This was surprisingly one of the trickier Histories videos, as Lou's appearances are basically all random jokes. And there's so many of them! So I kinda organized the back half into general topics 🤣
Which duo voiced by the same voice actor do you enjoy listening to theme bantering back and forth to each other the most? Krusty and Sideshow Mel (Dan Castellaneta), Mr. Burns and Smithers (Harry Shearer), Flanders and Rev. Lovejoy (Shearer), or Chief Wiggum and Lou (Hank Azaria, pre-Season 30)?
Lou is NOT corrupt! He might engage in police brutality, negligence of his responsibilities, and corruption, but he does NOT put squirrels down his pants for the purposes of gambling!
I knew for years, but always found it weird since he was the ONLY resident in Springfield that had them. I can't tell if he's supposed to be muscular or those are tumors. They're a weird design choice if no one else in the series ever had them. Unrelated, Princess Toadstool in the SMBSS cartoon had them and that also weirded me out as a kid.
Wiggum: 'Lou, you're promoted to Simpsons Histories subject' Eddie: uh, when's the Eddie Simpsons histories? Wiggum: We don't need an Eddie Simpsons Histories
Lou - "Hey, Chief? Can I hold my gun like this? [Tilts raised gun sideways] It looks so cool!" Wiggum - Ha! Anything for you, 'Birthday Boy!"' Holding his piece like that is perhaps how he got those swole forceps
My favorite Lou interaction from the Simpsons Movie: “Hey chief I think there’s a dead body in there” -Lou “I thought so too until he said ‘yard trimmings’, you gotta learn to listen Lou” -Wiggum
I would love to see some Comic Book Guy lore. It always baffled me how he's both viewed as one of the biggest losses in Springfield, but also one of the most successful people. He has his own business, plenty of disposing income for his hobbies (like binge eating and collecting rare memorabilia) and is considered one of the smartest people in town. Yet he's so spiteful and nihilistic that he's can't stand to be around people, and people feel the same about him.
Comic Book Guy has recently came into my mind. I noticed that he's often conveniently depicted as a fat, lazy slob who wastes his life consuming junk food and engaging in niche hobbies, but that he also has a pristine and immaculately organised little shop; would never dare dirty his own collectibles or allow customers to do so.
And yet the staff liked him enough that he was the rare character to get a relationship upgrade that actually stayed. He actually got a happy ending with Kimiko.
Rainier Wolfcastle could always be a solid choice. Man's been around long enough have his own semi-coherent movie within the series, and is just fun period.
I like to think the Steve Sax arrest was pure incompetence instead of corruption. I like the idea that they believe all murders in NYC history were perpetrated by a single baseball player.
Wiggum: “Lou you can’t leave the force!” Lou: “Sorry chief, I just think there’s more opportunities in private security.” Wiggum: “What I’m hearing is I’m too fat!”
I am once again vouching for a Histories on Mr. Dewey Largo, he is so non-existent in Simpsons discussion to me. Nobody ever brings up their favorite Mr. Largo moments. Hell, does he even have many notable moments outside of “Nobody likes Milhouse” and “This is not a dream”? Also, not a Histories recommendation, but I’ve been interested in this idea for a video where you look at the relationships between the members of the Be Sharps. I’d be really cool if you took a look at the dynamics between Homer, Apu, Skinner and Barney (and Wiggum, if you wanna go there) both during their barbershop days and beyond.
Mr. Largo could also be an interesting character study because much like Smithers he's another character they'd throw any tangentially-LGBTQ related joke towards (mostly gay but a few trans) at a much lesser degree. I haven't noticed as many in the recent years so I don't know if all the examples I can think of are from an era but it's interesting to consider
it's also weird cause he's in the intro of the show from the beginning and thus was one of the first characters we saw yet he's so minor he doesn't appear too often and it's easy to forget he's even meant to be a notable character sometimes, and yet an outsider might think he's lisa's teacher instead of miss hoover if they didn't see too many episodes.
Be Sharpes video would be great. You get the sense Apu and Homer are very chummy, and it makes sense if you take that history into account. Skinner is the exact opposite. It's like Skinner was there purely in a professional capacity and now he and Homer are indifferent to one another. Probably doesn't help Homer's son is Skinner's largest nuisance.
