Her performance ‘Everyone’ might be one of the best vocal showcases I’ve heard, it absolutely solidified her as the top singer on the planet in my opinion.

SoHyang is a Gospel singer. She’s a devout born again Christian, which is why she has turned down many contracts she’s been offered by the West.
That, and when she looked over the last offer from Sony Music US and discussed it with her sister in law, who is also a signed label artist, Sohyang knew she could not do all the concerts they were asking for with her limited state of health, so she said no. She liked being a free woman and I don't blame her.

She is Korean (now 44) a ccm/gospel singer, devout Christian, cancer survivor, university prof, cartoonist and fantasy novelist. She is not only one of the best female vocalists currently on the planet but a remarkable human being also. She is an independent artist who has turned down recording contracts from the big labels, including from Sony during 2020. She has no social media, and says her goal is to use her voice in order to bring comfort to people going through difficult times. G5 is actually not high for her, it is right at her tessitura. Her register is completely connected, and each note is supported and resonant. She can belt up to a C6 with a perfectly balanced mixed voice.
As an operatic singer, she's technically the most complete vocalist I've heard.
But what he said is that he heard fullchest, not exactly mix voice, and for fullchest is not normal get an G.
But belt in mix, we know some singers that can go in 6 octaves.

There are plenty of singers that can go up to 6 octaves. The problem is that they do so by straining and screaming which is not considered singing. The reason why Sohyang is so great is that her entire range is supported and resonant. Sorry for the late response.

David Foster is a producer, Michael Bolton had zero training (and as he works with her anyway... hometown bias?), Josh Groban has almost zero training. Sumi Jo is the real deal but she literally has to support the home town and Brandon Graham? are you talking about the NFL player or the comic book writer... I think you are confusing famous with expert.
So reference some actual "vocal" experts... "Elizabeth Zharoff, Lolli Wren, Tara Simon, Anna Vaskelainen (who all love her but none of them actually call her the best in the world) or any others who understand the voice and technique... (technically she is near perfect but so are many others)
Which experts? if you were to say she is the best Gospel singer on the planet that could be difficult to argue with... but she is not the best opera singer, jazz singer, metal singer, rock singer, country singer, or any form of world singing (Carnatic, Hindustani, Mawwal, Pelimanni, Koohmei etc) singer.

Somehow it’s more insane than this (I honestly consider Bridge over troubled water one of her “milder” performances in terms of range (yes, she belts even higher than Gs) and riffs and stamina, which is crazy in and of itself lmao) So buckle your seatbelts coz that performance? Insane. （Also would recommend performances like arirang alone, lean on me, etc.)

I promise you, nothing that Sohyang sings is accidentally "faulty" :) She definitely has absolute control over her voice. You'll be convinced once you check out more of her!
She is a gospel singer, she grew up in the church, met her husband there. She also battle crevice cancer, she does all her arrangements and on top of that she an author of syfy books
Sohyang is one of my favorite female singers. She's so amazing. I wouldn't call her the Korean Mariah Carey because she doesn't whistle. She's more like the Korean Whitney Houston. Check out her rendition of "Everyone". To recommend someone new for your channel: Forestella, a male crossover vocal quartet, also from South Korea like Sohyang. Their cover of "Hijo de la luna" would be a good start.
I can't believe Peter hasn't Reacted to Forestella. They are all amazing. Ko WooRim's Basso Profundo just grabs you, but Kang Hyung-Ho's vocal range can almost match Dimash, (with no previous vocal training other than as a hobby Rock Singer). 😲 Cho Mingyu is such a wonderful leader and driving force, with a lovely tenor voice. And Bae Doo-Hoon's Theatrical background is so effective (especially on "Je suis Malade" which is my favourite even though I'm a huge Queen/Freddie Mercury fan). Back to Sohyang.. Just so pure every performance. You never worry she won't hit a note.

