoHyang.
Actually May I make a slight update on Kang HyungHo… was never a regular office guy ….he is actually a chemical research engineer by training and who worked for 4 years in that capacity at a company owned by Samsung who then sold it to Lotte… I’ve seen the video on You Tube stating he was an office worker.. it’s not accurate. Let’s try and get them to update their video. Kang Hyung Ho, just like the other 3 members, deserves much respect for what he has achieved, despite no Formal musical training. He has been involved in music and even won music comps since middle school right thru to the band he joined at work. He has been tirelessly doing a tremendous amount of self-development whilst also concurrently pursuing his growing success as Pitta…his music act outside Forestella. Hope you find this as fascinating as I did if you’re not already aware of this .😊
Your analysis helps me appreciate more of each musical effort that I didn't quite catch before. Thank you so much! I'd also like to recommend Forestella's "Scarborough Fair", "Inner Universe", "Champions", "Nella Fantasia", "Angel", "My Heart Will Go On", "Je suis malade", "Time in a Bottle", "We are the Champions", "Moonlight", "My Favorite Things", "In Un'altra Vita", "L'immensita", "Dell'amore Non Sisa", "The Sky and the Dawn and the Sun", etc.
You should hear their original work! Save our Lives is stunning. Also the bass Ko Woorim just got married to a figure skater and they'll be in the US for a few stops next year!
I read thru the comments so no need to explain Forestella...😊 I am a subscriber to your channel and will hopefully be able to do Patreon soon. Your analysis was informative. I don't feel you paused too much and explains so much with the techniques of Forestella as a group and individually. For those who have little to no musical knowledge, you are easy to understand. I love your reaction videos. Please keep up the good work.
I always feel the last chord is not where I would have gone with it-it feels unresolved to me . However I love these guys and who am I to quibble...lol..
I’ve watched this performance so many times, and yet you point out things I would’ve never noticed by myself. It’s always fascinating to have people who know a lot about a subject lend you a big of their knowledge and make it understandable.

I'm totally agree ✨ woorim is just amazing . No more words needed 💕
Avi Kaplan was a trained very deep bass at only 20-21 years of age. So I can believe this young man can perform amazingly in his early - mid 20s!❤
I wouldn't be surprised if baby Woorim cried for a bottle of milk with that deep voice. 😅😅😅
Wow! You all must listen to Forestella’s Utopia that just came out! Too good for this world!! Unbelievably fantastic - a true show by them again! ❤️
Merci, merci, merci !

No, it's not the change of voices, even any rookie like Marcelo Pomoy does it.
It is the lack of the difficult lyrical technique marked, rounded in his head voice (imposition with low larynx) that the song requires. opting
By a head voice
"Simple/Lightweight" airy pop style and easy to handle the high notes.
In the middle register it is linear without vibrato.
And their belt is pushed, with poor chordal closure, due to how steep and irregular the lines appear in the FFT spectrum images.
And his notes are not even 40% close to the 293.7 Hz vibrations per second
Value considered as
Perfect tone/tuning.
And so many more aspects. All those subtle details not perceptible to any human ear, even the most expert, are scientifically measurable parameters,
Through digital measurement engineering tools: FFT spectral imaging, the most advanced form of vocal analysis,
even far superior to placing a camera in the throat💯
Thanks for your reaction. I love opera, adores Woorim, the bass, love Forestella. Listening to them is a musical/vocal experience! By the way, I love your voice. Forestella fan forever! 💖💖💖💖
Hi Peter, nice reaction as always. You should see their version of Je Suis Malade. It’s break your heart.
I think I’m becoming a fan of them as well 😂
Thank you so much for your analysis AGAIN!
I really learn a lot from you - and it was so much fun watching you watch the video. The pure joy just poured through my screen!
I love these guys , they are the perfection ❤
Si forestella son buenísimo me encantan ❤❤
Their rendition of Je Suis Malade is to die for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indeed! That cover gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it... The amount of emotion they put into their singing is just surreal
I love their Nella Fantasia, Legends Never Die and Time in A Bottle covers!
Thanks for your reaction.
Forestella will hold solo concerts next year in Los Angeles on January 20th, Vancouver on January 26th, New York on January 29th, Dallas on February 1st, and Atlanta on February 4th.
Their company announced the date on Atlanta changed into 5th Feb.
And the Los Angeles show is apparently sold out, good for them