Definitely an odd pick, but I think a Simpsons Histories on Dolph would be kinda neat. The other school bullies all have something about them, with Nelson being one of the most prominent non-Simpson kids in the series, Jimbo being the “leader” of the trio and (iirc) delivering most of the jokes from those three, and Kearney has all the absurd “lore” about his age, son, etc. Meanwhile Dolph is just kinda there, never really having any jokes or moments that don’t involve the other two (again, iirc, don’t remember every episode), and hardly does much anyways while Jimbo or Kearney get most of the spotlight. Awesome work as always btw! These vids have been a lotta fun to binge watch and really gotten me back into The Simpsons! Can’t wait to see what you’ve got next! :]
"Sign's floating away, chief" is one of the best delivered lines in the entire series. Also I'm shocked that Ralph hasn't had a spotlight yet! I nominate him, or maybe Sherri and/or Terri.
You should make a video similar to "Ralph the Viking" but with Hank Scorpio asking Homer if he's ever seen Homer throw a shoe and Homer replying "Yes, once."
I, too, have always loved his Popeye arms and was disappointed you didn't mention. Then you did and all was right with the world. And please do an episode on Snowball. The cat(s) deserve more than they get.
Honestly a Histories on Dr. Colossus would be interesting, he is probably the most jokey joke character in the series. He only exists to be a punchline and has never gotten a spotlight episode or even a spotlight period!
"So, Lou & Eddie. What are your last names?" "We don't have them. We're like Cher.😎" I remember as a tween watching the show back in the day, I did think it was pretty funny we got hints of Lou lore about his divorce. For the next Simpsons History, of the options given I'm interested to see Lunch Lady Doris. Much as I love Ralph I'm rooting for the more underrated character here.
That's honestly not very strange, in most police forces in the United States, detectives, support roles, and leadership roles are allowed to carry what they feel comfortable with, as long as they can meet accuracy standards
Hey Jims. Dunno if you'll read this but I finally catch one of these relatively early so I won't have a better chance Thank you for the awesome videos, man I've binged all your histories and your top 10s several times Simpsons was a huge part of my childhood and teen years but then I stopped watching and kind of forgot, you reignited my love for the show again Your videos bring back a lot of good memories for me So thank you for that Keep up the good work, man
Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I love the Springfield police department trio so much and Lou is definitely the standout member of the group! Great job on this project! Definitely happy to check out another history video from you! Three more characters who I think deserve a chance to be part of this collection are Jasper from the Old folks home! = top pick! Please give Jasper his time to shine! He always makes me laugh! Also eager for a chance to see Disco Stu! He has always been a curious subject for me and my third choice would easily be Roger or the guy who produces the Itchy and scratchy cartoons for the Krusty show! I always thought his design was cool and he seems very mysterious to me but for sure I want to see Jasper most!
I've plumped for Disco Stu a lot, and I still do, though now that it's been pointed out to me I love the idea of an episode on Lunch-Lady Doris - a character so iconic that both my high school classmates and the school's PTA independently nicknamed the manager of our school canteen after her.
Just thought of a Simpsons Mysteries idea I'd like to share! What exactly IS Krusty the Clown's show? We've seen it as a public TV kids show with a clown host, a la Bozo the Clown, but we've also seen him do lots of adult material with adult audiences; His adult stand-up, or when Bart becomes the "I Didn't Do It" boy, the show is suddenly like SNL or a variety show with a fully adult audience. Other times it's a Carson/Letterman type talk show, like his comeback special in Krusty Gets Kancelled, and even older variations (or "Classic Krusty") where it's a really BORING talk show discussing the 60s labor crisis or having Robert Frost as the guest. Just thought Krusty and all of his varying material would be interesting to look into. Is he primarily a kids entertainer, or adult, or somehow both..?