@@PeterBarber genuinely, Peter, I don't think you can resist Reacting to Forestella much longer longer. I grew up in a house surrounded by music, especially Opera. In my nearly 70 years, I have never heard a more perfect vocal harmony or powerful emotion conveyed, than on Forestella's "Je suis Malade". 😢 💔 It is simply superb on every level, with the "wall of sound" at the end taking your breath away. She is queen of mixed voice. When she sings she can run like Mariah but still they are in different categories.
I agree that Sohyang is perhaps the best on the planet - right there with Dimash. There are many Sohyang songs that deserve attention but I am just going to mention two: "Arirang Alone" which is a traditional Korean song hundreds of years old and the other is totally different - Day, Day; a very casual performance outdoors in some sort of festival (with a teepee??) and features Sohyang rapping(!!!!). She is one of the greatest vocalist in the world.But She wasn't known as well as popular because She sing for GOD and Comfort people who has hardtime Not for fame or money. ..In her youth, she turned down all offers from mega agencies for her beliefs...and now she is 44years old. .She has so many legendary live performances .
She always sings with sincerity whenever and wherever. So it comforts those who listen to her song...That's why I love her...And her singing skills are the best, not to mention...

SoHyang literally has one of the best mixed voice ever. It is just every vocalist's dream to have such a balanced and powerful mix. I've also heard from some other vocal coaches that one thing that is so amazing about SoHyang is that her mixed voice is just so powerful, resonant and has a lot of weight and gritness quality to it that we might sometimes get confused whether she is singing in her full chest or in her mixed voice. The mastery and control she has over her instrument is just insane. And of course it's not just about her high notes, her voice itself is a GEM. She touched people's hearts at the very first moment she open her mouth and sing.
Thanks for your reaction and analysis on this human phenomenon. There is no better singer on feelings transmission through her arrangements and performances. For better evaluation on her voical techinique try "Everyone", "Arrirang Alone" "I Will Always Love You" for Jazzy "Misty" "Childish Adult" for rapping "Day Day" and for monumental performances like this one, try "You Raise Me Up" "I Have Nothing" "Lean On Me". The fact that she made you cry just solidifies my own reaction to her when I first found her videos years ago. I don't have your musical theory and singing background, but I do love music, and she may as well be her own instrument in all of her arrangements.

Brilliant reaction to a truly world class singer. She sings a song called 'Everyone' which is a vocal masterclass. If you found Bridge Over Troubled Water emotional you'd better have tissues ready for this one! How anyone can maintain this quality over a demanding 7.5 minute performance is staggering. She sings in a mix of Korean and English and it is wonderful. I've read that she studied with Seth Riggs. You really can't go wrong with any of her performances as your next choice, but I'm partial to her rendition of Arirang Alone because you can really see the personal meaning it has for her, as well as it's a masterclass in audience connection.

@@goodm999 if you want a longer one that shows a good amount of his vocal skills I would recommend the story of one sky which he wrote and you could try the live version. If you like operatic or good chest voice Ulysse is good. For a little bit more modern I would say across endless dimensions Slavic bazaar 2021. Those songs don’t really go into his high range which he can sing soprano like in the diva dance Bastau concert if you like soprano high

Welcome to Sohyang's world. It was the international media that dubbed her the Korean Mariah Carey but I don't see much resemblance. Sohyang doesn't whistle, doesn't need to. Sohyang is known for her mixed voice, her angelic soft voice and her high belt. She is one of the best female vocalists alive today. Mariah was one her idols growing up but honestly she has probably surpassed Mariah in terms of vocal technique.
This was on Immortal Songs 2 which unlike idol, is not for singers to be discovered but for well known singers to compete against each other. More like a celebrity contest as it goes by audience vote and tends to be more about popularity. Each show has a theme and the theme for this one was 'English pop songs" Even if Bridge over Trouble Water is not really pop. Each singer arranges a song that they choose and they have whatever stage set up that they require. Sohyang tends to have a live orchestra with a few backup singers. Others might have something completely different. Also singers are invited onto this show they don't audition.
I would suggest "Arirang Alone" next, this is a beautiful Korean cultural song. Also on Immortal Songs 2, but that night the theme was 'traditional music".