Hey Peter! I had looked for more Forestella music, but somehow missed this one. Thank you so much for doing the analysis! They did a fantastic job!
Forestella is phenomenal.
Hi Peter, love your R&A’s! hope you do more of Forestella, a group I never get tired of listening to.
Thank you to react. It was very good to me~
Peter, I think you would love Woorim's cover of 'The Christmas song' original by Nat King Cole, and also 'Les Feuilles Mortes'.
You will never regret it.♥️
Forestella- warriors
Among Forestella's video reactions, your video is the best. May I ask for Forestella's Champions video?
This is breathtaking!!! Unbelievably beautiful harmony.
Hey Peter! You should check out their 'We are the champions' cover as well, I'm obsessed with that one, it's amazing. Just like everything they do really. 😌
I love to hear how a professional is impressed by other singers!
Thank you a lot for your reaction!!! My suggestion for the next song is definitely je suis malade, where bae doo hoon (the baritone/tenor) will deliver what you have been waiting for
it's always a treat to have you analyze my fave singers! ❤️
Bass Woorim is toulouse concours 2016 semi finalist.
You wondered about them dancing and singing. Hehe watch Waka Waka! :) Or, a little calmer, Smooth Criminal. :)
I love this group! Especially her new song Utopia
Muchas gracias por mostrar la belleza de mi grupo favorito Forestella. Son realmente maravillosos.
Appreciate your insightful reaction and analysis as always! Please check out Forestella's performance of "Je Suis Malade" (made famous by Lara Fabian's cover) next, which really showcases each member's vocals- particularly the bass (Ko Woorim) and baritenor (Bae Doohoon).
the leggiero tenor at 7:37, cho mingyu, (where you talked about vibrato) is also an opera singer. last time i posted woorim's opera performances, but mingyu has an entire youtube channel with amazing performances of opera as well as songs from musicals and movies:
www.youtube.com/@whalsrb88/videos
the countertenor, kang hyungho, is a freak of nature because he is the only member of the group who had no professional training before the group formed. he was the front man of an amateur garage band, he also has his own youtube channel with his solos:
www.youtube.com/@pitta8040
the final member is bae doohoon, the baritenor. he is a musical actor. unfortunately his solo stages from musicals are hard to come by. they don't seem to do cast recordings in korea and they are strict about zapping illicit recording of musicals. however there are tons of fancams of forestella concerts!
voice korea season1 check it out . he can be found
Thank you for sharing those channels! A great resource.

You HAVE to listen to their performance of Nella Fantasia. Omg it hits me in the feels so hard. It’s absolutely stunning
Seriously wonderful!! Thanks Peter for all your analysis!
Hope you find this as fascinating as I did if you’re not already aware of this .😊
omg i hope you’ll listen to their cover on “shape of you”
Beautiful voice 😍
They are wonderful!!!
X-mas song for Forestella is “Angel”
You rock Mr. Barber.
You should hear their original work! Save our Lives is stunning.
Also the bass Ko Woorim just got married to a figure skater and they'll be in the US for a few stops next year!
This group is going on US tour in January. Perhaps they are performing at a city near you. I plan to attend the Southern California stop.
React to forestella's "je suis malade" please. The song is incredible.
scarborough fair도 리액션 해주세요!
Please listen to Angel by Forestella. Love your analysis, thank you.
I love this. I also love their “ Scarborough Fair” …… chills ✨✨✨✨✨
What a perfect performance and analysis 👏
Loving the analysis of this group.

정말 대단한 그룹입니다~~👍👍
I’ve watched this performance so many times, and yet you point out things I would’ve never noticed by myself. It’s always fascinating to have people who know a lot about a subject lend you a big of their knowledge and make it understandable.
Thank you for your Forestella reaction video!