I'm glad you commented on the lack of social commentary on police corruption in the modern era. Lou and Wiggum's dynamic *does* feel like it's missing that extra bit of biting commentary as a result, which is a big reason they're nowhere near as compelling as say Skinner and Chalmers. Just not a lot of depth too it. As for the nominations for the next Simpsons Histories picks. 1. Blue Haired Lawyer would be the most interesting in seeing how many actual appearances he's made and if he's had much in the way of spotlights. He feels like another who'd have some secret kink like Sideshow Mel. 2. Ralph Wiggum would be like a slightly less depressing version of Barney Gumble's Simpsons Histories. They locked in hard with Ralph's character after Season 9 and decided that's who the character is from here on out. Like Barney, Ralph feels like one who never got much after the classic era but I feel he definitely got a bit more to do than Barney. 3. Snowball could either benefit from a Histories video or perhaps even a Mysteries video. Snowball's only major spotlight is the episode they decide to kill him off. Best check with your audience on how many Cat Lovers there are, cos it'll be a pretty depressing one for them lol. 4. Lunch Lady Doris I'm not really sure how much there is to cover after the classic era due to the tragic death of Doris Grau. She's still around but unless I'm remembering it wrong, she's purely a background character, even more so than Richard and Lewis. It could be interesting since I honestly do not remember if she got anything after Season 7.
Have you thought of doing a video about The Tracey Ullman shorts? I think it's weird that even though they're such an important part of Simpsons history, hardly anybody talks about them and they're not available for streaming.
I've been wanting one on Lou and Eddie for a while now, so I'm glad we got this one. As for who next, since we've covered Krusty's sidekick, Burns's sidekick, and Wiggum's sidekick, how about Grandpa's sidekick Jasper?
Character suggestion: Idk if there's enough content behind these characters, but I'd love to see a history of the two little orphan characters that the simpsons randomly throws in.
Would really like a video on Jimbo, Dolf, and Kearney, they're so in their own world and each got their own hook, even if it took Dolf 30 years to get his
I'd love to see a Lunch Lady Dorris. She's definitely the weird outsider kind of character that's perfect for this series. The character you KNOW but don't really remember. Like I can only remember one of her scenes and even then it was more of a Willy scene being the "GREASE ME UP WOMAN" from that episode Bart brings Santa's Little Helper to school
I am in between Blue Haired Lawyer and Sarcastic Clerk. The former because... well, he's just one of those mainstays every time a court episode is needed, but the latter is just one who, like the Squeaky Voiced Teen, can be seen damn near every time they needed a smug character at a store. Or in general.
Here are some nominations for you Jim, feel free to pick from this list: Old Jewish Man, Mayor Quimby, Radioactive Man, Ned Flanders, Groundskeeper Willie, Moe Szyslak, Santa's Little Helper, Lenny and Carl, Comic Book Guy, Kearney Zzyzwics. That's all for now. I'll let you know if I think of anymore.
Request for Agnes Skinner. We largely only see her in the context of an overbearing mother to Skinner, but we know she has her own accomplishments such as being an olympic pole vaulter and a wing walker.
I like to think Lou was an animation error, much like smithers his hair is consistent. Even white lou’s hair is textured as if he were a black character.
Springfield has a lot of pair of characters that work as a unit (Rod and Todd, Lenny and Carl, Patty and Selma). It's refreshing when they do separate and we get hidden depths of each.
I'd like to nominate "Wise Guy". He's the guy to whom Comic Book Guy tries to return the Star Trek belt to, and has appeared in many episodes. Also, his voice is used for different characters ("Looks like someone set this thing to 'evil'", 'I have a special delivery for Homer Simpson" to name a couple).
Miss Pennycandy, Krusty's lovelorn assistant. Strange how a background character can be so strongly defined in so few appearances. She easily could have fit in any of the episodes covering Krusty's love life and family life.
His name, the fact he was originally white with dark hair and a moustache, and the Sylvester Stallone-inspired voice makes me think Lou was originally meant to be Italian-American. I suppose he could still be, Italian-American on one side and African-American on the other. This video alone is full of little examples that suggest he has Italian heritage, like the fact he was picked to go undercover with the Mob.
Lou is named after Detroit Tigers great Lou Whitaker. Al Jean is a Michigan native and Detroit sports fan; it wasl also his idea for "Woodrow" to be Gordie Howe, after Johnny Unitas turned the show down.
This was surprisingly one of the trickier Histories videos, as Lou's appearances are basically all random jokes. And there's so many of them! So I kinda organized the back half into general topics 🤣
if you could pick one simpsons character to play any sport of your choice with, who would it be and what sport
Which duo voiced by the same voice actor do you enjoy listening to theme bantering back and forth to each other the most?