@@avatardelamanana3123 Korean broadcasters do that to all artists. There are some fan cams but they tend to have poor sound quality and wobbly video to a lesser or greater extent.
She beats mariah in Mix Balance, but how over overall technique mariah still win. Sohyang Greattttt!!! Her runs and riff is great but mariah labeled as a invented melisma for a reason. Talking about chest belt, sohyang chest belt is weak, her c5 is not open while mariah using mix dominan chest up to Eb5

She was able to sing such a wonderful song, even though she had pneumonia at the time and was unable to speak normally.
For me, Dimash is the best male singer and Sohyang the best female singer on the planet. She sings purely to bring people comfort and hope. She’s a cancer survivor who often has pneumonia from Heb B she got from a blood transfusion. She teaches music at University, writes sci-fi books and sings her CCM! Her husband’s family and her family do all of her arrangements. When asked where her singing talent comes from, she quickly says “God”. Loved the reaction. And go watch her sing a song called EVERYONE. She says it’s technically the hardest song she’s ever sung and she doesn’t know if she’ll ever be well enough to sing it again.

The reason you thought the G5 did not have vibrato was because the broadcasters edited the note which lowered the resonance and vibrato.
Next I recommend "Everyone." make sure to find English subtitles. It is the most impressive technical song I have heard as an opera singer.

And she was quite sick when she was performing Dear Love and Do You Know. She revealed that she was looked after by family members and could barely speak during that period. And so, she barely had time to practise. Sohyang is a perfectionist. She would practice singing a song hundreds of times before she goes on stage to perform.

Arirang Alone is absolutely insane. Everyone is supposedly the most technically challenging per Sohyang herself. She sings with so much passion, and I kind of enjoy a bunch of her other emotionally intimate love song covers like Misty (Begin Again Korea version), Hug Me (DMC 2018 version). Her rendition of I Have Nothing (DMC 2015 version) was also the reason David Foster invited her to do a gig with him. Michael Bolton heard her rendition of Lean On Me and gave her a standing ovation and an invitation to come sing with him at his concert in South Korea.
Lean on me and everybody it's a must .. those songs are purely masterpiece

Nice👏👏 Without a single doubt, Sohyang (to me at least) is the best female vocalist. You should check out more of her amazing performances like "Everyone", "You Raise Me Up"... Since you've mentioned you're a bass opera vocalist, you definitely should react to this fabulous Korean group called Forestella. I'm very sure you will love them as this group also has a bass vocalist who many have fall for him. Their rendition of Je Suis Malade and Hijo de la Luna will be a good introduction of them. I really appreciated your analysis, in the beginning I appreciated you mentioning how she almost made you cry, because I too feel that her voice is just so powerful but as well as the range that she can hit is just truly unbelievable and completely unheard of, and it's such a beauty that how could you not cry? A second part that I really like to hear analysis was towards the end, when you were talking about her high note, where she spoke "I will lay me" then went super high super quick and MADE IT WORK SO WELL! Like it's actually insane, but hearing you speak like that about her,makes me so happy because she truly is outworldly

Great reaction man she truly has the voice of an angel and everyone who hears her gets completely blown away!! Offcourse it's lots and lots of training practicing scales etc but still be able to sing like this is unbelievable!!
I just discovered her a couple months ago but this is my favorite performance by her. After seeing it thought "Am I crazy or is that the best vocal performance I've ever seen?"
I also love the way she connects with the audience.
This was phenomenal! I also see whomever has worked with her has stressed consonants. English is not her first language, and she nailed the consonants! Looking forward to more videos of this amazing artist!
She never had any formal English training. She learned how to speak English just by watching Disney movies when she was a kid.:)
@@MJ-gv9no I wasn't committing on her English, but her use of consonants. Every language has vowels and consonants. In singing, it helps define a word or end that word. Since you use the vowel to carry the note. RIGHT AT THE TIP OF THE TONGUE as my voice teacher used to tell me. A crisp use of the consonant keeps the singer from sounding like they have mush mouth. This young lady did a wonderful job of this.