Krusty and Sideshow Mel (Dan Castellaneta), Mr. Burns and Smithers (Harry Shearer), Flanders and Rev. Lovejoy (Shearer), or Chief Wiggum and Lou (Hank Azaria, pre-Season 30)?
this video kinda made realize lou is an underappreciated part of the show tbh

Lou is NOT corrupt! He might engage in police brutality, negligence of his responsibilities, and corruption, but he does NOT put squirrels down his pants for the purposes of gambling!
Well, I for one am relieved by this.
But is he a pornstar?
Thats the real reason why Eddie never got the promotion
Why am I just now noticing Lou's Popeye forearms.
Damn, I never paid attention, but now I can only focus on that. That's crazy.
Funny, as a kid that was the main reason why I remembered him
I knew for years, but always found it weird since he was the ONLY resident in Springfield that had them. I can't tell if he's supposed to be muscular or those are tumors. They're a weird design choice if no one else in the series ever had them. Unrelated, Princess Toadstool in the SMBSS cartoon had them and that also weirded me out as a kid.
Same though.
I did too.
I would like to cast a vote for Blue Haired Lawyer. He's been in many antagonistic roles throughout the series, and I think it would be interesting.
Oh yes please
I loved when he got his ass kicked by Skinner
i second this
Is that his actual name?
@@Something_Maybe He doesn't have a confirmed name, so that's what people call him.

Lou getting his own episode without Eddie is the equivalent of Sam being left out of Larry's death episode.
Lou is cool because one time he turned his gun sideways

This video made me realize at some point they added a white strip to their police caps and now it bothers me everytime I see it.
I think the best boy, Santas little helper needs a Simpsons history too!
You wanna talk about Lou off model: Season 20 episode 21, pause it at 16:56
these videos are just the best, keep it up man these are a work of art 🔥
Would really like a video on Jimbo, Dolf, and Kearney, they're so in their own world and each got their own hook, even if it took Dolf 30 years to get his
I'd love to see a Lunch Lady Dorris. She's definitely the weird outsider kind of character that's perfect for this series. The character you KNOW but don't really remember.
Like I can only remember one of her scenes and even then it was more of a Willy scene being the "GREASE ME UP WOMAN" from that episode Bart brings Santa's Little Helper to school
Lou and Eddie are underrated but iconic characters
"Babe wake up therealjims posted!"
I found this 10 seconds after it was posted!
I'VE ASKED AND I'VE ASKED AND I'VE ASKED
Finally LOU THE COP!!!!!!!!!!!
I love you Jim!!!!!!!!!!
Say the line, TheRealJims!
"This side character has marital troubles."
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
R.I.P Bob Newhart, one of the best guest appearances on The Simpsons.
Gotta say I'm a big fan of Eddie, I wish they didn't drop him like they did. He's such an enigma that I'm always wanting to see more of him
Im surprised you haven't done Patty and Selma yet. They are actually quite the underrated comedy duo when they roast Homer.
I discovered the other day I was somehow not subscribed! WTF! anyway fixed now keep up the amazing work thanks!
Springfield has a lot of pair of characters that work as a unit (Rod and Todd, Lenny and Carl, Patty and Selma). It's refreshing when they do separate and we get hidden depths of each.
I’m surprised nobody has asked for a Sea Captain Simpsons Histories before, that would be really fun.
I remember being thrown off as a kid when they did that flashback episode. I was like, Wait, I thought they were the same age.
love the vid as always gonna throw my vote for lunchlady dorris for next time
I'd like to nominate "Wise Guy".
I am content with the amount of Lou in my life
His name, the fact he was originally white with dark hair and a moustache, and the Sylvester Stallone-inspired voice makes me think Lou was originally meant to be Italian-American.
I suppose he could still be, Italian-American on one side and African-American on the other. This video alone is full of little examples that suggest he has Italian heritage, like the fact he was picked to go undercover with the Mob.
That back and forth between Wiggum and Lou during Simple Simpson is a classic!
"Damn Boxes".
Lou is named after Detroit Tigers great Lou Whitaker. Al Jean is a Michigan native and Detroit sports fan; it wasl also his idea for "Woodrow" to be Gordie Howe, after Johnny Unitas turned the show down.
